Heritage at risk
A haul of 50 Roman coins that were unearthed by a metal detectorist is expected to fetch between £1,200 and £1,500 at auction. He said "something told" him to go to the field, which he had visited "numerous times" and after his metal detector picked up a faint signal, he found two Roman coins in the same hole. Mr Dunn, who has been metal detecting for two years, said he went to get the farmer and dug a further two feet (61cm) down where they found 50 coins. Mr Dunn took the coins in a briefcase to his local finds officer, who spent a year offering them to various museums, which did not wish to claim them.
Sixty centimetres down means the coins were in situ. The article shows that this guy used a digger to find these coins. Any context was destroyed. Screw this guy.

Neil Welliver (American, 1929-2005) is best known for his large-scale, vivid paintings and woodcuts of the remote Maine wilderness. Born in the small town of Millville, Pennsylvania, he first studied at the Philadelphia College of Art (1953), followed by Yale (1955), where Josef Albers and Burgoyne Diller were among his teachers. Their influence, as well as the rising popularity of Abstract Expressionism, is evident from Welliver’s early experimentations in abstraction, which include elements of color field painting, as well as the color theory of Albers, and the flattened, “allover” space of Pollock and de Kooning.
Welliver would go on to teach at Yale from the mid-1950s to the mid-1960s, by which time he had moved formally towards the representational, beginning to paint the landscape of Maine. In the late 1960s and early 70s he also produced scenes of nude bathers in streams, their bodies abstracted by the moving water. While continuing to work as the chair of the University of Pennsylvania graduate school (1966-1989), he moved permanently to Lincolnville, Maine, in 1970. Welliver lost his studio, home, and much of his work to a fire in 1975. The following year, his second wife and infant daughter died. Further tragedy came with the death of his college aged son in 1991. His artistic practice remained the mode through which he survived these hardships.

NNEPRA has a page of projects they're working on in the Downeaster corridor and up into the rest of Maine - In particular, one that's caught my eye is a proposal for a few passenger runs a day between Brunswick and Rockland, timed to make connections with the Downeaster. There's a bus leaving from the Portland and Bangor stations that makes ten or so stops up and down the coast once a day, with connections to and from Boston on the bus (and, as the both have stops at the Portland Transportation Center and the Brunswick station, the Downeaster as a whole) and I know it gets particularly busy during the summer, so the proposed route has caught my eye - Apparently they're planning to do limited schedules this summer and fall for testing purposes. What are your thoughts? Personally, I'd love if they could stretch it just a little further north up to Camden/Rockport, maybe even to Lincolnville, as the former is one of the busier bus pickup/dropoff points, but either way additional service up the mid coast would be massively helpful for accessibility purposes, especially during tourist season.
I think buses are cool and running buses alongside the downeastern could really improve the route, especially after they lengthen it to Bangor
