Factors to Consider When Choosing Dewars and Cryogenic Vessels
When selecting Dewars and cryogenic vessels for your business needs, it's important to consider several factors to ensure that you choose the right equipment. Here are some key factors to keep in mind:
Purpose and Application: Determine the specific purpose and application of the vessels you need. Consider the type of materials you will be storing or transporting, their temperature requirements, and any specific handling or safety considerations.
Capacity and Size: Assess your storage or transportation needs in terms of capacity and size. Consider the volume of materials you need to store or transport and choose vessels that can accommodate your requirements. Keep in mind that larger vessels may offer more storage capacity but may also be more challenging to handle and transport.
Material and Construction: Pay attention to the material and construction of the Dewars and cryogenic vessels. Stainless steel and aluminum are commonly used materials as they offer durability and resistance to low temperatures. Glass vessels may be suitable for certain applications but can be more fragile. Choose vessels that are designed to withstand the temperatures and conditions specific to your application.
Insulation: Consider the insulation capabilities of the vessels. Effective insulation is crucial for maintaining the low temperatures required for cryogenic storage. Look for vessels with high-quality insulation materials and designs that minimize heat transfer and provide efficient temperature control.
Safety Features: Ensure that the vessels you choose have appropriate safety features. This may include pressure relief valves, emergency venting systems, and secure closures to prevent leaks or spills. Safety should be a top priority when dealing with cryogenic materials.
Supplier Reputation and Support: Research and choose reputable suppliers or manufacturers with experience in producing high-quality Dewars and cryogenic vessels. Consider factors such as product warranties, technical support, and after-sales service. A reliable supplier will be able to provide guidance and assistance throughout the lifespan of the equipment.
Compliance with Regulations: Verify that the Dewars and cryogenic vessels you choose comply with relevant regulations and standards in your industry. This ensures that the equipment meets safety and performance requirements and can be used legally and responsibly.
Conclusion
Choosing the right Dewars and cryogenic vessels is essential for businesses that require storage or transportation of materials at extremely low temperatures. By considering factors such as purpose, capacity, materials, insulation, safety features, supplier reputation, and compliance with regulations, you can make an informed decision that suits your business needs.
It's recommended to consult with industry experts or suppliers who specialize in cryogenic equipment to get personalized recommendations based on your specific requirements. They can provide valuable insights and guidance to help you choose the most suitable Dewars and cryogenic vessels for your business.

What to Expect During a Professional Tank Cleaning Session?
Tank cleaning is an essential aspect of maintaining a well-functioning and safe industrial or commercial facility. Whether it's for storage tanks, process vessels, or other types of containers, regular cleaning is crucial for ensuring compliance with safety standards, preventing contamination, and extending the life of the equipment.
As a facility manager or owner, understanding what to expect during a Professional tank cleaning session can help you prepare and make the most of the service.
Preparing for the Tank Cleaning Session
Before the professional tank cleaning team arrives, it's important to prepare the area around the tank. Remove any obstacles or equipment that could hinder the cleaning process and ensure that there is sufficient space for the crew to work efficiently.
Communicate any specific requirements or safety protocols to the cleaning team to ensure a smooth and coordinated operation.
Initial Assessment and Safety Measures
Upon arrival, the cleaning team will conduct a thorough assessment of the tank to identify any potential hazards or specific challenges that need to be addressed. This assessment may involve checking for residual products, identifying potential contaminants, and evaluating the structural integrity of the tank.

ALT: This video shows blades of grass moving in the wind on a beautiful day at NASA’s Michoud Assembly Facility in New Orleans. In the background, we see the 212-foot-core stage for the powerful SLS (Space Launch System) rocket used for Artemis I. The camera ascends, revealing the core stage next to a shimmering body of water as technicians lead it towards NASA’s Pegasus barge. Credit: NASA
The SLS (Space Launch System) Core Stage by Numbers
Technicians with NASA and SLS core stage lead contractor Boeing, along with RS-25 engines lead contractor Aerojet Rocketdyne, an L3Harris Technologies company, are nearing a major milestone for the Artemis II mission. The SLS (Space Launch System) rocket’s core stage for Artemis II is fully assembled and will soon be shipped via barge from NASA’s Michoud Assembly Facility in New Orleans to the agency’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida. Once there, it will be prepped for stacking and launch activities.
Get to know the core stage – by the numbers.
Standing 212 feet tall and measuring 27.6 feet in diameter, the SLS core stage is the largest rocket stage NASA has ever built. Due to its size, the hardware must be shipped aboard NASA’s Pegasus barge.
900 miles
Once loaded, the barge – which was updated to accommodate the giant core stage -- will travel 900 miles to Florida across inland and ocean waterways. Once at Kennedy, teams with our Exploration Ground Systems team will complete checkouts for the core stage prior to stacking preparations.
18 Miles + 500 Sensors
As impressive as the core stage is on the outside, it’s also incredible on the inside. The “brains” of the rocket consist of three flight computers and special avionics systems that tell the rocket what to do. This is linked to 18 miles of cabling and more than 500 sensors and systems to help feed fuel and steer the four RS-25 engines.
8.8 million
Speaking of engines… Our SLS Moon rocket generates approximately 8.8 million pounds of thrust at launch. Two million pounds come from the four powerful RS-25 engines at the base of the core stage, while each of the two solid rocket boosters produces a maximum thrust of 3.6 million pounds. Together, the engines and boosters will help launch a crew of four Artemis astronauts inside NASA’s Orion spacecraft beyond Earth orbit to venture around the Moon.
733,000 Gallons
Achieving the powerful thrust required at launch calls for a large amount of fuel - 733,000 gallons, to be precise. The stage has two huge propellant tanks that hold the super-cooled liquid hydrogen and liquid oxygen that make the rocket “go.” A new liquid hydrogen storage sphere has recently been built at Kennedy, which can store 1.25 million gallons of liquid hydrogen.
Four
The number four doesn’t just apply to the RS-25 engines. It’s also the number of astronauts who will fly inside our Orion spacecraft atop our SLS rocket for the first crewed Artemis mission. When NASA astronauts Reid Wiseman, Christina Koch, and Victor Glover along with CSA astronaut Jeremy Hansen launch, they will be the first astronauts returning to the Moon in more than 50 years.

visual description: Bisan, an arab girl with black curly hair, standing in the street wearing a hoodie. In the background there are four story tall buildings that are white. A couple people are walking in the background and some cars and horses are moving past. One of the cars is an ambulance with the flag of Palestine and the flag of Kuwait. Two red signs with white writing can be seen but the text is blurry.
During the video 3 different pictures are put up on screen. First a photograph of Muhammad al-Nunu. Later two from a news article about the israeli soldiers attacking, one showing the soldiers and one showing a brown tanks, there is text in Arabic. Another of three boys carrying a dead person.
transcript:
Hey everyone, this is Bisan from Gaza. It's the day 69 after hundred of the genocide and the day 13 of the holy month of Ramadan.
And it's the day six of the besieging and invading of Al Shifa hospital, attacking the hospital, the displaced people inside, the doctors and the injuries by the israeli army and the israeli soldiers, the israeli tanks and bulldozers.
So for those who don't know, people are either inside one building of Shifa complex buildings, without water, without food, without the ability to move anywhere or to get outside that building and to be executed.
And talking about execution today, Muhammad al-Nunu, he is a doctor. The israeli army executed Muhammad al-Nunu because he refused to leave the unit that he is working in and refused to leave his patients and preferred to stay to complete their treatment because a lot of the ICU, of the intensive care unit patients died, passed away because there is no electricity, there is no food, there is no staff, there is bombing and burning for the hospital utilities.
So he refused to leave them and he was executed. He was killed in front of the people, in front of the patients. This is what is happening now in Al Shifa hospital.
It is a hospital and this is happening to them.
Thousands of people, women, children and innocent men and civilians are stuck in a building, in Al Shifa hospital without food, without water.
They started to drink the hospital storage saline solutions. It's the only liquids that they have.
And no one is talking about that. No one, no media, not enough media, no government, no one is talking about this.
And this is not the only horrific thing that happened today in the north of Gaza Strip, by the way, today between ten to 20 people were killed by the israeli shooting on the liquid roundabout while they were waiting for their humanitarian aid.
They were waiting for food because they're starving to death. In the north of Gaza Strip, in Ramadan months, they were waiting for food and they were killed by the israeli army.
How many times we need to scream more about that?
The north of Gaza Strip is under attack like it was the first days of this genocide. Exactly.
They are brutally killed and bombed. It is a hospital with thousands of innocent people, medical staff, injuries, civilians, and they are starved - to death. They are without water, without treatment
They are bleeding in front of each other until the death. And everyone is out of the building executed by snipers or inside starving to death.
This is what is happening now inside Al Shifa Hospital now, at this moment, for six days.

A list of equipment in Luis Serra's lab and what he might use them for
My beloved mutual @geddy-leesbian put in a ton of effort and got these incredibly detailed screenshots of Luis's island lab, featured in this post, and I thought I would follow that up by comparing what he uses to what I use in my own lab. This was fun for me to do and I also thought it could be used as a resource for any writers that aren't as familiar with Luis's profession.
(for context if you don't know me, I am a microbiologist, bacterial geneticist if you want to be specific. I'll be earning my PhD hopefully this year, and I have been studying biology for 10 years, and actively working in various labs for 7)
Obviously this is a science fiction video game, so while I may be a scientist, I am still using some level of guesswork! This is just meant to be a fun little thing for my fellow resi nerds.
1. Liquid Nitrogen tank
These are used for flash-freezing biological samples for long-term storage. In the context of Luis’s research, he might flash-freeze plaga cells or dead plaga bodies in order to store them (typically at -80 Celsius) without them decaying or being damaged
2. Microcentrifuge
This is a veryyyyy common piece of equipment. You use them to spin samples so you can collect cells out of suspension. It’s like how they spin blood to separate it from plasma at blood donation centers
3. Light microscope
I’m sure everyone recognizes this one but still wanted to add the picture from my lab because I appreciate how detailed and accurate his equipment is
4. Shaking incubator
Used to grow tubes of cells! They are typically kept at 37C (body temperature) and they shake at like 200rpm to keep oxygen flowing through the culture so they stay healthy. You would do this to grow samples of whatever organism you desired so you could run experiments on it the next day (we call it making overnights or overnight cultures).
5. Maybe an anaerobic chamber?
These are slightly less common pieces of lab equipment so I was surprised to see it! We have one in our lab because we do some work on gut-dwelling bacteria that have to be grown without oxygen. As you can see, ours looks a little different so it might have some different uses, but generally the little cube on the right side is where you would place a sample (it’s an airlock) and then transfer it into the chamber. Seeing as Luis has it, I’m thinking maybe las plagas might need to be grown anaerobically at certain stages, I’d guess in early life when it’s really dependent on being in the human body.
I've got some other pictures to compare that I'll also be posting about in the coming days, about things like chemical management plus some other weird equipment things Luis has, but in the meantime if you have specific questions feel free to DM me! I hope this is helpful!
