Types of Lab-Grown Diamonds: Shape, Size, and Carat
Lab-grown diamonds are not only an ethical and sustainable choice but also offer the same brilliance and durability as natural diamonds. At Daniela Diamonds in New York, we specialize in exquisite lab-grown diamonds in various shapes, sizes, and carat weights to suit every occasion. Let's explore these attributes to help you make an informed decision.
Diamond Shapes
The shape of a diamond significantly impacts its appearance and brilliance. Here are the most popular lab-grown diamond shapes:
Round BrilliantThe classic round brilliant shape is the most sought-after for its unmatched sparkle. Its symmetrical facets reflect light beautifully, making it a timeless choice for engagement rings and fine jewelry.
Princess CutWith sharp edges and a square shape, the princess cut is perfect for modern and stylish designs. Its unique geometry maximizes brilliance and adds a contemporary flair.
Emerald CutFeaturing a rectangular shape with step-cut facets, emerald-cut diamonds exude elegance and sophistication. Their broad facets highlight clarity, making them ideal for those who prefer understated glamour.
Cushion CutThe cushion cut blends a square shape with rounded edges, resembling a pillow. It offers vintage charm with excellent light dispersion, resulting in a romantic glow.
OvalOval-shaped diamonds elongate the finger and appear larger than their carat weight. Their graceful and versatile shape complements a variety of settings.
Pear ShapeCombining the best of round and marquise cuts, pear-shaped diamonds feature a unique teardrop design that symbolizes individuality and elegance.
MarquiseThe marquise cut maximizes carat weight with its elongated shape and pointed ends, giving a dramatic yet regal appearance.
Heart ShapeA symbol of love and affection, the heart-shaped diamond is perfect for romantic souls looking to express their deepest emotions.
Diamond Sizes
Lab-grown diamonds come in various sizes, ranging from delicate stones to larger ones that make a statement. The size you choose depends on personal preference and the jewelry design. For engagement rings, 1-carat diamonds are a popular choice, but smaller diamonds can create intricate settings, while larger stones deliver stunning impact.
Diamond Carat Weight
Carat weight refers to the physical weight of the diamond. It's crucial to balance carat weight with the other factors like cut and clarity to ensure you get the best value. Popular carat sizes include:
0.5 Carat: Ideal for minimalist designs.
1 Carat: A classic choice for engagement rings.
2 Carat: Perfect for a bold, standout look.
3+ Carats: Best for those who love making a grand statement.

The Rise of Ethical Engagement Rings in London: How Lab Diamonds and Bespoke Jewellery are Shaping the Future of Love.
As consumers have become more conscious about the environmental and social impact of their purchases, there has been a drastic shift in the jewellery industry. People have started purchasing the ethical and sustainable choice, that is lab-grown diamonds. The shift is significant in London, engagement rings which were synonyms with traditionally mined diamonds had shifted to lab diamond engagement rings, and bespoke jewellery. But how are these trends reshaping the way we view commitment and luxury? Let’s explore the rise of ethical engagement rings in London and their lasting impact on the future of love.
1. The Ethical Shift in the Jewellery Industry
In recent years, there has been growing awareness of the environmental and social implications of traditional diamond mining. Mined diamonds are not only just expensive but also drastically harm the environment and the communities that are involved in their extraction. The younger generation, especially millennials and Gen Z, are increasingly prioritizing sustainability and ethics when purchasing engagement rings in London. This has led to an increased demand for bespoke jewellery london.
2. What Are Lab Diamond Engagement Rings?
Lab-grown diamonds have risen to become a popular choice among people. Lab-grown diamonds are ethical and sustainable. They are similar to the traditionally mined diamonds but are an affordable and sustainable choice. The process simulates the natural conditions under which diamonds form, resulting in a gemstone that is virtually indistinguishable from mined diamonds. In today’s generation, as the demand for ethical choices increases, lab-grown diamonds have become a popular choice for engagement rings in london.
3. The Rise of Bespoke Jewellery in London
Alongside the growing demand for lab-grown engagement rings is bespoke jewellery. Many couples have preferred bespoke jewellery to design their engagement ring as per their personal style and preference. An engagement ring is a symbol of love that one may need to carry forever. So, bespoke jewellery allows you to customize and reflect your own personal style. At Allure Jewellers you can customize your ring to reflect your own love story.
Conclusion
As the demand for ethical engagement rings grows, lab diamonds and bespoke jewellery are shaping the future of the jewellery industry in London. These options allow couples to make a meaningful and stylish statement, knowing their ring is not only beautiful but also reflects their values. If you’re looking for an engagement ring that speaks to your unique love story while staying true to your ethical principles, consider exploring the world of lab-grown diamonds and bespoke designs.

Lab-Grown Diamonds Explained: A Complete Resource
What are lab-grown diamonds?
Lab-grown diamonds are diamonds that are created in a controlled environment, using advanced technology that replicates the natural processes that form diamonds deep within the Earth. Unlike natural diamonds, which take millions of years to form, lab-grown diamonds can be produced in just a few weeks. They possess the same physical, chemical, and optical properties as natural diamonds, making them an appealing choice for many consumers, especially those looking for an engagement ring.
How are lab-grown diamonds made?
There are two primary methods for creating lab-grown diamonds: High Pressure High Temperature (HPHT) and Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD).
HPHT: This method mimics the natural process by replicating the high pressure and high temperature conditions found deep in the Earth. A small diamond seed is placed in a chamber with carbon, and over time, the carbon crystallises around the seed, forming a diamond.
CVD: This technique involves placing a diamond seed in a chamber filled with carbon-rich gas. The gas is heated, causing carbon atoms to deposit onto the seed and form a diamond layer by layer.
Both methods produce stunning lab-grown diamonds that are virtually indistinguishable from their natural counterparts.
What The Diamond Pro thinks of lab-grown diamonds

What is the difference between lab-grown and natural diamonds?
The key differences between lab-grown diamonds and natural diamonds lie in their origin and price:
Origin: Natural diamonds are formed over millions of years through geological processes, while lab-grown diamonds are created in a matter of weeks in a lab setting.
Price: Lab-grown diamonds are typically 20-40% less expensive than natural diamonds, allowing buyers to purchase larger or higher-quality stones within their budget.
Both types of diamonds share identical physical properties, making them equally suitable for engagement rings.
Are lab-grown diamonds worth much?
Lab-grown diamonds have been gaining traction in the jewellery market, and while their value is generally lower than that of natural diamonds, they hold significant worth for many consumers. Their affordability allows buyers to invest in larger or higher-quality stones, making them an attractive option for those on a budget. As awareness grows, many consumers are recognising the value of lab-grown diamonds, especially for meaningful purchases like an engagement ring.
How much do lab-grown diamonds cost compared to natural ones?
On average, lab-grown diamonds can cost 20-40% less than natural diamonds. For instance, a natural diamond may cost £5,000, while a similar quality lab-grown diamond might be priced around £3,000. This price difference makes lab-grown diamonds an appealing choice for those looking to maximise their budget without compromising on quality.
Should you buy lab-created diamonds?
If you’re considering an engagement ring, lab-grown diamonds present a fantastic option. They are ethically sourced, environmentally friendly, and offer excellent value for money. Additionally, the technological advances in creating these diamonds mean they are virtually indistinguishable from natural ones, ensuring that your engagement ring will be stunning and meaningful.

It's all marketing. The price of natural diamonds is hugely inflated and the supply is tightly controlled to keep it that way, with decades of marketing working to keep demand high enough to support that price.
Lab-grown/synthetic diamonds are just as real as natural dug-from-the-ground diamonds, except they can be even purer. The only limit on size is how long you're willing to wait for carbon to be deposited on the crystal from whatever production method is being used. The color can be precisely controlled by adding other ingredients, just like how natural diamonds are colored by impurities from when they formed.
The growing availability of inexpensive lab-grown diamonds is an existential threat to the current diamond industry, so the industry is actively working to make people think lab-grown diamonds aren't real diamonds, or aren't as good as natural ones, and you should totally spend hundreds or thousands of dollars on a tiny (flammable!) stone dug from the ground by poorly-treated workers in an environmentally-damaging mine instead of buying one manufactured for a fraction of the price.
(Seriously, I googled "lab-grown diamonds" while writing this, and the top suggestion was "Why not to buy". If you want a pretty rock, just go with the synthetic. It'll be equal or better quality for a fraction of the exploitation and cost.)

If big, flawless diamonds are no longer even plausibly rare or difficult to source, then people who want a diamond of any sort can simply choose the size and shape that suits them best and not worry about their budget—or about what their diamond says about their position within old-fashioned ideas of status and hierarchy. Except, well, what if all of that is still sort of the point? Lots of people want to give or receive big diamonds because of their implications, not in spite of them—especially when it comes to wedding jewelry, where price is so freighted with meaning. … “If they start selling for $1,000, let’s say, instead of the $8,000 that they might be selling for today, are women going to feel comfortable with that being the price of their engagement ring, even though it is a diamond?” … The expense itself has always been what makes the ring meaningful.
Humans are irrational.

If you are wondering which of the natural and lab-grown diamonds are real, both are real as they are composed of the same chemical. In 2018, the Federal Trade Commission released an updated guidelines ruling that lab-made diamonds are not synthetic but lab-grown diamonds. The natural and lab-grown diamonds have the same optical and chemical properties, making them lovely gems for any type of jewelry. Below are reasons why lab-grown diamonds are preferred over natural diamonds.
