I Choose ones that are actually sequels, not prequels or inbetweeners (sorry lion king 1/2 and Bambi 2). Also had to be direct to video, not theater release (I'm very sad I couldnt include Return to Neverland but it had a theatrical release).
Theres still others that fit this bill, but I selected ones that I've actually seen/own or ones I thought were "bigger"/better known

“But... Mama always says to stay to the Outlands, Simba won’t allow us back into the Pridelands without--”
“Do you always do what your mother says?”
“Well, n-no, but I--”
“Ha! Bet’cha do!! Bet you’re mommy’s little boy, haha!!”
-------------------------------------
I’m not in the best headspace today and have been clinging to one of my childhood comforts this evening. I don’t want t sound like a broken record, I’m sure you guys can figure out who put me in this mindset.
But Lion King is a comfort for me, it’s my childhood movie trilogy and I’ve been having the need to make are of my little cub oc for quite some time, I just... never really get the courage to go through with it. Given I needed the comfort tonight, I figured it would help ease my mind to draw him.
I traced over a screenshot from TLK2 and inserted my little Outsider cub, Haji. He’s considered a runt and was born around the same time as Kovu and Vitani. Haji is very timid and sticks to what his mother, Inaya, tells him to do. He usually helps her tend to the wounded lionesses when his mom isn’t out scouting the Prideland borders for Zira. If it weren’t for Inaya’s dedication to overthrowing Simba, Zira probably would have killed off Haji the moment she found out about his birth.

i have decided to review movies from my childhood that nobody my age remembers
as a 16 year old raised by three VHS 90's kids, I have experienced so many different different movies that nobody my age seems to have watched. So I have no made it my goal to write reviews for those movies to encourage my peers into watching them because I literally have nothing to relate to with my generation.
I will be ranking movies based on four things: movie poster, plot, acting, and generally whether I liked it or not
The first movie on the chopping block is: lion king 2 Simba's pride
Category 1 - movie poster
Tumblr media
I feel like this poster is kinda basic, but it gets the point across that it's a sequel. It shows the old characters to get the old fans in and out shows the new characters to add a little bit of spice.
All in all - ⭐⭐⭐ three stars
Category 2 - plot
The plot is very reminiscent of Romeo and Juliet based one the way that there are two different lion families and the two that aren't supposed to be together fall in love with each other. I mean, I've never read Romeo and Juliet but I'm pretty sure the title characters die, which doesn't happen in this story, so pretty good.
All in all - ⭐⭐⭐ three stars
Category 3 - acting
The acting from the new cast is great. You can really tell there's emotion coming from Kovu and Kiara and you can see and hear the rage coming from Kovu's mom (I forgot her name) when she sings "that's my lullaby". The original cast is kinda bland though, especially with timon and pumba. They were there to review their roles as the comedic relief, but the writers clearly didn't put enough effort to make sure that they were actually funny. I'm gonna include the songs here real quick because there is a lot coming from those. I already mentioned how that's my lullaby is really good, but that's not the only good one. All of the songs in this movie are very top tier but the best ones in my personal opinion are "upendi" and "one of us". I feel like those songs really show the extent the animators could got to with those songs.
All in all - ⭐⭐⭐⭐ four stars
Category 4 - did I like it or not
Yes, I loved this movie. I used to watch it all the to me when I was a young little lad and I still consistently watch it now as a teenager. This was an integral part of my childhood, I remember watching this more than the first movie. I watched it to the point that my parents would have to turn the TV off in the summers and make do something else because I would watch it so much.
All in all - ⭐⭐⭐⭐ four stars
Lion king 2: Simba's pride was a great movie from start to finish, and that'll give it a Witt rating of: awesome sauce

I wanna rant about the live-action lion king vs the animated lion king.
I don't like how they made scar. For me as a kid one of the scariest things about scar was that he would hold simba. In every scene we see scar and simba in together, scar is always reaching out to hold him close or act like a caring uncle.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
We know that scar has bad intentions but it makes sense that simba wouldn't see those bad intentions because scar always reaches out for him, holds him close, smiles at him, claims he only wants the best for simba, andalways comes off as a strange yet caring affectionate uncle, who's protective.
we know simba truly does love his uncle, we can see in his scenes with scar that he trusts scar and is affectionate with him.
Scar plays the part of a eccentric, playful and affectionate uncle so well, so when he tells the hyenas
" kill him"
right after pulling simba in and holding his grieving nephew, it made my lil jaw drop. I was SHOCKED because I thought as a kid that he has a shred of love for simba and didn't really wanna kill him.
No, scar was just super manipulative.
it was all just manipulation. That's what made scar scary for me as a kid because he pretended he loved simba so effortlessly.
Scar always reached out for simba first, that stayed in my mind for years.
In the live action lion king, scar doesn't feel do any of that. I don't think he ever even touches simba other then in like 2 scenes...
It really bothered me that they took those scenes out, I felt like those scenes showed how truly manipulative, cunning and apathetic that scar truly was.

It's interesting that they seemed to have kept Kiara's apricot(?) colored pelt (kind of hard to tell with the lighting) from the animated movie but changed the color of her eyes from brown/red like her father's to teal/green like her mother's.

Rewatched "Spirit Stallion of The Cimmeron" the other night and it hit me how many cartoon animal guys have major eyebrow game. The thought that turtle tot Donnie was inspired by these movies to draw his eyebrows gives me more joy than it should.
