House committee notes 'improved' situation in J&K | India News

SRINAGAR: The 11-member parliamentary standing committee on external affairs has reviewed the situation in J&K and expressed satisfaction over the "improved" atmosphere in the Valley despite multiple challenges faced by security forces, the Army said on Wednesday. The committee, led by chairperson PP Chaudhary, visited the Army's Chinar Corps headquarters in Srinagar and was briefed by the general officer commanding, Lt Gen DP Pandey, on the situation along the Line of Control and in the hinterland. "The GOC also briefed the members on the steps being taken to break the cycle of violence and bring peace and stability to Kashmir," a defence spokesperson said. "The Chinar Corps' efforts in building citizen-Army connect were also highlighted." 138 Pakistani soldiers being killed by Army in 2017 in tactical operations

Being told by government intelligence sources today, 138 Pakistani Army soldiers were being killed by Indian Army in tactical operations and retaliatory cross-border firings in Jammu and Kashmir along the Line of Control (LOC). The sources also said that in the same operations, 28 Indian soldiers also lost their lives. Pakistani Army shows themselves as civilian casualties in certain cases but they usually do not acknowledge the deaths of its own soldiers, said by the sources. They also referred to the Kargil war when Pakistani army declined to accept the casualties even when India provided all the proofs. The incident of what happened on December 25 was also cited by the sources when 5 Indian Army commandos crossed the LOC in Jammu and Kashmir and killed three Pakistani soldiers. These deaths were acknowledged by Pakistani Army by posting a tweet that day but later on, they deleted it.

Pakistani Army also suffered 155 non–fatal casualties in 2017 in tactical operations and retaliatory cross-border firings in Jammu and Kashmir along the Line of Control (LOC), being told by government intelligence sources. Talking about Indian Army, 70 soldiers were severely injured during cross-border firings and other incidents. When asked about the fatalities on the Pakistani side, they refused to comment. India has been effectively retaliating against all ceasefire violations by the Pakistani Army and will continue to do so, said by Army Spokesperson Col Aman Anand. As against last 221 years, 860 incidents of ceasefire violations by Pakistani troops were being reported in 2017. The Indian Army has said that they launched “Punitive fire assaults” on Pakistani positions along the LOC, inflicting little damage and after some days, two Indian Army soldiers were beheaded.
