a short German poem
So this is primarily for @couchie, but I thought other people might like it too. Here’s a short poem in German that is fairly easy to understand, and I am going to try to explain/translate in Turkish as well!
It’s by Erich Kästner (which I actually didn’t know, I thought it was by Heinz Ehrhardt), who had a lot of clever, witty things to say. I like it because its dry wit helps put things in perspective, and it’s short enough to whip it out in all kinds of situations.
So here’s the poem, along with a reading:
Wird’s besser? Wird’s schlimmer? Fragt man alljährlich. Seien wir ehrlich: Leben ist immer Lebensgefährlich.
I shall translate line by line:
Wird’s besser? Wird’s schlimmer? Daha iyi oluyor? Daha kötü oluyor? (Is it getting better? Is it getting worse?)
Fragt man alljährlich. Her sene soruluyor. (People ask every year.)
Seien wir ehrlich: Dürüst olalım: (Let’s be honest:)
Leben ist immer Lebensgefährlich. Yaşamak her zaman hayat için tehlikeli. (Living is always life-threatening.)
As for line 2, I am not sure how to do the vague/generalising third person singular in Turkish. “Soruluyor” gets the meaning well I think. And I absolutely need a new dictionary! Also I’m being super literal with the last line so you get the punchline, I reckon you wouldn’t really say it like that in Turkish.
And that’s all! A little poem in German. 🙃

NEW article🌎✈️
Read it here: A comparison between Hindi, Urdu, Arabic and Turkish
Arabic is spoken mainly across the Middle East, and in some parts of Africa. Urdu and Hindi are derived from Hindustani, a language that was spoken in British India before the partition in 1947. [...] The vocabulary of Turkish is based on Arabic and Persian. Interestingly, Turkish is the only language here that uses the Latin script [...]

Why learn a foreign language, you ask?
Understanding and speaking the language will at some point inevitably make you feel like a spy/important person... - Bonus points for when you can eavesdrop on public conversations.
Have those fun little moments when you catch mistakes in your target language on signs, merchandise and in media. (Especially if it’s Japanese or Chinese... People love to butcher those).
Imagine what your crush would think if they suddenly realize you speak a different language 3 months after meeting you. They may gasp, exclaim that you’re full of surprises, and go weak in the knees from your oh-so-mysterious demeanor (bonus points if it’s French or Italian).
Fulfill your study aesthetic dreams, because you finally have something to theme a new blog around. Time to splurge on a pretty notebook and nice pens and work on that handwriting. Get the desk set up nice and cute, grab yourself the most beautiful coffee mug you can find. You’ve just become that girl. And you love it. Can’t forget to mention the messy buns, glasses (don’t have to be prescription), cat ownership and plants.
Increase your chances of escaping eternal loneliness TEN FOLD because learning a language just opened doors to millions of people who couldn’t speak yours.
Your personality may shift depending on which language you’re speaking, due to cultural and linguistic differences. So, by learning a new language, you will not only become more knowledgable about the world around you, but about yourself and people in general.
Accurately understand books, shows, and all sorts of media in your target language. (No more relying on suspicious subtitles).
Feel satisfied in knowing that you’ve picked up quite a fun and rewarding hobby that can and will expand your life in every possible way.

im not reblogging the original post this is from directly because it's principally about how Germany gets mad at immigrants for identifying with the victims instead of the perpetrators when learning about the Holocaust, which is a good thing to discuss, but this specific example they opened the article with is pretty funny because like. Turkish immigrants. from Turkey. wondering how a society got fanatical enough to genocide an entire race. from Turkey. hmm, i dunno, let's ask literally fucking Hitler in 1939:

Turkish people don't get to play dumb about the concept of genocide. it's that thing your government keeps specifically denying they did to my ancestors
#because nobody on this site can read: im not laughing at immigrants for identifying with the victims of the Holocaust#i am calling Turkish people ignorant for acting incredulous about a society hating another race enough to genocide them#if anyone tries to say maybe they didn't learn about it in school i am blocking them#the classic “americans don't learn about geography in school uwu” excuse but about a genocide

cheeky turkish studyblr in a park while I'm waiting. don't look too closely at the utter gobbledygook I'm writing
🎧 - Rachmaninoff Piano Concerti 1 & 2, Vladimir Ashkenazy & the London Symphony Orchestra
#studyblr#langblr#turkish#studying#study aesthetic#park#public space#language learning#rachmaninoff#music#musicblr#classical music#comments on the music because i thought it was quite interesting: fantastic pieces (rach 1 gets more discourse than it deserves. I'm a big#fan). but i thought ashkenazy played it a bit weirdly - lots of the vibier bits (the exposition of rach 2.1; the brassy bits in rach 1.1 eg#were too slow such that the vibe was kinda sucked out of them. like it was still musical and the feeling and emotion was there#but. not the fun methinks. at least in some bits. then in other bits - most notably my favourite bit of rach 2 (the alla marcia in mvt1) wa#ironically too fast and it was just a bit odd. like that's a fair interpretation but i didn't agree with it. each to their own. orchestra#was fab tho - the LSO - playing out all the little details with ease and heart. just thought it was an interesting recording

[ID: Nine Turkish worksheet thumbnails arranged around a heart. My icon, a woman wearing a white hijab, is in the corner, next to a box with my ko-fi link: ko-fi.com/ameera_ameera. /end ID]
Did you know I started sharing free Turkish resources this August? I have created 10 worksheet bundles so far. Each starts with an explanation of a grammatical concept, followed by several pages of exercises. Each exercise also comes with a solution, of course, so you can check and correct your answers at home.
I have decided to create and share these resources for free to make learning Turkish more accessible to everyone. The internet lacks good free resources, and common apps like Duolingo or Busuu have weak Turkish courses.
I hope my worksheets will make it easier for you to learn this beautiful language and connect to the beautiful Turkish culture 🙏🏼
