What are the differences between a leaf blower and a leaf vacuum?
When comparing a leaf blower to a leaf vacuum, the advantage of the leaf blower is less obvious. Although these two cleaning modes seem to do the same job, there are differences in the way it works.
Cleaning mode
The leaf blower is very effective at moving leaves, but that's all it does despite the strong drafts it generates. In dry weather, the blower can raise a lot of dust, which can be detrimental to your safety or your health. It can also inconvenience your neighbors. The blower can be used in winter to clear your terrace.
The vacuum cleaner, instead of projecting air, sucks it in, which makes it safer. The leaf vacuum is also useful for cleaning porches, patios, and decks.
Some models have specially designed curved nozzles for vacuuming leaves.
Collection of leaves
The leaf blower gathers the leaves to a precise area in record time while the vacuum must be emptied each time the tank fills up, which slows down the cleaning process.
Become leaves
The leaf blower will only allow you to gather the fallen leaves into a pile. You will have to find another way to eliminate them.
The leaf vacuum, whether handheld or wheeled, and if it has a built-in shredder, will make it easier to remove the leaves as they are vacuumed. You can then use the resulting mulch as compost or throw it in the trash.
Purchase price
Blower models, in general, are more inexpensive than leaf vacuums.
Entry-level, low-power models cost less than $50. Petrol versions cost around $200. If you have a large yard, a powerful blower would be ideal for saving you time, but it will cost you more.
The price of a leaf vacuum mulcher varies between 100$ for a simple model and thousands of euros for a more accomplished version.
Certain models of leaf blowers or leaf vacuum mulcher (petrol-powered, for example) are prohibited in certain cities or suburbs for the peace of mind of the inhabitants. Remember to inform yourself before buying.
