I'm really glad Liriel never knew Solas when he was younger or the force of their arguments would've caused far greater explosions than anything Solas ever did with the Veil

Liriel: What would you say if I came home one day with ten puppies?
Solas: What's in the box?
Liriel:
Solas: Liriel. What's in the box?
Liriel: I think you know.

My Dalish characters wouldn’t remove the vallaslin any more than someone today would get rid of an important cultural tradition because of shit that happened thousands of years ago.
In my headcanon, Solas never asked Liriel because he KNEW she’d tell him to go fuck himself if he tried. She has too much respect for the Dalish despite not even being born into them. She’d never do that to the people who took her in as one of their own.
Plus a good part of the reason why she took the vallaslin was because of what the markings represent. She didn’t even believe in the gods until she met Abelas. She took on the markings to respect the people who took her in, and also to honour her late mother, and to show how important justice was to her. Mythal represented all that. Taking the vallaslin was a no brainer. Keeping it was never even a question.
Feel free to explain why in the tags, because there's compelling reasons for both but I'm curious as to how it's split amongst us

So in terms of gameplay and story how are you enjoying DAtV? from your playblogs it does seem to be pretty interesting and I love how you've brought back your Inquisitor so she can have more confrontational of Stolas and possibly knock some sense into him/or at least stab him XD
She's actually not my Inquisitor! I mean, I did play her as one once, but on a subsequent playthrough with another Inquisitor I decided she'd be a headcanon companion, along with @orodrethsgeek's Mahanon Souvelani and Lahariel Nehnsuledin. In my particular canon the three of them, plus Solas, made their own squad while Sable was doing his own thing. Solas was bascially forcefully adopted by the three of them and occasionally getting yelled at for being racist. also Liriel knew from the start that he was suspicious as fuck so she poked holes in just about everything he said. buuuut she boned him because she was bored and horny (and Mahanon and Lahariel were already boning each other) and Cel is the result, but Cel gives no fucks that Solas is her bio dad because she considers Mahanon and Lahariel her dads.
Basically when I was playing Sable Trevelyan Liriel kept Yelling at the back of my head at Solas and INSISTED on being a part of it so what the hell, bonus companion.
I'm enjoying DAtV! I'm a bit confused at the direction they've taken a few things in, but I'm really pleased at how they're treating the Dalish so far (180 compared to DAI, which was basically "fuck the Dalish: the game"). The devs said this game is the most Dragon Agey so far, but... honestly for me it feels the opposite, it doesn't feel like Dragon Age nearly as much as the other games. But I'm reserving judgment until I've played it through. I've only just finished act 1.

Mahanon: Hello, Liriel. So, how long have you been sleeping with Solas?
Liriel, blanching: What?!
Mahanon: How long have you been sleeping with Solas?
Liriel: That's disgusting and wrong! I don't even get -- why would --? I-I have never had sex... with anyone, anywhere. It's none of your- you have the n-nerve, the audacity... Solas is my friend, technically. And he is terrible -- face-wise. And how -- how -- do I know that frankly you're not sleeping with him? Maybe you are. Maybe you're trying to throw me off. Hmm! Check and mate.

Liriel, sighing: How did you find out?

She fucked the Dread Wolf and had his kid.
Liriel was initially a headcanon companion in DAI, along with two of @orodrethsgeek's OCs. The four of them made a squad that Sable Trevelyan often sent on missions. Liriel and Solas got along like a house on fire, in the sense that they destroyed everything around them, devouring everything in their path, and others were constantly trying to put out their arguments. Because they argued. CONSTANTLY. Liriel was suspicious of Solas pretty much from the moment he accidentally let slip that an artefact was responsible before anyone had any inkling that one was. After that, Liriel spent the rest of the game crawling up his arse, calling him out on every single slip up and yelling at him for being racist. Eventually she came to the conclusion that while he was responsible for the Breach, she believed it was an accident that got out of hand and that he regretted it and wouldn't pull anything like that again.
They fucked purely out of boredom. (Mahanon absolutely shipped them. Solas and Liriel told him not to get his hopes up and may or may not have laughed in his face.) Liriel is completely feral and literally forgot how babies are made. They were genuinely fond of each other by the end of DAI but that didn't slow down the arguing one bit, and Liriel was genuinely sad that Solas left and was later furious that he wanted to tear down the Veil. She wanted to literally kill him at the end of Trespasser, tho in the years since she's decided she'll try to talk him down first before any stabbing takes place because she thinks the Dread Wolf just needs to be adopted by a pack and maybe he'll calm his fucking tits. she's still ready to fuck him up if need be tho.
Ten years later she's married to Lahariel and Mahanon (@orodrethsgeek's OCs) and raising their kid, Celysel, who knows she comes from Solas but doesn't really give a fuck. As soon as I saw the game play trailer where Rook is chasing after Solas Liriel went "that's me! I'm doing that! I am NOT standing by again while this little shit is fucking everyone over AGAIN!"
so yeah she's barged her way into another game, this time as the main character.
(it's also totally in character for her to fuck up Solas's ritual without thinking twice. she's calmed down since DAI but not so much she still doesn't set out to ruin his day. "SURPRISE, BITCH! I bet you thought you saw the last of me!" is going to be Yelled. He will just groan the second he recognises her voice because fucking hell it's that bitch again. he is going to haunt the shit out of her. she's going to Yell at him. there is going to be SO much Yelling.)
Only 6 more days!
The wait has got me curious about everyone’s Rooks. So tell me, what’s something the DATV companions will be surprised to learn about your Rook’s backstory or hobbies?
For Madeleina Mercar I think the group would be surprised to learn she was initially going to follow in her birth father’s footsteps to become a bard, before her mage powers manifested. She prides herself on having a good ear for music and being able to pick up tunes quickly. She also has a small notebook filled with whatever tales she can remember learning from her father as well, and is happy to talk anyone’s ear off who’s willing to listen.
I’d like to imagine one day in Solas’ meditation room she finds a lute or a fiddle and starts playing again to bring some cheer to the Lighthouse.

Solas Stays AU
AKA the AU that has consumed my life over the past several months years. Lol, I started drafting this post way back when I first commissioned these from @sunshinemage in 2016, and so much has changed since then--I’m out of the shithole job I had back then and slightly more mentally stable; I’ve lost pets and gained pets, rekindled old friendships and started new ones. (I am still living with my parents.) These four have children of their own, now, and they’re so important to me, even if Dusty and I don’t spend whole days emailing each other about them anymore.
I’m so thankful for the friendships this hellsite and these games have given me. @robotslenderman, you’ve become one of my best friends over the past five years, and you’ve seen me through some dark times. Belated public thanks to sunshinemage for this lovely artwork; the top right is the canon romance tile for Solas, but the other three counter-clockwise from the top are:
Liriel (Lavellan) Lavellan
Mahanon (Lavellan) Dirtharen
Lahariel (Sabrae) (Lavellan) Dirtharen

Liriel Lavellan has three husbands. She jokes that she has that many because the first one almost died of sexual exhaustion so now she rotates them out.
I laughed XD who are these husbands!
anyway my oc fact:
Radha Daimhin has a collection of raw crystals on her belt always on display. These were, in fact, small gifts from her deceased lover Braith, another Aen Seidhe Sorceress who was training in Aretuza who died in the Siege. In order, the crystals are A Rose quartz, a Carnelian, and a Jade.

Im rereblogging this bc that line about Lyris’s horror when she realised she’d been in the Deep Roads and pregnant reminded me of how Liriel was pregnant a little earlier - she figured it out on the trip to the Arbor Wilds, in fact, bc her shapeshifting got all fucky - but then went and charged into the Deep Roads anyway bc she’s completely fucking feral and it wasn’t until she was too big to move around easily that the others managed to finally get her to sit the fuck down
TELL US MORE ABOUT THE BABY
Okie, so her name is Tala. She was conceived on the trip to the Arbor Wilds, but was only 'discovered' after Lyris returned from the Frostback Basin. So there was the fun realisation that she'd been pregnant while venturing through the Deep Roads and fighting a possessed dragon lmao
She was born in Wycome and was delivered by Keeper Deshanna, who performed the typical rites and rituals to induct the newborn into the clan as one of the Dalish. Lyris also made a point to bring her to the Vhenadahl in the Alienage and receive blessings from the Hahren because if there was one thing Lyris learned, it was that too many elves - Dalish and City - felt like they were entirely different peoples, and she wanted to try to promote some kind of unity, to remind them all that they are of the same people regardless of circumstance. There ended up being a celebration amongst the elves over the new arrival, and the party lasted for hours before mother and baby were exhausted and needed to retire.
During the time before Trespasser, Tala grew up primarily in Skyhold. As she became more mobile, she made a habit of hiding and jumping out at staff, soldiers and visiting dignitaries before running away laughing and she loves to spend time in the garden hunting for bugs and worms, and eating dirt as tiny children often do.
Krem stitches her new toys from time to time. So far she has a nug with wings, a golden halla, a griffon with a crooked tail, and a dragon that breathes fire (aka Dagna figured out a way to make the dragon spit out illusionary sparkles when it's squeezed and Tala still isn't sick of it).
She learns to speak Elvhen, Qunlat, Antivan, and a little Orlesian, and everyone anticipates that she's definitely going to be a mage, given that her mother and father are both mages and powerful ones at that, so there's plenty of discussion about her training. Lyris intends to stick to Dalish tradition on that front. Once the basics are covered, the others can give their own input, but Tala needs a solid base without any mixed messages.
And when it comes to Solas, no one is allowed to openly detract him in front of Tala. They don't need to sing his praises, but Tala deserves to form her own opinion of her father and not be spoonfed criticism. And if anyone's ever asked about where he went and why he never came back, the official answer is 'I don't know, but we assume it's very important'.
After Trespasser plays out and Skyhold is carefully defanged, Lyris takes Tala to live in Kirkwall where she takes up her role as Comtesse, though they make plenty of trips to Wycome over the years. Lyris tells Tala the truth about Solas being Fen'Harel and that he left for an important mission, but certain details are withheld on account of her age and Lyris' hope that Solas' mind can be changed and he can still come back to be Tala's father. She'll be told more as she gets older, but it's very piecemeal.
By the time Dreadwolf comes around, she'll be nearly eight years old and probably have just come into her magic within the last year or so with Lyris and Merrill as her primary teachers. When she tells her mother about the strange wolf watching her in her dreams, she learns that her mother has the same dreams, and that its Solas watching over them from the Fade, never drawing close because they could tempt him to abandon his path.
Solas has known about Tala the whole time, having learned about Lyris' pregnancy from dreams and his spies, and he tries his best to maintain an emotional distance from the child. He doesn't always succeed though, and he watches over her, protecting her in her dreams. On one occasion, he might let her reach him so that he might get the chance to speak to her just once, to let her know him because this is his daughter and he wants to love her even though he can't and if he just allows this one meeting, maybe it will satisfy this terrible yearning in him so that he can focus solely on his path. But he knows that if he meets her once, it might be unbearable to return to that path and he might fail to let go.
Essentially he's torturing himself even more because he loves Lyris so much and he wants to love their child so much, but he loves his people and can he really put his love and their child over the countless souls that he betrayed?
Smash cut to Tala eating dirt and trying to climb into the stable with a drasolisk, which definitely gave poor Master Dennet a heart attack.
#when she gave birth she didn’t want anyone around her while she was that vulnerable#so she broke into someone’s house and gave birth under their bed#and refused to let anyone in until she was done#luckily by the time Eo was born she knew better#but her childhood running from templars in the wild made her pretty feral#Liriel Lavellan
