I've basically just had the idea of making different Eurovision artists Pokémon teams but I can't draw and I'm putting my idea out there incase anyone would like to draw this. I will also give a bit of my thought process for each team. I may end up adding more later on as I think of more teams for people. You will be able to see which ones I put the most thought into.

Nemo:

Milotic, oricorio pa,u style, plusle, whismur, delcatty, mew.

For oricorio it reminded me of their outfit at Eurovision. I couldn't think of any clownfish Pokémon so I picked milotic because in gen 3 you you need to max out it's beauty stat for contests to evolve feebas into milotic and that somehow reminds me of how Nemo dresses how they want to. Plusle pairs with someone else. Whismur is a sound based Pokémon. I tried giving everyone a mythical which suited them and I thought mew suited Nemo the best.

Silvester:

Togekiss, servine, sylveon, ribombee, minun, jirachi

I got the idea for servine from the music video for tyliai, tyliai. I just thought a bunch of fairy types suited him. Mínum pairs with plusle. Jirachi was the mythical I thought suited him best.

Bambie:

Absol, alteria, duskull, grimmsnarl, gothitelle, marshadow

Absol is a misunderstood Pokémon, people believe to causes disasters but it actually earns them of the incoming disasters. Grimmsnarl is just here because of it's typing of dark/fairy which I think suits Bambie well, they are a sweet person but people view them differently because of their music and the way they dress. That is also the reason for a mix of cute Pokémon and I don't know how describe the rest. I think gothitelle suits their vibe. I'm just going to stop with explaining the mythicals, I just thought it was the best mythical for them.

Luke:

Crawdaunt, greavard, rotom, hypno, musharna, shaymin

These were much simpler thought processes. Crawdaunt=lobster. Greavard because small cute dog that fits his vibe and I don't think there are any pug Pokémon. Rotom because of his song glitch. Hypno and musharna because they are to do with sleep.

Baby lasagna:

Luxray, meowscarada, litten, meowstic (male), meowstic (female), toxtricity.

Cats and cool Pokémon that uses it's chest as a guitar. It is as simple as that. That's the thought process. Later thought, other Pokémon that could fit are miltank, tauros, the mareep line and mudsdale.

Jure maček:

Skitty, espurr, liepard, Persian, glameow, rilaboom.

Cats and a drummer. I don't think my thought process could be simpler here.

He likes gengar. Dachsbun reminds me of his dog, I'm sorry I can't remember the name. There aren't any Pokémon that play bass so he got a different music based Pokémon. All of joker out have a Pokémon linked to what they do in the band except nace. Lilligant pairs with a Pokémon I gave to someone else. Yes I will keep giving people 2 Pokémon that are eachothers counterparts. I don't know why I picked sandshrew, it kind fits his vibe.

Kaarija:

Bulbasaur, zorua, riolu, buizel, spheal, bagon

I don't think bulbasaur needs to be explained. These are all Pokémon I think are cute and evolve into Pokémon that are cool and rather strong. I got the idea for the rest of the team from bulbasaur.

Filip Baloš:

Alolan meowth, smeargle, grafaiai, kickitune, leavanny, arboliva

Meowth is here because he has a cat. Smeargle is a painter like him. Grafaiai is the only other art related Pokémon. Kickitune, arboliva and leavanny are all Pokémon that artist characters use within the games.

B-52's - s/t

Is there anything more sincere, unfettered by societal norms, and relentlessly fun that the B-52's debut album? So much of the lyricism is extremely esoteric, almost certainly in jokes between the band members. The album makes no effort to explain and it's better to just lose yourself in the nonsense. Like what the fuck is Planet Claire about? Who cares? There's a moon in the sky and it's called the moon! Analyze that! Fred Schneider and Kate Pierson have the most iconic vocals of all time. Pierson has like a million octave range and Schneider's uh wikipedia calls it sprechgesang which is very funny to me, but his delivery is so beloved that I don't think anyone can resist giving it a go from time to time. The album is a manic daze the music bounces around stuck between hyper modern (for the time) new wave and deeply anachronistic 50s and 60s throwbacks like the surf rock on the monster hit Rock Lobster. Unfettered, unhinged, this album is pure and perfect camp.

The Beatles - Meet The Beatles

Why on earth would you choose the US version instead of the obviously superior UK release? Listen I'll compromise by listening to the three songs from Meet that aren't on With but then I'm just going to listen to With The Beatles because fuck you I like their covers. Their version of Please Mister Postman is great and so is their Money (That's What I Want). With The Beatles is basically just a slightly more polished and more consistent take on the sound of their first album. I think they fell off a bit with A Hard Days Night too so the inclusion of more covers and more rock and roll style shit is exactly what I want. Basically fuck the haters early Beatles is camp I like it.

Robyn - Body Talk

A lot of people really vibe with this kind of glossy candy-coated pop but all I hear is a lot of thumping with little meaningful artistic direction. The least interesting parts of Ke$ha and Lady Gaga distilled into a slurry of commercially viable pop music whose sole redeeming feature is a handful of good beats.

Leonard Cohen - Songs Of Leonard Cohen

Already an established poet by the time he decided to pick up the guitar it could be argued that Leonard Cohen was a little too literate to be a successful musician. His debut definitely gives that impression, although his evocative language and simple but effective guitar work definitely won over listeners in the end. Suzanne, the first track from his first album was his largest hit until hallelujah in the 80s and I think that's largely because it has a melody that you can hum. To me the best of it is when Cohen is allowed to just sing and play guitar with little to no embellishment. The lyricism is the main draw after all. The songs of isolation, of lovers having to say goodbye, of people lost in a large world. Cohen is a masterful songwriter but certainly a perpetual downer and might scan as pretentious to some. This is one of those albums that fantastic within it's niche but might not be for everyone.

Michael Jackson - Bad

Man I know Thriller is gonna be like super high on this list but Bad is absolutely my favorite Michael Jackson record. It's just banger after banger. The hits alone are bonkers Bad, The Way You Make Me Feel, Man In The Mirror, Smooth Criminal. But oh man the deep cuts are great too, in fact Speed Demon might be my favorite just for that goofy little synth bass run. The album is just bubblier and sillier than his previous work. It's extremely 80s with synths everywhere never trying to hide from what it is. There is simply no way to avoided bopping along to the whole album, it's just so goddamn enjoyable.

Rock Lobster

I have been taking group music lessons for the past few years at School of Rock. The goal is to learn songs well enough to perform on stage. Most of the time I have been learning the bass guitar parts for songs, but during our last show I got a chance to do lead vocals on a DEVO song. It went over so well that I have been cast as lead on another song for our upcoming show: Rock Lobster by the B-52s.

This song is a good choice both because I have a very limited vocal range, and because I understand that I need to make up for this with stage presence. The attached video is going to be my template for how to learn and perform the song. No promises on the moustache though.

Been thinking about my silly crossovers again and I must ask everyone to consider:

Nanami Hiromachi as besties with Yusuke Kitagawa.

Both are amazing artists.

Both are considered weird or "unique."

Both have some connection to crustaceans (Yusuke = lobsters; Nanami = shrimp/artemia)

Both play bass guitar. (Yusuke in P5D)

Both are famous to some degree (moreso infamous in Yusuke's case.)

The Phantom Thieves of Hearts are canonicaly present in BanG Dream.

Nanami hides her real personality to appear more normal while Yusuke embraces his quirks and sees them as normal.

Nanami learned how to play bass just to join Morfonica and thought it was a perfectly normal thing to do, and if that isn't such a Yusuke way of thinking idk what is.

Nanami works at a restaurant that Yusuke frequently visits and is where they met. The first time he showed up starving without any money, she took pity on him and gave him some free snacks. It turned into a regular thing for them as they became friends.

Yusuke becomes the only person Nanami is comfortable being 100% herself around and doesn't hide her artistic skills and intellect.

Yusuke encourages her to be happy with who she is, regardless of what others may think. She's already "normal." He teaches her that real friends will stay by her side no matter what.

They become each others' muse and share lots of art advice and critique each others' work. They both also recount stories of some paintings they made and some less than great experiences of drinking paint water.

Yusuke plays bass in a dream he has and is inspired to learn how to play for real, so he asks Nanami to give him lessons. She agrees of course. She also takes him shopping for a bass and gifts him his very first one.

Catch "Beat" if you can!

Catch "Beat" if you can! Last night my buddy and I caught "Beat" at the San Jose Civic. For those who don't know, "Beat" is Adrian Belew and Tony Levin from King Crimson, with Steve Vai on lead guitar and Danny Carey on drums. If you're a KC fan, you are in for a treat! My buddy, who saw them on a tour in the early 2000s, said this was an even better show. They sounded fresh and tight, but also loose and everything grooved. Danny Carey really impressed me, as he's such a machine, and he actually loosened up a bit for this - in a groove way.Steve Vai is not Robert Fripp. I love them both, and it's like lobster & filet mignon - both great tastes but not the same thing. That being said, I think they worked his style in really well, and he ripped it as you would think he would. But he's such a great player - he might get a bad rap for having an ego but he stayed off to the side (a la Fripp) and just played his parts. It was perfect.Of course Adrian Belew was his awesome, eclectic self. His voice sounded great and though we had to wait until almost the end to hear "Elephant Talk" (my favorite song of his). And Tony Levin was phenomenal of course! As a bass player, I was stoked that our tickets were on his side. The polyrhythms he plays on the Chapman Stick are so mind blowing! All in all it was an outstanding night, and so glad I was finally able to see this music performed with excellence. Go if you can! Song Review: The Sam Grisman Project - “Ain’t No Bugs on Me” (Live 2023)

Reinforcing the notion children’s songs can be lyrically playful and musically quite serious, the Sam Grisman Project presents “Ain’t No Bugs on Me.”

As performed at FreshGrass 2023 with dual acoustic guitars, mandolin, fiddle, double bass, percussion and two-part harmony, the unplugged Project rekindled Jerry Garcia and David Grisman in Massachusetts while also establishing their own thing as they sing:

There ain’t no lobsters on me/there may be lobsters on some of ya mobsters/but there ain’t no lobsters on me

All but the drums take short solos and the audience responds lustily on this just-released professional video. It’s a cover, yes, but also original in its presentation.

Sleepy Gonzales- Mercy Kill EP (Light Organ)

You may not have heard of Sleepy Gonzales(me neither), but you soon will after this EP drops. Another great band out of British Columbia via Surrey. According to Discogs, they’ve only released a few albums; but if you check out their Bandcamp page, you’ll find a whole lot more. Two brothers, Beni and Cristian Hobson-Dimas met Ally Lowry in grade school. Throw in bass player Nick Moniz, and you have the band. The EP starts off with “Skylight,” a soft piano driven ballad. Gorgeously sung by Ally. Then the guitar kicks in and builds and builds ending with fireworks to seal the deal. The lyrics add to the mood, “I am a skylight, Seeping in, I don’t wanna be someone, Who never lets the sun in, What am I so proud of? My little accomplishments? Where am I even going? Next up, “Destrøyer” shifts to an all-out wall of distortion. Lead, raspy male vocals take control leaving Ally’s vocals to the background. Another tale of wild times that ends in a sea of screams. “Said "I just don’t need it." Still found me in the yard out cold; Said they just don’t see it; Where we’re from, this ain’t an issue.” “Freaking Out” highlights the boy/girl harmonies of the band. Another fast-paced rocker.  The tense lyrics truly add to this song. “I am freaking outside and I know that you’re no good for me and I am no good for you, but I’ll stay with you all day, all night, if you ask me to. Those helicopters flocking over the beach, They are storming like killer bees coming to get me.” Track 4, “Couch Song,” slows things down a bit with Ally on lead vocals again. A sad song about family life struggles coupled with pursuing dreams. “Dad’s on the couch again; Mom’s on a rant again; You’re on the road again; And I’m shifting gears again.” The EP ends with the title track, “Mercy Kill (single edit).” Another showcase of the great boy/girl harmonies. A dreamy swirl of sound that you hope will never end. A crazy song that tells a story, but of what? Police, flowers, sharks, lobsters, who knows? But it adds to the mood. “A valley of sirens, At least 2 or 3 police carry me…A closet medicating lily of the valley daydream…To mistake the two while you’re taking out the shark teeth…Seeing Lobster body, Steaming pot lid, becoming a ceiling.” 

Despite touring through the US numerous times, looks like we’ll have to wait to catch these guys live. Not seeing any upcoming shows listed on their website. Mercy Kill is a great EP filled with a variety of sounds to tide us over until another full-length album surfaces. Robert "Bob" Floyd Headcanons

- Never wears matching socks. Never.

- He listens to 2000s rock music [but rarely around others]

- He was a chorus kid in highschool (this thought has been in my head for DAYS)

- Favourite movie is Killer Klownz from Outer Space

- Dont play Mario Kart/Wii Sports/Just Dance with him. Just dont. You will lose very badly.

- Didnt learn to ride a bike properly till he was around 12. He could technically ride a bike but couldnt keep it straight or up for too long.

- He had a funeral for his pet goldfish when he was 8.

- The legs to his glasses are superglued in place. He broke them by rolling over on them while asleep. (I have infact done this before and I do have the legs to my glasses glued in place)

- Cant tell you where he wants to eat, but can tell you where he doesnt want to eat.

- Drives a 2018 Honda Accord

- This man is picky as hell when it comes to sweet tea and prefers light ice in it.

- He can draw really well.

- Cant be near people eating fish or lobster. He doesnt like seeing the bones or shell, thinks its gross looking.

- Definitely not a lightweight when it comes to drinking. He hardly ever drinks though.

- When he does get drunk he does not SHUT UP. My man is a talker and will suddenly remember every single detail from a problem that happened when he was 15.

- Human Heater Unit. Blankets off even when its freezing in the bed.

- Will get you anything you want. Even if yall are just friends. You see a nail polish color you like? He will get it for you. (Love language is gift giving)

- He once took apart a whole DVD player and put it back together (correctly) with no help at all

- He can play bass guitar.
