how would wac change if lain was condor warblers or cranes charge instead of mariner?

It would change a lot!

I can tell you rn for Condor, Lain would just be dead lol. Condor would of mice and men this shit and just accidentally kill lain. "Play with your toys too hard" kinda thing.

Warbler would never be given Lain for several reasons but if she did I think he would just have to listen to her ramble about her teen girl problems. I think the story would be more about lain more immediately realizing that Warbler's in a bit of the same situation as he was, and them getting out together.

HOWEVER i have thought about Lain going to Crane a lot. I like to play around with it in a human medieval au the most, but it translates easy to original kitty cats too.

For one, Crane would immediately change the narrative to be that she graciously invited Lain into her family and she accepted him. His name would also be changed to a bird name, though i haven't decided on what yet (im tossing around the idea of peacock but im not married to that). And he would be condor and warbler's new brother and Crane's new son. Lain would not like this

For two, in canon, Mariner is (in the beginning) much more hesitant to use force and punishment to keep Lain in line, seeing as it goes against his morals. Crane would have no qualms about that. If Lain got out of line she would just sic Condor on him (with supervision so Condor doesn't just straight up kill him) or do something herself. Crane would much faster than Mariner get Lain dependent on her completely and much more under her control.

But it also has aspects of "what if Warbler got Lain", because they would have a much closer proximity to each other, and Lain would be around her more often. They would have the ability to talk more, and to once again form that kind of connection sooner than in canon.

Most of act 1 would play out the relatively the same, just without mariner and crane's dick measuring control contest. However i think the end of act 1 would be VASTLY different, and that would depend on how much Lain had adjusted to his new life, how much he had become trauma bonded to crane, and how close him and Warbler had become.

Been a hot minute since i did a quick sketch comic and Lainary au has me by the throat at the moment so <3 a small moment with them

Lainary (Canary/Lain) AU has like entered my mind and will not leave. The story is so much more about the recovery aspect in a more respectable way than in canon where Lain has to trudge through it himself while also being beat over the head by Mariner to keep doing all of the harmful shit he learned from the king.

Instead Canary doesn't treat him like garbage, even at the start, and they bond and all of the shit Lain does for Canary is because he likes her and not necause she's carefully gone about Trauma Bonding Lain to her. It would be about Canary and Lain having a slowly budding relationship and Canary being deeply uncomfortable with how Lain carries himself in a relationship and how their power dynamic affects one another. Canary doesn't wanna be a big boss and is SO uncomfortable with the idea of Lain seeing himself as her little servant who has to do everything she wants.

Also Canary was semi-close with Warbler and with her being alive and around, could become closer to her and be The One Bitch who cares about this child in danger and tries to help her out. And I think that help to get her out would be more of the catalyst to advancing to the second act than Mariner not wanting to be controlled and throwing a massive baby fit like in canon.

Really everything would be so much better if Mariner died. Sadly, Canary died so we're stuck with this blue asshole
