Dylan O’Brien Sets ‘Twinless’ With James Sweeney Directing & Starring; Republic Pictures Takes Global On Three Point Capital & David Permut Production

EXCLUSIVE: Dylan O’Brien is set to headline in James Sweeney‘s dark comedy Twinless, which the latter wrote and will also star in. Republic Pictures has taken global rights to the movie. Cameras are currently rolling on the movie in Portland, OR. O’Brien will executive produce.

The pic follows two young men who meet in a twin bereavement support group. An unlikely bromance develops between them. Twinless follow Sweeney’s directorial debut, Straight Up, which notched the filmmaker a Best First Screenplay nom at the 2021 Independent Spirit Awards.

Three Point Capital is financing the film with Ali Jazayeri, David Gendron and Liz Destro also serving as EPs.

Twinless is produced by Academy Award nominated producer David Permut and Permut Presentations (Hacksaw Ridge, Face/Off) whose most recent Netflix movie, Rustin, garnered Colman Domingo a Best Actor Oscar nomination.

Miky Lee (Parasite) Vice Chairwoman of CJ and who most recently executive produced the Oscar nominated film Past Lives, serves as EP.

Permut Presentations Director Of Development Alex Astrachan co-produces.

Permut said, “I was absolutely knocked out by James’ first film Straight Up and was determined to work with him. I immediately responded to the originality and provocative concept of Twinless. The dark comedy depicts complex characters in such an irreverent, emotional and hysterical way. The chemistry between Dylan, who portrays the role of identical twin brothers, opposite James’ character is absolutely combustible.”

O’Brien’s most recent film is the independent feature Ponyboi, in which he plays a villainous pimp and small-time drug dealer, recently premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. He will next be seen in the upcoming films SNL 1975 (from director Jason Reitman) as Dan Aykroyd, Caddo Lake (from the writing-directing team of Logan George and Celine Held, and producer M. Night Shyamalan), and Anniversary (a thriller co-starring Diane Lane, Kyle Chandler, Zoey Deutch and Phoebe Dynevor). The $1.7 billion grossing star is well-known to audiences from his work in The Maze Runner franchise, as well as the hit MTV series Teen Wolf.

Permut also recently produced the Paramount+ series hit, Lawman: Bass Reeves from Taylor Sheridan, which stars SAG nominee David Oyelowo. His upcoming high priority slate includes Being Heumann written and directed by Academy Award winner Sian Heder (CODA) at Apple, Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris’ (Little Miss Sunshine) film The Invite, and Face/Off II at Paramount, the sequel to Permut’s 1997 hit film, to be directed by Adam Wingard.

Clerks 3 Will Recreate Famous Jay & Silent Bob Scene from the Original

The original Clerks was, arguably, geek culture’s first major shot across the mainstream bow upon its Oct. 1994 release. Having rode Cannes Film Festival buzz from earlier that year, the print-media-proliferated story of a regular dude from New Jersey selling his precious comic book collection to help fund his $27,575 indie passion project stoked a cultural curiosity that money couldn’t buy. Of course, said curiosity yielded the breakthrough of a lifetime for the dude in question, Kevin Smith. Now, some 27 years and several shared-universe films later, the filmmaker and recent Masters of the Universe visionary reveals that Clerks III will provide the ultimate onscreen homage to his watershed original: A Jay & Silent Bob dance number.

The wrap of principal photography for Clerks III was announced by director Smith in a celebratory tweet accompanied by a photo of the cast and producers inside of Quick Stop Groceries, specifically in front of what may very well be the most famous convenience store checkout counter in film history. However, he also teased the extent of the film’s inevitable array of nostalgic callbacks. Notably, he reveals that the final scene shot was a recreation of a famous, lines-deprived scene in the black-and-white original film, in which resident weed-addled storefront loiterers, Jay (Jason Mewes) and Silent Bob (Smith), break into a slam dance as “Violent Mood Swings (Thread Mix)” by ‘90s radio era Industrial/Alternative band Stabbing Westward blasts on a boombox.

The original scene (which you can watch just below) was hardly supplemental to the plot, and appears randomly in the film, almost as an interlude utilized for pacing. However, the scene’s unforgettable nature is attributed both to the rather abrupt way it puts a comical veneer of accessibility on the drug-dealing twosome, who initially came across as rough characters—due to the contrast of Jay’s loud rhetoric and Bob’s initially-ominous silence. While some viewers might have predicted that the duo would eventually start a potentially-violent confrontation with embattled uptight counter jockey Dante Hicks (Brian O’Halloran) and adjoining, acerbic video store steward Randal Graves (Jeff Anderson), their bluster was merely a facade. The scene initially sets a dark, shadowy, expressionistic tone before breaking into Jay’s wacky, quasi-hip-hop dance moves, and gets funnier when Bob unprecedentedly breaks his stoicism to join in on the number. Consequently, the duo was instantly transformed from dangerous delinquents into the C-3PO and R2-D2 of Smith’s still-embryonic View Askewniverse.

Coming off that comical metamorphosis, Mewes’s Jay and Smith’s Silent Bob served as the unifying thread of the latter’s cinematic continuity, setting the duo’s returns, in more blatantly-comical form, for live-action movies Mallrats (1995), Chasing Amy (1997), Dogma (1999), headlining glory in Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back (2001), Clerks II (2006) and, most recently, Jay and Silent Bob Reboot (2019). Thusly, with Clerks III now on the horizon, the duo’s overall number of film appearances will soon stand with eight films—and that’s not even counting their animated appearances, first in 2000’s short-lived ABC-aired Clerks: The Animated Series, and feature Jay & Silent Bob’s Super Groovy Cartoon Movie (2013). Moreover, in the event that Smith’s long-mooted plans for a direct Mallrats sequel finally bears fruit, then they would likely make it to nine movies. It’s quite the prolific CV for a couple of ne’er-do-wells, thanks, in part, to a certain shadowy dance number in front of the Quick Stop.

For Smith, the completion of Clerks III represents the culmination of several years’ worth of false starts, notably halted in the wake of his Feb. 2018 heart attack. He would finally get things back on track in late-2019, having scrapped his previous script, starting completely anew and bringing his proverbial band of convenience store dwellers back together for a production that would slowly navigate the pandemic. Indeed, Smith, Mewes, O’Halloran and Anderson are all back, as is Rosario Dawson, who reprises her Clerks II role as Becky Anderson, presumably still working alongside Dante and Randal at the Quick Stop, which they rebuilt from a store-closing fire at the end of the sequel. Additionally, in a most intriguing callback, Marilyn Ghigliotti will return to reprise her role as Veronica Loughran, who was Dante’s woefully under-appreciated girlfriend in the original movie.

New York Films Head to Park City for Sundance Film Festival

Nineteen films and two pilots that participated in the New York State Film Tax Credit Program will be screened next month at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival. Since 1985, hundreds of films launched at Sundance—one of the world’s largest film festivals—have gained critical recognition, received commercial distribution and reached global audiences eager for fresh perspectives and new voices.   Films that shoot or do post-production work in New York have traditionally been well-represented at Sundance, set for Jan. 18-28 in Park City, Utah. In addition to their Sundance recognition, this year’s crop of New York films also had an impressive economic impact while they were in production and post production, spending an estimated $38 million in New York and creating an estimated 2,448 hires.

New York’s incentive program, designed to strengthen the state’s film production and post-production industries, is one of the main reasons filmmakers choose to film here.   Houston King, producer of Hearts Beat Loud, which will premiere at Sundance, offered an example. "From the inception of Hearts Beat Loud, we wanted to highlight one of our favorite NYC neighborhoods - Red Hook, Brooklyn.  Without New York State’s incentive we very likely would have been forced to shoot the film in another state and changed the location of our story,” King said. “The incentive was key to giving our investors comfort that shooting in NYC was the right thing for their investment and the film."

10, le cose da fare nel percorso 1 o 2 giorni a Verona, One Two Frida

Anche questo luogo ha un fascino speciale, circondata da palazzi Scaligeri uno più bello dell'altro: Palazzo della Ragione (quella della Torre dei Lamberti), Palazzo del Podestà, la Loggia del Consiglio (che in questi giorni, purtroppo, era in fase di ristrutturazione). Le tombe sono gotica e stand di fronte alla chiesa di Santa Maria Antica. Tra di loro Mastino II che, a giudicare dal nome, doveva essere un tipo tosto.

Appena sotto il balcone è l'ingresso al museo che permette di visitare le stanze della casa e soprattutto per guardare fuori sul balcone. Il nostro viaggio inizia da qui, in questa bella piazza fiancheggiata da molti ristoranti e piccoli bar uno accanto all'altro in Liston. una serie di edifici di epoche diverse, uno è il migliore. 2) l'Arena. chi non conosce l'Arena di Verona? L'Arena si trova in Piazza Bra e ci fa tornare alla romana che il famoso su questo sito abbiamo organizzato combattimenti dei gladiatori. "Massimo, Massimo!" Sai?

Dopo aver lasciato l'autostrada, si raggiunge il centro in 5 minuti netti. Nel centro della piazza statua di Dante Ma che risale alla seconda metà del 800, ma in quei giorni si trovava su una bella gigante cuoricione. Non posso resistere, perché ero in Verona solo questo fine settimana e mi è piaciuto molto. Che dire di questo posto, tranne che bisogna vederlo?
