HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Anastacia, recording artist/singer-songwriter Ben Anderson (great to have worked with you), Rita Arya, Bill Black, Kyle Chandler, Dolores Costello, Elvira a.k.a. Cassandra Peterson (good to have met you), Will Gregory (Goldfrapp), Charles Tomlinson Griffes, Ken Kesey, Mark Kleiner, Baz Luhrmann, Roddy McDowall, Brother Jack McDuff, Lamonte McLemore (5th Dimension), Reinhold Messner, the 2010 documentary WHO IS HARRY NILSSON & WHY IS EVERYBODY TALKING ABOUT HIM?, Robert B. Parker, Joseph D. Pistone, John Ritter, Rita Rudner, The Supremes 1964 “Baby Love” single, Ty Tabor (King’s X), Michiyo Tsujimura 辻村みちよ, Fee Waybill (The Tubes—keep up the good work), and one of America’s best-known cultural ambassadors, Luke the Drifter a.k.a. The Hillbilly Shakespeare a.k.a. Mr. Lovesick Blues a.k.a. Timber Snake, singer-songwriter Hank Williams. He learned guitar from African-American blues musician Rufus Payne (a.k.a. Tee Tot), and that, along with the music of Roy Acuff and Ernest Tubb, influenced Hank’s style.
Chronic back pain, alcoholism, and pill addiction took a toll on Hank’s heart and he died young and tragically, but in his short but hugely influential career he released 55 Top 10 singles with 12 #1 records. He’s cited as one of the essential pioneers of contemporary country music, but his reach extended into mainstream pop, rock’n’roll, and even jazz, as his songs (now considered to be American standards) were covered by hit-makers of the day—and still are.
A 78 of Hank’s “Lovesick Blues” turned up in my house when I was kid, and on TV I watched the biopic film I SAW THE LIGHT, a song that has always been with me. In recent years I started performing regularly in assisted living homes, and my set includes Hank’s “Hey Good Lookin’” (along with “Jambalaya”). He wrote and recorded "Hey, Good Lookin'" in 1951 (it was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2001). The song has been covered by countless artists and was a precursor to the genre known as Rockabilly. Hank was friendly with musician Jimmy Dickens. Having told Jimmy that he needed a hit record if he was going to become a star, Hank said he’d write it and penned "Hey Good Lookin'" in only 20 minutes while on a plane with Jimmy and entertainer Minnie Pearl. A week later Hank recorded it himself, jokingly telling Jimmy, "That song's too good for you!" Here’s my cover of it (recorded by Chris von Sneidern). Meanwhile, HB HW and thank you for crafting so many great songs. https://johnnyjblairsingeratlarge.bandcamp.com/track/hey-good-lookin

Danny Garcia vs Lamont Peterson
What a difference a couple of years makes. Danny Garcia (34-2) was once the a much maligned undefeated fighter who was seen as the poster boy for what was wrong with boxing due to his seeming reluctance to fight other top welterweights. He’s since dropped big bouts with Keith Thurman and Shawn Porter and basically ceded his place at the top of the welterweight division. Still, Garcia is one of the top 147lbers out there and capable to give basically anyone in the division a tough fight.
He’s going to try to rebuild himself after his previous loss with a fight against Adrian Granados (20-6-2) on FOX this Saturday (April 20).

Vero Beach Museum of Art
Vero Beach, located in Indian River County, Florida, is most known for its lively atmosphere, friendly community and of course, a scenic oceanic experience.
Those visiting the city are attracted by the warm sun and ocean views, but many do not know about one of the hidden gems of Vero Beach - the Vero Beach Museum of Art.
Located at 3001 River Park Drive, this local treasure is home to many stunning works of art and features a tranquil sculpture garden for guests to walk through and enjoy.
Founded in 1978, the Vero Beach Museum of Art was formed with the sole purpose of educating the community on the topics of arts and humanities. This nonprofit organization was originally known as the Center for the Arts, and announced a name change in 2002. It is located along the Indian River and is home to many regional, state and national art exhibits.
Permanent exhibits of the museum are well known, locally and nationally, and are considered to be the main draw of the art center.
These staple collections include dazzling glass works from Dale Chihuly, Jon Kuhn, Dominick Labino, Karen LaMonte, K. William LeQuier, Harvey K. Littleton, Duncan McClellan, mixed media sculptures from Leon Applebaum, Therman Statom, Leo Sewell, Federico Uribe, metal sculptures from Bruce Stillman, Frank Stella, Takahashi Ryun, Jean Claude Rigaud, George Rickey, eye-catching photography by Chul Hyun Ahn, Susan Martin, and stunning painted works from Lawrence Tobe, Joan Snyder, John Sloan, Edward Henry Potthast, William Oberheiser-Batista, Jane Peterson and Reginald Marsh.
Works vary from modern to contemporary to neoclassical and there is most certainly a piece of art for everyone in this museum to enjoy.
Past exhibits have featured works from Andy Warhol, Arthur G. Dove, Ai Weiwei and other well-known artists.
This community staple is also home to a Community Gallery, where works from local artists can be found on display. Most commonly, artwork from local schools is found on display here, as the museum finds it important to support young artists within the community. Guests of the museum can enjoy the nostalgic projects from school children, grades K-12.
In the museum's Education Wing, classes and workshops are hosted for all ages. Popular classes for adults include those entitled Art History, Drawing, Sketching, Tapestry and Painting.
In art history, topics cover Female Perspectives on Art History from 1950 to present day, Food in Art, the Art History of Color and a nature-based course called Artists, Naturalists, and Explorers in Florida.
Courses covering drawing and sketching include intermediate Drawing, Introduction to Colored Pencil Drawing, Drawing the Face, and others.
Workshops vary in price and can be signed up for individually on the museum's website.
The museum is always looking for new talent to host courses at the art center and is always open to those interested in teaching a class. The application process for teaching opens at the beginning of each term and the museum welcomes all those who feel they are qualified to apply.
On top of housing conversation-worthy pieces and classes for all ages, the Vero Beach Museum of Art also hosts lectures and performances for those looking to dive deeper into the art scene of the city. Lectures are hosted by art professionals and welcome all. Discuss pieces found throughout the center and dive deeper into the meaning behind the artist's intention. Uncover the history of the art discussed and enjoy learning more about both the art and the artist.
Performances vary in type, with some including live dancing and stage performances, while others feature classical music played by live instruments of bands varying in size. Instrumental performances include solos, duets, concert bands and more.
Art, in its many forms, can influence a community to great extents.
The Vero Beach Museum of Art has been a staple of Indian River County for decades for the simple reason being that human beings hold a deep appreciation for creation and expression, in all forms. It influences local culture by creating and harnessing an atmosphere where all are welcome and art in diverse forms is celebrated.
The Vero Beach Museum of Art is an absolute must-see while visiting Vero Beach, Florida, as it truly holds history in its finest forms.
Check this attraction for you to enjoy.

Norm Peterson Is Gay for Pay
“Norm, Is That You?” (December 8, 1988)
If we told you this episode features George Wendt’s character pretending to be gay, you’d probably imagine that Wendt would go really big with that performance. Most sitcoms would if a straight actor were playing a straight character playing a gay character, but Cheers doesn’t, and in fact this is an episode about gayness where it goes oddly remarked upon.
Here’s the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette article in which it was conjectured that Cheers might replace Kirstie Alley with Joan Severance, playing Rebecca Howe’s sister.
Watch the trailer for Norman… Is That You?, the 1973 Redd Foxx comedy that came out three years after his sitcom referenced the source material in “Lamont, Is That You?”
The strangeness that is Pink Lady and Jeff.
And yes, Spain remade Cheers. It has a Woody and a Coach existing at the same time. It’s weird.

In a night full of battles at MGM National Harbor in Oxon Hill, Maryland, Lamont Peterson (35-5-1, 17 KOs) looked to put on a show on his home turf against Sergey “Samurai” Lipinets (15-1, 11 KOS), but it was all cut short when Lipinets hurt Peterson in round 10 and eventually stopped him.
Peterson walked away bruised and battered announcing his retirement. This would possibly be the last time we would ever see Peterson in the ring again.
From the first bell of round number one, both fighters stood their ground trading shots with some partially blocked. It was no warm-up round with both fighters staying in range until the bell to end the round sounded.
The second round stayed the same with the volume of punches picked up on both sides, Lipinets ripped punches to the body of Peterson. Peterson’s younger brother Anthony Peterson who fought in the co-main event could be seen yelling instructions at Peterson as the action continued.
At the start of round three, Lipinets landed two flush left hands that landed cleanly on Peterson. Peterson also threw combinations to the body of Lipinets which resulted in Lipinets throwing punches to the head which seemed to back up Peterson.
Lipinets ended the round with a punch after the bell. By the end of round four, it seemed like Lipinets was landing the more effective and sharper shots even though Peterson would try to respond with some of his own.
It was apparent in round five both fighters were sticking behind their jab, but Lipinets quickly backed up Peterson landing clean punches to his head. Peterson came back with hooks to the body of Lipinets which did not stop Lipinets from coming forward.
Problems at the end of round five started with trouble due to the timekeeper who ended the round too early. Lipinets showed signs of fatigue in round 6 slowing down a bit with Peterson continuing the ripping body shots.
Peterson walked into round eight with both eyes swollen with the fighters continuing the same furious pace as round one. Lipinets landed a hard left hand on Peterson which for the first time in the fight, it was noticeable that Peterson’s legs were not under him.
Lipinets tried to finish the fight, but an experienced Peterson managed to survive the round. A left hand in round ten hurt Peterson once again sending him tumbling into the ropes in which Lipinets took advantage and finished Peterson who could no longer protect himself. His corner also threw in the white towel as soon as Peterson went down.
The ending of the fight was bittersweet with the rise of a future champion and the end of a career of a former champion and experienced veteran.
Joe Goosen ran into the ring carrying Lipinets just like he had carried Diego Chico Corrales after he defeated Jose Luis Castillo in dramatic form.
"“I’m sure it’s time for me to hang it up. This will be the last time you see me in the ring, thank y’all so much.” " -- Lamont Peterson
Those were some words Peterson gave in the post-fight interview announcing retirement after a long boxing career.
Lipinets gave credit and spoke on how it was thanks to his trainer, Joe Goosen, that he had gotten better than he was in some of his previous fights.

The Brutal Moment That Lamont Peterson Was Sent Into Retirement
On Sunday night on Fox Sports father time caught up with former world champion Lamont Peterson from Washington.
Fighting the much respected Sergey Lipinets in Oxon Hill, Peterson was TKO’d in a bout that he admitted afterwards was the last of his career.
He made an understandably emotional statement in the ring following the fight.
One that Peterson concluded on in the ring that it was…

Lamont Peterson vs Kendall Holt
For what it’s worth, I thought Lamont Peterson (34-3-1, 17 KOs) beat Danny Garcia. Also thought he lost to Felix Diaz too though.
After a quiet 2016, Peterson is getting back in the ring this Saturday (Feb. 18th) on the Showtime: Broner vs Granados card. Peterson will look to stop the rise of Russian welterweight prospect David Avanesyan (22-1-1, 11 KOs).
