Oil Leak Repair
Finally, after a couple of years, an oil leak from the transmission, that has gradually got worse, is to be fixed. It’s taken me all this time, and some stern words from my MOT tester, to finally put trust in a local garage to perform this repair.
16606 will go in on Monday 15th June for a couple of days. I’ll also be getting other minor work completed such as replacing the steering rack boots whilst it’s there.
Monday 15th June
Earlier today I dropped 16606 at Shaftesbury Garage in Barnet. I left her on the forecourt as instructed and checked her in and discussed the work to be done. Since then, I can’t help but think how the car is. I’m having separation anxiety!
Saturday 20th June
Yesterday, Friday 19th June, the garage contacted me to request some parts. They preferred that I source the parts from my usual DeLorean supplier since they trusted that over using their everyday suppliers. It was also suggested that they replace the clutch whilst they were working on that area of the care and since mine had not been updated during the restoration I agreed and also sourced a clutch kit.
So with a list of the required parts I placed my order from DeLoreanGo.com after lunch which was speedily processed by Arran. Expecting the package to arrive early next week I was pleasantly surprised when I read the shipping notification to learn it would arrive the next day (a Saturday).
Well, at only 22 hours after placing the order the package arrived. Great service once more from DeLoreanGo.
Monday 22nd June
This morning I dropped the parts around to the garage. Whilst there the owner, George, told me what a focus of attention the car has been since so many people have come up to him to ask if this was a real DeLorean and being amazed at seeing it. Due to this, even though originally it had been kept in the workshop, rather than on the forecourt, George told me that even though it was blocking a lift, he kept it raised up out of harms way so no one could touch it.
Being raised up allowed for a better view of the leak.
Whilst having a general conversation, George told me he had seen a documentary on the cars and saw “this British guy going overseas to restore and brush stainless in the USA”. I recognised the person George was referring to as Chris Nicholson who restored my car. George described him as a real master of his work and was amazed at the results he got.
We also discussed what a great general condition the car was in and what a thorough restoration had been done.
Whilst it’ll be another week before I get 16606 back, due to workload at the garage, I’m very confident it is in great hands. If anyone in the North London area wants to know the garage I’ve used then you can message me and I’ll be happy to let you know.
Thursday 2nd July
Today the garage called to say my Clutch Slave Cylinder was leaking and asked me to source a new one. So I wouldn’t be getting 16606 back this week. Not a problem since I’d rather only get her back once it’s fully repaired, but I am missing her!

Friday 3rd July
The Clutch Slave Cylinder affixed about 11:30 so I drove it round to the garage. I expect now to get 16606 back by middle of next week. 🤞
Tuesday 7th July
As the work nears completion I was contacted today to check about the Rear Seal Gasket I had provided (102022). As the photo below shows it does not fit naturally over the bolt holes. I was told that usually they would just apply grease and manipulate it into place but that they didn’t want to take any chances with my DeLorean. I asked for advice from Arran of DeLoreanGo.com who advised that it “can be manipulated and expands with heat. Some people don't bother with a gasket there at all. But in an ideal world you would sandwich that gasket between RTV sealant - i.e. sealant on the metal face of the engine, and on this plate, paper gasket in-between”.
I relayed this advice and then later went around to the garage to see how they got on. It worked a treat and all is good.
Fingers crossed now for getting 16606 back for the weekend🤞.
Thursday 16th July
It’s ready! Just had the call that all is done and 16606 has been test driven. I’ll therefore be going to collect her on Friday afternoon 😁.
Friday 17th July
And she’s home. I collected 16606 this afternoon, drove her home and now she’s nicely tucked up back in the garage. The sum total of the work performed was
Replaced complete clutch kit, spigott shaft bearing, gear box output shaft seals, rear main oil seal and gasket.
Replaced inner and outer CV gaitors on both drive shafts.
Replaced both steering rack gaitors.
Just from the drive home I could instantly feel how smooth and easier the clutch and gear changes were.

Whether wood, vinyl or composite, quality windows are a wise investment when it’s time to up-grade your home.
There are a lot of options on the market when it comes to replacement windows. Every make and model touts its “superior” features. How do you determine which is right for your Madison WI home? Consumer Reports magazine recently compared the most popular brands, including Pella windows. Not all lines performed the same but some outperformed the others.
The detailed test was done on factory double-hung windows from eight different popular manufacturers. To simulate a routine order for new windows, the magazine ordered 3×5-foot windows from each supplier. Each was installed in a wooden frame and evaluated for its resistance to wind and rain.
Replacement Windows Must Withstand The Elements
Since most modern windows withstand simulated aging tests, the focus was on how the potential replacements handle extreme weather.
One side of each test window was sealed and a testing device to simulate high-speed wind was attached. Air flow increased to 25 mph and then up to 50 mph. An air flow meter measured air leaking around or through the windows. Each test was run at 0° F and again at 70° F to account for potential frame changes in hot or cold temperatures.
To test resistance to wind-blown rain 5 gallons of water per square foot of window was applied per hour. Each new window earning an Excellent rating had to withstand winds up to 74 mph – gale-force winds – without leaking. The lowest scoring windows leaked under pressure from 35 mph winds.

The 2019 lineup of vinyl windows includes nine dual-frame options with many colors to fit any exterior architecture and to enhance curb appeal.
Wood And Composite Replacement Windows
Various lines of wood frame windows were subjected to the same tests. Pella’s Lifestyle Series did exceptionally well in all the wind resistance testing at both 0°F and 70°F. And the lineup faired well in the rain test with winds up to 60 mph.
Among the newer window designs are those featuring composite frames – using a blend of wood fiber and thermoplastic resin. They look like more like wood and wear more like vinyl.
The new Impervia line earned an “excellent” rating for rain resistance and did equally well withstand high winds at both high and low temperatures. This new line includes five single color options and four dual-color choices. All are a standard white inside.

Plastic Bottle Defects: Causes and Solution
The injection moulding process includes a great possibility for costly blunders. Injection-moulded product quality concerns can range from tiny surface flaws to more substantial issues that affect the product's stability, efficiency, and functionality. The moulding process flaws, the tools applied, the layout of the equipment, or a combination of all these elements can lead to product quality concerns.
Moreover, when it comes to producing plastic containers, several defects will cause your quality department to reject the plastic container. But, your relationship with the customer could suffer severely if any of the problems gets neglected by your quality control staff and supplied to your client or their consumer.
However, understanding how moulding flaws occur is half the battle like any other quality issue. As a supplier or a manufacturer of plastic processing machinery in Australia, understanding frequent moulding issues and how to avoid them can save you money on excess inventory and replacements.
Hence, you can use inspection machines and a few subsequent processes to discard a bottle if it allows air to pass through it during the leak test. So, the earlier you can figure out the cause of these problems, the more revenue you can generate from your production process. Holes:
Holes can appear at any point throughout the blow moulding process. Some of the most prevalent causes include:
Contamination in the Plastic Processing Machinery: This can develop anywhere in the container and the contaminants do not expand like plastic. Hence, the area around it becomes too thin, resulting in a hole.
Inadequate Material Distribution: Improper material distribution results in thin layers of material pulled to the point of hole formation.
Mould damage or faulty installation: The plastic may be blown out via the gap and form a hole if the two halves of the mould do not seal correctly (this is possible in any process). Also, a leak can emerge at the top or bottom of the mould and does not compress the parison adequately to cover the top or bottom (this is an extrusion blow moulding or EBM problem).
Hence, inspection machines such as leak testers can be a great way to detect the holes in such plastic containers.
Laser Code Holes:
A Laser Code Hole is a particular type of hole that can appear on any section of the container during laser coding. The laser melting through the plastic forms these holes. That could be due to the laser's power being ramped-up too high in a tiny region or the container not going past the laser as swiftly as possible.
Gate Leaks:
Gate leaks are a type of hole that can appear during the injection blow moulding (IBM), injection stretch compression moulding (ISBM), or two-step PET injection moulding.
An injection step in these procedures creates a gate in the preform. There are a variety of factors that can lead to such gate leaks, including but not limited to:
Thin spots or holes in the gate during the injection stage
Inappropriate sample heating before entering the blow mould phase
Twisted or incorrectly positioned stretch bars in the blow mould step
The inspection machines, such as NextGen Rotary leak tester, and NGR, have a rotating vacuum option that pulls out more air from the bottle through the bottom leaks, allowing the leak test to identify a smaller hole.
Air escapes from a hole in the sidewall at a rate determined by the test pressure vs atmosphere. The pressure difference between the test pressure and the vacuum generated under the base will be higher if there is a hole. You must seal the bottom of the container to apply a full vacuum to the gate region.
Short Shots:
Short shots are a type of failure that can develop on the IBM, ISBM, or 2-step PET. An injection phase in these techniques provides the finish to the preform.
The plastic flows to the end of the mould cavity during the injection process, forming a perfect finish. A low region, or gap, in the sealing surface, will appear if the plastic does not properly flow into the cavity.
Hence, you can use inspection machines such as hard durometer seals on the probe and reduce the probe pressure to detect the gap.
Trim Defects at the End:
Finish Trim Defects are plastic bottle flaws that develop during the EBM process.
These flaws occur by worn equipment or incorrect trimmer setup. "Hangnails," or cuts in the sealing surface, can occur using a rotary trimmer. Also, the punch trimmer might have a damaged trim surface.
Moreover, these flaws can result in uneven surfaces when using a trimmer if the consumer requires a flat finish.
Recycling Machines like leak testers feature a variety of seal durometers, similar to how they detect short shots. The durometer can control the probe pressure to make finish trim faults look like leaks.
