who are your favorite flyers that aren't on the current team?

i have a huge huge soft spot for mike richards (for a variety of reasons but basically if you know, you know). other favorites who are no longer with us: eric lindros (my first favorite hockey player ever!!!), bernie parent (before my time but worth mentioning, he’s in my icon after all), pelle lingbergh (WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN), and timonen, pronger, and hartnell.

comedy ilya bryzgalov option, hated him in the net but appreciate pretty much everything else about him.

I WANNA HEAR THE STORIES

So each story is kinda short, but there's a few of them. 

The way that the Flyers CommUNITY Day thing worked was that there were 3 different events around Philly for season ticket holders to participate in. My dad and I went to the military holiday party one at Xfinity Live! down in South Philly by the stadiums. 

We were at the “make a reindeer” station where little kiddos were gonna make little popsicle stick reindeer to take home. So at first, it was just the season ticket members setting up the stations and stuff, but then the military families and the players came out. The player that was at our station was Christian Folin, a defenceman for those of you who don’t know. (TBFH he’s a lot hotter in person than I thought he would be). Anyway, we were hanging out and stuff and Christian decides he wants to make a reindeer. There weren’t any kids around at the time, just a few season ticket members and a twenty-seven-year-old Swedish hockey player who wanted to make a reindeer. Of course, he makes one, but the whole time as he’s doing it, we’re having a long conversation. Like he absolutely loves it here in Philly, he lives in the city, he spends the offseason in Sweden (The Gothenburg area if you were wondering), been in NA for 8 or 9 years now, played college hockey in Boston, and how much he loved the Flyers/Pens rivalry. He was incredibly sweet and answered the questions we asked him, and overall he’s just a really down to Earth guy. 

The second story is by far the most embarrassing. So Folin left to go to another station, and my dad and I decided to walk around to see if we could meet any of the other players around. Jori Lehtera and Andrew MacDonald were chilling and so I was like “hey I’m gonna go walk up and talk to them”. So I did. And we were talking for a few minutes, just the basics of like “congrats on the win yesterday” and all that. And then, I asked if we could take a photo, and they were like “sure”. And so as we were getting ready to take the picture, Amac puts his one arm around me and I’m planning to do the same to both guys. I get my arm around Lehts and go to do the same to Amac, but then I was an IDIOT and knocked over his thermal cup thing. Luckily for me, the cup was empty, but when it fell, both Lehts and Amac started laughing before reassuring me that it was alright. We took our picture and stuff and started talking again and then everything was fine.

So then my dad and I continue to walk around, and we find Claude Giroux. We get in line, and when we met him, we started talking and I congratulated him on his goal from last night and he got all smiley and stuff and it was just really adorable. 

After G, we found Gostisbehere and so after we waited in line for a bit, I got a picture with just me and him, and then my dad with us. After the picture of me and him, my dad was asking someone to take a picture of the three of us, and so I turn to Ghost and I ask, and I quote, “so how are the dogs doing?” He looks back at me, and I can just see his face light up. Like he’s genuinely smiling as he’s talking about his dogs. (The dogs are great btw). But as he’s going on about them, Gina is a few feet away with a smile on her face. We make eye contact and she mouths “he loves them” and I mouth back “we all do”. 

And last, but definitely not least, I saw Claude Giroux hoola hooping. And Sean Couturier and Jake Voracek are on either side of him and they’re laughing their asses off. It was one of the best things I’ve ever seen in my life.

So yeah, those were the main stories of the event. I have a few small, not really exiting stories as well.

I don’t know if you’re still adding to the post, but there was also the Matt Duchene trade request and everything that happened with Erik Karlsson and his wife getting harassed and the drama with Mike Hoffman’s girlfriend.

wasn’t the duchene trade drama all in 2017 though? or did he request a trade out of ottawa that i missed? and i was going to put the karlsson/hoffman drama in the post but i really didn’t want to stir those stories up again
