DEMONS IN THE CLOSET
I've come across some splendid horror stop-motion shorts, such as the gory goodness from Lee Hardcastle. DEMONS IN THE CLOSET from James Smith continues the trend of clay demons getting eviscerated for our enjoyment!!!

A masterpiece.
This is awesome on so many levels.
Ladies and Gentlemen i present to you John Carpenter’s The Thing, as performed by the claymated, Antarctic cast of the hit children’s animation Pingu. Directed by Lee Hardcastle, in under 3 minutes. Noot, Noot.

For all my fellow name nerds out there, I am very pleased to present the second annual "Gloyd Roberson Memorial List of Actual Human Children Who Wrote Letters to Santa in 1920s/30s Oklahoma".
These aren’t all necessarily “weirder than Gloyd” but fall into three rough categories which I’ve dubbed: “that’s got a nice ring to it”, “if I used this in a novel it would be considered too unrealistic” and “you’ve got 5 seconds to name a character that lives in 1920s Oklahoma, GO!”:

Hilda Bender
Imogene Berry
Heloise Blakely

Four underrated stop-motion movies and shows. Some are full with horror, some are full with laughs, and some are just full of weirdness. I also have some stop-motion web animation on YouTube I would like to recommend:
Midnight Vampire by takena: Creepy but also kinda sweet. It reminds me of something I would see on Adult Swim after waking up in the middle of the night.
The Simpsons couch gag- any of them by Lee HardCastle: Feels like one of those creepypasta of children's cartoons but are actually scary.
The Marshalls by Adeena Grubb: A Tim Burtonsque short that is both nostalgic and creepy.

Books Read in July 2024
A good month for reading!
Mortal Engines by Philip Reeve
I was curious after watching the movie (it wasn’t good). This was a fun book! I mean, for a dystopic book. Oddly childish at times (fart joke as someone dies?) but quite good. Absolutely ridiculous worldbuilding but in a good way.
Predator’s Gold by Philip Reeve
The second Mortal Engines book! Better than the first in some ways, I think Reeve really got a handle on how he wanted to write these.
The Seven and ½ Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle by Stuart Turton
For the podcast, I think. I’m iffy on it. Reading it was fine, but the experience of going back over it has lowered my opinion.
Godkiller by Hannah Kaner
Also for the podcast. WHEW. A GOOD TIME.
Moonstorm by Yoon Ha Lee
I called this a YA combination of Machineries of Empire and Phoenix Extravagant, but with mechs. And I stand by it. (it’s good)
The Ministry of Time by Kaliane Bradley
I’m back at the Book of the Month club.
This was well-written (I didn’t suffer while reading it)
But not really my speed.
Nonfiction:
Beyond Uhura by Nichelle Nichols
I cried!!! I primarily know her through Star Trek, but I was drawn in to her whole history. What a wild ride.
I think she should’ve been meaner to Gene Roddenberry.
Graphic Novels:
First Test: Protector of the Small!
<3 *singing* I love Kel!
I wonder how this reads for someone who doesn’t have this book imprinted on the back of their eyelids.
Archival Quality by Ivy Noelle Weir
Picked this one up on a whim from my local bookstore. Dark! Good!
