A birthday gift from one of my closest friends on Discord and drawn by LenDubs! I think this particular line turned out wonderfully ^^
Tumblr media
Lassel Sacrificial Pokémon Type: Normal/Ghost Ability: Fluffy or Forewarn Hidden Ability: Natural Cure Signature Move: Crusader's Blade (Ghost-type move with 60 base power, doubles when the user is at half HP or less) Height: 2'1" or .64 meters Weight: 15 lbs or 6.8 kg
Lassel is a small ovine Pokémon with fluffy wool covering its entire body. Its head is detachable, allowing it to float around freely. It is bipedal and wears a cloak made up of several layers, the top and bottom being a very similar color to its wool and the middle being red. The cloak hides Lassel's small, fluffy tail. It also sports a collar with a bell.
Laphet (evolves from Lassel at level 24) Shepherding Pokémon Type: Normal/Ghost Ability: Fluffy or Forewarn Hidden Ability: Natural Cure Signature Move: Tempestuous Gauntlet (Dark-type move with 70 base power, can cause the opponent to flinch) Height: 3'4" or 1.03 meters Weight: 35 lbs or 15.9 kg
Laphet is a child-sized ovine Pokémon and the evolution of Lassel. It is taller than its pre-evolution, and it has fully developed hands rather than hooves. Its cloak has also changed in appearance, with fewer rough edges. Laphet is drawn towards those who are in danger and will protect them. The ones it rescues will often join it on its travels, which alleviates the Laphet's loneliness at being the only one of its kind.
Lamercy (evolves from Laphet after defeating five legendary Pokémon) New Faith Pokémon Type: Ghost/Fairy Ability: Fluffy or Forewarn Hidden Ability: Flock's Devotion (the base power of normal moves will increase by ten, and the power of Lamercy's signature move will increase by 1.5x for every Pokémon in the party) Signature Move: Godly Axe (Fairy-type move with 90 base power, will heal ally Pokémon by half if used on them) Height: 5'3" or 1.62 meters Weight: 65 lbs or 29.5 kg
Lamercy is a human-sized ovine Pokémon and the final evolutionary stage of Lassel. It has the ability to manifest soft-feathered pink wings that allow it to fly, and its teeth have sharpened enough to allow it to consume both meat and plant matter though it still prefers a vegetarian diet. Its cloak has also grown longer. Despite its fearsome appearance, it is a gentle and merciful soul that only ever acts in defense of its flock.

Haïti Legends ''Un jour comme aujourd'hui''. Né un 9 novembre.
Le Capitaine Luc jean-Baptiste, célèbre clarinettiste, violoniste, compositeur et chef d'orchestre haïtien aurait eu 135 ans aujourd'hui.
Joyeux Anniversaire Capitaine
Compositeur de la célèbre méringue haïtienne ''Diane''. (https://youtu.be/03Yhs-oud4g)
Capitaine Luc Jean-Baptiste.

A quick introduction and hello
There are lots more of you reading what I write here all of a sudden, so I thought I might do a hi-hello-there post.
My nom-de-Internet is Alex Batagi or Houngan Alex, but Alex is just fine for conversation and chatting. My full initiatory name and lineage is Bonkira Bon Oungan Daguimen Minfort, pitit Antiola Bo Manbo, pitit Selide Bo Manbo, pitit LaMerci Bo Manbo, and on through the lineage of houngans and manbos that have made my being here possible. I initiated as a houngan asogwe in Sosyete Nago/Kay Manbo Maude in 2016 in Bremen/Jacmel, Haiti, under my spiritual mother, Manbo Maude Evans/Antiola Bo Manbo, of Jacmel and Mattapan/Boston, MA.
Sosyete Nago is deeply rooted in Haiti with a temple in the US as well, and we have a diverse family spread across the world, from Haiti to the US and beyond. My family contains cultural artists, academics, entrepreneurs, writers, and folks of all flavors, and we gather around our poto mitan, Manbo Maude. Manbo Maude is too humble to really talk much about what she does, but she’ll tell you that she lives for sèvis lwa/Haitian Vodou..and it’s true. You can see her and the family in action in a variety of documentary-style videos on the house YouTube channel, and a lot of her academic teaching on Vodou (Harvard, Duke, MIT, etc) by searching for ‘Manbo Maude Evans’ on YouTube.
I came to my spiritual mother’s house totally out of curiousity--my old friend @hounganmatt and I had reconnected after several years of us leading separate lives, and he invited me to a ceremony at his spiritual mother’s house in Mattapan. I decided to attend because I had never seen Haitian Vodou before and, for me, it is important that when I have opportunities to experience how other people live and relate to the world I take them. I went fully expecting to see an interesting ceremony and then go home and get on with my life.
God (and the lwa and the ancestors) laughs at our plans, though. While not a moment of deep spiritual awakening or anything, it was literally a last minute conversation as I put my coat on and prepared to leave when the ceremony was finished. Gede cornered me and told me he had been waiting for me and had walked beside me for a long time, and would I come back and see him again?
I said yes, and the rest is some very colorful history.
Since my kanzo, I have returned to Haiti every summer to participate in kanzo ceremonies and fet kay yo/parties held for the spirits. In 2017, I married my spirits in Haiti. In 2018, I married my husband in Haiti. In 2019, I sat under a lot of trees and read a lot of books (life has slowed down).
I serve the spirits in my home in Boston, with my husband, in my mother’s temples, and out in the world, and lakay m is my spirits. For me, the most important part of Haitian Vodou is relationships. The relationships with my spirits are the focal point of my personal practice of Vodou, as well as deep study of traditional art forms in the religion (dwapo/ceremonial and decorative flags made for the lwa, boutey/bottles traditionally used to hold libations for the lwa, etc), the fey/leaves that we use to make medicine and magic, and the cultural and liturgical language of the religion, Haitian Kreyòl.
I write a lot about my own experiences, and try to write about Vodou in context as specifically a Haitian religion as culture often gets stripped away on the internet. I don’t know everything in all directions on Haitian Vodou, but I always welcome questions and good discussion that makes me dig in and ask questions to know more.
