The heart is an essential organ which circulates blood across the body, distributing vitamins and oxygen to the tissues while discarding waste products like carbon dioxide. Any issue with the heart is commonly referred to as suffering heart disease, included heart failure, cardiac ventricular fibrillation and coronary artery disease (CAD). Many of these problems may be controlled by adopting favourable lifestyle choices, and using health care for alleviating them when they arise can help.

Arginine is also known as L-arginine. Arginine is an α-amino acid present in the human body as well as in small quantities in some fruits such as almonds, peanuts, pecans, and walnuts. Arginine performs the synthesis or production of protein in the human body. Arginine is classified as a conditionally essential or semi-essential amino acid. As arginine is a conditional amino acid, it can be produced either internally or through supplements according to the individual’s requirement.
To cater to the demand for conditional amino acids, arginine supplements are recommended as a source. The body of preterm infants is unable to create arginine; hence they require amino acids or arginine. For children, a sufficient amount of arginine is important in the diet to support their growth. Arginine is used to manufacture dietary supplements, medicines, and cosmetic products.
Arginine supplements help cure inflammation and migraine. Arginine helps to enhance immunity power, stimulate the secretion of hormone growth, and promote wound healing and ammonia detoxification, among other functions. Also, the consumption of L-arginine supplements leads to the cure of congestive heart failure problems, arterial occlusion, and to lower blood pressure. Arginine or arginine supplements help in strengthening the immune system and maintaining liver health. By considering the above benefits of arginine, the demand for arginine is expected high in the near future.

Impacts of Yellow Fever Immunization In New York!
The yellow fever virus causes a deadly illness, but it cannot be passed from person to person. However, mosquitoes, especially the Aedes and Haemogogus species, are responsible for spreading the virus.
Parts of Africa, South America's tropics and subtropics, and the Caribbean are particularly hard hit by this illness. But it hardly ever happens to Americans abroad!
This lethal flu-like illness can cause high fever, jaundice, and bleeding. Jaundice causes the patient's skin and eyes to turn yellow, which is why this sickness is known as yellow fever. Other significant symptoms include headache, backache, and chills. If a patient develops serious symptoms, he may experience organ failure and, in extreme cases, death.
Tumblr media
In 2013, the World Health Organization produced a report estimating that there were between 84,000 severe cases of yellow fever worldwide. If the fatalities are estimated to be between 29,000 and 60 000, and over 90% of all cases occur in Africa, there has been a recent epidemic of yellow fever in Brazil, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has issued a level 2 alert to tourists.
In this article, we'll go over the warning signs of yellow fever, how the yellow fever immunization in New York  works, and some preventative measures you may take.
What Are The Symptoms of Yellow Fever?
Yellow fever develops quickly, so if you are infected with the virus, then you might feel mild symptoms in 3 to 6 days after exposure. The initial symptoms of the infection vary from person to person; however, yellow fever has 3 stages mainly:
Stage 1-  After being bitten by an infected mosquito, you will start getting an infection. You may suffer from headaches, muscle aches, fever, loss of appetite, flushing, vomiting, and jaundice. After 3 to 4 days, these symptoms have less impact on you.
Stage 2- If your stage 1 symptoms go away, you can recover from yellow fever. On the other hand, some people’s condition may get worse within 24 hours.
Stage 3- This stage can be fatal for organs. Many problems occur in organs, including the heart, liver, and kidney. Bleeding disorders, seizures, coma, disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC), Salivary gland infection (parotitis), Secondary bacterial infection, or shock are some other severe symptoms you might get. In some cases, complications may result in death too.
How Do Yellow Fever Shots Work?
According to the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention), 30 to 60 percent of patients die due to yellow fever after developing severe symptoms. Although there’s no cure for this disease, taking yellow fever shots in NYC helps to reduce the symptoms and protects people against yellow fever.
Most people are protected for life with a safe and efficient yellow fever vaccine. A single dose of this vaccination weakened the virus's form. This vaccine is given as a painless injection that boosts your immune system's ability to develop antibodies against the virus. However, you may experience modest side effects or responses similar to those seen with other medications or immunizations.
Mild side effects typically begin soon after the yellow fever vaccine injection and can persist for up to 14 days. One in every four people who receive the vaccine suffers from moderate side effects, including fever, muscular aches, and mild joint discomfort. Aside from that, you may have discomfort, redness, or swelling at the injection site.
So, you must monitor your symptoms after receiving the yellow fever vaccine and seek emergency treatment if you develop difficulty breathing, behavioral changes, swelling of the face, tongue, or neck, dizziness, or weakness.
In some cases, many serious side effects occur after the vaccination, including a severe allergic reaction, nervous system reaction, or organ failure, which affects about 1 in 250,000. Within minutes or hours of getting the vaccine, you must consult a doctor immediately if you feel difficulty swallowing, confusion, irritability, cough, rapid heartbeat, severe headache, stiff neck, or throbbing pain in your ear.
Tips To Prevent Yellow Fever -
As there is currently no treatment for yellow fever, New York residents who plan to go to an infected region should consider vaccinating against the disease. Aside from it-
You can use mosquito repellent with DEET.
You must avoid being outside during the times when mosquitoes are active.
Always wear clothes that are treated to repel mosquitoes.
You can use a bed net to prevent mosquitoes from biting.
The Bottom Line!
Yellow fever is a serious disease, and getting yellow fever shots in NYC is essential since some countries will not allow a tourist to enter without a vaccination certificate.
Therefore, if you are looking for a center to get the vaccination, then the Travel Clinic of New York City is the best choice. We specialize in travel health services, including immunizations, vaccines, and other general wellness services, to ensure that you do not have to face difficulties during your vacation due to illness.

Malaria Treatment- Causes, Symptoms and Prevention
Tumblr media
Malaria is one of the most common diseases, especially in Sub-Saharan Africa. It is very important that if you live in or frequently visit areas where this disease is prevalent you learn about it. Thus, you need to know about malaria treatment, causes, symptoms, and prevention. In this post, we will show you all of these and many other pieces of information about malaria. If you are ready, then let’s get straight to it.
What is malaria?
Before discussing malaria treatments, it is imperative that we provide you a definition of malaria. The first thing you need to know about malaria is that it is one of the most life-threatening diseases in the world. Malaria is transmitted when an anopheles mosquito bites a person. This mosquito carries the Plasmodium parasite which is the causative organism of malaria. Immediately the parasite enters a person’s body, it travels into the liver. Here, it matures within a few days and multiplies. After a while, the parasites infiltrate the person’s bloodstream and begin infecting the red blood cells. Between 48 and 72 hours, the parasites multiply in the red blood cells. This multiplication causes these cells to explode. Usually, the infection continues and produces symptoms that last between two and three days at a stretch. Malaria is more predominant in tropical and subtropical regions. This is because the parasite thrives better in this climate. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), there are about 216 million malaria cases in 2016 recorded in about 91 countries. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in the United States reports an estimated 1,700 malaria cases annually. According to the body, most of the individuals that develop the condition do so as a result of visiting areas where it is prevalent.
Causes of Malaria
At this point, you are probably wondering what the causes of malaria are. We will put your curiosity to bed in this section. Simply put, you get malaria when an infected mosquito bites you. The mosquito has to be infected with the Plasmodium parasite for you to get infected with malaria. There are four different types of malaria parasites that infect humans, they include: Plasmodium vivax Plasmodium ovale Plasmodium malariae Plasmodium falciparum The last parasite on the list, Plasmodium falciparum, causes a form of malaria that is more severe than others. It actually puts a person at more risk of death than the others. It is also possible for a mother to transmit malaria to her newborn at birth. This kind of malaria is known as congenital malaria. Since malaria is majorly transmitted through the blood, some of the other ways of transmission include: Organ transplant Use of unsterilized syringes and needles. Blood transfusion.
Symptoms of malaria
For you to know if you are infected by malaria, you need to watch out for malaria symptoms. These symptoms usually make themselves known between 10 days and 4 weeks after infection. In some people, the symptoms may be hidden for several months before becoming obvious. There actually malaria parasites that remain dormant in the body for very long periods. The most common malaria symptoms, most of which you may have experienced include: High fever Headaches Vomiting Nausea Shaking chills Profuse sweating Abdominal pain Anemia Convulsions Diarrhea Muscle pain Bloody stools Coma
Diagnosing malaria
Usually, it is best to allow your doctor to conduct the diagnosis. It is very common these days to see people diagnose themselves and take drugs to cure malaria. This is not advisable and malaria shares certain symptoms with a couple of other diseases. When you visit your doctor, the first thing to be done is by checking your medical history. This will lead to asking several important questions especially if you just traveled to an area prone to malaria. Usually, the doctor will also perform a physical examination to establish the cause of your discomfort. This gives your doctor the opportunity to decipher if you have an enlarged liver or spleen. If there are any malaria symptoms, then you may have to undergo more tests that your doctor will prescribe. These tests usually involve the blood and they will show the following: If you have malaria or not. The type of malaria you are suffering from. What parasite caused your condition and what the parasite is resistant to? If you are suffering from anemia as a result of the infection. If any of your vital organs have been affected by the disease.
Complications of malaria that are life-threatening
We have already told you that malaria can be life-threatening, especially the one caused by P. falciparum. Some of the life-threatening complications that could occur include: Cerebral malaria which is the swelling of the blood vessels of the human brain. The accumulation of fluid inside a person’s lungs. This can lead to pulmonary edema and other breathing problems. Failure of vital organs such as spleen, liver, and kidney. Low blood sugar. Anemia resulting from the destruction of RBCs by the plasmodium parasite.
Malaria treatments
If after you have read thus far and refuse to understand malaria treatments, it will just be a waste of time. It is very important to diagnose and treat malaria when you notice it since it can be life-threatening. In the case of P. falciparum, you need to visit the clinic for your treatment. Usually, the doctor prescribes a specific treatment depending on the kind of malaria that attacks. Sometimes, the prescribed medication doesn’t clear out the infection as a result of the resistance of that parasite to drugs. In this sort of situation, the doctor has to change the medication or use more than one at a go. Again, two of the types of parasites, P. ovale and P. vivax, live part of their cycle in the liver. As a result of this, they hibernate in the body for a very long time, probably months. After a while, they become reactivated and may cause the individual to relapse. If you undergo a test to diagnose the type of malaria and you have any of these, you need special treatment. The doctor will usually prescribe another medication that will help you prevent a relapse.
The long-term outlook for malaria patients
Malaria patients who have received treatment early and judiciously mostly have a great long-term outlook. In some situations, complications arise due to the infection and because of this, the outlook becomes negative. One such complication is cerebral malaria. This can lead to brain damage as a result of the swelling of the blood vessels in the brain. For patients suffering from malaria parasites that are resistant to drugs, the outlook is already poor. This is because the condition will likely end up recurring. By the way, this can lead to other complications.
Preventing malaria
While it is great to discuss malaria symptoms and treatment, it is also important to talk about the prevention of malaria. Currently, there are no vaccines to prevent malaria. This is why you need to speak to your doctor anytime you have to travel to areas that have a record of malaria prevalence. Usually, your doctor will prescribe a few drugs that will help you prevent malaria. Generally, the drugs you will be taking are the same as those taken for the treatment of malaria. It is important that you use these drugs before, during, and even after your trip. If you reside in zones where malaria is prevalent, then you need to speak to your doctor about prevention. The prevention in this should be with a long-term goal in mind. Some of the most common preventive measures include sleeping under mosquito nets and using mosquito repellant creams. Not everyone is sure of the prevalence of malaria in their location. If you fall into this category, ensure you find out from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The body has a map that shows the different parts of the world where malaria is prevalent.
A few facts about malaria you should know
Here are some key facts you should know about malaria that you probably didn’t know before now: In 2016 alone, over 215 million malaria cases were recorded worldwide. In this same year, the World Health Organization reports that about 445,000 people died as a result of malaria infection. Most of these people were young children from Sub-Saharan Africa. This figure seems to have increased even though there has been a significant decrease since the beginning of the 2000s. The decrease was a result of better control measures and more efficient preventive methods. The CDC reports that in the United States alone, about 1,700 individuals suffer from malaria each year. Many of these people are returnees from endemic regions.
Conclusion
In this post, we have discussed malaria treatment, causes, symptoms, and prevention. If you didn’t understand anything or you have any questions, ask them in the comments section. Read the full article

Crocodile Magick and Meaning
Tumblr media
By shirleytwofeathers
The  crocodile family includes the largest of all living reptiles. They live in tropical parts of the world and have an ancient and mixed symbology and mythology associated with both destruction and birth. They are the devourers and mothers.
Keynote: Primal strength and creation
Crocodiles in particular are associated with the Great Mother, for they are excellent mothers, a rarity among reptiles. The appearance of the crocodile indicates the presence of primal strength and creation, the mothering forces.
Although cold-blooded, crocodiles rarely let their body temperatures vary much. They come ashore at sunrise to bask in the sun and then they cool off in the water as the sun becomes hotter. They float low in the water, with little more than eyes and nostrils showing.
When crocodile appears, it heralds a time of balance within all environments within your life. The balance may come unexpectedly, but it will come as a result of your own efforts, strengths, and creativity. It is time to trust your instincts in what will work.
Tumblr media
The Nile crocodile breeds when 5 to 10 years old and the males will fight for breeding territories. The female will dig a huge pit and can lay up to 90 eggs. After four months, the eggs hatch, and the mother crocodile takes the hatchlings in her mouth down to the water, guarding them from other predators.
When the crocodile appears, we should watch over and protect the things we give birth to for at least a four-month period. We may get assistance from others or assist others in some new births.
Our instincts will be very accurate and strong in regards to whom or what we can trust. Our creative energies are fertile now, along with practical applications. This is the time to trust what is right for us, our home, our children, and our endeavours. We have the opportunity to tap very primal creative energies. New birth and initiation are near, as is the strength necessary to accomplish them.
When the young crocodiles begin to develop within the eggs, they begin to speak. The mother hears them, answers them, and helps them to hatch. She then assists them to the water, carrying them in her mouth. If crocodile has appeared, it is time to heed our primal instincts or we may miss the calls of new creative opportunities.
An adult crocodile captures its prey by lying in wait near game trails and water holes. It then comes out of the water, seizing its prey in its powerful jaws, dragging the prey under water, trying to drown it or knocking it out with its whipping tail. The crocodile may even grip the prey’s body in its jaws, rolling over and over beneath the water, tearing into it.
Tumblr media
Questions To Ask If Crocodile Shows Up
Are we ignoring our instincts, our intuition?
Are we missing creative opportunities?
Are we being too emotional about what we have created?
Are we trusting those we shouldn’t?
Are we being too domineering?
Are we unbalanced and too open?
The crocodile may indicate that we are not taking advantage of our opportunities or our impulses. We may also need to be careful of things that are hidden and unexpected, especially in environments that usually nourish us. There may be reason for distrust. If we are not careful, we may be in danger of being dragged into or under in some way.
Tumblr media
The Mythic Crocodile
A dangerous creature with a strange and frightening appearance, wherever the crocodile appears in the world it has a rich set of meanings attached to it.
The creature that is feared is also often revered as a way of appeasing its collective spirit. The Egyptians even honoured the crocodile with its own city, Crocodilopolis, where sacred, tamed crocodiles lived, treated like kings and decked in gold and jewels.
These Egyptians deified the crocodile as a god called Sobek, who had the body of a man and the head of the crocodile. Sobek keenly observed the ritual of the weighing of the souls after death, waiting for the ones that could not explain their actions, at which point he would eat them.
Because the crocodile can stay still for so long before striking very quickly, for some, such as the Chinese and the Cambodians, the crocodile symbolises lightning. In Cambodia the word for the deity that governs the earth and water has the same name as that of the crocodile ~ Nak.
In many myths, the crocodile is one of the sacred creatures that helped create the planet. Because the animal is equally at home in water and on land, it makes sense that it would have been present when the earth was “born” from the sea, a legend that resonates in creation myths all over the world.
Tumblr media
The crocodile, in its guise as the devourer, is synonymous with birth, which cannot happen without death. The significance of this aspect of the crocodile is enacted by the adolescent boys of Liberia as part of a rite of passage. Prior to the ritual circumcision that marks their entry into manhood, the boys are sent out into the forest to fend for themselves. This time in the forest can be as long as four years, during which time the boy is said to have died and been eaten by Poro, the spirit of the Great Crocodile. After a period of “gestion,” Poro spits the boy out, minus his foreskin.
It was once thought that crocodiles could be created by new combinations of matter, instead of by natural birth. The ancient roman historian, Pliny said that the crocodile was the only land animal which lacked the use of its tongue. It was believed to conceive by the ear and bring forth by the mouth.
An old story from Madagascar is that crocodiles and lizards come from the same nest or den by the side of a river. When the eggs are laid and numerous little ones are crawling about, the crocodile comes out of the water and beats the ground with its tail so as to frighten the young ones. Some take to water, and others to land. The ones that go to land never grow any bigger and remain as lizards, but those in the water grow to be crocodiles.
Tumblr media
Crocodile Superstitions
When walking by river, do not let your shadow fall on water, lest a crocodile seize it (soul), and draw you in.
It is widely believed that it is unlucky to kill a crocodile. If you kill a crocodile you will soon die. Seeing a crocodile was considered an evil omen, and in some areas crocodiles were considered as being the embodiment of an evil spirit. Interestingly, it was also believed that a person devoured by a crocodile, went to a place of perpetual happiness.
The liver and entrails of a crocodile are supposed to be most powerful charms, and whoever becomes possessed of them can cause the death of any man he pleases. For that reason, killing a crocodile was a very heinous crime in West Africa.
Tumblr media
Dreaming About Crocodiles
To see a crocodile in your dream foretells a new beginning or changes in your waking life. This dream can also indicate danger in some way. The crocodile within your dream can highlight your intuition, your spiritual insights, and the spiritual steps you need to take in the forthcoming future.
Independence is important to you, and this dream shows it is time to claim it back.
This dream may also indicate that you need to improve or encourage financial security. No matter how well off you are, money just seems to be difficult to obtain. According to 1930’s dream dictionaries, a dream of seeing a crocodile reflects how you feel inside about others.
The crocodile is consistently related to the soul. Spiritually, the dream represents a coming together of power and intelligence. When we are affected by negative energies caused by difficult people, situations or even stalkers the dream normally arises.
If in your dream you are trying to kill or harm the crocodile then this dream is associated with your intelligence.
To dream of shooting a crocodile indicates the need to take intellectual tests – you maybe surprised!
Dreaming of swimming with a crocodile connects us with our necessity for basic emotional, physical and material needs.
To be swimming with more than one crocodile signifies that one may be shafted by hope and faith. As with many other interpretations of reptiles, this dream represents the ultimate feminine wisdom, and indistinct feelings, as well as fertility. The crocodile can be the symbol of the great mother.
Because of its association with religion, the crocodile can mean that negative aspects signify a danger which will shortly come into your life. The crocodile might imply deceit or someone who will cross you! Don’t trust anyone when this symbol appears in a dream.
Tumblr media
If the crocodile chased you in a dream it can suggest your fears in life.
If the crocodile opened the jaw of his mouth in the dream it indicates something is jammed or stuck in waking life.
If the crocodile was deformed, this indicates your performance needs to develop some masculine traits.
Dreams of seeing a crocodile in a zoo or in captivity means that you have access to the particular characteristics which make you unique.
If you visit a jungle and see a crocodile, this dream signifies there is a new beginning on the horizon.
If you dream that the crocodile was tamed, it means that you have acquired influence and lots of power.
If the crocodile is on a lake, and the dream seems beautiful, it means that you will have love in your life.
To be bitten by this animal denotes that you need to make sure you stop worrying, as things will sort themselves out.
A large (massive) crocodile appearing in a dream indicates that you cannot win no matter what happens – unless you kill it.
It denotes possible worries and the failure of a project if you are eaten by a crocodile in the dream.
If a crocodile is eating someone in the dream, it can mean that an untrustworthy person will create problems for you.
If you hunted a crocodile this denotes spiritual acceptance.
For the crocodile to be swimming in a dream is connected to water indicates that you have the emotions and energy to succeed in life.
The crocodile chasing you or hunting you in a dream illustrates that you are going to discover many attributes about yourself on a psychic level. The end result of the dream is equally important. If the crocodile kills or bites you after chasing you then this indicates that you’re going to try to move beyond your comfort zone, it can also signify somebody’s going to be rather deceitful.
To see the crocodile’s teeth in a dream indicates somebody is going to be consulting in the future. Is also connected to our physical attributes of life. The crocodile influences us to think and challenge about how we grow in life. Try to connect with other people in order to think outside the box.
Killing a crocodile in a dream is great luck, it means your worries are over. This is a positive dream. It indicates that you will encounter great luck – beyond your dreams. Killing crocodile can also represent persistent actions in the future. It may be that you’re trying to work towards gaining wealth all you’re looking at clinging to projects that you know will be a success. Rallying for success is also associated with such a dream. If you kill the crocodile in the dream then this can indicate that you are going to be committed to the causes which you believe in life. To kill the crocodile by shooting the animal illustrates that you have the strength and the strong interest in uncovering successful business opportunities.
To kill the crocodile in your dream may also mean that you hold angry feelings inside of you. If you do not kill the crocodile, then this dream may be unfavourable or a warning to be cautious.
If you decide not to attack the animal, then seeing this creature is associated with the capability to survive in difficult situations. You may need to understand social instincts in order to secure your desires. The main negative potential is associated with any type of attack.
Tumblr media
To see baby crocodiles in the dream is associated with our strong interest in protecting our young. If you are a parent it is not uncommon to see baby crocodiles in your dream. It indicates that there is somewhat an immature person who surrounds you in daily life – It could be a child alternatively a partner or family member that needs support. You are very committed to your family you believe in giving and also receiving. Baby crocodiles can also crop up when you feel that you are not necessarily supported by immediate family.
If you see the crocodile open its jaws in a dream, you need to hold yourself responsible. We generally have such a dream when we are reaching higher levels of consciousness, in some dreams the crocodile could bite you and you wake up startled or even in deep fear. The actual details of the dream are equally important.
Where did the crocodile bite you?
If the crocodile bit you on the leg then this indicates that you are going to find blockages in regards to moving forward in a business matter.
If the crocodile bit you on the hand then this is related to work and can indicate some delay or co-workers who are going to be dishonest in the future.
If a crocodile is trying to bite you in the dream then this indicates that you have a desire to meet somebody that is going to treat you right. The crocodile biting you indicates that somebody is going to use you or alternatively give you displeasure. On the long road to happiness we often encounter displeasure. We are deceived by people who are close to us in life. This could indicate a disappointment or alternatively and an attraction towards somebody of the opposite sex.
The size of the crocodile biting you is also equally important. The bigger the crocodile the more important the dream is on a subconscious level. You may capture moments where the crocodile is opening its mouth and snapping at you during the dream. This can indicate snappy attitudes, being annoyed or possibly ostracism.
For a crocodile to run away from you during the dream state indicates you’re going to overcome any sudden change or phases in life. You will need to study but in the end you will succeed. If however, the crocodile itself is chasing you during the dream then you are trying to move away from somebody who is dishonest. Obviously, all the dream details are also equally important to interpret. In any case, to see a crocodile chasing you hunting you down illustrates an incredibly difficult task with somebody who is deceitful.
If the crocodile in your dream is small, perhaps you are feeling guilty about something in waking life. A small crocodile normally appears when you have not forgiven somebody. Forgiveness is always an option in life, if not there when going to be shadowed by bitterness doubt and distressed. A small crocodile indicates a minor problem in life which you can overcome. It can also symbolise betrayal, not only of ourselves but also the people that we care about greatly.
To see a number of crocodiles in a dream illustrates that there are multiple threats in the future. You might be desperate in order to break free from job that does not give you satisfaction. If the crocodiles were circling you in a dream, especially if you are in water in this indicates a feeling of congeniality. To be attacked by multiple crocodiles indicates that you should never give up.

More Crocodile Dream Meanings
In a negative way, the crocodile demonstrates wasted potential. Think of it as a human associated with triggering control issues. The crocodile is true to its nature, and there is an element of trying to work towards goals.
You need good judgement about how to move forward in a work situation. Thinking and planning is important in your life, and you may soon become obsessed with seeking answers to difficult questions, in order to understand a greater awareness and ease your life.
It is important to take any energy released over the next two months and use it to your advantage. There may be some conflict between the masculine attributes and the female ones, but it is important to maintain some kind of balance between the two. This dream is often connected to your feelings. As time passes, you recognise familiar aspects of what this dream means, and it is important to develop your personality coupled with strong sense of family values.
Someone that is in your circle of friends or family is not acting in a correct manner. You will recognise that the person is an enemy, and he or she seeks to trick you into thinking that you are a friend.
To have this dream also means the release of the power in us called Jungian, an archetype known as the ‘Shadow.’ This is a dark power associated with enemies and conspiracies. This shadow casts itself as the heroic victim (martyr) of dark and stupendous forces. The shadow inside us is dangerous.
Have you been having bad thoughts?
Are you struggling to come to terms with a situation?
This dream often signifies a warning. It may also signify that you have been having some worrying times recently. The hidden features of seeing this in your dream is that you are looking to solve a problem in life, you yearn the freedom of expression, you have the strength to challenge anything and the power for success.
It can also suggest that you have the ability to work towards something that will become a success – materially. Crocodiles are associated with a work situation, they are spiritually about gaining satisfaction in life. Compassion and talent are often important in daily life when a crocodile appears in one’s dream. You need to be somewhat passionate in life.
Tumblr media
The crocodile tends to be decisive in eating its prey and is connected to the way we gain promotion at work. Remember that you need to fight in order to win.
Every dream can be connected to our own reality. If, in a dream we find ourselves seeing a crocodile, there are many different lessons that we can learn. There are two key dream states that we can encounter, lucid dreaming and prophetic. If you had a dream of a crocodile and you feel that you’ve taken an active involvement in the dream, even influenced a dream in some way it indicates that you have the opportunity to manage a deceitful person in the waking life.
The omen of the crocodile dream suggests dishonesty and deceit, as well as the inner ability to overcome any obstacles. It is important to try to use your unconsciousness mind to understand the real problems in waking life. To see a crocodile in a dream and yourself as the third person, or to view the event as if it is on television indicates that you have the hidden intuition to look beyond people’s personality.
The crocodile is associated with storing your own power and energy, in the case where you see a crocodile chasing you during a dream, this denotes that your goals will be achieved, moreover this dream is more than just an illusion it is a specific call to action in waking life. If you are successfully able to perform actions in the dream to change the event of the dream then seen a crocodile can be an emotionally powerful experience.

Old Fashioned Crocodile Cures:
Epilepsy: Caelius Aurelianus prescribed crocodile’s dung against epilepsy.
Eye problems: Crocodile blood.
Eye sickness (ositananana): Crocodile skin is used for eye-sickness. Piece of skin is burned and at the same time another piece is put in water, patient inhales smoke from burned skin. Ashes then are put in water and liquid ribbed into patient’s eyes.
Hair growth: Rubbing crocodile dung on the head will make hair grow.
Quartan fever: Democritus also states that a quartan fever is effectually cured by attaching a crocodile’s heart to the body with the wool of a black sheep without a speck of any other colour, due care being taken that the sheep was the first lamb weaned by the dam.
Scorpion’s antidote: Crocodile (!?!)
Snake bite: Pulverised crocodile teeth used for snake bite. Also crocodile blood.
Teeth and teething: If a child wears a crocodile’s tooth around its neck. This helps the teeth to come through, and guarantees their being strong.
Whooping cough: In Malabar, a bone of a crocodile was suspended about the neck to cure whooping cough. Wounds: Fried crocodile meat can be used to dress wounds.

Crocodile Tears
The image of the crocodile as a dishonest trickster is expressed perfectly in the notion of “crocodile tears,” the hypocritical tears that the crocodile is said to shed for its victims.
“Crocodile tears” has become proverbial in speaking of people who cry without feeling any pain, or who feign tears. This comes from old stories that portray the crocodile as the most deceitful of animals. It will treacherously weep over a man’s head when it has devoured the body, and then will eat up the head too.
It is also said these tears turn to jewels to lure further human prey. This belief goes one step further with the idea that crocodiles moan and sigh like persons in distress, to allure travellers and make them their prey.
Butterflies have been known to drink crocodile tears. Scientists think it’s because the tears contain salt and other minerals.

The Kachikally Sacred Crocodile Pool
I found this really fun article about witches, crocodiles, and fertility rituals on a travel site, and had to share it here. Billed as the world’s most dangerous tourist attraction, the concept is that stroking a crocodile makes a person extremely fertile. Here’s the article:
According to one version of the local legend, the story of the Kachikally Sacred Crocodile Pool involves a cunning — but good natured — witch.
One day the witch was apparently crying by a well when a stranger came along. Claiming that her children had fallen down, she asked the man to help. The man climbed down to find them, searched hard but saw no trace.
He regretfully told the bawling lady this, to which she replied that she hadn’t lost her children after all. She was just testing to see whether the man had a good heart. As a reward, she gifted him the supposedly magical waters of the pool. Anyone who bathed in them would become fertile and as proof they were magical, she would fill it with crocodiles that would never bite anyone.
Well that’s alright then. Perfectly safe.
Meet Charley:
Try telling yourself “it’s perfectly safe” as the scruffy-looking guide by the poolside hut leads you over to Charley. Charley is a two-metre-long Nile crocodile and he is probably not a vegetarian. It seems rather difficult to believe that he is placid enough to enjoy being constantly manhandled by a stream of petrified tourists, but the guide insists that Charley has never attacked anyone.
The Steve Irwin moment
For those stupid enough to believe him, the Steve Irwin moment follows: a ginger walk-up to Charlie. The guide puts his hands on the lazy croc’s back and encourages you to do the same. The feel is rather harder than expected, but that’s probably not your major concern. Especially when he encourages you to start lifting Charley’s back legs.
Surely he’s not going to stand for this sort of manhandling much longer? He’ll turn round one of these days and just lash out at the nearest person. And when the guide surreptitiously buggers off, that nearest person will be you. All alone with a big croc, caressing his back like a grinning imbecile.
Don’t Touch This Crocodiles:
In truth, the scariest part isn’t touching Charley himself — it’s his not-so-little friends around him. There are well over 100 of them in and around the pool. It’s a fluorescent green colour, so it’s not possible to see into the water for the crocs that could leap out at any moment.
More worrying are the ones lounging around on the banks in very close proximity to Charley. There’s no fence and surely they aren’t all friendly? Indeed, one has a (somewhat ungrammatical) sign by it saying:
Don’t Touch This Crocodiles.
All praise the witch:
Thankfully, the witch’s magic spell appears to work. Thousands of people visit the Kachikally Sacred Crocodile Pool every year — the tourists to stroke Charley and the locals to become extra-fertile.
Given that no-one has been attacked and many people have become pregnant soon after splashing themselves with the water, there may be something in the superstition after all.

Crocodile vs Alligator
Many people are unaware that there’s a difference between alligators and crocodiles and use both terms interchangeably to describe any large water-dwelling lizard with big teeth. What they don’t realise is that, despite some similarities, the two reptiles don’t look or behave the same. They also belong to different biological families.
8 ways to tell alligators and crocodiles apart:
Shape of the snout. The crocodile’s snout is pointed and V-shaped, and the alligator’s is wide and U-shaped.
Location. Alligators are only found in parts of the US and China, whereas crocodiles can be found across the world.
Habitat. Crocodiles prefer water that is more saline or salty than the alligator’s preferred freshwater habitat.
Toothy grin. Crocodiles can’t hide their teeth, but alligators’ teeth are sometimes hidden when their mouths are closed.
Size. A full-grown crocodile will likely be several feet longer than an adult alligator.
Colour. Crocodiles are generally lighter in colour than alligators.
Speed. On land and in water, crocodiles are usually slower than alligators.
Behaviour. In terms of aggression, an alligator might seem tame compared to a crocodile.
Once you understand the differences, it is actually pretty easy to tell them apart.

An important new study about global nutrition was published this week that deserves everyone’s full attention: "Food in the Anthropocene: the EAT-Lancet Commission on healthy diets from sustainable food systems." [Don’t let the pretentious title intimidate you: you need to know what’s inside.] This paper was commissioned and published by The Lancet—one of the world’s oldest and most respected medical journals—and penned by an international group of 37 scientists led by Dr. Walter Willett of Harvard University.
The product of three years of deliberation, this 47-page document envisions a “Great Food Transformation” which seeks to achieve an environmentally sustainable and optimally healthy diet for the world’s people by 2050. Its core recommendation is to minimize consumption of animal foods as much as possible, and replace them with whole grains, legumes and nuts:
Tumblr media
Source: EAT-Lancet Commission report We all want to be healthy, and we need a sustainable way to feed ourselves without destroying our environment. The well-being of our planet and its people are clearly in jeopardy, therefore clear, science-based, responsible guidance about how we should move forward together is most welcome.
Unfortunately, we are going to have to look elsewhere for solutions, because the report fails to provide us with the clarity, transparency and responsible representation of the facts we need to place our trust in its authors. Instead, the Commission’s arguments are vague, inconsistent, unscientific, and downplay the serious risks to life and health posed by vegan diets.
1. Nutrition epidemiology = mythology
The vast majority of human nutrition research—including the lion share of the research cited in the EAT-Lancet report— is conducted using the tragically flawed methodology of nutrition epidemiology. Nutrition epidemiology studies are not scientific experiments; they are wildly inaccurate, questionnaire-based guesses (hypotheses) about the possible connections between foods and diseases. This approach has been widely criticized as scientifically invalid [see here and here], yet continues to be used by influential researchers at prestigious institutions, most notably Dr. Walter Willett. An epidemiologist himself, he wrote an authoritative textbook on the subject and has conducted countless such studies, including a recent, widely-publicized paper tying low-carbohydrate diets to early death. In my reaction to that study, I explain in plain English why epidemiological techniques are so untrustworthy, and include a sample from an actual food questionnaire for your amusement.
Even if you think epidemiological methods are sound, at best they can only generate hypotheses that then need to be tested in clinical trials. Instead, these hypotheses are often prematurely trumpeted to the public as implicit fact in the form of media headlines, dietary guidelines, and well-placed commission reports like this one. Tragically, more than 80% of these guesses are later proved wrong in clinical trials. With a failure rate this high, nutrition epidemiologists would be better off flipping a coin to decide which foods cause human disease. The Commission relies heavily on this methodology, which helps to explain why their recommendations often fly in the face of biological reality.
2. Red meat causes heart disease, diabetes, cancer...and spontaneous combustion
The section of the report dedicated to protein blames red meat for heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes, obesity, cancer and early death. It contains 16 references, and every single one is an epidemiological study. The World Health Organization report tying red meat to colon cancer was also mentioned, and that report is almost entirely based on epidemiology as well. [Read my full analysis of the WHO report here]. The truth is that there is no human clinical trial evidence tying red meat to any health problem. I certainly haven’t found any—and if there were, I think this Commission surely would have mentioned it.
Yet even in this “red meat is an apocalypse on a plate” section, meat’s virtues peek through:
[In sub-Saharan Africa] “...growing children often do not obtain adequate quantities of nutrients from plant source foods alone…promotion of animal source foods for children, including livestock products, can improve dietary quality, micronutrient intake, nutrient status, and overall health.” [page 10]
3. Protein is essential…but cancerous
The commissioners write:
“Protein quality (defined by effect on growth rate) reflects the amino acid composition of the food source, and animal sources of protein are of higher quality than most plant sources. High-quality protein is particularly important for growth of infants and young children, and possibly in older people losing muscle mass in later life.” [page 8]
Translation: Complete proteins are good because they contain every essential amino acid. All animal proteins are naturally complete, whereas most plant proteins are incomplete. Watch how the authors wriggle their way out of this inconvenient truth in the next sentence:
“However, a mix of amino acids that maximally stimulate cell replication and growth might not be optimal throughout most of adult life because rapid cell replication can increase cancer risk.” [page 8]
Translation: Complete proteins are bad because they cause cancer.
The sole reference for this absurd suggestion that complete proteins cause cancer is a paper about mutations causing cancer in which the terms “protein,” “amino acid,” and “meat” each occur a grand total of zero times, suggesting that the Commission’s suggestion is pure...suggestion. Furthermore, if obtaining all of the essential amino acids we need causes cancer, shouldn't we also worry about complete proteins from plant sources like tofu or beans with rice?
4. Omega-3s are essential...good luck with that
“Fish has a high content of omega-3 fatty acids, which have many essential roles…Plant sources of alpha-linolenic acid [ALA] can provide an alternative to omega-3 fatty acids, but the quantity required is not clear.” [page 11]
If the Commission doesn’t know how much plant ALA a person needs to consume to meet requirements, then how does it know that plants provide a viable alternative to omega-3s from animal sources?
The elephant in the room here is that all omega-3s are not created equal. Only animal foods (and algae, which is neither a plant nor an animal) contain the forms of omega-3s our bodies use: EPA and DHA. Plants only contain ALA, which is extremely difficult for our cells to convert into EPA and DHA. According to this 2018 review, we transform anywhere between 0% and 9% of the ALA we consume into the DHA our cells require.
Instead of being vague, why not responsibly warn people that trying to obtain omega-3 fatty acids from plants alone may place their health at risk?
“About 28 g/day (1 ounce) of fish can provide essential omega-3 fatty acids…therefore we have used this intake for the reference diet. We also suggest a range of 0 – 100 g/day because high intakes are associated with excellent health.” [page 11]
Wait…if it takes 28 grams to meet your daily requirement for omega-3s AND high intakes are associated with excellent health, why allow the range to begin at ZERO grams per day? If the Commission doesn’t feel comfortable recommending fish, it should at least recommend algae-sourced omega-3 supplements.
5. Vitamins and minerals are essential…so take supplements
The drumbeat heard throughout the report is that animal foods are dangerous and that a vegan diet is the holy grail of health, yet EAT-Lancet commissioners repeatedly find themselves in the awkward position of having to acknowledge the nutritional superiority of the very animal foods they recommend avoiding:
"Although inclusion of some animal source foods in maternal diets is widely considered important for optimal fetal growth and increased iron requirement, especially during the third trimester of pregnancy, evidence suggests that balanced vegetarian diets can support healthy fetal development, with the caveat that strict vegan diets require supplements of vitamin B12." [page 13]
“Adolescent girls are at risk of iron deficiency because of rapid growth combined with menstrual losses. Menstrual losses have sometimes been a rationale for increased consumption of red meat, but multivitamin or multimineral preparation provide an alternative that is less expensive and without the adverse consequences of high red meat intake.” [page 13]
If the commissioners are concerned that red meat is dangerous (which is only true on Planet Epidemiology), why not recommend other naturally iron-rich animal foods such as duck, oysters, or chicken liver for these growing young women, as these foods would also provide the complete proteins needed for growth? What about the 10-22% of non-teen reproductive age women in the U.S. who suffer from iron deficiency? And why a “multimineral preparation” rather than a simple iron supplement? Are they implying that other minerals may be lacking in their plant-based diet?
In changing to the EAT-Lancet diet, the Commission claims:
“The adequacy of most micronutrients increases, including several essential ones, such as iron, zinc, folate, and vitamin A, as well as calcium intake in low-income countries. The only exception is vitamin B12 that is low in animal-based diets [I believe this was an error on their part, since B12 is only found in animal foods.] Supplementation or fortification with vitamin B12 (and possibly with riboflavin [vitamin B2]) might be necessary in some circumstances.” [page 14]
Unfortunately, the nutritional inadequacy of plant-based diets goes beyond B vitamins. Plant foods lack several key nutrients, and some of the nutrients they do contain come in less bioavailable forms. Furthermore, many plant foods contain “anti-nutrients” that interfere with nutrient absorption. This means that just because a plant food contains a nutrient doesn’t mean we can access it.
An important example is that grains, beans, nuts and seeds—the staple foods of plant-based diets—contain phytate, a mineral magnet which substantially interferes with absorption of essential minerals like zinc, calcium, iron, and magnesium. And thanks to oxalates—mineral-binding compounds found in a wide variety of plant foods—virtually none of the iron in spinach makes it into Popeye’s muscles.
Only animal foods contain every nutrient we need in its proper, most accessible form. To learn more about nutrient availability and how it affects brain health, read this article.
6. Making up numbers is fun and easy
How did the commissioners arrive at the recommended quantities of foods we should eat per day…7 grams of this, 31 grams of that? Numbers like these imply that something’s been precisely measured, but in many cases, it’s plain that they simply pulled a number out of thin air:
“Since consumption of poultry has been associated with better health outcomes than has red meat, we have concluded that the optimum consumption of poultry is 0 g/day to about 58 g/day and have used a midpoint of 29 g/day for the reference.” [page 10]
Nowhere do they say that poultry is associated with any negative health outcomes, so why limit it to a maximum of 58 grams (2 ounces) per day?
The commissioners attempt to defend themselves from criticism on this issue by stating:
“We have a high level of scientific certainty about the overall direction and magnitude of associations described in this Commission, although considerable uncertainty exists around detailed quantifications.” [page 7]
If they are this uncertain about the details, how can they in good conscienceprescribe such specific quantities of food? Why not say they don’t know? Most people will not read this report—they will interpret the values in this table as medical advice.
7. Epidemiology is gospel…unless we don’t like the results
Any researcher will tell you that clinical trials—actual scientific experiments—are considered a much higher level of evidence than epidemiological studies, yet Willett’s group not only relies heavily on epidemiological studies, it favors them over clinical trials when it suits their agenda:
“in large prospective [epidemiological] studies, high consumption of eggs, up to one a day, has not been associated with increased risk of heart disease, except in people with diabetes. “However, in low-income countries, replacing calories from a staple starchy food with an egg can substantially improve the nutritional quality of a child’s diet and reduce stunting. [randomized clinical trial]
“We have used an intake of eggs at about 13 g/day, or about 1.5 eggs per week, for the reference diet, but higher intake might be beneficial for low-income populations with poor dietary quality.” [page 11]
Why recommend only 1.5 eggs per week when epidemiological studies found that 1 egg per day was perfectly fine? And why skew your recommendations against low-income people, which make up a significant portion of the global population?
There is a remarkable paragraph on page 9 (too long to quote here) arguing that red meat was found to increase risk of death in epidemiological studies conducted in Europe and the USA, but not in Asia, where red meat (mainly pork) was associated with a decreased risk of death. Rather than grappling with this seeming contradiction, they simply dismiss the Asian findings as invalid, wondering if perhaps Asian countries haven’t been rich long enough for the risk to show up yet.
Wait, what?
8. Everyone should eat a vegan diet, except for most people
Although their diet plan is intended for all “generally healthy individuals aged two years and older,” the authors admit it falls short of providing proper nutrition for growing children, adolescent girls, pregnant women, aging adults, the malnourished, and the impoverished—and that even those not within these special categories will need to take supplements to meet their basic requirements.
Sadder still is the fact that the majority of people in this country and in many other countries around the world are no longer metabolically healthy, and this high-carbohydrate plan doesn’t take them into consideration.
"In controlled feeding studies, high carbohydrate intake increases blood triglyceride concentrations, reduces HDL [aka “good”] cholesterol concentration, and increases blood pressure, especially in people with insulin resistance.” [page 12]
For those of us with insulin resistance (aka “pre-diabetes”) whose insulin levels tend to run too high, the Commission’s high-carbohydrate diet—based on up to 60% of calories from whole grains, in addition to fruits and starchy vegetables—is potentially dangerous. The Commission half-acknowledges this by recommending that even healthy people limit consumption of starchy roots like potatoes and cassava flour due to their high glycemic index, but oddly does not mention grain and legume flours, or high glycemic index fruits, leaving the door open for processed food companies to market products like pasta, cereal and juice beverages to its plant-based planet. High insulin levels strongly increase risk for numerous chronic diseases and can mean a lifetime of medications, disability and early death. If the Commission read its own report it would find support for the notion that those of us with metabolic damage could be better off increasing our meat intake and decreasing our carbohydrate intake:
“In a large controlled feeding trial, replacing carbohydrate isocalorically with protein reduced blood pressure and blood lipid concentrations.” [page 8]
This was the 2005 OmniHeart trial, which used 50% plant protein and 50% animal protein. It would seem the only people who should eat a vegan diet are people who make the informed choice to eat a vegan diet, despite the risks.
9. Pay no attention to the money behind the curtain
As an advocate of meat-inclusive diets, I have often been assumed to have financial ties to the meat industry (which I do not), but how many people stop to question the financial (and professional) incentives that may influence doctors promoting plant-based diets? We all have personal beliefs and we all need to make a living, but honesty with oneself and transparency with the public should be paramount. The Nutrition Coalition has compiled a list of Dr. Willett's potential conflicts of interest here.
The EAT Foundation, which collaborated with The Lancet  to produce this report, was founded by Norwegian billionaire and animal rights activist Gunhild Stordalen. EAT recently helped to launch "FReSH" (Food Reform for Sustainability and Health), a global partnership of about 40 corporations, including Barilla (pasta), Unilever (meat alternatives and vegetable oils), Kellogg's (cereals) and Pepsico (sugary beverages). Make of this what you will.
  10. No to choices, yes to taxes?
How does EAT-Lancet propose to achieve its dream of a plant-based world? Many suggestions are put forth, but two are worth emphasizing: the elimination or restriction of consumer choices, and taxation. The EAT Foundation describes itself as:
"a non-profit startup dedicated to transforming our global food system through sound science, impatient disruption and novel partnerships.”
Sound science? Clearly not. But impatient disruption—what does that mean?
Regardless of how you feel about taxation as a tool for social change, consider the Commission’s own numerous exceptions to the plant-based rules, including pregnant women, children, the malnourished and the impoverished. Should we really support making animal foods—the only nutritionally complete foods on the planet—even more expensive for vulnerable populations? The notion of taxation is followed by a vague reference to the possibility of “cash transfer” social safety nets for women and children. This section of the report is representative of its overall elitist and paternalistic tone.
I believe, because I’m convinced by the science, that animal foods are essential to optimal human health. This is an uncomfortable biological reality we all have to wrestle with as creatures of conscience. Finding ways to support excellent health and quality of life for the creatures we depend on for our sustenance and vitality is one of our most important callings as caring stewards of our planet and all of its inhabitants. But I’m also a firm believer in personal choice. We each need to become experts in what works best for our own bodies. Eat and let eat, I say. It seems clear that EAT-Lancet commissioners are neither supporters of personal choice nor the transparent distribution of accurate nutrition information that would empower people to weigh the risks and benefits of various diets for themselves.
Challenge Authority
The EAT-Lancet report has the feel of a royal decree, operating under the guise of good intentions, seeking to impose its benevolent will on all subjects of planet Earth. It is well worth challenging the presumed authority of this group of 37 “experts,” because it wields tremendous power and influence, has access to billions of dollars, and is likely to affect your choices, your health, and your checkbook in the near future.
Capitalizing on our current public health and environmental crises, the EAT-Lancet Commission pronounces itself as the authority on the science of nutrition, exploits our worst fears, and seeks to dictate our food choices in accordance with its members' personal, professional and possible commercial interests.
To the best of my knowledge, there has never been a human clinical trial designed to test the health effects of simply removing animal foods from the diet, without making any other diet or lifestyle changes such as eliminating refined carbohydrates and other processed foods. Unless and until such research is conducted demonstrating clear benefits to this strategy, the assertion that human beings would be healthier without animal foods remains an untested hypothesis with clear risks to human life and health. Prescribing plant-based diets to the planet without including straightforward warnings of these risks and offering clear guidance as to how to minimize them is scientifically irresponsible and medically unethical, and therefore should not form the basis of public health recommendations. Organ Preservation Market Value to Cross $ 455 Mn in 2032
According to a new analysis from FMI, the Organ Preservation Market is likely to reach US$ 455 Million in revenue by 2032, from US$ 230 Million in 2021, registering a strong 6.4% CAGR during the forecast period.
The rising incidence of chronic illnesses has a direct impact on the adoption of organ preservation, according to the findings of this study. The practice of conserving healthy organs removed from donors’ bodies is known as organ preservation. Organs are removed from the donor’s body, stored for transit, and then transplanted into the recipient’s body without causing major damage. Donor organ quality is strongly influenced by organ preservation for transplantation, which has a direct impact on a patient’s morbidity and survival rates following transplantation. One of the important reasons driving the organ preservation solutions market growth is the rising incidence of chronic illnesses, as well as the growing elderly population throughout the world.
Static cold storage organ preservation treatments are becoming more common as a result of the rising number of organ failures caused by diabetes, cardiovascular illnesses (CVDs), obesity, and other serious medical problems. Innovative and sophisticated strategies for organ preservation, such as NMP, are working as a growth-inducing agent.
Such strategies help to reduce the risk of reperfusion damage following transplantation and enhance static cold storage organ preservation results in clinical and experimental research. Thalassemia Treatment in India at Low Cost
Thalassemia is an inherited blood disease caused by defective hemoglobin production, which causes an insufficient supply of oxygen by red blood cells. This results in anemia, which causes symptoms such as tiredness, weakness, and pale skin. This condition affects approximately 4.4 out of every 10,000 live births worldwide, with prevalence in countries like Iraq, Uzbekistan, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Nigeria, and Liberia. Thalassemia's global prevalence emphasizes its importance as a public health issue, particularly in areas with high rates of consanguineous marriage.
Types of Thalassemia
Alpha-thalassemia: It is caused by irregularities in the alpha-globin genes and can range from silent carriers to severe cases such as Alpha-Thalassemia Major.
Beta-thalassemia: It is caused by mutations in the beta-globin genes and is classified into three types: minor, intermediate, and major.
Delta-Beta Thalassemia: An uncommon subtype that affects the delta- and beta-globin genes.
Epsilon-Gamma-Delta-Beta Thalassemia: Another rare form that affects many globin genes.
Thalassemia Treatment Options
Blood transfusions: These are essential for improving healthy red blood cells.
Iron Chelation Therapy: It treats excess iron levels after transfusions.
Folic acid supplements: They promote red blood cell formation.
Bone Marrow or Stem Cell Transplant: It is used for severe situations to replace damaged blood cells.
Luspatercept: It is a new medicine that promotes red blood cell production.
Hormone therapy, vaccinations, antibiotics, thyroid hormone replacement, and bisphosphonates: These are adjunctive medicines that address specific problems.
Cost of Thalassemia Treatment in India
Thalassemia treatment in India is known for its low cost, which attracts patients from all over the world. The cost varies with the type of treatment required. Blood transfusions are required to manage thalassemia and generally cost approximately $150 each session. On the other hand, bone marrow transplants, a more advanced treatment reserved for serious conditions, can cost between $16,000 and $48,000, depending on the kind of transplant and hospital chosen.
Untreated thalassemia can cause heart failure, liver difficulties, infections, and a shorter life expectancy. Thalassemia, while difficult to treat, may be efficiently controlled with the correct medication. India's modern medical infrastructure, competent staff, and affordable care make it a perfect location for anyone seeking comprehensive thalassemia treatment. Patients with thalassemia can manage the disease with determination and hope for a better quality of life because of early diagnosis, personalized medications, and continued care.
Thalassemia treatment in India combines cost, experience, and modern technologies, making it a popular choice for patients worldwide. With top hospitals, renowned doctors, and wide-ranging therapy choices, those suffering from thalassemia may get the support and care they need to handle this difficult illness.

about Lucius Cornelius Sulla
Tumblr media
Basic Information:
Name: Lucius Cornelius Sulla Felix
Born: 138 BCE Rome, Italy
Death: 78-79 BCE Pozzuoli, Italy
What is he famous for?
Sulla was victorious in the first Roman civil war (88 -82 BCE) and was named dictator ( 82- 79 BCE) carried out notable constitutional reforms in an attempt to strengthen the Roman Republic during the last century of its existence. He was also one of the greatest Roman generals to ever live and paved the way for the likes of Julius Caesar and Augustus
Life:
Sulla was born into a old but unimportant patrician family and showed a keen interest in politics. With his military success under Gaius Marius and a lucky inheritance he quickly rose up the political ladder. His first major success was under Gaius Marius as his Quaestor in the African war against King Juguthra. His masterful capture of the King sparked a lifelong feud with gains Marius.
Once he returned to Rome he was elected every year from After a series of well-placed bribes, Sulla would continue his climb on the political ladder by securing the position of praetor urbanus in 97 BCE and later proconsul to Cilicia where he would remain until 92 BCE.
Sulla would rise further to prominence during the Social War ( 91 - 88 BCE) by his known ruthlessness in battle he was present at the siege of Pompeii and was given the title of Rome’s first General. Having served with distinction, Sulla was rewarded with his first consulship in 88 BCE, serving with his future son-in-law Pompeius Rufus as his co-consul.
Sulla’s luck was about to turn however, In the east Mithridates Eupator of Pontus was causing problems. In 104 BCE he had invaded the provinces of Galatia and Paphlagonia. After an invasion of nearby Bithynia, he withdrew when issued a warning by the Roman Senate. However, he soon disregarded the warning and attacked the three Roman legions sent against him; he had all Italian residents’ property confiscated and ordered the locals to kill all Italians. Sulla was originally given the command of the Roman forces to fight Mithridates , when Tribune  Publius Sulpicius Rufus revoked his command bringing the 70 year old Gaius Marius out of retirement and had him take command instead.
This deeply upset Sulla, who has the loyalty of the legions ( amounting to 30,000 men) He  seized command and unsuspectingly marched into Rome.
He intended to kill Rufus ( he was found hiding in his villa) and Gaius Marius fearing his life fled with his wife to Africa. However Most of Sulla’s men including his Quaestor deserted him.
Sulla consolidated his position, declared Marius and his allies hostes (enemies of the state), and addressed the Senate in harsh tones, portraying himself as a victim, presumably to justify his violent entrance into the city. After restructuring the city's politics and strengthening the Senate's power, Sulla returned to his camp and proceeded with the original plan of fighting Mithridates in Pontus.
By 87 BCE Marius had returned to Rome with the support of Lucius Cornelius Cinna and, in Sulla's absence, took control of the city. Marius declared Sulla's reforms and laws invalid and officially exiled Sulla. Marius and Cinna were elected consuls for the year 86 BC. He was exiled until 82 BCE where he planned another march on Rome with three Legions and the support of those opposed to the current regime behind him. What Ensured was a bloody civil war which ended with the victory of Colline Gate in the northern environs of Rome and the fall of Praeneste at the end of 82 Sulla was named dictator of Rome under the Lex Valeria (Valerian law), which vested constituent, legislative, military, and judicial power in him.
During his reign as Dictator he started the extensive program of constitutional reform he intended mainly to reestablish the supremacy of the Senate in the Roman state, and his administrative reforms did indeed survive to the end of the republic. Of value were the increase of the number of courts for criminal trials; a new treason law, Lex Cornelia Majestatis, designed to prevent insurrection by provincial governors. At the beginning of 79, Sulla resigned and withdrew to the neighbourhood of Puteoli in Campania. This action caused a sensation in Rome.
Sulla's goal now was to write his memoirs, which he finished in 78 BC, just before his death. They are now largely lost, although fragments from them exist as quotations in later writers. Ancient accounts of Sulla's death indicate that he died from liver failure or a ruptured gastric ulcer (symptomised by a sudden haemorrhage from his mouth followed by a fever from which he never recovered) possibly caused by chronic alcohol abuse.
Fun Facts:
• He saw Julius Ceaser as a threat and almost had him executed
• He was the first to revive the title of Dictator since the second Punic Wars
• By the time of his birth his family had fallen into poverty so he spent his childhood around musicians and artists
• He was intelligent and well educated
• he was fluent in Ancient Greek
• His public funeral in Rome (in the Forum, in the presence of the whole city) was on a scale unmatched until that of Augustus in AD 14.
• Although he was named dictator of Rome for life he retired after two years

Is High Cholesterol Genetic?
New Post has been published on https://depression-md.com/is-high-cholesterol-genetic/
Is High Cholesterol Genetic?
Tumblr media
There are many causes of high cholesterol—everything from diet, activity levels, and medications—but among the more concerning of these is genetics. Approximately one in 250 people have an inherited form of this condition called familial hypercholesterolemia (FH), meaning they’re genetically predisposed to develop unhealthy high levels.
FH specifically refers to excessively elevated levels of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) or “bad” cholesterol due to a genetic mutation, and what’s alarming is that it’s associated with earlier onset of coronary artery disease (CAD), increasing the risk of heart attack and stroke. Making this issue even more critical, only about 10% to 20% of those with the condition know they have it.
It’s important to have a sense of what FH is, how it presents, and how it can be managed.
x-reflexnaja / Getty Images
What Is Familial Hypercholesterolemia?
As mentioned, FH arises due to an inherited mutation of a specific gene; this hinders the body’s ability to manufacture receptors to clear LDL from your blood. There are actually two types of FH, depending on whether the genetic abnormality was inherited from one or both parents. Here’s a quick breakdown:
Heterozygous FH: This more common type of FH occurs when one parent carries the faulty gene, and the other doesn’t. In these cases, people display high LDL from birth on, with levels climbing to especially dangerous levels in adults.
Homozygous FH: When both parents carry the faulty gene, this type of FH arises. It causes even more severe LDL levels from birth on, as no LDL receptors are present. As such, homozygous FH is associated with significantly earlier onset of serious heart problems and other issues.
If high cholesterol runs in your family, you should have your levels checked more regularly.
Causes of High Cholesterol
In addition to genetics, high cholesterol arises due to several factors:
Diet: Certain foods, especially those high in trans and saturated fats (as in fatty meats, dairy, and processed foods), elevate cholesterol levels.
Level of activity: Those who do not get enough exercise or physical activity are at risk for high cholesterol.
Weight status: Being overweight (a body mass index (BMI) of 25 to 29.9) or obese (BMI greater than 30) are significant risk factors for high cholesterol.
Lifestyle factors: Smoking tobacco and consuming alcohol are directly linked with higher levels of cholesterol.
Medications: Certain medications, including certain steroids, antiviral medications, beta-blockers, immunosuppressants, and diuretics, among others, can cause levels to rise.
Other diseases: Higher cholesterol can also be caused by other diseases or health conditions, including chronic kidney disease, human immunodeficiency virus (HIV/AIDS), hepatitis C, and pregnancy, among others.
Signs and Symptoms
So how can you tell if you have high cholesterol? And how can you tell if high levels are due to FH? A big issue, unfortunately, is that you often can’t without testing. High cholesterol is often asymptomatic, which is a major reason why it often goes undetected. Over time, it can lead to restrictions or blockages of coronary and other arteries in the body, respectively. This can lead to:
Angina (chest pains or discomfort)
Fatigue,
Irregular heartbeat
Shortness of breath
Cramping or pain in the limbs, especially when walking
Slurred speech
Drooping on one side of the face
Weakness or numbness in the limbs
There are also a couple symptoms of high cholesterol that are particularly associated with FH:
Xanthoma: Excess levels of LDL cholesterol can cause nodules to form in clusters around the hands, elbows, feet, and other parts of the body. In children and infants particularly, these are signs of FH.
Achilles tendon xanthoma: When a xanthoma develops in the Achilles tendon on the back of the foot, it can cause serious damage. Tendonitis, an inflammation of the tendon, as well as rupture can occur.
Corneal arcus: Cholesterol deposits can also form around the cornea, the transparent portion that covers the front of the eye. This causes gray, white, or yellowish rings to form around both corneas.
Complications
The real danger of FH is that it can lead to a host of very serious conditions. When you have high cholesterol—especially high levels of LDL—a plaque can form in the arteries. Over time, this build-up causes them to narrow, harden, and stiffen—a condition called atherosclerosis. This reduces blood flow, which can cause:
Heart attack: If FH is untreated, the risk of fatal or nonfatal heart attack rises 50% in men younger than 50, and 30% in women under 60. This dangerous condition is often the result of coronary artery disease (CAD).
Heart disease: Aside from CAD, heart failure can also occur, which is when insufficient amounts of blood reach the rest of the body. In addition, arrhythmia—irregular heartbeat—can occur.
Stroke: Interruptions in blood flow to the brain associated with high cholesterol greatly increase the chance of developing a stroke, in which clots cause brain cells to die. This potentially fatal condition severely impacts neurological function.
Peripheral vascular diseases: Interrupted blood flow in the limbs causes peripheral artery disease (PAD), leading to numbing, cramping, and pain when walking. These conditions can also affect skin and tissues in the limbs to heal.
Causes and Risk Factors
FH arises when genes associated with producing receptors that clear LDL cholesterol from the bloodstreams are mutated. Faulty copies of four genes—LDLR, LDLRAP1, APOB, or PCSK9—can cause the condition, with most arising due to LDLR mutation. Your chances of developing FH are 50% if one parent has it, and 100% if both do.
Heterogenous FH, by far the most common type, arises when a faulty gene from an affected parent is paired with a healthy counterpart from the other. Only about half of the receptors that clear out LDL are present in these cases. When both parents carry the variant, homogenous FH arises, in which these receptors are entirely absent.
Globally, FH is one of the most common genetic disorders seen; however, exact estimates of prevalence are difficult because the condition often goes undetected. That said, certain populations have been found to have higher rates of inherited high cholesterol:
Lebanese Christians
Afrikaners in South Africa
French Canadians
Ashkenazi Jews
Diagnosis
Diagnosis of FH involves a combination of physical examination of symptoms, and, most conclusively, lab tests. Critical among the latter is the lipoprotein profile, sometime called a lipid panel, which measures levels of LDL, HDL (good cholesterol), and triglyceride (another type), while also providing a total score.
Doctors suspect FH in the following cases:
High total cholesterol: In children, scores above 250 milligrams/deciliter (mg/dL) prompt concern, with this figure rising to 300 mg/dL in adults.
High LDL: Levels of bad (LDL) cholesterol above 200 mg/dL in adults, and 150 mg/dL in children, can be signs of FH.
Physical symptoms: Those with xanthoma, corneal arcus, and Achilles tendon xanthoma will be suspected for FH.
Family history: Having an immediate relative with high cholesterol or early heart disease (onset younger than 55 for a father or brother, and 65 for a sister or mother) will warrant additional examination.
In suspected cases, while several sets of criteria (such as MEDPED) are effective at catching cases, only genetic testing can conclusively determine the presence of FH. They will show which specific genes are abnormal, with mutations in LDLR, APOB, and PCSK9 genes seen in 70% to 80% of these cases.
Treatment
Because of its nature, taking on FH can be difficult, and it often involves a multifaceted approach. Medications can certainly take on this condition, but lifestyle changes can help a great deal. The key is timely detection and prompt management.
Medications
Diagnosis of FH usually means being put on prescription medication, with the primary goal of lower LDL cholesterol levels. For high cholesterol, you most often see the following classes of drugs prescribed:
Statins reduce the amount of cholesterol produced by the liver and may also be taken for heart attack and stroke. Lipitor (atorvastatin), Lescol (fluvastatin), and Mevacor (lovastatin) are among the most commonly prescribed of these.
Bile acid sequestrants affect liver function, hindering its digestive function, which burns up cholesterol. Also called “resins,” this class of drug includes Questran (cholestyramine) and Colestid (colestipol), among others.
Fibrates lower triglyceride levels and raise HDL to reduce the impact of LDL cholesterol. For FH, you may be prescribed fenofibrate, which is sold as Antara, Tricor, or Fenoglide.
Other classes of drugs often indicated are PCSK9 inhibitors (alirocumab and evolocumab), selective cholesterol absorption inhibitors [Zetia (ezemtimibe); ACL inhibitors (Nexletol (bempedoic acid)], omega 3 fatty acids, and niacin.
LDL Apheresis
In difficult cases of FH, especially homogenous FH or heterogenous FH that’s resistant to drug treatment, a nonsurgical procedure called LDL apheresis may be attempted. The plasma of the blood is separated from the rest and run through a machine that removes the LDL. This is then combined with the rest.
Lifestyle Changes
While on their own, lifestyle changes may not be enough to reverse high cholesterol in FH, they can have a huge impact on outcomes. A recommended approach might include:
Steering clear of tobacco: Among the many negative aspects of smoking is elevated cholesterol levels; quitting can help bring them down.
Adjusting diet: Steer clear of foods high in trans or saturated fats, like red meat or fried foods. Cut out sugars, whole milk products, and emphasize heart-healthy foods: fruits and vegetables, fish, poultry, and whole grains.
Getting exercise: Being more active can certainly help bring down cholesterol levels. If you aren’t active, aim for about 150 minutes a week, or about 30 minutes a day, five of the seven days. Even low impact activities like brisk walks or cycling can help.
Losing weight: If you’re overweight or obese, you’ll want to see about means of losing weight. Even modest losses of 10% of body weight can positively impact cholesterol levels. Talk to your doctor about how to safely and sustainability achieve your target weight.
Maintaining emotional health: Stress and anger can also cause cholesterol levels to climb. Adopting means to take on these negative emotions, like meditation or yoga, can also help.
Managing other conditions: Diabetes mellitus, which affects blood sugar, is another cause of high cholesterol, as is hypertension (high blood pressure). Getting the right treatment for these conditions will also help lower your cholesterol.
Prognosis
If caught early and treated appropriately, most cases of heterogenous FH can be effectively managed. This is why it’s important to carefully follow doctor’s orders about lifestyle changes and medications. Notably, such care will significantly reduce the chance of severe complications, like heart attack.
The outlook is considerably worse for homogenous FH. This form is notoriously resistant to treatment, and it’s associated with onset of early heart attack (under 55 in men, and under 65 in women). Careful monitoring and more aggressive treatment is necessary in these cases.
FAQs
What is genetic high cholesterol?
Clinically referred to as familial hypercholesteremia (FH), genetic high cholesterol is high cholesterol that runs in families. Specifically, this causes elevated levels of LDL cholesterol (the “bad” kind), which is linked with an increased risk of developing coronary artery disease.
As an autosomal dominant disorder, parents with FH have a 50% chance of passing it to their children. The most common type is heterozygous FH (HeFH), which is when only one of your parents is carrying the gene variant that causes the condition. When both parents have it, in cases of homozygous FH (HoFH), two faulty variants are inherited. The latter is the more severe form.
How do you know if your high cholesterol is genetic?
If you’re found to have high cholesterol, your doctor will ask whether there’s any family history of the condition. If there is, this can be a first clue that your case is FH. The only way to conclusively know, however, is through genetic testing and counseling. Doctors look for mutations of the genes LDLR, LDLRAP1, APOB, or PCSK9, which help regulate cholesterol levels.
However, in about 20% to 30% of FH cases, standard genetic testing is unable to find the faulty gene. As such, negative results do not necessarily rule out a diagnosis.
What percentage of high cholesterol is genetic?
While about one in three Americans has high cholesterol, only about one in 200 adults has FH. Counting children, it affects an estimated 1.3 million Americans; however, about 90% of cases are undiagnosed. A vast majority of high cholesterol cases are due to other factors, such as diet and lifestyle.
Can you lower cholesterol if it’s genetic?
While high cholesterol can be tougher to take on if it’s due to FH, it can be managed. Making lifestyle changes such as adopting a cholesterol-lowering diet and increasing physical activity is the first step in lowering cholesterol.
Since FH cases are often resistant to these approaches, taking cholesterol-lowering drugs, such as statins or bile acid sequestrants, can further manage the condition. In severe cases of HoFH, pharmaceutical therapies may be supplemented with apheresis or liver transplant to normalize levels.
A Word From Verywell
While inherited high cholesterol can be difficult and dangerous, it’s important not to forget that it can be handled through a combination of medicine and lifestyle changes. Managed proactively and caught early, outcomes improve dramatically.
If you have any concerns about your cholesterol, or you know that FH runs in your family, don’t hesitate in talking to your doctor about getting tested. Certainly seek help if you feel any symptoms in your chest, limbs, or head.
A confirmed case is not the end of the world; it’s merely the beginning of the road to recovery. So long as you’re engaged in that process—and have help along the way—you’ll be able to take control of your cholesterol levels.

Abstract
The topic of our project was to explore the “Bitter gourd relish and blood group relationship.” The number of subjects to examine were 176. The process we adopted before examining the subjects was acquiring their consent before the collection of related information. We checked blood group of the subjects by using lancing device along with anti-sera A, B and D solutions and then noted the precipitate formation. In the meanwhile we asked whether they liked bitter gourd as a dish or not. We gathered the basic information about bitter gourd composition and its merits for the subjects that used it as a dish or juice. Then we organized the random data presented in a table and observed the relationship of bitter gourd liking to blood type and made a comparative analysis of blood groups. At the end, we defined the results.
Keywords:Bitter Gourd; Blood Grouping; Bitter Melon; Karela; Fondness; Relish; Liking
Introduction
Human beings has a fluid inside their bodies known as blood. Blood comprises leukocytes, erythrocytes, and platelets. ABO Blood Group system was first discovered in 1901 by Karl Landsteiner. The classification of human blood group is based on antigens and antibodies present in blood. Antibodies are the natural immune system proteins that act as a defense mechanism. ABO system is encoded by gene I located on chromosome 9. This gene is polymorphic having three alleles represented as Iᵃ, Iᵇ and i. If a subject has blood group A, then it means it has antigen A present on its red blood cells and antibody B is present. So, genotype IᵃIᵃ or Iᵃi, will produce phenotype A. Subject having genotype IᵇIᵇ or Iᵇi will produce phenotype B. Subject having AB blood, no antibody is present, and genotype is IᵃIᵇ. If blood group is O, this subject has no antigens and both antibodies are present in the blood plasma. So, the homozygous recessive genotype ii produces the phenotype O. The universal donor is O blood group and can donate blood to group A and group B types. The universal recipient is AB group, means it can take blood from any donor like from group A, B and O [1]. There is another protein known as Rh protein or Rh factor present on erythrocytes. A subject is Rh positive when the Rh protein is present and Rh negative if Rh protein is absent. So, blood group of a subject may be A⁻, A⁺, B⁻, B⁺, AB⁻, AB⁺, O⁺ and O⁻ [2].
Bitter gourd a vegetable, also known as bitter melon, bitter squash, balsam pear, and simply as karela (in Urdu). The scientific name of bitter gourd is Momordica chianti. Bitter gourd a vine of the family Cucurbitaceae, grown mostly in Asia and Africa [3]. Bitter gourd juice consists of nutrients like iron, magnesium, potassium and vitamin C. It is rich in dietary fiber. It contains two- fold of calcium of spinach, potassium of banana and beta-carotene. The compound momordicines and increased levels of calcium is the cause of characteristic bitterness of bitter gourd. Bitter gourd contains diabetic control compounds naturally. Also, bitter squash juice is anti-inflammatory and lowers bad cholesterol levels in human body and acid lessons the risk of heart of stroke and heart attack due to enrichment in iron and folic acid. It maintains the blood pressure of body. Anti-oxidants along with vitamins like C and A in bitter gourd retards premature skin ageing and minimizes wrinkles. Momordica charantia, a compound strengthens the anti-oxidant activity of liver enzyme and provides defense against liver failure and removes intoxication caused by frequent alcohol uptakes that settled down in liver. It also boosts functioning of bladder. Bitter melon contains less amount of carbohydrates, calories and fat, that play role in removal of already present fat cells and inhibits the generation of new fat cells. Anti-oxidants in bitter melon reduces the risk of cervical, prostate and breast cancer in humans. Bitter gourd decreases the sight-related problems such as cataract as being rich in vitamin A and beta-carotene and strengthens eyesight [4]. Objective of present study was correlating blood groupings with bitter gourd.
Materials and Method
Blood Grouping
The materials required to test blood group were the required quantity of blood from specific groups (three drops) was taken for testing with a prick of sterilized needle (blood lancet) on a fingertip (any), slides and solutions of anti-sera A (antigen A with B antibody), anti-sera B (contains antigens B with A antibodies) and anti-sera D (Rh +ve factor). Anti-sera means the solution contains opposite antibody with respect to antigen. First, label the slide with A, B, and D so that anti-sera drops can be identified. Then placed three drops of blood on the slide. Afterwards, add a or few drop of anti- sera A, anti-sera B, anti-sera D according to the labeling on the slide. In the end, leave the slide for two to three minutes or mix each drop with needle wire and observe the changes in drop solution. Precipitate formation of blood drop shows that blood group presence in subject. Precipitate formation in anti-sera D, meant positive. Precipitate formation in any anti-sera A, B and D, then A⁺, B⁺ blood group. If precipitates were formed in all three anti-sera A, B and D, then blood group was AB⁺. If precipitates were formed in only anti-sera D blood group was O⁺ and no precipitate in any anti-sera, meant that blood group was O⁻. If precipitates were formed in either anti-sera A or B, or both then blood group was A⁻, B⁻ and AB⁻ respectively.
Project Designing
The topic we selected was bitter gourd relish. We asked subjects whether they like bitter gourd as a dish or not because of its bitter taste. Subjects also gave their consent to check their blood group. Then we organized the random data and did the statistical analysis. The subjects which we chose for our project, were the 176 students of Bahauddin Zakariya University, Multan Pakistan.
Statistical analysis
We did Statistical analysis by using MS Excel
Results and Dicussion
Studies based on questionnaire have given an important advancement in science [5-12]. No linkage or research work was found that correlated my topic (Table 1).
Table 1:
Conclusion
The present study concluded in figure (A) that bitter gourd fondness was shown mostly by B⁺ subjects. B⁺ blood group subjects liked the bitter melon most. The frequent occurrence of similar blood group of my subjects were B⁺. All the subjects of our research having O⁻ blood group were females and they all liked the bitter melon. The likeliness percentage of subjects with blood group O⁺ and B⁺ were same, (11%). All blood group AB⁻ and B⁻ subjects liked bitter squash. Out of 46 male subjects, bitter melon was liked by 30 males. Total 92 female subjects liked the taste of bitter squash as a dish out of 130.
