Cafler: Ricard Guillem’s Impact in the Reinvention of UK’s Automotive Industry
The rise of millions of entrepreneurs of all ages has been taking up space in all types of industries on a global scale, every single day. Creating and leaving impacts through their innovations and ideas, the Founders, Innovators, Makers, and Revolutionists pave a path in the various industries present and give back to the people and the world with their products and services.
Tumblr media
The Inspiration:
Hailing from Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain, a 16-year-old boy had the vision, goal, drive, and inspiration to leave a substantial mark in The United Kingdom’s Automotive Industry. Ricard Guillem, being very familiar with the automotive industry due to his family working in the sector for generations, had noticed that when owning any vehicle, the maintenance and ownership of it requires a lot of mechanical and physical care and effort with the aims to prolong its longevity in all aspects.
Therefore, with a lot of research and understanding, the young entrepreneur studied the various technological solutions that were already available in the market and came up with an idea to create an innovative platform and app that provides all of the required care, help, and services with the aims to make the owners better manage, maintain and care for their vehicles in their day-to-day life and needs.
CAFLER’S Creation and Focus:
Cafler – was brought into existence in the year 2021, and was founded by Ricard Guillem. The start-up was founded alongside yet another inspiring, hard-working, and talented businessman – Iñigo Diego. With the consistent efforts applied, sacrifices made and with good time, Ricard Guillem and Iñigo Diego, came through with their aims and visions which led them to reach the skyline.
Basing their priorities on providing a seamless and easy yet first-level client experience to the people, the number of services that are being offered follow these criteria – Comfort, Low Prices, Trust and Transparency, Selection and Personalised Services. Upholding these criteria strongly, the founders of Cafler have built the platform and seen to it that it is accessible globally. To kickstart their platform, the main drivers and motivators that were behind Cafler’s huge success in the industry and country, are as follows – Ambition, Speed, Responsibility, Purpose and Impact.
CAFLER’S Impacts:
With more than 100,000 services being provided by Cafler while working with more than 750 partner brands and companies such as – Tesla, Renault, Turo, etcetera, establishing their growing presence in over 3 countries – Spain, France and the United Kingdom and counting, as well as operating actively in over 8 cities – Valencia, Barcelona, Madrid, Paris, Lyon, London respectively and more. With many more branches aiming to be opened in other countries for a wider reach and engagement of their services offered, the co-founders are growing and moving up the scale and market positively.
“Our operating system technology is designed to make life easier for vehicle users, empowering local economies, and providing a robust foundation for small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) to thrive.” – Ricard Guillem’s response to how Cafler contributes to building a better future for the people, at the Valencia Digital Summit 2023 (VDS).
Some of the various services that Cafler offers and provides the people with are as follows – Ministry of Transport Tests (MOT) from the comfort of their homes, Workshop and Maintenance, Tyre Changes, all kinds of Vehicle Washes, Paperwork, Car Parking, Valet Services, Moving or Transfering of Vehicle to different locations, Refuelling, Tow Truck Services and more. They provide modes of contact on their platform and app so that they can be reached and contacted easily, making their services user-friendly, accessible, and affordable. Cafler has generated more than 10 million euros since its establishment.
To Conclude:
Concerning Innovation in the Automotive Sector, a now 19-year-old Ricard Guillem – was deemed as one of the many young and rapidly growing entrepreneurs in The United Kingdom due to his visions for an industrial transformation. A delegate of Spain to the United Nations and won the National Entrepreneur Award over by the Scientia Foundation. A vision for creating a radical reinvention, the young entrepreneur’s ideas and efforts have provided a path that has further led to a rise and growth with the use of Automotive Technology. Hence, Cafler has shaken and disrupted the industry, so that its founders could reinvent a sector so that better help could be given to the people in several services offered and curated specifically to their requirements and needs.

Some more historical hay-asthma fluff with my OC Francis and his lady, Caroline. Set in the late 1800s/turn of 1900s. If you haven’t met him before, you can read my prior fics about him here and here.
-
At long last, Francis had escaped the choking air of London and settled permanently as the owner of some lands near Plymouth with his new bride, Caroline. They'd been married only a few months, joined in matrimony at the local chapel in late October when Francis' health was at its strongest. They'd settled into a modest but elegant seaside cottage with six bedrooms for welcoming guests and an expansive plot of land around it providing privacy. Most of the time, the home was occupied by just the couple and a handful of staff who worked during the day and lived in much smaller homes down in the nearby village.
The staff always arrived early enough to have the morning coffee and breakfast before they rose at a leisurely hour and took their meal in the dining room. The winter by the ocean had been harshly cold but happy and quiet in the new estate. They'd welcomed Francis' cousin from Leeds for a week-long stay and had entertained a magistrate passing through on his way to France. Now, as the months turned towards spring, Caroline gently instructed the new staff about the precautions to take when it came to Francis' sensitive health. Though Plymouth generally provided relief from the majority of his symptoms, occasional turns of weather could bring about an attack of Francis' severe hay-asthma.
It was a beautiful early June day when Caroline rolled over in bed and reached an arm out for her husband, who lay still asleep. She pressed her lips to his shoulder in a kiss and he smiled faintly in his sleep.
“Francis,” she said softly.
“Mhm?” he murmured, waking to the sound of her voice.
“We're due at the Petersons this afternoon, love,” she said. “Better be up and dressed soon. Thomas says it's about a half hour drive.”
They'd been invited for tea at the estate a few kilometers away at Westhart Cliffs. The Petersons were another young couple and Caroline had been childhood friends with the wife, Lady Amelia. They'd moved to Westhart around the same time Francis and Caroline had taken up their own residence.
Dressed and ready with a gift of plum cake carefully packaged by their cook, the couple climbed into their motorcar and the valet, Sean, took off along the cliffside road.
It was an easy drive down to Westhart with rolling fields on one side and the sea on the other. When they slowed in the approach to the house, Caroline took Francis' hand and gave it a squeeze.
“Ready?” she asked, smiling at him. He had a tendency to be a little shy around those he did not know well.
“Of course,” he said, smiling back at her. “It's tea and conversation and then back home before we know it.”
“That's the spirit!” she teased, clapping him on the leg.
“No, in all honesty I'm quite looking forward to seeing the place. I've driven by before but never been inside.”
They peered out of the motorcar's window as they creaked to a halt out front of the imposing manor's front door. A butler appeared to greet them as Sean put the car in park and came around to open the door.
“Mr. And Mrs. Miller,” the butler said, bowing slightly. “Welcome to Westhart. Lord and Lady Peterson will receive you in the atrium.”
Francis raised an eyebrow as he looked at Caroline.
“That will be lovely, thank you,” Caroline replied, smirking back at her husband as she read his thoughts. An atrium was certainly a divinely decadent addition to a manor home.
They followed the butler through the long, impressive entryway and down a hallway out into an airy room with large glass windows along the far side. Above, a portion of the ceiling was an impressive peak of glass panes that filtered light into the room. A small tea table was set in the centre and nearby stood Lord and Lady Peterson, dressed elegantly in white and linen for summer. Around the room arched large ferns and exotic palms with their leaves stretched towards the sunny windows.
“Thank you for having us, sir,” Francis said in greeting, extending his hand to Lord Peterson as Caroline and Amelia embraced nearby. He turned his attention to Lady Peterson and gave a small bow. “And Lady Peterson, I've heard so much about you from Caroline.”
“Call me Amelia, please,” she said with a cheerful laugh. “I hope she's told you only the flattering things.”
Caroline laughed and gripped Francis' arm affectionately.
“Of course, Amelia.”
“And I've heard much about you, Francis,” Amelia said. “Congratulations on your wedding. I'm so sorry we were out of the country during the festivities.”
“Yes, an odd time of year for a wedding,” Lord Peterson said.
“We love autumn,” Caroline said confidently as Francis stood feeling awkward at her side. The real reason, of course, had been to avoid him being unwell during a spring or summer wedding, but they had not widely publicized that fact.
“I'm sure it was divine,” Amelia chirped. “Should we sit for tea? I'll ring for the service.”
She tugged on a nearby sash to summon the servants and they all took seats around the table.
“Mrs. Miller had told us you ran a successful venture in London, Mr. Miller,” Lord Peterson said conversationally as a maid wheeled in a tea cart laden with goodies and the tea set.
Francis cleared his throat and gave a small rub to his left eye.
“Ah, yes, I did,” he replied. “It was my father's business and I took over when he passed. However, I much prefer the climate of Plymouth and when I asked Caroline to marry me, it was with the understanding that I'd sell that venture. So I've closed up shop there permanently and I've taken on some smaller private clients here and by correspondence. Come winter, I may spend some time in London but only as business requires.”
“Quite right,” Lord Peterson said as the maid began to pour tea into fine china cups. “I myself had some dealings in London but I agree that Plymouth is a much finer place to have a home. We hope to start a family of our own here.”
At his side, Amelia blushed and smiled with a knowing look at Caroline.
“We are quite enjoying our new home down the way,” Caroline chimed in. “I've been busy selecting new curtains for the bedrooms and we're having an heirloom piece sent up from my mother and father's home next week; a lovely mahogany wardrobe that belonged to my grandfather.”
Heh-TSCHPMF!
Francis turned away from the tea table suddenly, shuddering with an explosive sneeze. The Petersons jumped at the unexpected sound and next to him, Caroline bit her lip worryingly.
“Bless you, Mr. Miller!” Lord Peterson said.
Eh-TSGH!
“Goodness, I hope you're not ill!” Amelia chimed in.
Francis flushed with a familiar embarrassment at the situation.
“Excuse me,” he murmured, reaching for his trusty handkerchief and dabbing his nose politely. “No, I'm quite well.”
“These tea cakes look delicious, Amelia,” Caroline remarked, reaching for one the petit-fours from the centre serving tray.
“Our Mary does such a nice job with pastries,” Amelia replied proudly. “This plum cake you brought is also divine. You'll have to have your girl send over the recipe.”
“How are you finding the village, Mr. Miller?” Lord Peterson asked.
“You may call me Francis,” Francis replied softly, tucking his handkerchief away. “I'm finding the people very agreeable, sir. We're due to collect rents next month so I imagine I'll get to know a good deal more of the people but the ones we've had dealings with are very kind.”
He cleared his throat softly and reached to take a sip of his tea.
“We've taken on two lads and two girls from the village in service along with a cook and a valet,” he added. “They've all proved to be good workers so- heh---so...heh-TSGH!”
He turned away to smother another sneeze into his cupped hands.
“Oh do excuse me,” he murmured, blushing again. Under the table, Caroline gave his leg a comforting squeeze as she looked around at the exotic plants and wondered if they were proving irritating to Francis' delicate system.
Lord Peterson did not acknowledge this sneeze but instead nodded approvingly.
“That's good to hear. We have a few lads here from our local village that have also proved very helpful.”
“But our Mary is actually the daughter of our old cook Margaret, from back at my family home,” Caroline chimed in.
Hurh-TSGHHT!
Francis turned away again, convulsing with yet another sneeze. He stayed leaning away from the tea table, hands still poised over his mouth and nose. The reason quickly became evident as he launched into a ticklish fit of sneezes that shook him violently with each wrenching outburst.
Hurhh-TSGHT! Ngh-GSHT! Tsh-GHT! 'GHT! Ehh-heh-GHTTT!
He pushed back his chair, standing and stumbling away from the table with his handkerchief to his nose
“My apologi—ehh-GHHTT!”he choked out between sneezes.
“Bless you! My goodness!” Amelia said breathlessly, astonished at the spectacle.
“Are you sure you're quite alright?” Lord Peterson asked, concerned.
Francis' eyes were now red and swollen and streaming with tears as he sneezed several more times in rapid succession.
Ngh-GHXHT! Heh-tshCHTT! Heh-TSCHT! Tsh-GHT!
Caroline stood and went to his side, putting a steadying hand on his back.
“It's the plants?” she asked softly. “Should I make our excuses.”
“Please,” rasped Francis miserably, snot flooding from his nose. He dabbed it with the handkerchief and then covered it again to catch another ticklish sneeze.
Heh-TSCHXHTT!
“Go wait in the hall,” she said quietly into his ear. “I'll say our goodbyes and have them get Sean to bring the car back around.”
Francis rushed for the door, the sound of sneezing echoing in the hall as he left.
“I'm so very sorry,” Caroline said, turning back to their hosts. “I neglected to tell you the severity of dear Francis' condition. He suffers so terribly from hay-asthma and rose-cold and we can never be certain when he's going to have a bad turn this time of year. He finds relief here in Plymouth but sometimes he still suffers spells. I think maybe your exotic foliage did not agree with him.”
“Oh no!” Amelia cried. “We can have the servants move the tea service into the parlour.”
“I'm afraid now that he's having an attack, it'll be a day before he can fully recover. It's best if we return home for him to rest and take his treatments.”
“I wish we'd known,” Lord Peterson said. “Poor chap.”
“He's so terribly embarrassed by it,” Caroline explained. “If you could be so dear as to have our car brought around, I know he'll want to go at once. It makes such a mess of him, he can't bear to have others see.”
“Absolutely,” Lord Peterson replied, heading off to ring for a butler. “Please offer my apologies to your husband. We would not have chosen this room for tea had we known.”
“It's a lovely room,” Caroline said. “I would have chosen it too. Some plants have no effect on him at all, so we never can tell.”
“I do hope he doesn't suffer greatly,” Amelia said sweetly. “He looked dreadful.”
“It is a rather uncomfortable affliction,” Caroline agreed. “He can scarcely get his breath between all the sneezing sometimes.”
“You are a saint for seeing to him,” Amelia said.
Caroline blushed.
“No, not at all. Though I do feel so terribly bad he suffers so much. That's why we chose to marry in the fall, because this season can be so unpredictable for his health.”
“The car should be coming around shortly,” Lord Peterson said, returning from a conversation with his butler. “Can we see you out?”
“I think Francis would prefer a quiet escape, if you don't mind,” Caroline said.
“Of course,” Amelia replied. “Please, send him our good wishes and we'll have you back for tea in the parlour another time.”
She kissed Caroline on the cheek and Lord Peterson gave a bow and kissed Caroline's hand.
With the farewells said, Caroline rushed to the hall to find Francis leaning heavily against a wall with his handkerchief under his dripping nose. His eyes were swollen and puffy.
“Oh love,” she said softly. “I'm sorry. I had no idea. I've made our excuses and Sean should be out front.”
He nodded wearily and followed her out to the front foyer. Outside, Sean was waiting with the car running and he opened the door for them to climb in. Francis sunk down into the seat with a sigh and gave his nose a short, damp blow.
“Okay, home,” Caroline soothed, settling next to him.
Eh-SGHHT!
Francis shuddered with another wrenching sneeze and then took a shaky, wheezy breath.
“How's your chest?” Caroline asked.
Hurh-TSGHH!Tsh-GHT!
Once he was able to speak, Francis shook his head and sniffled thickly.
“It's okay,” he rasped. “A little tight.”
“Okay, just try to get little breaths,” she coached. “How can I help?”
“You don't happen to have a handkerchief?” he asked. His was nearly completely sodden.
Caroline reached for her own from its usual place tucked into her dress and came to the terrible realization that she'd neglected to bring it.
“I'm so sorry, sweet,” she said.
“It's okay,” Francis croaked, pressing the damp one to his nose again. His poor nostrils were getting red and raw from the moisture.
“Do you want to try to rest?” she asked. “You can lean against me.”
“Maybe,” he said wearily, clearly exhausted from the attack. He let his head rest back against her, closing his eyes. She stroked his hair back from his face and thumbed away a few stray tears from around his swollen eyes. He snorted thickly and coughed a few times, now getting so congested he could barely get a breath through his nose. He leaned forward once more, sneezing thickly.
Hurh-TSGHHHT! Heh-TSCHMFFF!
Caroline felt her stomach pang in sympathy and she rubbed his back as he blew his nose futilely.
But the time they reached their home, he was so congested and swollen and miserable that she had to lead him inside because he was nearly blind with allergic tears. They'd given the staff the day off since they'd planned to be out all afternoon, but now Caroline was alone save for Sean who had gone to put the car away. He'd offered to send for the doctor, but that wasn't yet necessary.
She got Francis up to their bedroom and seated in an armchair with a fresh handkerchief from his wardrobe at hand. He coughed ticklishly and she put a hand to his chest, feeling for the wheeze. For now, it was light.
“Better get your inhaler,” she said softly. He nodded, knowing that the asthma would get worse later in the evening as it always did. “I'll get some water for your face too.”
He nodded again, wiping his dripping nose with the new dry handkerchief and triggering more wrenching sneezes.
Hruh-TSGCHMFFF! Ngh'TSGHHH!
Caroline kissed the top of his head and went to the kitchen, setting a pot of water to boil for the inhaler and gathering a basin of warm water with some cloths for Francis' swollen eyes. With everything balanced on a tray, she went back upstairs to find him slumped wearily in the chair, audibly wheezing.
“It's okay,” she soothed as he coughed and clutched at his chest in discomfort. “Here we are.”
She poured a mixture of medication into the steaming water in the ceramic bulb and held it out for him to inhale. He took a long, slow puff and struggled to keep the vapour in his lungs. Finally, he gave into coughing and she rubbed his back, whispering soft reassurances. He was sweaty-faced and spent, unable to find any comfort. When he finally stopped coughing, he leaned into her touch and sighed.
“You don't deserve this,” he rasped.
“I love you,” she said, kissing his brow. “Every bit of you. Now, quiet. We need to get you well again.”
She sponged his swollen, itchy eyes with a rag dipped in warm water and then gave him a mixture of quinine to snort. He tried futilely to inhale it but he was too congested to get much into his sinuses. Wrinkling his nose, he sneezed into the handkerchief and gave his tender nostrils another careful wipe.
Heh'TSCHFFT!
He was so weary that his eyes were fluttering shut but he could not get comfortable enough to sleep. He stood, pacing the room as he coughed occasionally, bracing himself against his chair or the bed or the wardrobe. Caroline hovered nearby, feeling utterly useless.
“Do you want to try to sit a little?” she asked as he tended to his nose with his handkerchief again.
“It's easier,” he rasped. “Breathing....if I stand....but I'm so tired.”
“I know, love,” she soothed. “Come here.” s
As he passed her in his fevered pacing, she wrapped her arms around him, letting him put his weight into her, and held him as he let his head hang over her shoulder. He coughed miserably and she felt him shuddering in her arms, but she held tight, rocking gently back and forth. He wheezed a sigh and tried to pull away, but she held on.
“Caroline,” he gasped.
“It's fine. Rest.”
Heh-tGXHT!
He stifled a sneeze against her shoulder.
“Caroline....” he said again with more urgency.
“I don't mind,” she whispered, stroking his back. His chest expanded and he pitched into her with another sneeze.
Heh-SGHHHT!
“I need to....the chair,” he wheezed. She guided him over to it and he gripped the top, leaning over the high wingback and bracing against it as he coughed again. She rubbed his back more, leaning her cheek against his ribs and hearing the whistle of wheezing.
She held up the inhaler and he took another puff of the steam. The coughing eased a little and he paused to give his nose a blow, wincing as he did. His nose was glowing red and raw now, completely irritated and tender from all the moisture and wiping.
“Should we see if you can get a little sleep?” she asked gently. “I can get your pyjamas.”
He shrugged.
“Yes, maybe,” he said quietly. “I am breathing a little easier.”
She retrieved a set of his pyjamas from the wardrobe and helped him out of his trousers and shirt into the soft linen bottoms and matching top.
“There,” she said, buttoning the last button on the pyjama top. “One more treatment and then you can rest.”
He took another puff from the ceramic inhaler and then followed her sleepily towards the bed. He sat down on the edge and watched her through swollen, half-closed eyes as she tugged off her dress and he reached to help loosen her corset so she could remove it. When she was just in her bloomers and shift, she climbed into bed and reclined against the headboard, guiding Francis to lay against her chest propped up. He closed his eyes and settled into her embrace, breathing noisily but clearer than before. Soon he was asleep, snoring softly, completely exhausted from the attack. She closed her own eyes, comforted by the weight of him against her and the knowledge that she'd be close at hand if he woke with another flare of asthma in the night as he often did.
Thankfully, he slept soundly and when he did wake, it was to nothing more than some slight irritation around his nose and some residual itching in his throat. They settled down in the bed, reclining further, and fell back into a peaceful sleep once again.

1.
The first time was understandable. They were in London in 1956, looking into a series of disappearances at local orphanages that led, in turn, to a brilliant chase across most of London, an exploding drone ship, and a hastily-rigged-together teleportation device that returned the children home.
After all of this, the Doctor and Rose laid on the grass in St. James Park, catching their breath. The Doctor packed his sonic away looking highly satisfied, brushed the dust off of his shoulders, and turned to grin triumphantly at Rose.
"So," he said, "where did we leave the TARDIS?"
Rose looked blankly at him. "I dunno! I thought you knew."
He huffed. "Well, I was busy saving the planet, you know. The least you could do is keep track of little things like where we left our ride."
Rose made a face and took his arm. "Best start retracing our steps."
To be fair, there were over 600 blue police boxes in London in the fifties.
They checked over 83 of them.
Rose kept a careful count.
2.
The second time, they were guests on a space liner where the new symphonic work of an important 43rd century composer was being premiered. It was quite a large ship, with stringent parking policies. The Doctor and Rose had barely stepped out into reception when a strange-looking valet appeared, hand out for the keys.
The Doctor peered over his glasses at the odd creature in front of him. Its skin was papery and gray, its demeanor officious. Wide black eyes, no nose to speak of, and its suit jacket was ill-fitting at best.
"No," the Doctor said firmly, "I am not turning over my ship to you."
"Apologies, valued guest," the creature said, its tone obsequious but firm. "No time travel devices are allowed on the hospitality decks. If you will not allow us to drive your machine we can move it for you with our hover-lift to a more suitable parking location."
As if by silent signal, a robotic arm appeared. It plucked the TARDIS off the deck, deposited it in a large elevator, and whirred it out of sight all before the Doctor had so much as drawn a breath to continue arguing.
"Now see here!" the Doctor began, only to be interrupted by the creature whipping out a small round chip and handing it to him.
"Your parking retrieval location," it chirped, and off it went. The Doctor considered making a fuss, but quickly decided it was best to let it go. Their hosts were honorable and known to him, and he was certain no one could harm or even enter the TARDIS while it was away from him. He offered his arm to Rose, and escorted her into the concert hall.
Two long hours later, after hearing a baffling cacophony of what could most easily be compared to the mating songs of Lithuanian crickets combined with an earthquake, they stumbled out of their seats and headed for the lobby.
"You were sleeping, Rose," the Doctor whispered.
"Doctor!" she reprimanded. "Was not."
He eyed her meaningfully.
"Ok, maybe a bit." She grinned. "Crickets always put me to sleep."
"Crickets?"
She shrugged. "Sounded like crickets to me."
He patted his pockets as they headed off to the valet stand to retrieve the ship. And patted. And patted.
Rose eyed him warily. "What's wrong?"
"We-e-e-ell," he said, "I seem to have misplaced the chip to claim the TARDIS."
"What? Look again."
He did. He continued to dig through various pockets — breast pocket, both outside pockets, inner pockets, even his pants. He looked through his socks. He even checked a pocket Rose hadn't known he had on the back of his tie.
"Well," he sniffed, "I'm sure it won't be a problem."
It was late the next morning before they finished the paperwork, submitted in triplicate, and had their fingerprints processed, retinal scans completed and verified by experts, auras read, astrological charts cast, and hair follicles analyzed for remnants of illegal substances.
Rose had long since given up hope of ever seeing the TARDIS again, when they finally wheeled her out and deposited her on the pavement in front of them.
"Thank you for parking with Atransi Enterprises," the small gray valet said warmly.
"You know, technically that wasn't my fault," the Doctor told her later.
Rose smothered a laugh.
"Well it wasn't!" he repeated indignantly.
"No, you're right," Rose said, nodding emphatically. "The little gray guys were being ridiculous."
Somewhat mollified, the Doctor smoothed down his lapels, pulled out an apple, and took a bite.
"After all," she continued, "How could they expect you to hang on to one little valet ticket? Even the Doctor has his limits."
She ducked before the apple he threw hit her.
3.
"There's a Mall Planet?" Rose asked, incredulously.
The Doctor grinned at her from behind the screen. "Oh, yes. Grandest shopping in the galaxy. Organized into cities simply by the type of merchandise one prefers. You can go to whole towns focused on hats, books, men's clothing, woman's clothing, toys, electronics, shoes, garden utensils, foodstuffs of various kinds..."
Rose had to cut in. "Shoes?"
"Ah, yes, of course." He twiddled a few knobs. "So that's where we should start, then?"
"Yes please!"
The door swung open onto an enormous parking structure. In all directions were endless cars, ships, and vessels. A variety of illuminated signs and flashing lights in the pavement directed shoppers to various portals from which they could hop directly to the main entrance. Temporary tattoo machines were available to transcribe your parking location onto your palm for convenience.
Neither the Doctor nor Rose noticed this option. Instead, they took a moment to memorize their location - A412'B*596-1X.
"This is just parking, Rose," the Doctor chided with a grin. "Stop looking all wide eyed and awestruck until you see the city."
Inside was indeed a wonder. Rose had never imagined anything like it. Thousands of stores, all dedicated to footwear, organized in concentric circles on 200 floors. Automated kiosks helped shoppers identify an appropriate starting point by species, foot size, and style and whisked one directly there.
An hour later, the Doctor was tearing his hair out. Sixty minutes of watching Rose look at shoes, touch shoes, try on shoes. So. Many. Shoes. This was the worst idea in the history of worst ideas. What could he have been thinking?
To her credit, Rose noticed his increasing discomfort.
"You don't have to follow me around all morning, Doctor," she said kindly. "Is there somewhere else you want to go for a while? We can meet up soon."
He looked dubious. "Well... maybe. I'd like to head off to the electronics conglomerate. It's astonishing, a floating city in the midst of this world's largest ocean. But it's a long way and it could be hard to find you here."
Rose shook her head. Sometimes he simply didn't think straight. She put it down to the shoe shopping. "Leave the sonic with me, or one of your tracker thingies, silly," she said with a smile. "Pop off in the TARDIS and you can come right to me when you're done."
He all but bounced on his toes. "Perfect, Rose! You're brilliant." He hugged her and popped the sonic into her back pocket. "See you in a bit."
And in a flash, he was gone.
After what seemed like only an hour or two, he was back, looking quite disheveled.
"Doctor!" Rose said, surprised. "I didn't hear the TARDIS land."
"About that..." he said, obviously trying to sound nonchalant. "Do you by any chance happen to recall the parking number?"
Rose grinned, earning her a stern look. She wiped the smirk from her face and thought for a minute. "Um, I think it was AB412... started with A. Oh, and it had a prime in it. And an asterisk."
His face fell.
"No, no, no, that doesn't help at all." He paced. "All that tells us is that it's on one of the A levels. There are hundreds of A levels. There were fourteen characters to the parking code, Rose! Do you know how many possible parking spaces that is?"
Rose winced. "Could we possibly work back from the portal where we came in?"
He stared at her. This was a very good suggestion. Why hadn't he come up with it? Each quadrant of each floor of the parking structure teleported guests to a particular entry point in the shopping city. Reversing the process should take them back very close to the ship, no?
"Let's try it." He grabbed her hand and pulled her back towards the entrance.
They hopped aboard a promising-looking parking portal and were instantly transported to a completely unfamiliar looking area. The Doctor ran around looking for a good half mile, tasted the air, spun in a slow circle with the sonic whirring, even attempted to climb something for a better view. Finally he just collapsed onto the ground, sitting with his long legs out in front of him and his back against a wall, his long brown coat splayed out around him.
He looked completely and utterly deflated.
"Rose, you don't understand," he moaned. "I've already been looking for hours! This is hopeless. We're going to have to go to the management. We're going to have to -" he shuddered "–fill out forms."
Rose carefully sat herself down next to him, leaned up against his shoulder.
"Shouldn't the TARDIS be able to tell you where she is?" she asked. "Telepathic bond and all that."
He frowned. "Normally, yes. I can tell she's here but not where she is. I think she's blocking me."
"Why would she do that?"
He looked faintly embarrassed. "I may have mixed up a few wires this morning and then spoken crossly to her when she sparked me." He adjusted his shirt cuffs. "Could be her idea of, uh, revenge. Or maybe just a good joke."
Rose took a moment to absorb that one. Certainly not a problem one had with a non-sentient ship, this.
"Well," she said lightly, "Nothing for it but to keep looking, then."
"Mmm."
"I mean it can't be all that far, right? We're in the A4s." She kept her tone cheerful.
"Hmm."
"Next time we come somewhere like this, I'm taking a picture of the parking code on my phone."
No response. Rose wracked her brain for a more helpful suggestion.
"Can't you use the sonic," she finally asked, "to do something clever?"
He perked up a little at that. "We-e-e-ell, I could probably modify it to send out a homing beacon. It won't take us right to the ship but it'll beep if we're getting close. We won't have to go down every row."
He bent over and fiddled with it for a few minutes, hair flopping into his eyes. Finally, he hopped to his feet and clicked it open, pressed a few buttons, and sent a small beam of green light searching around the parking lot.
"This way!" he announced.
Off they trudged. Every few rows the Doctor held the sonic up, clicked some buttons, and shot a light beam. No response so far.
Rose found herself grinning broadly.
"What's funny?" he asked, his tone genuinely puzzled.
"It's - " she tried unsuccessfully not to laugh. "It's just that we're wandering around in a parking lot, trying to make the TARDIS beep. It's what blokes on Earth do every day of the week at the local shopping centers. Clicking their key fobs until they hear that beepboop and getting madder and madder."
He frowned at her, his feathers clearly ruffled. "I am not a bloke."
"No, no you're not." But she couldn't hold in a cascade of giggles as he pressed the button again.
"Stop laughing, Rose," he warned.
"Ah!" she actually had to wipe her eyes, laughing helplessly. "I'm sorry, Doctor, I just... I never expected that running through the stars with you would come down to a scene like this. It's just like hanging out with Mickey at the stadium after a match."
He gaped at her for a minute or two. "Mickey? This is just like hanging out with Mickey?! Why Rose Tyler, I've never been so insulted in my life. Time Lord, spaceship — " he paused for a dignified breath and indicated around him with a sweep of his arms. "shopping planet, THANK YOU VERY MUCH."
"You're right, you're right," she said quickly, giving him her best conciliatory smile. "Besides, Mickey would be swearing a whole lot more than you are."
"It's swear words you want?" he grinned nastily and proceeded to mutter a string of impressive profanities in what she could only assume was Gallifreyan.
He strode ahead to the end of their current row, raised his arm overhead, and clicked the sonic dramatically.
Beepboop!
"There, see?" he shouted triumphantly, indicating the TARDIS on the next row over. "Saved by the sonic, yet again."
Rose grinned back, tongue between her teeth. "Nicely done, Doctor. I never doubted you."
He huffed. "Yes you did. And by the way - new rule. For Rassillon's sake, someone please start paying attention to where we parked."

Crimson & Obscene (or The Obligatory Bright Young Things AU)
Chapter 3: “Mad, Bad & Dangerous to Know”
“I never considered how beautiful it really was until… Well, until I saw how it all was affecting you. But don’t worry,” Miles teased, smiling as he lightly knocked his shoulder against Crowley’s, “I won’t tell anyone that you cried. I know you have a reputation to uphold.”
“Well, I should hope my reputation includes an appreciation for the arts,” Crowley sniffed as they ventured toward the coat check, handing off their tickets to the attendant. Smirking, he mused, “Let the busybodies talk all they want about my crying at the opera. Perhaps they’ll stop hypothesizing about every other aspect of my life.”
“Oh, that’s hardly likely,” Miles disagreed as he took his coat and scarf from the attendant, winding the blue silk around his neck before shrugging into the white pea coat and doing up the buttons. After allowing Crowley a moment to slip into his own black overcoat, the two of them set out into the cool, damp evening. Just a few days more and spring would be upon them…
“Why do you say that it's unlikely?” Crowley asked as they waited for the valet to fetch his car. Hands in his pockets, he looked down at Miles with a deftly arched eyebrow. Miles just smiled.
“Because, my dear Anthony, you’re everyone’s favourite subject. The mysterious Mr. Crowley, with his secret fortune and private Mayfair flat that no one has ever stepped foot in; you’re positively a local fascination.”
The look in Miles’ eyes was entirely coquettish; it was no coincidence that he mentioned that no one had ever stepped foot in Crowley’s flat. He was fishing for an invitation, hoping to be the first to break into his secret little world. Unfortunately, no invitation came; instead, Crowley just smirked and asked, “Am I your favourite subject?”
“Only in the most confidential of company,” Miles hemmed (meaning Agatha).
“And do you find me fascinating?”
“Oh, exceedingly.”
Smiling, Miles tossed Crowley a wink as the valet pulled up with the Bentley, allowing the two of them to slide into the car’s warmth and out of London’s late-winter dampness.
As they drove, Miles found himself watching from the corner of his eye as Crowley tugged his white gloves off with his teeth before tossing each one in turn into the backseat. Not exactly the most refined way of doing things, but it was the most enrapturing. Delicately plucking his own off one finger at a time, Miles let his gaze properly settle on Crowley when the redhaired gentleman asked, “What would you like to know?”
“Sorry?”
“You said you find me exceedingly fascinating,” Crowley clarified, tapping his fingers against the Bentley’s steering wheel as he drove, the gold of his ruby ring clicking against the mahogany as he did so. “I assume that means you’re curious.”
“Well, yes. Obviously,” Miles agreed, his cheeks turning slightly pink as he added, “But I’m not presumptuous. I know you like having your secrets. What right have I to them?”
“I do like having my secrets... but maybe I’d also like having a confidant,” Crowley mused, pausing the tapping of his ring to peek over at Miles, his lips quirking upwards at the way the other gentleman’s jaw dropped ever-so-slightly. “After all, it’s not as if you’re that infamous Mr. Chatterbox, eh? I’m sure I can trust you.”
“Of course you can,” Miles breathed, the words coming out rather like a squeak.
“Then I’ll ask you again: what would you like to know?”

Waterless Mobile Car Wash Services Portland

Do not use a sponge. Do not use anything that is abrasive like steel wool, sink, or dish scrubbers. They must be soft. They must be fluffy. A wash mitt is the best. It will trap dirt instead of scraping it along your cars finish. A sponge could scratch your car. For tall cars, vans, and trucks, you can use a pole mitt. Make sure you buy a pole with a head that is specifically designed to wash a car. Many will scratch your cars finish. Remember, the fluffier the better. A wash mitt designed for car washing will hold the most suds as well. Suds is what will clean your car.
Waterless mobile car wash;
You may get the contents at any automotive store but by combining all into a car-themed putting gift basket such basic tools for an emergency road kit (road flare, cones, cords, flashlights, reflective vests and fuses) would be well appreciated by the receiver.
Using a pressure wash once in a while removes the dirt from the parts that are difficult to reach. Holding out the pressure wash jet closely to the painted surface might peel the loose paint. Places like behind moldings, inside wheel arches, under the bumpers should be washed off. This is where the dirt and salt could be accumulated. The dirt in the wind shield must also be wiped and washed. Dirts accumulated in the windshield gets caught by the windshield wipers blades and scratches the windshield when the wipers are operating.

What is waterless mobile car wash? Ions are simply impurities that exist in any normal water supply and come in the form of dissolved minerals such as calcium and sodium, When the water evaporates the minerals that were once dissolved in the water are left behind to leave unsightly spots on your paintwork. The normal course of action is to dry your car with a soft cloth or paper towel so that the water doesn't have time to evaporate and leave behind the spots. This is sometimes impractical though, especially on a hot day when the sun will dry parts of your car before you get a chance to get to them.
We also had the waterless mobile car wash services chance to pit the RAZR i against the Droid RAZR M. Aside from the benchmark results outlined above, the Medfield entry offered a marginally faster response to most actions. Powering up both phones, the RAZR i landed at its home screen around 12 seconds ahead of the Snapdragon sibling. Loading into the Chrome browser was around the same speed on both, likewise the camera app - both launching and capture - was equally swift on both. It's interesting to note that the color balance appeared more natural on the screen of the Verizon version, which matches up with our results in the camera test.
Tumblr media
Even though there are several lenders who offer car wash loans, you may have a hard time searching for one. Thus, when you are searching for them, you should know where to look as you may not find them listed in the yellow pages of a phone book. The best source to search for car wash loans lenders is the internet. In the space provided in the search engine, you just have to type the required words and within seconds you will be provided with a list of all the lending institutions that offer such funds.
Having enough pressure in your machine will allow you to clean at a deeper level and make fewer passes over a surface to get it clean. Too much pressure will take off the top layer of a surface or damage it beyond repair. When using PSI as the tool of cleaning, always approach a surface from a distance, then moving in slowly for more pressure, until you find the right distance for cleaning ability without harming the surface.
If you've ever bought parts for your car, you've probably got confused at times finding different auto parts outlets offering the same item at a wide range of prices. So you are left wondering whether quality has anything to do with this. In a broad sense, the answer is yes. The higher the price, the higher the quality. However, this is not always the case.
The main area and aim of car detailing is to fully enhance and restore the vehicles paintwork by eliminating light scratches and swirl marks that have been inflicted over time and that reflect the light in such a way that they give an unsightly cob webbing effect on the surface of the paint or clear coat. Before this is undertaken though, the exterior has to be thoroughly washed and cleaned in order to remove as much dirt and as many contaminants as possible. Valeting is something you can get from even a local fuel station - car detailing is more something which is more specialist and a service to hire by looking online. Some firms do have a specialist work facility however.
Babysitters job is not that easy as it may seem to you. A nanny is responsible for a child's meal, entertaining the child, engaging the child in learning activities and to follow the regular bedtime family routine. You cannot be lenient when you are around kids; you have to be always on your toes and keep them in your sight all the time. Kids are very stubborn and you have to be able to convince them to take their meals on time and go to bed on time.
Distressed debt and mezzanine investors packed into a cramped London courtroom to be told that IMO's senior lenders could take ownership of the company, despite objections of lower-ranked mezzanine lenders owed about 90 million pounds ($148.5 million).
One of the first things that you should look for should always be its track record. Do people (who have experienced their service) return? Are they satisfied with the service that they offer? As I mentioned earlier, you can never know what repairs were done to your car, unless you stay in the shop the whole day. The only way to find out how good the repairs were is to drive your car out.
Before you harp on me about the Cadillac Escalade EXT , I have to remind you that the Escalade EXT is based on the much-more-clever Chevy Avalanche, with a mid-gate that allowed the bed to be accessed from within the vehicle, among other goodies. They may look the same, but they don't work the same. Also, being featured in the Matrix movie sure didn't hurt the Escalade EXT's sales either.
Tumblr media
The major motive of making use of vehicle protection cover is without any doubt to protect a vehicle against a number of harms which occur driving on the road. Even essentially the most seasoned and also watchful car owners are not guarded against insignificant accidents, therefore providing your own automobile an extra security is certainly a prudent choice.
Pay attention to the signs a potential mechanic gives to you. If he cannot give you eye contact, rushes his words, or avoids answering any questions you have for him, he may be trying to hide something. Perhaps he does not really know what he is doing or is lying about something else. If this is the case, go with another mechanic.
You should not choose a repair shop or a mechanic right away if you are rushed. If your car needs some repairs right away, find a friend or family member who can lend you their vehicle or give you rides until you find a reliable garage or dealership to repair your vehicle.
I'll admit that Lincoln Aviator, the up-scale cousin of Ford Explorer, would make sense. However, whose idea is to up-scale the F-150 Crewcab? Yet it was done, and that became the Lincoln Blackwood , which died after a few years. In fact, there was a Neiman Marcus Edition of Lincoln Blackwood! It then got resurrected as the Lincoln Mark LT after a few years, then died again, at least in the US. The Lincoln Mark LT is still available in Mexico.
Buy a pair of rabbit ears. This is a flexiable rubber seal connected to a metal clamp. This unit is help flush the engine. connect the unit on the lower part of the motor were the water is picked up. Connect a water hose to the back of the rabbit ears.
In recent years, however, the environment has started to shift. In part, that's due to investigative reporting, the prevalence of social media, whistle-blowers, and stronger judicial institutions, according to The Inter-American Dialogue's report. Over the past two decades, more nations have signed on to international corruption and transparency standards like the UN Convention Against Corruption or the Open Government Partnership, of which 14 Latin American countries are signatories and have submitted action plans. There has also been greater investment in judicial systems and national oversight laws.
Understand how the repair shop you are considering charges before signing any agreements. Some shops will charge a flat fee for labor, while others base it off of time. Some will opt for original parts, while others will use generics. Know what you have ahead of you before being accountable.
We just purchased a used car and the entire car was covered in an unknown substance leaving the paint with a rough texture so i needed a waterless mobile car wash. Dealership detailed it and couldn't get it off. Searched on Yelp for a mobile auto wash business and Jay's had 5 stars and great reviews. Called them up and they were able to come out the next day. They communicated with me on their exact arrival time and let me know they were on their way. When they got here three guys got right to work and said they can get the rough texture off the car no problem. Well they didn't disappoint. Whatever was on the car is completely gone and looks fantastic. Price was reasonable and the final product was outstanding. I highly recommend these guys.

@airborneglitter, @empresskaze, and an anon or two (I see you, @chezsnez...!) are all on the same wave-length....please enjoy some racy (not quite Regency, more 1900s but close enough?) Francis and Caroline :-D
-
The lazy late spring days were growing warmer as the seaside at Plymouth eased towards summer. Francis Miller and Caroline Willison strolled arm-in-arm down the path along the cliffs, looking out at the ocean.
“Do you really have to go tomorrow?” Caroline asked.
“It'll only be for a short while,” Francis said. “I promise I'll be back within a day or two.”
“I know, but I worry for your health,” she said gently. “Is there really no excuse you can make to avoid it? I can't imagine you'll be in much of a state to host a meeting.”
“The doctor has prescribed some tinctures for my nose and a regimen for my breathing medicines,” he assured her. “It will not be pleasant, but I'll manage.”
“Still, they have to know what a burden it'll be.”
“My father left me in charge of the business and this is something I must see to. Your worry is sweet, darling. Really, I'm flattered, but I must go. There's no one but the owner that can sign off on the paperwork and it must be witnessed by a local notary.”
She stopped at a secluded bend in the path and reached to pull him close to her.
“Mother told me that we've been invited to the Bices' for a few days, but I have a secret for you.”
“A secret?” he said, smiling at her conspiratorial look.
“Yes, a secret,” she replied with a giggle. “We're all meant to go for two nights, which would mean you'd arrive back to an empty house. But I am going to claim I don't feel well and they'll go on without me.”
Francis shook his head.
“Darling, that's a ridiculous idea. You'll be all alone in that big house with naught but the footmen to look in on you and I can't imagine I'll be much company when I get back.”
“A little of your company is better than none at all,” she said, running her hands across his chest. “We'll be all alone for a whole day.”
A whole day I'm sniffling and recovering from my trip, Francis thought, but he did not speak the sentiment aloud. Caroline was being terribly bold making this proposition and he did not have it in himself to refuse. The idea of coming back to her was much sweeter than that of coming back to an empty house, even if he was likely to be an asthmatic mess.
“The whole day?” he repeated. “Well then, I suppose you must find a reason you can't go to the Bices'.”
She grinned and leaned up to kiss him.
-
The next day, Francis had the valet drive him to the train station and he took the ten o'clock into Euston. The stay in London was brief and very unpleasant. By the time he boarded the train back towards Plymouth, his eyes were so swollen that he could barely see and his nose was chapped and raw from the frequent use of his handkerchief.
He managed to fall asleep on the train after a sleepless, sneeze-filled night in his flat in London. He emerged from the train in Plymouth in much the same way that he usually did when he arrived for the hay season: swollen, itchy, and utterly miserable.
The Willisons had arranged for a cab to pick him up, having taken the car to the Bice residence. The driver seemed utterly baffled by Francis' condition.
“Are you quite ill, sir?”
“No,” Francis rasped from behind the shield of his handkerchief as the driver loaded his trunk into the boot. “It's hay-asthma. I'm quite sensitive to the grass and the smoke and –hehh...ehh-TSGCHHT!!”
He sneezed throatily into the handkerchief and could not help but give his nose a short blow to clear it. The whole thing was terribly improper, but it could not be helped. He hurried into the waiting car and blew his nose noisily once more before the driver could get in and hear him.
The ride back to the Willison's estate was a dizzy affair. Francis' head felt so clogged that he could not equalize the pressure in his ears and a pounding sinus headache left him sitting with his fingers pinched between his closed eyes, praying for relief.
When they arrived at the house, one of the footmen was waiting to unload his things. Francis stumbled inside, coughing a little. The dim light of the house was kinder to his swollen eyes than the brighter sunshine outside, but it would be hours before he felt any true relief from his symptoms.
“Please have my things laundered before they're sent up,” he instructed Parker. “I'm going to retire for the rest of the day. I trust I'll be left alone?”
“Yes, sir,” Parker said. “Ring if anything is needed. Otherwise, we won't expect you down again today.”
Francis nodded gratefully and headed up the staircase up to his room. By the time he reached it, his nose was streaming a thin trail down onto his upper lip and his breathing came in a slight wheezy whistle. He pushed open the door to his bedroom and slipped inside, eagerly shedding his coat and ascot as he sat down on the edge of his bed.
From his pocket, he fished out a fresh handkerchief, feeling the start of another attack coming on. He was just taking a hitching breath, battling the itch, as the bedroom door opened and Caroline slipped in.
Eh-SGHGHT!
“Oh, darling,” she said with a sigh. “Sweet boy.”
Francis couldn't look at her. He was too distracted by the intense tickle. He wrinkled his nose and made a small sound of discomfort before launching fully into the fit.
Eh-TSCHHT! Nghhh-tsGHHTT! Ngh'GHXTT! Tshh-GHSXHT!
Caroline was sitting at his side now, he hand gently caressing his back as he trembled with each urgent sneeze. Finally, with a shaky gasp, the fit ended.
“Oh, love,” she said, leaning in to kiss his cheek. “You poor thing.”
He blushed and shook his head.
“It's temporary,” he choked out. “I'll recover.”
“I know,” she said. “You always do. It makes me sad to see you so uncomfortable though.”
He sniffled and wiped his nose with his handkerchief.
“I'm sorry,” he said. “I feel like a complete mess. This must disgust you.”
She gave him a funny look and then reached over, taking the handkerchief from his grasp.
“No,” she said, reaching up and dabbing his nose with great care. “I love everything about you. Even your miserable bits.”
He blushed more and looked down at his hands.
“That can't be true,” he said.
“Francis Miller,” she said, grabbing his hand and squeezing it. “The man I fell in love with comes here every spring precisely because of this affliction. Without it, there would be no 'us'. And I must be honest with you, darling: I find it rather endearing.”
“Endearing?” he said incredulously. “That---ehhh....Caroline, I ....I...hafta....ehhh...”
Unafraid, she pressed the handkerchief to his swollen nose and he sneezed freely, unable to help himself.
Ehh-TSGXGHTT!
With great care, she pinched the cloth off the end of his nose and gave it a delicate wipe.
“See?” she said.
He bit his lip, both embarrassed and amused by her.
“Love?” she said. “I...well, isn't it best if you get out of your travelling things?”
He glanced down at his shirt and trousers, both likely coated in pollen and dust.
“I suppose,” he said with a shrug and a sniffle.
“I can help with that,” she said, smiling.
He stood and she circled in front of him, hands deftly unbuttoning his shirt. She slid her hands in across the bare skin his chest and guided it off him. Then she went to his fly, unbuttoning the trousers and tugging them down over his slip hips. He stood in naught but his pants and socks, starring at her with red, itchy eyes. He could feel his heart beat quickening as she put her hands on his hips and pulled him close.
“Not fair,” he whispered into her ear. His nose was itching fiercely but he battled to ignore it. His hands found the silk-covered buttons of her blouse and he started to slowly undo them one by one, pausing to run his fingers across the rise of her breasts. He was almost to the last one when he faltered.
“It's okay,” she urged, mistaking his hesitation for nerves.
“Sorry, I--”
He pulled away, pressing a wrist into his nose.
Ngh-XHT!
“Bless you,” she said, reaching out to tuck a curl of his hair behind his ear.
“Oh god,” he murmured. “This isn't how I imagined this.”
“It's just as I did,” she said shyly.
“What do you mean?” he asked, rubbing at his eye.
“I don't mind, I mean,” she said, pressing up again him and leaning in to kiss his neck. He leaned his head back, coughing lightly as post-nasal drip drained down his throat.
“You...hehh...”
“I don't mind,” she repeated, not letting go of her hold on his waist.
“Caroline...” he said breathlessly. “I...hehh...”
She cupped her hand to the back of his head and lowered to into her shoulder.
He could not help himself. His hitching breath became erratic and then the sneeze burst out of him. He tried to stifle as best he could but it didn't quite work.
Ehh-GXHHT!
Caroline stroked the back of his hair and he raised his head up, blinking at her in confusion. She was flushed pink across her cheeks, glowing with youth and passion.
“Kiss me,” she said softly, craning up to reach his lips.
He obliged shyly, hyper-aware of the dampness of his own nose as it touched hers.
Breaking the embrace to take a shaky breath, he resumed unbuttoned her blouse and lifted it off, following with her camisole. She pushed down her skirts and stood in her bloomers and corset. Taking his hand, she went to the bed and slowly lay down, tugging him along with her.
The change in orientation was not appreciated by his congested respiratory system. He started to cough almost instantly. She pushed herself up onto one arm and reached over to stroke his chest and kiss him along the breastbone as it heaved and strained.
“Sit up,” she said gently, helping him back up. “Sorry.”
He got the coughs under control and he leaned into her, catching his breath.
“I don't think I'm up to this,” he wheezed.
“I know, sweet,” she said, caressing his cheek. “I'm sorry. I didn't mean for things to get out of hand. I just...we're so rarely unsupervised. I thought...well...”
He flushed, feeling his growing arousal in spite of the allergies. He huffed a cough into his shoulder and then turned back to her with a small smile.
“You're right, darling,” he said softly. “If you don't mind, I can manage.”
She bit her lip, smiling coyly as she reached back to unlace her corset.
“I'll do that,” he said and she turned around, kneeling between his legs. He tugged at the laces, slowly undoing them one by one as he kissed up and down the ivory skin of her neck.
Hehh...
His nose was not finished. Though it was swollen to the point of inefficacy, it would not rest. He turned it against his shoulder and sneezed with an exhausted, heavy sound.
Hurhh-tsgHGHHH!
Caroline put her hand back onto his thigh and gave it a gentle squeeze of encouragement. He finished unlacing her and tugged the corset off, running his hands over the swell of her breasts. She turned and lowered herself to the bed, pushing down her bloomers. He reached into his pants and slowly straddled her.
They moved together slowly, taking time to explore with their hands as they began to pulse in rhythm. Caroline made a low, moaning sound and Francis blushed madly, feeling himself growing more eager with her demonstrated passion.
His pulse quickened and soon he was straining for air, still eager for touch and release but also on the verge of coughing.
He sputtered a little, breath catching as a wave of pleasure rocked through him.
“It's okay,” she urged breathlessly, reaching up and touching his chest.
He thrust forward and she moaned louder. A massive release came through him and he saw stars for a brief second. The congestion in his head popped and a rush of drainage leaked into his throat. He sniffled and found both nostrils unclogged for the first time in days.
She was still rocking into him eagerly, begging for a release of her own. He was too distracted by the change in pressure in his head.
Ngh-TSCHIHHHH!
He sneezed unexpectedly and the motion of it was enough to send her over the edge. She cried out, shaking and turning limp. He rolled off of her, reaching for a handkerchief and he blew his nose noisily.
“Ugh,” he groaned, giving it another short blow. “Sorry.”
“That is not something to be sorry about,” she said breathily, watching him from her spot boneless and limp against the pillows. She was smiling. “Come here.”
He lay down with the handkerchief held to his runny nose. She cuddled him close against her and he closed his eyes, suddenly feeling the exhaustion of the battle against his condition and the post-coital relaxation. She ran her fingers through his curls, humming softly.
“Thank you,” he whispered sleepily.
“For what?”
“For not being disgusted with me. I...I'm afraid most people don't take kindly to my weakness.”
“It's not your entire existence,” she said. “There are plenty lovely things about you. And I don't fear a bit of sneezing, especially coming from you.”
She was looking at him fondly.
“Red and pink are your colours,” she said, looking at his nose, cheeks, and eyes.
He laughed softly.
“I very much doubt it.”
“It's what you always look like when you return to me. And for that reason, I like it the most.”

The Uber drivers were plentiful, but not always well marked.  The friendly fellow working in the median near the Apartheid Museum in Johannesburg helped us find a black car.  The driver quoted us a fair price to our desired location and we all hopped in.  He took us safely to our location and advised us that we would be safe if we stayed on the main block in Maboneng Precinct.  We paid him and thanked him, and imagined how shocked our husbands would be over our inhibitions!
When the four of us from our book club decided to travel to Africa to go on safari, we wanted to make the most of the trip.  We googled, pinned blogs and borrowed library books about Africa.  After several dinner meetings, and communications with a travel agent, our itinerary was settled.
Two nights in Johannesburg.  Six nights on safari and 3 nights in Capetown.
We flew from New York to Johannesburg on British Airlines with a 2 hour layover in London.  The long flight in coach was bearable with friends, and movies and wine and my butt pillow.  Really, the butt pillow was key on this trip.  We tried to sleep a little on the 11 hour flight from London to Johannesburg.  We had a busy day ahead of us.
We arrived in the morning and were met by our driver that had been arranged in advance by our travel agent.  Some people avoid visiting Jo’burg due to poverty and crime.  We avoided those areas and did not go out late at night and were just fine.  Should you visit Johannesburg? YES!
Our driver took us to The Winston Hotel in Melrose Estate, Johannesburg.  A small boutique style hotel with a pool, bar and restaurant.  The service was friendly and although the rooms weren’t ready, we enjoyed lunch by the pool upon arrival and soon checked into the spacious rooms.
Our hotel called for a taxi to take us to the Apartheid museum   We felt being in South Africa we should get some background information on the history of the country.  Apartheid was designed to segregate people of different races: white, black colored (mix of black and white) and Asian. Upon entering the museum, you must enter through a randomly generated admission ticket: white or non-white.  It gives you a sense of the era.
After our visit we were stumped with how to get to the next place.  One of us had the Uber app but cell service was not so good, the sun was setting and we needed help.  The friendly valet hailed us a ride to Maboneng Precinct where we enjoyed strolling the street looking at hand made crafts. We dined in a crowded restaurant featuring live music and African cuisine called Pata Pata. After dinner, the restaurant manager called an Uber for us and went out to the street to talk to our driver to be sure we made it back to our hotel safely.  We felt safe and full of adventure after our first day in Africa.
Our car was waiting in the hotel parking lot at 4:30 am.  The hotel packed us breakfast for the ride as we started our hour journey to Bill Harrop’s Original Balloon Safari.  Three balloon were impressively inflated and we climbed into a basket holding 12 adults.  We took amazing photos and were awed by the quiet being thousands of feet about the ground.  Upon landing we toasted with a champagne breakfast.
Our private car was waiting after the flight and took us to the nearby Cradle of Humankind.  We took a guided tour of the Sterkfontein Caves were the discovery of a 2.3 million year old human fossil (Mrs. Ples) was found in 1947.  The museum detailed archaeological developments throughout history. After we had our fill of history, our driver took us back to the hotel where we spent the rest of the afternoon relaxing poolside and enjoying dinner at the on site restaurant.
Day 3 the Uber driver picked us up early and we headed to the airport for a flight to Durban King Shaka International airport.  The one hour flight is relatively inexpensive with over 150 flights from Jo’burg per day.  Our flight was uneventful and we were met by a van from the Zulu Nyala Heritage Safari Lodge where we planned to spend the next 6 nights.
We arrived after the 3:00 safari had already left so we were unable to take a drive on the first day.  The property was pleasantly designed with 2 outdoor pools, a large restaurant, spacious rooms with updated bathrooms, a lobby with WiFi, a shop and even a Zulu Cultural Village with daily tribal reenactments.
Day 4 in Africa we started with a 6:00 am drive to the nearby fenced in Zulu Nyala Game Reserve.  The reserve is small at seven square miles.  It has 4 of the big 5 – Leopard, rhino, elephant and cape buffalo – no lions but we did see a very relaxed cheetah.  Our guide planned to be with the 4 of us and 6 other guests for each drive during the week. He let us know about different excursions available and we made arrangements to take advantage of those as well.
Each day we had a morning and late afternoon safari drive. Our guide would communicate with the other trucks who were also in the reserve and bring us to the areas where animals had been sighted.  We saw giraffes walking beside our truck at sunrise, hippos swimming in a waterhole, a cheetah sunning herself on the road, elephants drinking from the river, cape buffalo and a variety of deer.
We planned a visit to a nearby residence to have a close encounter with 2 beautiful, tame older elephants.  They had been orphaned and hand reared and now wandered free at this private reserve.  They seemed to enjoy visiting with us as we fed them and posed for photos during our visit.
Another afternoon we took advantage of a different game park that had lions.  We were in for a thrill when our tour guide brought the truck not 10 feet away from 2 lionesses and 2 cubs lounging in the sun.  We watched for over an hour as the cubs nursed, napped, played and then mom pounced but missed a clueless warthog who wandered too close to the family. Lion Safari in South Africa
Not being ones to lounge around on this trip, we decided to head to the Indian Ocean with our guide one day.  Feet in the ocean is always a fun goal on any trip!  Our excursion this day also included a boat ride on the St. Lucia River to see hippos, birds and crocodiles.  We had lunch in a little beach town that warned people of hippo crossings – the most dangerous animals in Africa that cause more deaths than any other animal.
Our time on safari ended too soon but we had one more exciting part of our journey to go: Capetown.
The people at Zulu Nyala Heritage Safari Lodge arranged for our transportation back to Durban for our two hour flight to Capetown.  Upon arrival taxis were available, however our travel agent had once again booked a car service for us to our hotel.  We had researched hotels and decided that The Portswood Hotel near the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront would best suit our needs.
We settled into our hotel rooms then quickly took an Uber to Table Mountain.  The cable car is accessible from the bottom in town and brings a group of about 60 up to the top.  The views were amazing and we stayed to watch the sunsetting.  One of the best sunsets ever.
We called for another Uber back to our hotel, freshened up and walked over to the lively waterfront area.  Lots of shops, restaurants and tourists walked happily beside the ferris wheel, street musicians and boats along the harbor.  We had arranged with a native South African who had visited the States to give us a private tour during our time in Capetown.  We met him during our breakfast, which of course was included with the hotel room as had been every morning of our trip so far.
We packed a bag and piled into his car for our wine tasting tour day which started at a local farm.  Then onto the Stellenbosch vineyards and some sight seeing at Boland Mountain Complex Park.  Dinner that night was at the hotel and we turned in early.
Day 11 we met at breakfast and started our trip down the coast of Capetown.  We went as far south as we could get at the Cape Point National Park. We drove past a wild ostrich and then onto Boulders Beach where we walked along a board walk and saw then happy little penguins on the beach. After a lovely lunch at Fish Hoek in Kalk Bay where we saw seals and sea lions on the dock we headed to Muizenberg to see the surfers and the colorful beach cabanas.
Our day trip was amazing as always and we felt the urge to shop and bring home souvenirs that evening.  Plenty of shops had stuff to buy right there at the waterfront (although we could have gotten the same thing if we waited until we got to the airport)
The last day, we had an afternoon flight.  Our tour guide picked us up after breakfast and took us through the colorful streets in town called Bo-Kaap. After taking a few fun photos, we drove up Signal Hill to see Table Mountain from another angle as well as Robben Island where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for 18 years.  After that we went to the beautiful Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden where we ate lunch and saw the most interesting flowers and birds.
Each day of our visit we were more in awe of what we experienced.  From the people we met, to the animals we saw to the places we visited it was indeed the trip of a life time.  Some of the trip was done with our own research.  Some was supported with the help of our wonderful travel agent, Rosemary Martinek.  Some was provided by the safari we went on.  Some with a little help from a friend.
If it is on your bucket list, do it.  You will not be disappointed!   amzn_assoc_placement = "adunit0"; amzn_assoc_search_bar = "true"; amzn_assoc_tracking_id = "runawaywidow-20"; amzn_assoc_ad_mode = "manual"; amzn_assoc_ad_type = "smart"; amzn_assoc_marketplace = "amazon"; amzn_assoc_region = "US"; amzn_assoc_title = "My Amazon Picks"; amzn_assoc_linkid = "4855e4af5258f3292f5186fb8dfc125c"; amzn_assoc_asins = "B01AITOZSA,B07CVG467T,B07RXW9J75,1492620599";
