Finished A Vow so Bold and Deadly by Brigid Kemmerer and all I have to say, I still ship Grey x Harper.

When Grey was so emotionless when Harper went to him for help after the whole Lilith thing, I was genuinely TWEAKING THE FUCK OUT.

The thing that annoyed me tho was when Lia Mara was jealous that Grey spoke softly to Harper when she was first found and she was like “I thought he only spoke to me that way!!”

Bae, she has a knife wound on her thigh, that WAS CLEARLY FUCKING INFECTED and not to mention that her ankle was sprained as well, oh and while riding for 5 FUCKING DAYS she did not STOP TO EAT OR SLEEP.

genuinely, shut the fuck up, my girl was NOT OKAY, Grey is already scary just bcs of the way Rhen treated him so he might see Harper as an enemy, is wearing enemy colors in Harper’s pov, and HES FUCKING ENORMOUS AND BUILT.

If he spoke harshly she would be spooked and running.

Be so fr, besides that one moment I actually liked Lia Mara. Idk, it just prickled a part in me.

Ultimately, until that part I was just no thoughts , just vibes

Oh and Grey’s character development? SPLENDID

A dangerous LETHAL skilled vicious cold-blooded assassin able to fight after LITERALLY being torn to shreds. An assessing shadow following orders solely being the blade wielded by his master UNQUESTIONABLY

But also a gentle thoughtful loyal precious bun who makes silly faces at kids with a dark sense of humor and laughs and grins only in secret who will LAY DOWN his life for the people he cares for meanwhile being cautious NOT CARING because everyone he has ever loved has been killed/tortured against him including his baby siblings and mother who he left SPECIFICALLY to protect them

Which is why this devoted GEM keeps feelings hidden with a quiet subtle demeanour going from warm comfortable loving to steely unfeeling merciless in less of a SECOND

I never knew how BAD I NEEDED a character like Grey before this book. HE DESEVERES EVERYTHING HIS HEART DESIRES I LOVE HIM SO MUCH

Review: “A Heart So Fierce and Broken” by Brigid Kemmerer

⭐ ⭐ ⭐  of 5 stars

!!!SPOILER WARNING!!!

I really, really wanted to like this book as it was one of my most anticipated reads of 2020. I absolutely looooooved “A Curse So Dark and Lonely” and bought the second book the very second I finished the first one, as I just had to find out what the hell happended with Rhen, Harper and everyone. 

Unfortunately this book - at least in my opinion - completely ruined everything which I enjoyed about the first book. 

For one, I think the book was kind of unnecessary. I’ll admit that it’s important to establish the relationship between Grey and Lia Mara in order to proceed to the third book - the same goes for Grey changeing his mind on whether or not to challenge Rhen for the throne - but still. It completely disregards the first book and everything the characters went through especially in regard to Rhen’s transformation from “the bad guy” to “the good guy”, as well as the relationship between Grey and Harper. 

Second, every single side character has apparently been run over by a steamroller and has ended up as one-dimensional as possible. Even though I thought Jake to be quite an ass in the first book, I appreciated how both he and Noah were well rounded characters instead of just your average stereotypical side character. In the second book however, both Jake, Noah, Tycho and Iisak have been reduced to boring background noise completey devoid of any and all personality. 

Thirdly, I don’t think I have ever read a book in which a character manages to blush as often as Lia Mara. I may be the only one, but seriously, HOW CAN SHE BLUSH ON EVERY PAGE? It seems that every time someone talks to her, looks at her or even stands in her near proximity, she starts to either blush or cry. Call me synical, but when a character starts to blush or cry at every little inconvenience, they start to get on my nerves. 

All in all, this book really dissapointed me even though the first one was (and still is) one of my favourite books. I just hope the third book will be better and hopefully switch back to Rhen and Harper’s POV.

When Lia Mara said that 'I’ve spent so much time worrying about how my actions would be perceived that I’ve forgotten to pay attention to what actions would be best.'

I felt it so hard. Sometimes we end up doing things that are considered right in society's eyes but not in our own. I love how she casually portrayed that.
