Swimming

The rain is falling on the swimming pool. I take a deep breath and dive in. I let myself float on the cold water. I close my eyes and dream away. "Raine, why are you wearing swimming trunks?" I look up at my cousin. He is 6 years old, so I can't blame him. I wear a swim trunk because i feel really uncomfortable in a bikini or a swimsuit. My cousin wants to go down the slide. I look at the people in the line for the big yellow slide. They where all touching each other. I don't want to stand there. So i yelled that i was going to find the bathroom. Now my uncle is about my swim trunk. I am out to my family but i think my unkle doesn't understands me. "Because I'm not a girl," I explain. He nods and goes way. I think he gets it now.

Separately: The mutants in X-Men have also been regarded as an allegory for LGBTQ people. This is entirely compatible with the idea of mutants as the contemporary equivalent to Jews in 1930s Germany. Jews then and LGBTQ people now are handy groups for a certain class of politician to use for fear-mongering, to get people to vote for "us" because otherwise you are on the side of "them". Think "If you don't vote for us then your children will be transgendered without your consent!" and similar rhetoric.

(And even without that wider view, being ostracized from society because of some intrinsic aspect of yourself will/did sadly resonate with a lot of LTBTQ youth)

magneto is the best villain of all time. any media. magneto is the villain you write papers about, the one you dissect over and over. he is the pinnacle of a sympathetic villain because he isn’t a villain. to mutants, to those ostracized, he is the hero, not the villain. he is made of the same violent revolution the haitian revolution, the american revolution, the french revolution all exemplify. he is an allegory for change, villified but sympathetic, and magneto is one of, if not the best, fictional characters ever created
