The blueprint on which I base my canon is the manga, which is sort of strange because the first contact I had with the Yu-Gi-Oh! universe was through the (italian) dubbed anime that we all know about and I didn't end up watching the original dub or knowing about the manga until many years later, but I ended up liking the latter a lot more. Which makes sense to me because I was always more of a 'manga' person than of an 'anime' person. I really don't like watching anime that much but sure I love my infinite collection of manga. lol

When it comes to the ygo dm anime, there are a few things that stuck with me of course: the japanese voice actors which I adored (not all of them, though) and some of the filler episodes that dwelled on Seto and Mokuba's past.

Still, when it was time for me to create the world of 'Domino Blues' and assemble my own canon, I favored the manga canon over the anime. Mostly for the freedom that it would be granting me in making up my own ideas and headcanons about the characters and the world. So yes, everytime I write something about ygo, I always have the manga in mind.

Through the years, however, when my fictional world started growing and growing and storylines became more intricated and elaborate, I realised that unconsciously I was already incorporating elements from the ygo dm anime. I eneded up accepting this because I believed these elements would be useful in enriching my canon.

But being the chaotic creative mindforce that I am, it didn't make sense to me to just put these elements in my stories the way they had already been used in the anime. I don't like when that happens. I felt like I had to make those my own, to shape them into something that was close to my heart and give them a sort of an original take.

So I did. I revisited them, I created my own version of it that could fit in my canon. And when I say 'elements', I actually mean three characters, originally from the anime only, that have been featured in my stories: Rebecca Hopkins, Siegfried and Leonhart von Schroeder.

I still don't think the anime gave justice to them. I didn't like the way they were written so of course I had to reshape them into something more recognisable to me and my fictional world. Some traits are still there: Rebecca, for example, is still a child genius and the granddaughter of Prof. Hopkins, long time friend of Sugoroku Mutou. But I fabricated her entire life and the way some interaction with the other characters happened.

As for the von Schroeder brothers, they are more like 'fallen nobles', they still lead their german company but in the end I made them quite different from their anime equivalent. Also, I reworked the events of their meetings with the Kaibas.

So yeah, I used the original characters as a blueprint or a foundation upon which I built my own personal original characters. And I ended up liking the result quite a lot.

Maybe in the future I will introduce it to you, my own take on them.

this is the FUNNIEST interpretation of the KaibaCorp Grand Prix and i'm absorbing the AU immediately 🙈💖 amazing!!

consider, a twist: everything about Siegfried, Leon, and the von Schroeder's beef with Kaiba is true. however, Kaiba decides to quash this by giving Siegfried an impossible-to-refuse-business offer...if he'll come to the Grand Prix and play the supervillain 👀

not only would Schroeder Corp be saved from financial ruin, but the ever-dramatic Siegfried gets the opportunity to be as camp and sinister as he likes;;; he also gets the catharsis of "humiliating" his long-time rival on live television...and he gets to flex his duelling strats with his favourite cards! 😂

although in my heart i feel Siegfried is both completely himself and far too proud/conditioned to despise Kaiba to go along with such a scheme, it's fun to imagine 😉

if i was a spectator at the kaiba grand prix i'd be like 'this is so fucking staged'. yeah SUUUREEEE this guy managed to sneak in under a false name and he and Kaiba secretly have beef... yeah of course Kaiba's going to duel him honey did you really think he was going to sit out the tournament for real? IT'S KAIBA. yes of course this was planned Kaiba came down in his dueling coat with his briefcase of cards why would he do that if he was just going to disqualify the man. isn't it a little on the nose to make your superiority complex villain german? oh and come on now he has a "''secret younger brother'''' who ALSO entered the tournament? this storyline is ridiculous

my personal headcanon re: Siegfried's hair being noticeably lighter when he's older is that his hair has lost some melanin due to stress. i think the pressure of taking down KaibaCorp and studying so hard for years would be enough of a trigger!! 😭 i've seen a couple of designs for the von Schroeder dad which also give him lighter hair, and i love the idea that their hair does become a lighter pink with age!!! at the same time, i'm vibing with Siegfried possibly having patches of grey hair brought on by the stress, and he dyes it a uniform lighter pink to cover up the greys ✨ with any luck, Leon gets to keep his own darker purple hair for much longer, as i like to think Siegfried helps him lead a much more stress-free childhood after the events of the Grand Prix 💖

"It's been six months since Kaiba left for the afterlife, chasing after his rival towards the ends of the earth.

Mokuba has taken over KaibaCorp in his brother's absence, carrying on his work after the incident with Diva. But after six months with no hint of his brother's return, Mokuba is at his wit's end. Even with Yugi's assistance, the young Kaiba feels his heart sinking deeper and deeper into dispair. He feels abandoned, lost without the elder brother who had protected him his entire life.

But after taking a day off at Yugi's request, Mokuba finds a box hidden away in his brother's study, a box with a letter, a set of keys, and a deed to a property in some dingy town named Yajū. A box left for them by their late parents.

Needing a break, and curious about the history of his family, Mokuba leaves KaibaCorp in the hands of Yugi and departs for Yajū. While there, Mokuba meets the colorful cast of this mountain town, learns of his parent's story, and discovers more about himself then he thought possible."

And heres the start of my new fic, starring my boy Mokuba and his life following the events of DSOD and Kaiba yeeting himself into the underworld.

A Stardew Valley inspired story where Mokuba discovers a letter and deed left behind to him and his brother by his late parents, travels to the town of his birth, and learns about his parents, the townspeople, and himself.

Coming of age, self discovery, coping with feelings of loss and abandonment, and even touches of romance later on (I am Leon von Schroeder biased and WILL show everyone how sweet these two can be)!

Two chapters here are the prologue and first chapter! I'll try to post new chapters either weekly or biweekly, since my writing itch has come back in full force dbbdhdbd
