Chapter XII - Company dinner

word count: 3k words

Since your mother-in-law was spending time with Haru, you took the time you needed to relax, sleep in the afternoon, pack for the trip, then get ready for the dinner party.

It was the first time in a while when you went out, and you were really in need of socialising face-to-face with some adults.

You picked a knee-length dress and some black thighs, and you felt a bit self-conscious of your stomach that still didn't completely disappear after giving birth, but chose to ignore it and just go out and have fun.

"Ready?" Minho smiled at you. "You're really beautiful!"

"Thank you!" You smiled back. "You don't look too bad yourself."

He was wearing a casual black suit, and he looked like a model, as usual. His shirt had one too many opened buttons, and you took a peek at his chest shamelessly.

The ride to their company wasn't too long, and as soon as you arrived and Minho took you to one of the rooms upstairs. You were glad to see that the boys were already there.

"Da-Eun! I missed you sooooo much!" Taemin hugged you tightly, and you sat down next to him.

Onew waved at you over the table and mouthed a "Hey, beautiful", making you smile.

The drinks were pouring as you and Taemin were playing a funny would you rather game that consisted of dilemmas. You found a Facebook page about it and knew he would most definitely love it, but you didn't want to send it to him, even if you messaged almost daily.

Your messages mostly consisted of him sending pictures of his cat or food, and you sending back Haru's cute sleeping poses and little toes.

Well, you only sent toes once, actually, because Taemin shocked you by sending back a picture of his feet as well, so you figured that whatever you sent, he'd send back. This was indeed a weird power to have.

"So, the next one says: 'There's always a fog in your house' OR 'There is moss growing on your bed'. What would you choose?" You asked him, laughing.

"Would a moss bed be comfortable?" He contemplated, supporting his chin on his fist.

"To be honest, having fog in the house would be pretty fun. Like a concert or something." Jinki answered, making you raise your gaze and look at him. He must've been bored out of his mind to participate in your silly game.

You saw something in the eyes of the girl next to him, who was sitting directly in front of Minho, and you wondered if it was just your imagination. Why would she look annoyed at you?

You didn't pay it much mind at first.

"I think I'll go with moss." Taemin replied after careful consideration.

"I'm definitely picking the fog." Jinki laughed. "I mean, think about it, it's pretty cool."

"How's that cool? What if you can't see where you're walking?" Taemin scoffed.

"Or like, if you burn something up while cooking. Would it be fog, or smoke?" You added.

"Woah, you're thinking far!" Jinki exclaimed.

"What about you, Da-Eun?" Taemin asked. "Settle the debate."

"Hmmm. Depends how thick the fog is, but I'm not sure I'd like sleeping on moss."

"Come on, it would be fluffy!"

"You do have a point." You chuckled.

"So, you're on team Taemin then, or are you joining the dark side?" Jinki asked you with a grin.

"The fog side-" Taemin started.

"I'm team Fog." You shrugged.

"That means it's 2 vs 1, so we won." Jinki boasted.

"No way! Not fair. Minhooooo!" He shouted, but he didn't hear Taemin at first, being immersed in a conversation with the woman in front of him. You softly bumped your elbow into his side, making him give you attention.

"Yea?" He smiled. "Sorry Ji-an, just a sec." He excused himself and turned to the three of you. The girl rolled her eyes.

"We are having an intense debate," you explained, deciding to ignore what you just saw, "and wanted another opinion."

"Let's hear it."

"So, would you rather sleep on a bed where moss is always growing, or would you rather have fog in our house at all times?"

"Well, I can always cover moss with bed sheets." He shrugged. "So I guess moss is better."

"See?!" Taemin grinned. "Moss is the obvious choice."

"What idiots would pick the fog?" The girl next to Jinki and in front of Minho, who he was just talking to a moment ago – Ji-an, if you understood correctly, who rolled your eyes at you talking to your husband – intervened.

"Guess we're idiots." Jinki shook his head and looked at you.

"No, we're definitely smarter." You replied serious. "Minho, look-" You now turned completely to him, and his eyes stayed fixed on yours as you explained your rationing.

"Even if you cover the moss with bed sheets, moss means there's a lot of humidity. The bed sheets would always be damp and uncomfortable, and who knows, you might even have fog, since fog is normally formed where it's humid. The room would definitely be humid-"

"Yea, Minho! You can't pick moss and force Da-Eun to sleep on a damp bed! Ew." Jinki exclaimed, referencing the fact that you two are married so you probably sleep together.

That felt like a rock fell on your head, because you've never slept next to Minho, not even last night, when he didn't bother returning to the bed. Jinki's words made you over analyse. Minho was your husband, why did you never sleep next to him? Did he even like you romantically, or was he just caught up in the moment last night? You definitely started to have a thing for him. Heck, you sucked his dick and masturbated to the thoughts of him moaning your name.

Your gaze moved again around the table, and you saw Ji-an's cold eyes on you again, as Minho captured your hand and spoke. "You're right, you're right. I'll pick fog as well if my dear wife picked it." He tapped on your hand a few times soothingly, then resumed his conversation with the girl in front of him.

"Okay, let's just move on." Taemin waved his hand around. "You've cheated, Da-Eun!"

"I didn't! Oh God! Okay, the next one says: 'every time someone tries to sell you a membership, you say yes', or 'every time you want to dance, the music stops'. What would it be?"

"That's kinda unfair." Onew remarked. "We wouldn't be able to do our job if we picked the second option."

"We can just sing, though?!" Taemin exclaimed.

"Yea, imagine singing the instrumental parts." You laughed.

"Having to get every membership is a bit much, though." Jinki thought.

"I don't know how to dance, but imagine like going to the club with friends and the music stops everytime you move."

"Or at a concert. Fans would be so shocked!" Taemin burst out laughing.

"Do we all agree that the membership is the lesser devil?"

All the three of you nodded.

"Hey, I'm gonna go get some air, I'll be back in a bit." Minho whispered in your ear, and you just nodded, getting back to playing with the guys.

"Just a question before we start again. What's with that girl? Maybe it's in my head, but it feels like she's been throwing daggers at me the whole evening." You asked, chuckling nervously, as soon as you noticed Ji-an getting up from her seat and leaving the table as well, following Minho.

"Oh, it's definitely not in your head." Taemin laughed.

"Yea, she and Minho had a thing a while back, but they broke it off due to very little time to see each other." Jinki clarified.

"She definitely still has a thing for him."

"Oh." Was all you could reply, while you let the information sink in. "Anyways, let's get back to our game. Next one is: 'every week, you have to send a detailed report of your week to your friends'-"

"Taemin already does that." Jinki laughed.

"OR 'you can flush the toilet only once a day'." You continued, ignoring the interruption.

"I don't send you detailed reports! There's so much more I could send!"

"Like what? At this point, I swear you're even texting me when you go to the bathroom."

"No, I'm not!" Taemin defended himself, and you raised a questioning brow.

He scoffed, and seeing the gaze you and Jinki threw at him, he finally admitted. "Okay, I am. I guess I'll pick this one since I'm already doing it!" He laughed. You loved Taemin's energy so much.

You continued playing for a while, the three of you having a lot of fun and getting drunker with each passing minute as you downed the 7th bottle of Soju together.

While Taemin contemplated on the answer to your latest question, you noticed it's been a while since Minho left the table. Ji-an wasn't back either.

"I'm gonna go to the bathroom. Wait for me." You declared, while standing up with resolve. On your way to the bathroom, you turned a corner and saw Minho and Ji-an in a pretty compromising position. She was holding his collar, while his hands were on her wrists, but you couldn't tell if he was pushing her away or keeping her close.

You considered turning around and giving them privacy, but there was a sinking feeling in your stomach, and you didn't know if you actually wanted to give them any more privacy.

Minho was your husband.

Why should you let other women touch him?

If that's what he wants, he should tell you and you should just get divorced, then.

You shrugged and started walking towards them, slowly. They didn't notice you at first, so you overheard bits of their conversation.

"Look, I'm sure we could make this work. After I heard you got married-"

"Please let go." Minho replied with a sigh. "I really don't want to do this here."

"Let's go back to my place, then?" She asked, hopeful.

"Ji-an, that's not what I meant." He sounded tired. "I obviously don't want to get back together, I have a family-"

"A fake one." She intervened and tried pulling him closer by the collar, but he didn't budge.

You got fairly close to them, and as soon as he saw you, Minho's eyes grew wide.

"Sorry to interrupt." You showed them a smile that didn't reach your eyes.

"Da-Eun, I swear it's not what it looks like-" He pushed Ji-an's hands away and turned to you. "I didn't-"

"Come on, Minho, stop pretending! I know you still have feelings for me too!"

"We broke up ages ago, Ji-an..." He frowned.

"Bullshit! What, don't you think I know that you two don't love each other?" She shouted and looked at you, as if threatening you.

Ji-an was beautiful, undoubtedly so. You understood that Minho might have had a thing for her in the past. But you were his wife.

Why should you cower in front of her and let her disrespect your relationship like this, with no shame whatsoever?

"Look," you started calmly. "I don't care what was between you." You grabbed Minho's left hand and noticed the gold ring on his finger. Ever since you told him you liked seeing him wear it, he never took it off.

That gave you courage.

"But we are a family, and we have a child to raise, so I will say this respectfully only once: leave my husband alone. Yea? The past is the past." You continued smiling fakely, and Minho held your hand tighter.

"I won't have it. You're just taking advantage, having everything handed to you on a silver plate, and you preach 'family'?! Minho is just a cosy blanket for you to fall on, while he is my whole world!" She continued. This was a personal vendetta against you.

"Why did you break up, then?" You shrugged. "But you're right about that. He does hand me everything on a silver platter." You looked at him, noticing Minho's worried gaze on yours. "But you know what? That's not a problem, because... I'm willing to give him back a golden one instead." You glanced into his eyes, confessing the feelings you've been harbouring for a while now.

Going to therapy helped you understand that you shouldn't feel guilty for feeling love for someone else. You could start loving Minho while still being in love with Kibum and his memory, and that was okay. It took you a while to comprehend this, so you were glad you brought it up in therapy three months ago. It gave you plenty of time to adjust to the feeling growing in your chest and the happiness you felt whenever he was around you.

"You're such a whore, you know that? Your boyfriend died not even a year ago, and you already want someone else?!" She mocked you, but her words didn't even registered. They were empty, like all those comments you've been reading on the internet. "And the thing you said earlier about the child, you really think he could ever love some other man's baby?!" she pushed your buttons, but you didn't have to say anything in response, because Minho started ripping her ear off about how disrespectful she was. He seemed sick of staying silent and didn't want you to go through this battle alone, since it wasn't even your battle to begin with.

It was his fault that things escalated to this point.

"That was the dumbest shit you've ever said." Minho replied coldly. "Who are you to tell me who I can and cannot love?! Who do you think you are to speak like that about Da-eun when you don't even know her?!"

"Minho, I didn't-"

"Don't ever say something like that about my wife or my baby again. About me? Go and bullshit all you want. But don't you dare say that ever again about them, Ji-an. Got it?"

"But-"

"Got it?!" He repeated harshly.

Her face dropped as she realised that she said the wrong things. Minho continued on and on about how inappropriate she's been, he let her know there was never going to be anything between them again, and she should just leave the two of you be and stop trying to get between you, especially when it came to things she knows nothing about.

You were truly happy that he stuck to your side, and his hand tightly holding yours as you started to walk away from Ji-an amplified that growing love in your heart a million times.

Still, you unloaded all these feelings on Minho without actually knowing how he felt about you, so as you were walking through the hallways, you saw the door to the stairs and decided to suggest a small detour.

You nudged Minho towards the stairs, and as soon as you passed through the door, you looked at him.

"Da-Eun, I'm so sorry..." He started. "That was Ji-an, my ex-girlfriend. We dated for a while before... but you know I was away for a year during filming. We broke up, and I haven't spoken to her since, I swear."

"Minho, you don't have to explain." You shook your head. "There's nothing to apologise for, and I'm not mad at you."

"You aren't?"

"Why would I be?" You tilted your head with a frown.

"The way she was touching me... I would be upset if another man held you like this." He replied and grabbed your wrists, placing your hands on his neck, similar to the position he was in earlier with Ji-an. "She grabbed me, and I didn't want to outright smack her hands away, although I should have... I was just taken aback."

"That's okay."

"I'm serious!" He added, almost desperate.

"I appreciate you telling her off when she spoke like that about me and Haru."

"Of course. It's the truth. We are a family." He affirmed, and damn was it hard to not kiss him right then and there.

But you had to find out something first. To hear it from him.

"Minho, I... I need to know something." You glanced into his eyes, and you realised how much you loved how sparkling and alive they looked.

"Anything."

"But I'm fairly intoxicated, so bear with me."

"That's fine." He chuckled.

"I need to know where I stand. I mean, I prefer being rejected than being confused, so... Uhm, I'm having feelings for you, so if you don't feel the same way, please do me a favour, and reject me loud and clear-" You said, but before you managed to finish your rambling, Minho was already capturing your lips with his in a fevered kiss. Your hands moved to his nape as he started pushing you against the wall, and you couldn't get enough of his raw passion.

When your tongues made contact, you felt euphoric. You couldn't taste him enough. You wanted him closer, you needed him, but it was not the time, nor the place to have such an intimate encounter. The steps and voices that you started hearing from above told you as much, so, much to your dismay, Minho broke off the kiss and glanced into your eyes instead.

"I like you so much, Da-Eun. You have no idea."

The voices were getting closer.

"You are simply breathtaking. I can't get enough of you." He continued in a whisper, and despite your bodies creating distance, his eyes told you that he wanted you as much as you wanted him.

"Hey, if it's not Choi Minho!" A man you didn't recognise greeted him. Next to him was a woman that looked around your age. "And this must be your beautiful wife, right?" He continued, looking at you. You were sure your cheeks were flushed with embarrassment, so you just hoped the make-up was enough to cover it.

"Hey! Yes, this is Da-Eun. Love, these are our stylists, ..."

You continued chatting for a while before the pair excused themselves, and you decided to head back home as well. After you greeted Taemin and Onew goodbye, you hopped in your car and went to the apartment to rest before departing in the morning.

Onew:

A pair of arms wrapped around your waist, taking you by surprise as you flew in the air. “We did it,” Jinki chuckled from behind you.

Once you were back on the ground, you spun around to meet his eyes. “You’re definitely back,” you grinned, pressing a kiss against his lips.

His head nodded back at you, “I can’t believe we won, there’s so many amazing artists there today.”

“But none of them are SHINee!”

“That’s true,” he blushed.

Your eyes looked down to notice Jinki holding the trophy tightly in his hand. “I bet it feels strange to be holding one of them again after so many years, all the designs have changed.”

His head shook, smiling across at you, “it actually just feels like I’ve never let the trophy go, does that even make any sense?”

“I get it,” you quickly assured him, “performing and winning is all you’ve ever really known, it’s bound to feel natural.”

His eyes flickered down to the trophy too, “I guess right now I’m just really thankful that the fans haven’t forgotten about us.”

“If there’s one thing I’ve learnt about SHINee, it’s that you’re very much unforgettable!”

Key:

His eyes lit up as soon as he walked towards you, keeping the trophy behind his back as you approached him. “It’s my trophy!”

Your eyes rolled, trying to reach around his back to hold it, but Kibum kept it well hidden. “I just want to have a look; I’m not going to steal it.”

His head shook with a wide smile back at you, “it’s our first one in a while, so I’m keeping it safe.”

“You want it all to yourself then?”

“Well…” he stuttered.

Your head shook, pushing gently against his arm, “someone will eventually realise that the trophy has gone missing, and you’re terrible at keeping a straight face, you’ll give the game away.”

“How dare you think so lowly of me,” he groaned, turning away from your gaze. “I was going to ask you to help me hide it, but I think I’ve changed my mind.”

“Kibum, this is a group trophy,” you scolded, “you can’t keep it for yourself and not tell the rest of the boys you’ve taken it.”

His eyebrows raised back at you, “if it wasn’t for my ending fairies then I don’t think we would have won, so I deserve this more than anyone.”

“Sure, it was your ending fairies that somehow managed to get you the win…”

Minho:

Your eyes scanned around the room, noticing Minho sat down in the corner of the dressing room by himself. “You alright?” You asked.

His eyes looked up as soon as you approached him and took a seat beside him. “It’s just a little overwhelming right now to be back.2

Your hand rested gently against his thigh, “it’s been a slight crazy couple of months with coming back.”

“It still feels like I’m in the military sometimes.”

“That’s natural,” you assured.

His head tilted down to rest against his shoulder, “you see so many groups that come back from the military and things aren’t the same, and yet for us, it just feels like nothing has changed.”

“That should tell you how incredible you are,” you tried to comfort him, “your fans have stuck around for a reason Minho.”

His head nodded at your words, “I never imagined that so quickly after discharge all of this would happen, and we’d do so well.”

“It was never in doubt for me,” you chuckled, brushing your hand through his red hair, “I always knew that you guys would smash it.”

“I don’t think I’d be able to be where I am if it wasn’t for your support.”

Taemin:

You could hear a heavy sigh come from him as soon as he slung his arms around your shoulders. “It’s nice to be able to win as a group again.”

Your head nodded in agreement, scanning around the busy dressing room once again. “It’s nice to see all four of you back on the stage and winning.”

His lips pressed to the top of your head, “it’s a lot less lonely doing an encore with them around too.”

“It’s probably a lot more chaotic though.”

“It is,” he laughed.

Your eyes flickered up to meet his, brushing his hair away from his face, “I can see how happy you are to be back with the group again, I know how much this all means to you as well.”

“Going solo was always my dream,” he mused, “but SHINee is my roots, to still be going after all this time means the world.”

Your smile grew as his eyes drifted across to look at the Music Bank trophy. “How many of them do you reckon you’ll end up with?”

“I don’t care how many we end up with, just being able to release music again is enough,” he spoke up, “we’re doing all of this for the fans.”

“And as a fan, let me tell you, we’re all pleased that SHINee is back once again.”

Relationship with: SM artists

For JiHo’s relationship with NCT check out the pinned post on my blog. By no means are these all SM artists or is this very detailed and my knowledge in some of these groups is also very limited so please bear with me. If I wrongly represent anyone now or in the future feel free to let me know, but keep in mind all of this is purely fictional.

Super Junior:

Oh dear Lord help poor JiHo

She’s the victim of endless teasing from Super Junior

Since JiHo is pretty sociable she got quite comfortable with SuJu

They might not hang out a lot but whenever they see the girl they’ll approach her to at least greet her (and vice versa, of course)

SuJu also love to bring JiHo up during variety shows to tell a funny episode they had with the girl and “expose” her

Eunhyuk is a bit like an older brother to her, during her trainee days she once walked up to him asking him if he could critique her dancing. He was surprised at how bold she was and could only agree with her because she was so intriguing. He thought JiHo was a great dancer and since that time they became really close, even having each other’s phone numbers and JiHo having Eunhyuk on speed dial. When she was still under-age Eunhyuk became her guardian (not legally) since she has no family in Korea

Red Velvet:

They aren’t really close with each other for a few reasons (nothing bad though)

JiHo joined SM just after Red Velvet debuted and since the group was very busy with promotions and practice JiHo rarely got to see them

Though JiHo was very talented she didn’t have that much training and she was still a little too young when SM thought of adding another member into the group, Yeri had joined Red Velvet in march of 2015 which was clearly an amazing choice

SM also thought, pretty early on, that JiHo wouldn’t be a great fit for the group’s concept and overall look so they quickly stopped considering JiHo to become a Red Velvet member

Even after years passed, JiHo didn’t really get much closer to most of the members, but she respects them a lot as artists

Out of the whole group she’s probably closest with Seulgi and Wendy, who kinda see her as a little sister they want to take care of

Wendy checks up on JiHo every once in a while through text or invites her out to have dinner and drags Seulgi along with her

They look out for her and tease her a lot when it comes to being the only female member of NCT

“You need to be surrounded by a bit more oestrogen every once in a while, JiHo.” ^^

They will give her advice or just try to cheer her up when they catch the younger girl looking a bit stressed

JiHo would love to do a dance cover with Seulgi sometime in the future

SHINee:

Honestly who doesn’t love SHINee?!??

I’m not saying JiHo is secretly a Shawol, but I am saying SHINee is one of the groups that introduced her to kpop

She always had (and still has) so much respect for the group and they are probably the reason she accepted the scout’s request to come to Korea to become a trainee at SM

A possibility to debut under the same company as SHINee?? YES MA’AM

She has a very friendly relationship with the boys

Saying hi in passing or making small talk whenever they end up in the same elevator

Maybe even went to get something to eat together in the company cafeteria, but besides that there isn’t very much interaction

Taemin has mentioned her a handful of times after SuperM formed since he’s in the same group of some of JiHo’s members now

It usually about how he thinks JiHo’s really cute definitely during her trainee days when she was a little shy towards SHINee��or that she’s a really great dancer/performer

Fans have wanted Key & JiHo or Minho & JiHo interactions for a while now, thinking they would make iconic duos (because chaos-), but some other fans have mentioned how she and Onew would make for a great duo because the girl tends to gravitate to the calmer members in NCT more often as well

EXO:

Well Kai is her idol so...

A lot of teasing once again

Though funnily enough, some EXO members seem to be intimidated by JiHo or act awkward around her

JiHo has been pretty open about being an EXO-L and so many fans poke fun at EXO about them being awkward around the girl (they have adopted her into the fandom and she’s pretty well received there)

“She just has this aura around her~”

MTL to feel intimidated by/awkward around JiHo:

Most: Sehun, Suho & Kai

Least: Chen, Baekhyun, Xiumin (EXO-CBX ^^) & Lay (EXO-M <3, the former Chinese members were also not really awkward around her)

Not at all: Chanyeol & D.O.

JiHo’s fans are sad that her and Kai are so awkward around each other and blame EXO and NCT (mainly those in SuperM) for teasing Kai so much by mentioning JiHo looks up to him, that now he can barely look her in the eyes

People have also pointed out how funny it is that Kai and Sehun are especially intimidated by JiHo, comparing them to big dogs being scared of a little puppy (wait this is cute)

Chanyeol and D.O. get along very well with JiHo, Chanyeol mainly being kind of a big brother for JiHo, but a big brother who likes making fun of her and embarrass her

JiHo mentioned the group a lot in her first year of being an idol, after that she kind of stopped (theory: she got told of by SM for talking about EXO too much after getting a lot of mean comments from antis ＞﹏＜)

Interactions between her and the group have also been insanely spares since mid 2019

(another theory: fans think that JiHo isn’t allowed to talk/interact with EXO anymore)

She has only mentioned EXO members when talking about SuperM, but it was mainly to support the group’s promotions

SNSD/Girl’s Generation:

NCT has teased JiHo before saying that she’s scared of SNSD

She defended herself by telling everyone that it’s because they are her seniors and she really respects them so she tends to get nervous around them 

Some of the members of the girl group have mentioned JiHo before and said they hung out a little

Hyoyeon has been very expressive about her fondness for the girl

She even said that she wanted JiHo to join her when she participated in Hit The Stage

It didn’t end up happening because the kind of dances she did where either “too mature” or “unfortunately we didn’t get permission (from SM) to let Jiho join”

Hyoyeon has posted some pictures with JiHo on instagram, either cheering her on during NCT promotions or just because they were casually hanging out

JiHo also really likes Sunny and Taeyeon and has been invited by the girls to attended their concerts a few times now

On the outside it looks like they have a very strict senior-junior relationship, but every once in a while the group tells them how they are actually closer to JiHo than people think, they just don’t have very many opportunities to show it

They also do NOT tolerate any hate towards JiHo (definitely from those who comment on her not deserving to be in a boy group or her skill as an idol in general) and WILL defend her and shoot down any comments

Aespa:

She trained with a few of the girls for a little while

But when it got announced that JiHo would be joining NCT instead of a girl group, she started training with the boys (NCT and trainees who’d join NCT)

Your thoughts on Shinee members, please 🤗

omg okay well it's a really broad question! but i'll try to keep it brief. let me start off by saying I love shinee as a whole and i think all the members are super talented. that being said i'll be super honest

i ult key so starting with him i think he is an incredible performer and dancer - he's actually one of the best idol dancers in the industry but sadly he is in a group with the god of dance that is lee taemin. I wouldn't say he is overshadowed but he's often overlooked bc of that. I admire his work ethic and his unapologetic sincerity as an artist - he is definitely an inspiration for lgbt kids around the world and i think he knows that and tries his best to live up to that (as best as he can within the limits being closeted puts him in). Also he's a really good vocalist he's improved so much in his years as an idol (starting off in a rapper position which in SM means you're not a bad vocal but you're definitely not remarkable enough in the lineup) to being one of the best vocals in his company and keeping up more than enough with onew who is an outstanding singer.

Next up taemin - i love taemin as an artist. I love his solo work and i am in awe of his dancing abilities always. I don't think his vocals are that great tbh like he's definitely not up to par w onew and key but he's still good enough i just don't particularly enjoy his tone. it's funny cause i love his solo discography which is impeccable but the part i care the least for is his singing. what else? Uhh i think personality wise i don't vibe with him and i get concerned for him because he's clearly suffered a lot from being debuted as a 14 year old child and all the hardships he's been through. He has an unhealthy relationship with fame and public perception - like more so than your average idol. I just hope his support system is enough to keep him safe

lol honestly i have the most to say about taekey bc i am more invested in them as artists but i can't talk enough about how much i simply enjoy minho. He just makes me happy. He is an amazing guy and has a heart of gold - i absolutely love his personality, i think he's a great dancer and rapper. I genuinely enjoy his rapping in all shinee songs and i think he definitely grew into that position through the years - specially as someone who let's face it debuted because of his looks. I am really glad he is there with shinee bc he's definitely the glue of the group and you can tell he really considers them his brothers. He's also the most attractive idol i have ever laid eyes on he makes me go a little light headed everytime i see him ngl

I don't have words to talk about jonghyun. I genuinely don't i got into kpop in late 2020 and i never knew him. to this day i haven't gotten into his solo work. I don't watch videos with him. He is a stranger to me, one i am a little scared of getting to know. sorry i can't give you another answer. all i can say is i thank god everyday for all the creative force he injected both into shinee and the kpop industry at large. I absolutely love his songwriting

I love jinki's voice! I think he is an outstanding and remarkable singer..... with very little else that appeals to me. I'm sure he's a great guy and i don't doubt that his role as shinee's leader is essential to how well the group works. he clearly loves all of them and they all have the most respect and admiration for him. however i don't care for him and his personality doesn't shine through enough for me to care.

Taemin:

Since you and Taemin had been friends long before you started dating, you were both openly comfortable with each other. Despite that, there was not really any suspicion about your relationship, which made it easy for you to keep it a secret. 

The people close to you and also a fair share of people in the industry were well aware of it. Yet, it still wasn’t known publicly. It surprised you at times, since you could both be rather clumsy with words or say things without thinking them through beforehand. The fact that none of you had slipped up yet was somewhat of a miracle. 

After sticking with each other for a long time you would both be certain that you shared something special that would last even longer. You therefore thought it was something you would need to come clean about to your fans. 

That’s essentially how the idea to confirm your relationship on your own accord came to life. It felt right for you to let everyone know directly from you, when the time was right, and not from anyone else.

When that time came and you were both comfortable to come clean you confirmed it with a simple statement through your agency and while it created some fuss, the overall reaction was generally good and positive. 

There would be some bad seeds in the form of people who were openly against you, but you wouldn’t focus on those. Instead, you would only focus on the people who actually accepted and supported you.

Minho: 

When you and Minho first started your relationship you were both determined to be careful and keep it hidden for the sake of your careers and you were able to successfully do so for almost a year. 

In the beginning you would only meet in remote locations or in the safety of your own homes. However, as you progressed in your relationship you also met more frequently and even in public areas. 

You definitely got bolder over time but always tried to be careful. Since it would only take one mishap to spark a small rumor and that would lead to people tailing you to create a news story and eventually capture photos of the two of you together. Those would later surface on the web and create a fuss. 

It was a bit scary at first, for both of you, as you had never been involved in ‘scandals’ or a story big enough to attract that much attention. 

It was not like you could hide it after that point so you both came clean and then stayed under the radar for a bit to let things calm down.

The attention was a mix of positive and negative and you didn’t know what it would mean for the future but you both knew that you would stay together no matter what. You would talk about it over the phone and also reassure one another that everything would be okay.

Eventually new scandals and stories would come along and by then people wouldn’t be as focused on the two of you anymore, which definitely made you feel relieved. 

Since neither of you had been in hot weather before, your careers didn’t really experience any change after your confirmed relationship and your fans generally accepted it. 

It put you both at ease and you could stay together happily and in love. 

Key:

Key wouldn’t mind going public with your relationship. In fact, he would like it better to not have to sneak around and constantly be careful to showcase your close bond too much in front of anyone outside of your close circle of friends and loved ones. 

The only reason he was still doing so was for your sake. He knew you were scared and he didn’t blame you, since he had seen before how people received backlash and negative attention simply for being in love with another person. It wasn’t right but it was out of his control and it bothered him a lot. As proud as he was of your relationship, he would keep it a secret for as long as he needed if it meant he was keeping you safe. 

That would become more difficult for him when a rumor started that romantically linked him to someone else. It was another celebrity he had been on a show with in the past but not someone he was still close to or even in touch with. 

But even if it was all fiction and rooted in nothing but groundless rumors, people bought into it. Key would see comments and articles about it and feel really awful, since he saw how it affected you. 

Even while doing his occasional Instagram lives, he would be spammed with comments about it and as much as he denied it the speculation just didn’t seem to die down. 

It would get to him in the end and he would blurt out the truth before he could stop himself or think about the aftermath. 

“If you are going to link my name to anyone else’s then link it with y/n, since she is the person I am actually in love with.” 

After his spontaneous confession the comments would take a 180 turn and revolve around you and Key instead and he would have to call you afterwards and come clean about what he had done. 

Jonghyun:

You and Jonghyun were known to be close friends and label mates but no one except the people close to you knew that you were actually dating. 

You had kept it a secret for a long time, to the point where you weren’t as worried about it being known anymore, since you were both comfortable in your relationship and wouldn’t let anything come in the way of it. 

You would always support each other and not shy away from showcasing your close bond. It had created some rumors that you were more than friends but it was mostly among your own fans and not the general public. 

It all changed in a moment, however, a moment where your silly boyfriend forgot that you were at a public event. It was an award show and you won in the ‘female solo performance’ category for the title track of your album released earlier that year. 

Since it was your first time winning in such a big category Jonghyun was overjoyed and proud, to the point where he completely forgot the fact that you were in public, or he simply discarded that fact, and pulled you into a kiss. 

It certainly created a lot of speculation and fuss in the days to come and you both had to confirm the relationship, since there was really no way you could deny or hide it after what he pulled. 

“I’m sorry y/n. I just couldn’t help myself.” he would apologize with a shrug, which would make you roll your eyes playfully. 

Thankfully, the response was good over all. Many fans of yours and other people had already had their suspicion before it became a known fact, so it had slowly been accepted over time. 

Onew: 

Since the start of your relationship with Onew, you had feared the day when it would become a publicly known matter. He was immensely popular and you could imagine the hate storm that would possibly come your way if everyone knew. 

Your fears would come to true one day as you received a package at your door, which contained photos of the two of you together along with a note to let you know that the photos would be released if you didn’t break it off with him. 

The attempted blackmail would scare you a lot, while Onew would feel very angry and guilty, since you had to go through something like this simply for being in a relationship with him. 

He would tell you not to worry and then attempt to solve the situation on his own but in vain. It would be painful to meet you again and have to tell you that there was not much you could do to keep your relationship secret anymore. 

“I’m really sorry y/n. I really tried to find a way but the more I thought about it, the more I realized there’s only one option that could keep those pictures secret and even then it’s not 100% safe.”

You would lit up with a bit of hope but it would quickly disappear once he told you that you could follow the instructions in the package and break up with him, which was nonsense. You told him you would definitely not do that and it seemed to put him at ease, since he didn’t want that either. 

He then brought the final option to you. It wouldn’t keep the pictures from becoming public matter but it could at least help minimize the damage and it was to confirm your relationship through a statement before anyone else tried to out you. It would take away all the power from the blackmailer, since the pictures would only showcase what was already confirmed.

It was definitely the best option you had and even if you felt a bit scared at the thought of going public after a long time in the shadows, you knew that you would be okay as long as you had him by your side.

LET'S BE RATIONAL ABOUT THIS

Been seeing some comments about how fans are worried about Taemin serving his mandatory military service right now and that they're worried about his mental health because a fellow soldier shared that Taemin doesn't talk much and does what he's told and he does it well.

I actually have quite a lot of thoughts about this and I think I'm rambling a little so I'm gonna put it under a cut. In consideration of people who do not wish to see a long field of text and wish to easily scroll this by. :)

Disclaimer, this is 200% my own thoughts and opinions. I adore Shinee and only wish good things for them. And I'm also not Korean (hello from sunny Singapore) so I'm not speaking for S.Korea. Hell, I'm not even male so I've never served in the military. But I had quite a good conversation with my boyfriend who has done his mandatory military service as a Singaporean and got some of his thoughts on this too. But 300%, just my own thoughts and opinions.

I can understand that there are fans who miss him and wish he didn't have to be away for 18 months, I can understand that fans worry about his health and wellbeing because military service is not meant to be walk in the park but I really don't understand the extrapolation from Taemin doesn't say much and does what he's told (well) to TAEMIN IS SUFFERING AND HE IS MISSING HIS SUPPORT SYSTEM AND TAKE HIM OUT TAKE HIM OUT PLEASE. O.o

Dude. What. Like... what do you know? Like really, WHAT. do you know? What did you think this enlistment was supposed to be? A party? He's a soldier now, not a fucking entertainer.

The worst are the ones who are pissed off at the fucking S.Korean government for enforcing mandatory military national service for all fit-for-service Korean males. I seriously cannot understand this. Like really, do you not understand that the 2 Koreas are LITERALLY still at war. Do you REALLY think that this is just a bunch of men in suits going LET'S JUST ROUND UP OUR YOUNG HEALTHY MALES FOR 2 YEARS OF THEIR LIVES AND MESS AROUND WITH THEM COS IT'S SO FUN LET'S MAKE ALL THE KPOP IDOLS' FANS SUFFERRRRRRRRR.

Firstly, nobody gives a shit about fans. I assure you it's not in ANY consideration how the idols' fans feel. Secondly, can you even begin to fathom the opportunity cost of mandatory military service requirements and THEY STILL ENFORCE IT ANYWAY. Even if you cannot, surely there must be a reason why SO many countries enforce mandatory military service for able bodied males.

Like. What. The. Fuck. I seriously find it hard to understand how can anyone see only SUCH a tiny part of the whole picture.

And how do you think these comments reflect upon Taemin? I mean, the whole concept of soldier unity and loyalty can be encapsulated in one question: "Will I fight in the war together with this soldier?" And you would want everybody to wholeheartedly declare YES I WILL. That sense of loyalty and trust is what's gonna keep them alive in war times. (This is literally a matter of life and death. LITERALLY.) So if I was a platoon mate of Taemin's and I'm seeing these comments speculating about Taemin's mental health, I'm gonna be worried the fuck out man. Like dude, is this guy fit for service? Should he be handling guns and grenades and all other weapons that could literally kill us all if mishandled? Will he suddenly abandon ship if we're called to fight for our country? Do I trust this guy? Oh Lord, SHOULD I trust this guy?

Also, side point. If Taemin really wasn't fit for service, like physically, he has some challenges, or mentally, he has certain conditions. Pretty damn sure he would have declared it and concessions would have been made. Because it is in NOBODY'S favour to put somebody unfit for service through service.

I can understand that fans worry. I really do. You care for the little fucker, you want him to be happy, to be healthy, to be well. But there are much bigger concepts at stake here. Loyalty to country, to your homeland, to your fellow countrymen, to your family. Trust between comrades etc.

Lastly, I have also seen fans who are upset because they think that Taemin has served his time because of the great artistic output he has contributed to the Kpop music scene. No doubt. Absolutely, the boy has done some amazing things. He is very talented and he has also worked extremely hard. But imagine if war descended on S.Korean, like the North went berserk and made good on their nuclear warfare threats. Do you think it would even remotely matter how well he can dance to Move or Advice or Press Your Number? Like dude, LIFE AND DEATH HERE. PLEASE PICK UP THE RIFLE, FALL IN LINE AND LET'S GO PROTECT OUR LOVED ONES. Like what? He gets a free pass to just chill and watch his countrymen fight (and possibly die) because he dances really well...????

My point is, there are many types of service to your country. Artistic contributions, literary contributions, economic contributions, advancement in medical technologies, etc. Everybody contributes in their own way. But military service sits above all of that. And it doesn't matter how much you have contributed in other aspects, the physical protection of your country in times of need is still everybody's expected duty. (Partially why I think the BTS law thing is kinda silly but it's about delaying service not eliminating it altogether so I guess it's still okay? But okay, topic for another day. This is my personal opinion, Armys please don't burn my house down.) I think this is why treason in any country is the biggest crime you could possibly commit.

All in all, CALM THE FUCK DOWN JESUS. Taemin is a healthy, able bodied, GROWN ADULT MAN. He ain't some small baby no matter how much your brain is unable to accept the tiny bowl cut kid you first met in 2008 is now fucking 28 years old. He can handle it. Just let him go. Miss him, binge watch his MVs on loop for like 312842 hours (not recommended but you do you.), blast his music at 100 decibels, clutch his pictures, curl up in a ball and cry, whatever, YOU DO YOU. But really, pretending he is less capable of what's expected of him, getting angry at the "System" for "enslaving" him, bemoaning the entire concept of loyalty and service to country, is ridiculous, narrow minded and honestly, kinda pathetic.

How the fuck did I manage to write an entire essay on a Kpop Idol's fan's reaction to his enlistment is beyond me. But okay. That's all. I'm gonna stare at pictures of Onew now. Bye!

— Between 1 and 4, who would you rather kiss? [ Haechan vs. Renjun ] That is super tempting, but obviously our sunny boy. (I have written both tbh. I am willing to kiss both. I am more than willing. I am begging. Please LET me kiss both. I am DEMANDING I - )

— Between 2 and 7, who would be your best friend? [ Baekhyun vs. Onew ] To be very frank, I love Baekhyun entirely as he is, but I think Onew’s relaxed and down-to-earth attitude would vibe with me in more realistic situations and would be a more balanced friendship. Onew is just so wholesome. 

— Between 5 and 10, who has a better voice? [ Taeil vs. Changmin ] This is a good match for this contest, but honestly, Taeil. His voice is so rich and really grabs/resonates, whereas Changmin is this kind of husky, stylized thing. I’d classify Taeil as technically “better”. 

— Between 1 and 8, who is the funniest? [ Haechan vs. Ten ] Haechan. His humor is so quick and smart and he just has this sense. Not that Ten doesn’t have sense, but :) 

— Between 6 and 9, who would you date? [ Johnny vs. Jaemin ] Johnny would make for an EXCELLENT boyfriend. He seems so receptive to other people’s needs and intuitive to situations. We all know he’s big on affirmations and positive reinforcement, too. 

— Between 4 and 8, who is the best dancer? [ Renjun vs. Ten ] Ten, no contest. 

— Between 3 and 5, who would you most likely marry? [ Taemin vs. Taeil ] I was obsessed with Taemin 2010-2013, but honestly..... Taeil. I would rather sign up for warm smiles and easy-breezy loving than troublemaking and forgetfulness, I’m sorry TT^TT

— Between 1 and 7, who would you nurse when sick? [ Haechan vs. Onew ] Onew can take care of himself well, I’m sure. I would take care of the 00 baby, no matter how much he’d whine about it :( Also, Haechan is sick ALL the time, so he clearly needs help. 

— Between 6 and 8, who would you rather vacation with? [ Johnny vs. Ten ] When traveling I feel like it’s important to be with someone who makes me feel calm, safe, and collected, in order for me to be supported to mentally vacate into day dream land about my surroundings. I feel like Johnny would provide that.
