[ad_1] GG News Bureau New Delhi, 2nd Nov. The alarming surge in pollution levels in Delhi has become a pressing health concern, with a recent survey indicating that 69% of families in the capital and the National Capital Region (NCR) have at least one member suffering from pollution-related ailments. Following Diwali celebrations, the Air Quality Index (AQI) soared to a staggering 999 on the night of the festival, marking the highest recordable level in various parts of Delhi and NCR. Conducted by LocalCircles, the survey gathered over 21,000 responses from residents of Delhi, Noida, Gurugram, Faridabad, and Ghaziabad. Findings revealed that 69% of families reported members experiencing sore throats or coughs, while 62% noted at least one individual with a burning sensation in the eyes. Additionally, 46% of families reported symptoms such as a running nose or nasal congestion. Other health issues included breathing difficulties or asthma (31%), headaches (31%), anxiety and concentration difficulties (23%), and sleep disturbances (15%). In contrast, 31% of respondents reported no health issues due to pollution. Comparative data from a similar survey conducted on October 19 showed a significant increase in health complaints over the two-week period. The percentage of individuals experiencing sore throats or coughs surged from 36% to 69%. While only 23% of participants indicated they would use air purifiers during this pollution spike, an equal percentage expressed their intent to endure the pollution without taking measures. Some respondents stated they would continue their routine activities while wearing masks outdoors, increase their intake of immunity-boosting foods and drinks, or even travel for parts of the month. Notably, the willingness to use air purifiers increased from 18% to 23% over the same period. The ongoing pollution crisis in Delhi calls for immediate attention and action, as residents grapple with the adverse health effects of deteriorating air quality. Health Policy Premiums Surge: Up to 50% Increase in a Year
Health insurance premiums in India have seen a significant surge, with some policies experiencing a staggering 50% increase in just one year. Experts predict further hikes in the coming months, citing regulatory changes and industry trends as contributing factors.
Tumblr media
A recent survey conducted by LocalCircles gathered insights from over 11,000 personal health insurance policyholders across 324 districts of India. The findings revealed that 52% of respondents reported a premium increase of over 25% in the last 12 months, with some seeing hikes of 50% or more.
Industry sources attribute the impending premium hikes to the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India’s (Irdai) decision to revise norms, allowing insurers to steeply raise premiums in recent years. Additionally, changes in definitions of pre-existing conditions and moratorium periods in health insurance policies have led to increased scrutiny and higher costs for policyholders.
Despite efforts to streamline claims processing and improve customer experience, challenges persist. Nearly half of the respondents who filed health insurance claims in the last three years reported difficulties, ranging from delays to outright rejections.
The General Insurance Council (GI Council) reports a surge in health policy claims, with settlements totaling around Rs 75,000 crore involving over 2.5 crore cases in 2022–23. Efforts to streamline processes and expand cashless treatment options aim to enhance customer satisfaction and simplify the claims process.
As the industry grapples with rising premiums and evolving regulatory landscapes, stakeholders emphasize the importance of citizen-centric policies and efficient claims processing. With continued collaboration and innovation, the aim is to revolutionize the health insurance landscape and provide individuals with the confidence and support they need to secure their health needs.

📆 05 Jan 2024 📆 54% households in Karnataka report viral symptoms 🗞️ The New Indian Express
BENGALURU: As per a recent survey by community platform LocalCircles, approximately 54% of households in Karnataka have reported one or more individuals experiencing viral or Covid-like symptoms such as fever, runny nose, sore throat, cough, headache, joint pain, and respiratory issues.
Karnataka has experienced a recent uptick in Covid cases, notably the JN.1 variant. Due to testing criteria focusing on severe symptoms, the official case counts may only partially reflect the actual situation, suggesting a higher prevalence of COVID cases than the government data reflects, which currently shows around 1,110 active cases in the entire state, the survey stated.
To ensure a comprehensive understanding, the government should scrutinise severe cases and fatalities and must conduct genome sequencing to identify any emerging variants, the report suggested.
The survey garnered responses from 3,000 registered residents, disclosing that 62% of respondents were men and 38% were women. Out of the respondents, 23% indicated that four or more people in their household exhibited symptoms, while another 23% reported 2-3 people with symptoms.

📆 29 Oct 2023 📰 Severe Medical Conditions On The Rise In Telangana: Study
A recent study conducted to assess the onset of severe medical conditions has thrown up startling figures. About 45% citizens of Telangana had indicated having one or more close contacts facing onset of a severe medical condition during the peak of the Covid pandemic in 2022. This number has risen drastically in 2023 to 66%.
The study has covered severe medical conditions such as brain stroke, heart stroke and cancer. Close social network includes family, extended family, friends, neighbours and colleagues.
The comparative study by ‘LocalCircles’ points out how widespread the problem of stroke is. In fact, the country wide figures show 72% Indians have one or more in their close network who experienced heart or brain stroke or cancer acceleration in the last three and half years since the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Since the Covid-19 pandemic these cases have accelerated, although Telangana is one of the better states when compared to Gujarat, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi. But overall the incidence has increased across the country. These are after affects of Covid-19 virus and of Covid vaccines. There is a need for the government to investigate this,” said Sachin Taparia, founder of ‘LocalCircles’.
