Sammen by @empresstress13
I thought this would be a good opportunity to continue working on Sammen’s voice, so I went ahead and answered these questions interview-style instead of bold/unbolding them. Questions in italic, Sammen’s response in regular text.
1). go apple picking vs. go on a hay ride What does a hayride get you? Itchy and an hour long view of a horse’s ass. Apples get you an afternoon of sunshine and fruit all winter.
2). scary vs. sweet What does this question even mean? Going about some forgotten ruin being chased about by some unspeakable horror with a sword too big to be practical or a nice slice of cake? Who thinks this is even a question??? ....Of course being chased about means you’d have an awfully good story for the tavern and a sack full of treasure-with which cake might be purchase.... Hmmm. Maybe this question is trickier than I thought....
3). sweaters vs. boots I’m Fereldan. Boots.
4). socks vs. mittens Socks are far more versatile. You need them in the summer and the autumn. And the winter. And the spring. Plus, if you have enough socks, you can wear them on your hands. You can’t wear mittens on your feet.
5). bonfires vs. football Bonfires, of course. Bring my drum, set up a bowl, go home with a nice jingle in my pocket. Football someone else is already doing all the performing.
6). trick-or-treating vs. watch scary movies I have two words for you: Free. Candy.
9). bake pie vs. bake cookies Myself, I like a good pie. Have to do something with all those apples we picked earlier.
10). rain vs. fog yish....neither, really. Rain keeps people off the streets so I can’t perform and fog keeps ships away from the docks so I can’t work. I suppose if I have to pick, I can at least work the docks in the rain. Even if the rain makes it blasted dangerous.
11). black cats vs. owls Da used to have a cat. Big old orange tabby that kept his lap warm in the winter. Still caught rats even though it didn’t have any teeth. Wouldn’t be bad to have another one.
12). ghosts vs. wizards Well...I might have a bit of a soft spot for certain wizards...although I’m fairly certain they might prefer being called mage...
13). harry potter vs. halloweentown This is blatant Lord of the Rings erasure and I will not stand for it.
14). go hiking vs. sleep in If I wake up alone, hiking. If I wake up with someone to snuggle with, sleeping in.
15). cinnamon vs. nutmeg You need both to make anything halfway decent.
16). reading vs. writing Reading, I suppose. So long as it’s a very short letter and the light is good.
17). hot chocolate vs. tea Listen, the Iron Bull gave me some of his hot chocolate stuff and it’s a real strategic misstep on the part of the Qunari to think they have to use swords to convert Thedas to the Qun when bribing most people with this stuff will do. They could gain far more influence in trade and commerce with it than they ever could on the battlefield.
18). live in a cabin in a forest vs. have it be fall 24/7 If it was fall all the time, when would we plant crops? Or harvest? Sure the trees would be pretty, but eventually everyone is gonna starve to death. I don’t think this question was well thought through. My own house, of course.
19). Candy apples vs. caramel apples Caramel.
20). blankets vs. pillows Blankets are far more versatile than pillows. They can be blankets, cloaks, curtains, carrying packs, and when sufficiently balled up, pillows.
21). roasted marshmallows vs. roasted chestnuts Orleasian candy is too expensive to risk burning. I’ll go with chestnuts.
22). coffee vs. apple cider Cider. WITH cinnamon and nutmeg thankyouverymuch.
23). red leaves vs. orange leaves Orange I suppose, although I really have no preference here.
24). braids vs. bows Did you know there’s this one sort of night shirt that’s all held on by this one bow so you sort of just...give it a little tug and the shirt just falls completely off? Yeah. Bows.
25). scented candles vs. the smell of fresh baked goods Scented candles are lies. They smell all good and delicious, but do you get to eat anything? No. What use is the whole place smelling like fresh baked cookies if you don’t actually get to eat fresh baked cookies?
26). carve pumpkins vs. make pumpkin pie Ward off evil spirits or pie? That is actually a hard question. Carve pumpkins, I think.
27). pumpkin spice lattes vs. chai tea lattes This entirely depends on what I’m in the mood for. Although right now, I’m feeling fairly pumpkin spicey.
28). coats vs. oversized sweaters Oversized sweaters are like a hug you can wear.
29). beanies vs. berets Obviously you’ve never had a bitter wind bite at your ear-tips. Any elf who values their points chooses beanies.
30). candy corn vs. peanut butter cups I am an absolute monster for those little cup things.
32). jump in a pile of leaves vs. swing on a tire Can’t you just....swing anytime? Since this is an autumn themed questionnaire, I’ll stick with the autumn theme and say jump in a pile of leaves.
33). corn maze vs. haunted house Corn maze. I’m not the sort who likes to be scared for fun. Plenty of not-fun things to be scared by.
34). bob for apples vs. visit a pumpkin patch Bob for apples, but only because I am the best at it there ever was.
35). whipped cream on hot chocolate vs. marshmallows on hot chocolate Orleasian candy may be too expensive to burn, but it is NOT too expensive to float on top of a mug of cocoa like kisses from Andraste herself.
tagging: I find these sorts of things a way to warm up for writing, so I’m gonna tag anyone who’s got some procrastination issues on their fiction. If you feel so inclined or inspired ♥

Peeking at the Asian fights on this UFC Singapore card
Killing time, really:
Daichi Abe (Japan, +240) vs Li Jingliang (China, -280)
At this point I think it's fair to say that "The Leech" is what he is. He's a really strong really sticky kind of grappler who hits really hard, has good enough cardio and good enough overall skills to be successful. In his last fight vs Jake Matthews, he was both the good AND bad version of Li Jingliang. He started the first slow as he usually does and was rocked by Jake Matthews who came out on a mission from God seemingly. Once the fight turned into more of a brawl, Li had more success although he was still dropped and almost choked out. What makes this fight interesting is not Li but Daichi Abe, a guy who on paper has all of the tools to really win this fight. For starters, Li Jingliang's march ahead mauler brawler style only works if he has a dude who doesn't hit hard enough to make him reconsider it or has the grappling chops to make him pay for his overaggressive style. I don't know if Abe has the latter but through two UFC fights, I know dude can hit and hit hard. He put Hyun Gyu Lim on his ass twice and had Luke Jumeau in all sorts of trouble before what felt like a combo of poor cardio, poor fight IQ and poor pacing got the better of him. This fight has all the makings of one of those wild scrappy Fight Pass wars people might inevitably forget about when it comes to FOTYC but it should be damn fun. I think Abe has a tremendous chance to pull this one off too.
Teruto Ishihara (Japan, +385) vs Petr Yan
Wooof. The UFC thought they stumbled onto something with Ishihara who has the wacky personality and the hard hitting style that on paper at least makes for a fun TV draw. Then it all sort of fell apart for him and in pretty rough fashion. He simply got Prospect'd vs Artem Lobov in a fight where his one shot knockout power was stifled by Lobov's frequent offense. That was followed up with a truly brutal loss vs Gray Maynard where he looked out of his depth and out of his element vs a dude who is probably far passed it at this point. Since the Maynard loss he's won one over Rolando Dy and lost to Jose Quinones in a close enough fight.  As long as Ishihara continues to hit as hard as just about any 135er alive, he'll be a guy who fans will want to at least hope for the best on. The problem is Petr Yan is really good and while I'm not 100% sold on him as a future star, he's probably a lot better than Teruto. That said Yan DOES put himself into bad spots on defense and Ishihara hits hard.
Song Yadong (China, -122) vs Felipe Arantes
Well I gotta admit those odds have me confused. Going JUST off of SOng Yadong's win, I get it PARTIALLY. He blew out Barat Khandere and while a cynic will say "Well look he's not good", I'd just shrug and say a win is a win. The reality though is Felipe Arantes is a solid enough fighter to where I just don't get the odds given the resumes involved. Song Yadong is 2-3 vs fighters with over 10 fights in their pro careers and yes, I am aware that he was basically a teenager in some of those fights. That only furthers the point that dude is probably more likely to disappoint than overperform his age and experience level. Arantes has fought Josh Emmett, Erik Perez, Maximo Blanco and Godofredo Pepey off the top of my head. This just seems like an overly risky fight for a very young talent like Yadong.
Rolando Dy (Philippines, +140) vs Shane Young
I mean.....sure? Rolando Dy and Shane Young may be objectively speaking the worst fighters at 145. It doesn't mean that they can't have a good fight or that they can't maybe have long successful careers but honestly? Yeah, nah. Dy vs Young is such a filler fight that I really have a hard time drumming up a level of excitement about it. My only hope is that Dy opens the door for more fighters out of the Philippines to find a home in the UFC.
Song Kenan (China, -275) vs Hector Aldana
This is interesting. Song Kenan blew out a dude who was able to give Danny Roberts and Li Jingliang trouble in his previous two fights. He came into the UFC off of two losses and there was plenty of questions about whether Kenan was actually UFC caliber. He may not be---but I have a good feeling even after watching him on TUF LAM that Hector Aldana is not. It's not Aldana has been super busy either, since TUF LAM 2 he has----done nothing. Not a single fight. That was in 2015 in an exhibition setting. His last real fight was in 2013. There's just no reason Aldana should be here but to put Song over.
Shinsho Anzai (Japan, +375) vs Jake Matthews
Shinsho Anzai is one of those fighters who just fails to register despite being successful. Just a thick bodied muscled up guy who lives and dies in the clinch, often times engaging in a brawl when there's space. He has a win over Luke Jumeau who beat Daichi Abe so we're just all circling one another here I guess. The key to this fight is that Matthews really does struggle with pressure, especially if it's backed by body kicks and a commitment to getting in on him and smothering his boxing.  I just don't know if Anzai is that kind of guy. I get the feeling this will look like Matthews vs Jingliang except with a far less durable wildman.
Yan Xiaonan (China, +145) vs Viviane Pereira
This is a weird-ish fight to get a grasp on. The oddsmakers suggests Yan is not THAT far behind Viviane but I've seen Pereira box up and outwork really good strawweights before. Yan has this brutish power to her and also has this style that lends some credence to winning close fights (I truly believe the women who do the YISH YISH! which each strike will more often than not come off as more active to judges). I just think Pereira is way better though.
Naoki Inoue (Japan, -180) vs Matt Schnell
Naoki Inoue is a really unique fighter who probably deserves to be the favorite. Even if Schnell has the better experience factor (and Inoue has fought trash for the most part), there's a special air of talent as it pertains to Inoue. Good enough to beat Schnell? I'm not entirely sure. Schnell's UFC run thus far hasn't been pretty and he's really beatable but the competition level suggests he's got a serious shot. The grappling exchanges here might be a lot of fun.
Jenel Lausa (Philippines, +235) vs Ulka Sasaki (Japan, -275)
Sorry Jenel, there's just no way you should win this. To this point Lausa has shown a little bit of everything but nothing to get him over the hump vs a good flyweight in Sasaki. Unless Sasaki leaves his neck out for something or gets caught with a fluke shot, he SHOULD win this and fairly quickly.
Melinda Fabian vs Ji Yeon Kim
I really like Ji Yeon Kim, primarily her commitment to kicks and striking at range. Her grappling, pacing and cardio are just not up to the par necessary to be a big time player BUT Melinda Fabian is sort of middle of the row at the weight class. Fabian does hit hard and if she gets someone against the fence, she more often than not can hurt them. Should be a fine opener!

EPISODE 28
(AKA WU XIE BECOMES A MERMAID, AND GETS HIS LIFE SHORTENED AGAIN. SERIOUSLY WHERE IN THE WORLD IS XIAO-GE? WU XIE IS DOING STUPID SHIT WITHOUT HIM AROUND)
IT’S ONLY 4 MINUTES IN AND I’M ALREADY SEEING DEAD PEOPLE. ChongQi give me a break. I don’t want to see dead people, especially dead girls in a circle UNDER THE SEA. Their chests seemed to be embedded with some kind of pearl though? What is that all about? It’s damn creepy to see them hang by the noose around their neck while floating in the water.
And also, the dead body’s clothes hooking onto Wu Xie is so creepy? Wtf? Wu Xie is convinced that Xiao Bai is the one sending him messages to attract him to the Warehouse 11, and demands that she stops the pretense. He doesn’t care about whether she lied or not, just that she sends whatever information that is left to him. Xiao Bai denies it and tries to tell him it wasn’t her but it’s not working. Wu Xie then ordered her to give him her phone, and she resists, leading to him forcefully getting it out of her. This led to an unplanned confession from Xiao Bai, and she says that her helping him is because “我喜欢你”. Wu Xie is still sceptical, until she claims that she will find out the truth for him. And at that point, Wu Xie knows he fucked up big time man. Honestly, this setting is a little weird for a confession, and I also kind of suspected that it was her? Well we’ll see how things turn out in the end.
Also, creepy ritual lady from previous episode that I didn’t take note dripped some water (or some kind of substance on Wu Xie? What the heck lady?). Why are you doing this?
While searching for evidence, Xiao-Bai finds out something about Cheng dude, and the investigator being the Manager, but before she could inform Wu Xie, she gets knocked out by some dude which I suspect in the Manager himself.
Meanwhile, Wu Xie is at home in a cute hoodie and holding a pillow to his chest, feeling perturbed by the earlier events with Xiao-Bai. (ZYL looks so cute here holy shit) He says he is so much older than her, and that her feelings are novel and fleeting, so she might not be aware of how she is really feeling. Unexpectedly, Pangzi gave pretty good advice on how to handle a young girl’s heart. He even adds “小哥年纪比你大,但也一样陪你玩。” SO YES PingXie please. WHICH REMINDS ME WHERE IN THE WORLD IN XIAO-GE ZHANG QILING??? He’s been MIA for the past 8 episodes hello? The photo that Liu Sang took and posted on his Weibo does not count.
And the scene where Wu Xie realises that all the noise that Pangzi made while mincing the pork to cook was for Piaopiao and not him, and he just throws his meatballs up in the air in disappointment and left? Classic. Scoffed so hard at that part.
(I’m skipping the whole Pangzi and Piaopiao part. I honestly have no idea what her character is like? She begs for Pangzi for money, and when he doesn’t have it, she just leaves??? What?)
And holy shit. The asshole that kicked Wu Xie 9 episodes ago finally got what he deserves. He got drained or stabbed with blood by the subordinate (Lee Jiale) that attempted suicide (with the help of the Manager of course). The Manager is a sly piece of shit. But the asshole deserved it. He instigated his attempt suicide afterall.
Omg whose room is Wu Xie investigating?? And the water that the ritual lady dripped on him is making him itch?? Holy shit. Why did Jiale came specially to find him to tell him the asshole is dying because of he attempted suicide?
Holy shit. Wu Xie’s hand nearly got chopped off too. The Second Level is weird as fuck I swear. Who invented prickly lockers for them to take the goods? And he almost fell out the fucking metal chain while crossing it too. Honestly, Wu Xie has no self-preservation instincts, or the world is out to get him.
He’s coughing a lot more after the water from the ritual lady and the itch? Oh my god. HE’S COUGHING OUT BLOOD HOLY NO. When Pangzi said “你发工资了吗?能不能把钱都给我这回。你就为兄弟吐点血。” AND WU XIE LITERALLY VOMITTED BLOOD. OH he found out about the weird water  AND IT’S FORMING BLISTERS ON THE BACK OF HIS NECK GOD. OH it makes sense it’s poison that worsened his lung cancer, BUT OH MY GOD STOP MAKING HIS LIFESPAN SHORTENED!!! And it just ends with Wu Xie deducing that the mastermind is nearby and he will find out about them soon. I am seriously suspecting the Manager. 10/10.
God this episode is just full of question marks. I am confused in a good way? But I’m probably not doing me typing out my reaction while watching the episode ever again since it ruins the pacing of story for me.
Yish Wu Xie I swear if the last episode of this season ends with him just blacking out or “dying” because his “time is up”, I’ll riot and cry and riot and cry. STOP MAKING WU XIE DIE FASTER!!!
