Music History Today: June 26, 2023
June 26, 1972: During Olympic Studios, London, England sessions, David Bowie recorded "John, I'm Only Dancing," with Mick Ronson on lead guitar and Lou Reed on rhythm guitar. The original video directed by Mick Rock, featuring androgynous dancers from Lindsay Kemp's mime troupe, was banned by the British music show Top Of The Pops.

David Bowie, an icon of musical and popular culture
It seems important to me to talk about David Bowie and his long musical career to understand why he is an artist who remained so popular and memorable throughout his career.
David Robert Jones, whom we know to this day by his stage name, David Bowie, was a British singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, actor and designer, who represents one of the most important characters in rock history, being one of the leading figures most influential in popular music.
If we search a little about his career, we will find that Bowie has moved through different sound forms, such as glam rock or instrumental electronics, experimenting with various ways of expressing his musical talent, mutating his style repeatedly. In my opinion, and according to the collective imagination, one of her most memorable looks is the one she adopted in the 70s, a punk and psychedelic style that gave him a very characteristic androgynous look, which is still iconic today.
On the other hand, during the 60s, he was part of many bands, including The Konrads, The Hooker Brothers, The King Bees, but he did not have great success with them. That is why, in the middle of that same decade, he began his solo career, releasing his first album called "David Bowie" in 1967. However, it was not until 1972 that he began his transformations in style that gave him his characteristic ambiguous personality.
And we can’t only highlight his great development in music, since he also explored acting, where this experience influenced his musical presentations, noting the contributions of characters like Lindsay Kemp in his performances. David's music created a very characteristic futuristic atmosphere, but it was criticized by the British world anyway, so Bowie decided to adopt a soberer personal image again, taking contributions from disco music for his new creations.
With all this, we can say that David Bowie had a career marked by success and controversy, but he is still very memorable for the versatility of his personal and musical style, generating that he is remembered to this day as an icon within the music industry and also giving him recognition for his contribution to the world of acting.

Quote
The rhythms and the musicality of Shakespeare’s language can make the meaning clear for any audience, provided the actor has sufficient training, technique and talent...These days the actor is rarely equipped with all the performer’s skills which were once de rigueur. In the past, the acrobatic harlequin in pantomime at Drury Lane was often seen, some nights later, playing Shakespeare; in later years [the Australian performer] Robert Helpmann successfully played Hamlet at Stratford-upon-Avon and afterwards danced the same role in his ballet at Covent Garden.

Happy Birthday David Bowie! I still believe you live now and you remains forever and ever.
