L'exposition Staged bodies est consacrée aux nombreuses façons dont le corps est mis en scène dans la photographie artistique depuis 1970.Exposition. 16 octobre 2020 > 24 janvier 2021. 

(The Staged Bodies exhibition is devoted to the many ways the body has been depicted in artistic photography since 1970).  

STAGED BODIES expose de nombreuses façons dont le corps est mis en scène dans la photographie artistique depuis 1970. À cette époque, le traitement du corps se transforme radicalement : ce dernier n’est plus considéré comme une réalité close et stable. Il devient une surface de projection fluctuante permettant de renégocier des questions fondamentales liées à la représentation, à l’identité et à la relation entre les sexes. À ce passage d’un corps naturel et permanent vers un corps idéologiquement déterminé et remodelable, correspond, en photographie, l’abandon d’une approche documentaire en faveur d’une staged photography, une photographie mise en scène qui, au lieu de prétendre à la reproduction du réel, le théâtralise et le fictionnalise.

L’exposition s’articule autour de trois thématiques. La première partie, Double staged, telle une mise en abyme, part du constat qu’une image en cache toujours une autre. Ici, les images se réfèrent à d’autres représentations dont elles proposent la re-mise en scène. La deuxième, intitulée Performing gender, s’appuie sur l’idée que le genre n’est pas un fait naturel mais un processus historique et social. La troisième partie, Between Bodies, propose de s’interroger sur le corps collectif et social, c’est-à-dire le corps dans son interaction avec d’autres.
