The Basics About Liquor Liability Insurance
If you are a professional bartender, you should be aware of liquor liability insurance. There are two kinds of insurance policies that provide protection for you as a bartender: General Liability and Liquor Liability. General Liability provides coverage for both liquor liability and general liability. General liability is protection against any claims you may suffer because of your liquor service. This protection includes everything from personal injury to property damage.

*Is required by law to have liquor liability insurance on-site at all times. This means that your bar or kitchen is equipped with a licensed and insured kitchen to serve you alcohol, as well as an insured bar or lounge area. It also requires you to obtain endorsements from your state's board of license for those who serve their beverages on your premises. You will have to also obtain endorsements for your customers, and even employees.
*is required by law to have liquor liability insurance that covers you in the event of any injuries sustained by customers or employees, caused by your negligence. This is often known as the 'Dunn Act'. You will also have to have endorsements for the state where you operate your business.
While it can be difficult to compare liquor liability insurance to other types of insurance, it is important that you understand all the benefits that come with having liquor liability coverage. When it comes right down to it, this type of insurance can protect your business if you were to become the victim of any of these situations: theft, bodily injury or property damage caused by your negligence.
*is required by law to have liquor liability insurance if your bar or restaurant serves food or drinks to customers. This is true whether you have your restaurant or bar inside or out. If you're serving food, you need to make sure that you have a complete set of policies that cover you for food served in the restaurant or bar, as well as for food that is served off-site.
*is required by law to have liquor liability insurance if your restaurant or bar has a home bar attached to it. This means that if you serve alcoholic beverages on-premises, you must have a separate policy for your home bar, as well. This is true whether you serve cocktails, beer, wine, or liquor.
*is required by law to have liquor liability insurance if you are a host. Whether you host a private party or an open house, you must have the policy that covers you for damages that can occur due to accidents caused by customers or staff members at your open house. This is especially true if the party happens outside, such as in a parking lot.

Bars, nightclubs, and taverns are often the go-to destinations for those who are looking to socialize, build relationships, or just have a drink. However, these places have an increased risk of liability hazards arising from untruly or over-served patrons and poor alcohol serving practices, facing expensive lawsuits and claims. This is where pubs and tavern insurance can come to your rescue, keeping you covered against these incidents.
