Art's "Scissors Cut" album is actually dedicated to Laurie Bird, a girlfriend of his who committed suicide in 1979. So the song is most likely recorded with her in mind, not Paul. I'd recommend researching her, she had a huge impact on Art and his music!

Just to clarify: I'm kind of always reading lyrics (or Art's poems, for instance) through slashy goggles, because I just ship Paul and Art. Like I mentioned earlier, that doesn't mean I think they were really together, so I hope you don't take offence.

Also other than Paul, Art didn't really write his own lyrics. Many songs were written by Jimmy Webb, so it begs the question whether any of the lyrics Art sings are autobiographical in the first place (but then again, don't get me started on the lines Paul sings in In Cars.)

But that's beside the question. I do know about Laurie, of course. I also know how she died, tragically, and there's an article out there where Laurie's dad kind of blames Art for her death, because he wouldn't marry her. Imagine the insane guilt he must have been feeling?

There's another article where Art says he only cleared out some of her stuff from his apartment in 1988 or 1989 or something. That was after he had married his wife, Kim.

When Art sings April Come She Will during the Concert in Central Park, I'm pretty sure he was thinking about Laurie as well. He looks sad. The absolute devastation in his eyes when he sings the line 'and give no warning to her flight'? Tell me that's not with her in mind.
