“What sort of love is it if you hand someone over when it gets difficult?"
Yesterday, i decided to read this book someone online suggested to me " A man called Ove." It was advertised to me as funny and heartwarming (big BIG understatement), and so i thought it would be a nice break from the depressing stuff I've been reading lately. I didn’t read reviews, summary, or anything because i like to go into books blind. All I knew about the book is that it's supposed to be funny. However, now it's 3 a.m. My eyes are bloodshot, and I'm in bed holding back tears. The book is finished, I couldn’t put it down until i did so, and all i want need is a hug.
"Ove's heart is too big." This is the best book I've read for a good while. It made me laugh. It made me want to cry, and then it did make me cry before making me laugh again.
I don't know if it's the fact that I've been mentally trying to prepare myself for the loss of a loved one, or if it's the way Ove describes his wife, as sunshine and color and destiny - A love that is so strong, so pure and strange it doesn't feel real but it doesn’t feel fake at all - but this book hit me like a bus and i didn’t anticipate that at all.
Absolutely recommend.
