The Tunnels

it's been almost 9 years since I fell into the tunnels.

at first I was scared, but the people there welcomed me with open arms.

soon I became an integral part of their community.

as an underground doctor, I'm always busy. but I make sure to take breaks and scout the area where people tend to fall down most.

usually it's lost travelers, or confident adventures with something to prove. sometimes we find soldiers.

they're lucky if they survive the fall.

one day, I found a black letter. it was hard to see in the dark but it was addressed to me.

I don't know how they did it, but they found me.

within, a mission. and cash. a promise.

time passed.

one day, a young man fell down.

his blood was blue and he wore the armor of a soldier.

we don't usually take in soldiers...

I nursed him back to health at camp. he tossed and turned in his sleep, as if having nightmares.

I could hear him while he slept.

he's not a bad guy.

and our goals align.

but I don't think I'll tell him about the letter.

there's no need.

I can support him regardless of my mission.

because he's not a bad guy.

I've seen his scars.

I've felt his touch.

he holds me tight, and cries in his sleep.
