Cozy Italian Corners: Como Lake
Cozy Italian Corners: Como Lake
Como Lake, a luxury tourist area famous for its spectacular scenery at the base of the Prealps.
The particularity of Como Lake is due to the shape of the basin that resembles an inverted “Y”, with three thin branches converging at Bellagio. At the bottom of the south-western one is Como, known for examples of Renaissance architecture and for a funicular that goes up to the mountain town of…

A Birra Moretti on Lake Como in Laglio, Italy. A 2 of 4. An ok beer in a beautiful place. A pretty simple light lager with quite a bit of grain sweetness and adjunct notes. Highly carbonated and refreshing, but really not much to this. Still, not bad when paired with the view.

I was pleasantly surprised by Lake Como, in particular by the many small and more remote villages that are dotted around the Lake. You could say it was an awakening of sorts. My misconception about the area may have been based on all the hype one reads about villas, palazzi, gardens, tourists, film stars and wedding events. Most tourists head to busy traps such as Bellagio ( happily mispronouncing it every time), Varenna, Menaggio or Como, paying scant attention to the other 15 or so small villages of Lake Como.
Painted Laglio
A stay in Laglio in late October proved so refreshingly devoid of tourists, I wondered if we had found Italian nirvana. The small village of 600 residents included two tiny alimentari with totally random opening hours, one osteria specialising in local lake fish and a small enoteca which opened after 4 pm. There are more businesses open in the high season. I could happily head back there tomorrow, especially in October, spending a month or so jumping on and off the small ferry that leaves from Carate Urio, a two kilometre walk down the road from Laglio. I am sure that every village would have one local trattoria or osteria. The few that I did manage to visit provided me with exquisite food memories.

Young Giovanni tossed a towel over his shoulder as he herded his siblings down the cobblestoned streets of Laglio, Italy.
They headed to the lake to hang out with the vacation crew. Every summer, a huge group of kids visited Lake Como with their families and usually stayed all summer. This was how Gio met his best friend, Lorenzo Zanetta.
“There you are, fucker!” Lorenzo greeted in Italian, a huge smile on his face. Him and a few others were wading in the shallow waters of the lake while listening to music and drinking beers. “I’ve missed you, brother.”
The two friends shared a hug before Lorenzo began introducing Gio to a few unfamiliar faces. A couple of cousins and a small brunette with a shapely, round ass. A 26-year-old hot blooded man like Gio couldn’t help but notice.
“This is my sister,” Lorenzo introduced as the beauty turned around and smiled. “Now that she’s 18, my dad finally let her come along.”
“Hi,” She walked closer to Gio and he felt his breath hitch. Her brown eyes were like pools of melting chocolate, and he found himself awestruck. “I’m Nicola.”
With his cock twitching and his heart racing, Giovanni internally groaned. He was already hooked… and fucked. His best friend’s sister? Yeah, utterly and completely fucked.

Flash floods wreck homes near George Clooney’s villa on Lake Como
George Clooney has promised to raise funds for locals made homeless by flash floods in Laglio, the town on Lake Como in Italy where he owns a villa.
The American actor and his family were at their lakeside property this week when mud and debris cascaded through the town, submerging nearby properties.
“He came straight to the town hall to see what had happened and we took a tour of the damage,” Laglio mayor Roberto Pozzi told The Times.
“He was really perturbed and said he wanted to help out. We’re raising funds and I think he will be using his own channels to do so too so we can help out people who have been made homeless,” he added. เกมยิงปลาออนไลน์

Here’s why a trip to Italy is incomplete without a visit to Lake Como - travel
Located 51 kilometres away from the industrial Milan, Lake Como has always been the synonym for resort chic, jet set glam and caviar-soaked holidays. Being a George Clooney fan, I was always curious about this gorgeous locale as my friends would often gush about the actor’s summer home here. It’s a well-known fact that the Hollywood icon and his other toffee-nosed friends spend their vacations at his eighteenth-century Villa Oleandra in Laglio. Also, if you’re into fashion then you can’t miss Villa Fontanelle bought by the Italian designer Gianni Versace. A Medusa (an emblem of the late designer’s luxury house) sculpture can be spotted in the lawn from outside. From Milan to Lake ComoI was in Milan for fashion week and thought of ditching a day full of fashion presentations and heading to this beautiful place. You could either reach Como from Milan by train which you could take from the Milan Centrale station or Porta Garibaldi to Como S. Giovanni, a station about 10 minutes walk from the lake front. It’s a beautiful train ride and I’d suggest that you don’t close your eyes and take in the lush greenery and charming cottages dotting the pathway.
B07GW23M7T, B07BS4TJ43Shape of youThe pristine lake is shaped like an upside-down Y, with three slender branches that meet at the resort town of Bellagio. At the bottom of the southwest branch lies the city of Como, home to Renaissance architecture and a funicular that travels up to the mountain town of Brunate. Fresh air, blue sky, vibrant flowers swaying in the mountain wind and swans preening for your attention welcome you, and you immediately feel part of the resort town. Feed the swans in the lake, it’s a beautiful feeling!
Cathedral crushingIf Gothic style of architecture intrigues you and Romanesque and Baroque influences inspire you then I’d strongly recommend you visit the Como Cathedral. Besides the meditative calm, the arts reign supreme in its hallowed precincts - there are distinguished paintings of Gauedenzio Ferrari, of Bernardino Luini, and Morazzone (16th -17th centuries) and the frescoes of the sacristy (first half of the 17th century) if you are an art history buff like me.
HT Photo Aristocracy’s summer retreatSaying that Italians invented the idea of resort getaway back in the day won’t be an exaggeration. For instance, Villa Olmo was designed to be a summer retreat for the aristocracy. The villa was named after an elm tree planted in the middle of the ornate gardens, which is no longer alive today. However, visit the garden once you’re dine touring the villas, hug the trees, sit on a bench and enjoy the Como sun. Also, there’s a cave located behind the villa which is definitely worth a visit. 1631065130An authentic Italian fareTreat yourself to a meal at Ristorante Sociale which doesn’t disappoint and top it off with a scoop of gelato at Gelateria del Borgo. The Lake Como Region of Italy
As Rebecca and I drove across the Swiss border into the Lake Como region of Italy, the clouds darkened and it began to rain. Lake Como, in the Lombardy region of northern Italy, is a posh resort area known for its splendid scenery, set against the backdrop of the Alps. Lake Como has been a popular retreat for the extremely wealthy since Roman times. The actor, George Clooney, fell so in love with the area that he purchased a multi-million dollar mansion in the lakeside community of Laglio. Unfortunately for us, we encountered a dreary, wet and windy afternoon when we entered into Lake Como and our visit there was a very brief one. Along with scattered showers, the heavy clouds brought in a dense fog that limited our visibility and made any picture-taking a real challenge.
A fleeting glimpse of Lake Como from the highway.
Lake Como, the third largest lake in Italy, is 28.5 miles long and 2.8 miles wide at its widest point.
Listed as one of the deepest lakes in Europe, Lake Como has an average depth of 505 feet.
Due to poor weather, much of our exploring was done through the windshield of our car.
American authors Mark Twain and Ernest Hemingway have both visited and written about the Lake Como area.
Among the many noted lakeside communities surrounding Lake Como are, Lecco, Bellagio, Tremezzo, Menaggio, Varenna, and the village of Como itself.
Many movies have been filmed in this area from Ocean’s Twelve to Casino Royale.
Lake Como is the birthplace of Villa Culture inspiring the likes of Leonardo de Vinci.
Rebecca steps out the car to get a better view of Lake Como and the surrounding area.
At the Cemetery Bellagio, Lake Como Region, Italy
The Hotel Villa Aurora in Lezzeno offers their guests a spectacular view of Lake Como, Comacina Island, and the Villa Balbianello.
Many of the shops and businesses in Bellagio appeared to have closed their doors during the winter months. Arriving in the late afternoon, Rebecca and I were practically the only tourists to be found on the nearly empty streets.
While exploring the streets of Bellagio, Rebecca is on a mission to search out some delicious Italian cuisine.
Companies such as Taxi Boat Varenna offer luxury taxi boat rides around the lake.
Being here way outside of tourist season, the streets were nearly deserted around the lake. During the warmer months, these fascinating boat tours allow countless visitors the opportunity to learn about the local Italian history; all the while admiring the breathtaking views of Lake Como surrounded by the majestic snow-capped Alps.
With the sun setting quickly over Lake Como, Rebecca and I made our way back to our car and soon put this beautiful landscape in our rearview mirror. Although the weather was less than desirable, we still enjoyed our short visit along the shores of Lake Como. Perhaps we will return one day when the sun is shining and streets are crowded with festive people. For now, thanks for visiting Big John’s Adventures in Travel. I hope this post motivates you to pack those bags and set out on an adventure all of your own making.
Happy travels,
Big John
