Happy Pride Month: A queer game a day - 9th June DREAMFALL CHAPTERS
I will forever be in debt with @lairofsentinel for recommending me this trilogy. Dreamfall Chapters is technically the last installment of the trilogy, and the game with the most queer content, but if you can I would recommend playing all three these games:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(the rest of "Why you should play the Dreamfall videogames" here)
The first game is mainly puzzle/adventures, with almost a gradual shift to adventure towards the third game.
The trilogy (all three games!) have multiple queer secondary characters (notably a lesbian couple in the first game... which came out in 1999; other secondary characters through game 3)... and three main queer characters.
YES. THREE.
In all three games you play as given defined characters, in the first as April Ryan, in the second and third as Zoe Castillo and Kian Alvane, and in the third one also as Saga.
Kian is one of the player characters and a gay man. It is not subtle, homophobes cannot avoid it. Saga is also a pansexual woman. And then there is one of the main characters, Likho, also a gay man.

The whole story of the games itself is such a beautiful journey. I wish I could erase it from my mind so I could replay it.
Tumblr media
The game is also beautiful and the ending was quite satisfying (TO ME, a part from one small small thing...). How I cried at the end, it felt really like the end of a cycle. It is also one of those games that tormented me for hours and made me spend days analyzing the lore.

04. Terrible Luck 👁️‍🗨️
"Likho are said to be the embodiment of bad luck and misfortune in Slavic mythology. It's been often depicted as either a creature with one eye, an old, skinny woman in black (Лихо одноглазое, One-eyed Likho) or as an evil male goblin of forests. Likho are said to feed mainly on flesh & negative emotions. Some legends say it locks its victim’s positive emotions in a locket so that it can prey on their mentally weakened state & further feed on their despondency.
Likho is not its proper name, but a noun meaning bad luck in modern Ukrainian. "Не буди лихо, поки воно тихо" means 'Do not wake up the disaster while it is quiet', our equivalent of 'let sleeping dogs lie'."
Was inspired to draw my own interpretation of the Likho after seeing a piece by @/grzegorz_korniluk_art and hearing about them from Katia PavlovArt on YouTube!
🚩 If a Likho had its eye on you, how would you beat it?

Likho
Likho is an embodiment of evil fate and misfortune in Slavic mythology, a creature with one eye, often depicted as an old, skinny woman in black (Лихо одноглазое, One-eyed Likho) or as an evil male goblin of forests.

There are several basic versions of tales about how a person meets with Likho, with different morals of the tale.
A person eventually cheats Likho.
A person cheats Likho, runs away (with Likho chasing him), sees a valuable thing, grabs it out of greed, the person's hand sticks to it and they have to cut off their hand.
Likho cheats a person and rides on his neck. The person wants to drown Likho, jumps into a river, drowns himself, but Likho floats out, to chase other victims.
Likho is received or passed to another person with a gift.
Within the framework of superstitions, Likho was supposed to come and eat a person. In particular, this was used to scare small children. In Ukrainian folklore, it is sometimes portrayed as type of a bad spirit that can cling to one's neck.
Likho is not a real proper name, but a noun meaning bad luck in modern Ukrainian and the odd number in Polish (obsolete). Several proverbs utilize this term such as the "Не буди лихо, поки воно тихо" or the Russian "Не буди лихо, пока оно тихо", meaning "Don't wake likho while it is quiet", "let the sleeping dogs lie" and the Polish "Cicho! Licho nie śpi", translated as "Quiet! Evil does not sleep" and "Licho wie", literally "Licho [only] knows", used to mean that a given piece of information is known by no one. In old Russian, the root meant "excessive", "too much", "remaining" and "odd number" (contrasted with chetno in the chetno i likho game) with pejorative connotations, similar to the unlucky 'odd man out'. Compare to Russian lishniy – one in excess. The word is likely to be related to Indo-European leikw meaning something to remain, to leave. The derived adjective likhoy can be used to describe someone who is a bit too daring or brave. In Czech, lichý means odd (number), idle, vain. In Polish, lichy means shoddy, poor, flimsy. In Belarusian language, іхі means bad, evil (like in prayer), odd (side of clothing). In Ukrainian language, it is type of bad luck or incident.

The likho is a creature found in Slavic mythology and is believed to be the personification of evil and misfortune. There are various stories about this terrifying creature, usually ending with something bad happening to the person who encounters the likho. In some of these tales, there are valuable lessons that may be picked up by those who listen to them...

Six months into his career as a mercenary, Deadeye would take up an investigation job after catching wind of a rumor that the Shack Salvage corporation was running an illegal trafficking ring. With the aid of a rather resilient mouse known as Likho, the corporation is shut down for good and the captives are returned back to their homes and loved ones, safe and sound...all except Likho, who reveals he doesn't have much of a home anymore. The somber tone is lifted afterwards as Deadeye offers the newly freed Likho a place in his ship as his first crew member. Likho agrees, marking the birth of the Unpredictables. They may not know it yet, but they have just started one of the greatest mercenary crews the Olympus Colony will ever see...

When the world was young, it knew only seven things. And one of these was the length of an hour. Such a pity little Marya doesn’t know it. You had an hour to learn at my knee, and an hour, if I wish it, can be as long as all of spring. But the hour has chimed.

Spooky Demo Days - One-Eye Likho
It's September and that means SPOOKY GAMES. This week is a weird one. One-Eye Likho is an Interesting take on the horror puzzle genre. It does the spooky atmosphere really well with dead silence and wind blowing. I really liked it. #blog #indiegame
