Why Is Love So Hard?

A gift present for every one of us is love. It is available every day, however, not everyone knows how to receive the gift of love. Likewise, not everyone knows how to give true agape love.

To understand love one must grasp that it is unconditional. Love is not measured by being able to love the people who love you back (Matthew 5:6). It's unconditional, a sad reality is many don't understand this. So much so that some people don't love themselves. They keep a record of their wrongdoings which is not a characteristic of love.

The point, the reason why love is so hard, has to do with truthfulness. We can't love others without first knowing how to love ourselves. Not that self-centered selfish love that the world says is okay. No, it's about loving the way God has instructed us to, how Jesus confirmed for us to love. We have to first love God and then ourselves in order to love others.

How can one truly love someone when they lie about loving themselves?

It is impossible for us to love anyone when we hate the one we spend our entire lives with. Think about it, go deep down if you need to. Think of a time where you were extremely harsh on someone, was it truly about that person or your insecurities?

Stop pretending to love yourself! Love is bigger than proclaiming to love yourself. How do you treat yourself? What do you think about yourself? How do you show that you love yourself? If you aren't sure search how you treat others. Because we are called to love people as we love ourselves (Matthew 2:39), it's often that the love we project is how we practice self-love. If you are hard on yourself, you will be hard on others. If you lie to yourself you'll lie to others.

Be kind to yourself. Learn to love yourself, yes, even your flaws. The more you practice loving yourself the easier it becomes to love and accept others.

A man once asked me, “Why were you interested in me? I don’t have money, nice clothes or a house.” And the question caught me by surprise, so much so that I actually chuckled. How silly he was to think that’s what I was after—that when I looked at him, that’s what I saw—some sort of wealth, some sort of gain, some sort of tangible, monetary reason why I was interested in him.⠀ ⠀ It was never that. Never about fancy clothes or cars; never about financial status or even selfish reasons. It was about his smile, about the way he made me laugh, about his personality and who he was. Not what he had. But to this day, his question makes me wonder.⠀ ⠀ Why is it that we think ‘all’ we have to offer is what we have—our possessions, our things, our ‘stuff’ rather than our souls? Why do we see what we have as more important that who we are?⠀ ⠀ And when it comes down to it, what do we really have? At the end of the day, the money means nothing, the house will crumble, the job is merely an endless task to keep us busy, the shoes and purses and cars will scuff and break and cease to run. These are only activities, only objects. Neither define, nor reflect who we really are.⠀ ⠀ When we fall in love with someone, when we choose to intertwine our hearts with one another, we want to give, want to share, want to open and offer all of ourselves—but this isn’t about the physical, tangible things. This is about our heart, our emotion, our love.⠀ ⠀ We can offer all the jewels in the world, all the gold, all the silver, all the diamonds. We can shower our partners with expensive vacations, with spa treatments, with sneakers and hats and steak dinners. But what, of those things, truly matters when it comes to a deeper connection? What, of those things, will outlast us, will strengthen our bond?⠀ ⠀ What, of those things, comes from us as people, and not simply material gains of this world?⠀ ⠀ We simply cannot offer any more of ourselves than our hearts. OF COURSE I PICKED THE MOON FILTER FOR THE NEW MOON RITUAL! 😍🤘🏾🌬🤷🏾‍♀️🌚🤘🏾 . . . Baby steps for this chick. I’ve always kept so much inside, I experience things very strongly and internalize and repress most of what I feel. This is obviously shocking to everybody I know, because I can be quite gregarious and talkative, especially if I feel comfortable around you. However, I always have to pull back and recharge. Plug in, reboot, unplug for a while... then I’m back as charismatic and enthusiastic as ever. In a perfect world where I understood self care from day, day one, (or 2000, any time sooner would have been sweet 😅🤭🤫😁) I may have developed into the kind of person who always has a lot to give whenever I make time to see people and go out, and I would be so strong with my boundaries that I would always follow my intuition instead of dancing along after every tasty thing I see, regardless of if it serves me or helps me. However, I’ve found in my story, that I can still develop into that. It is not impossible for me to be happy and live the dream life. I just have to believe, believe in myself, and believe in this strength that has gotten me this far, this surrender, this bending and breaking and cutting and morphing and metamorphosis I’ve undergone through accept the responsibility for where I am now. You’ll find no victim - shaming or faith-shaming from me... now I strongly and confidently stand alongside Christians, pagans, atheists, Muslims, Sikhs, Jews, anyone who feels isolated or repressed or attacked because of your beliefs - we are free to worship as we wish, and we stand in solidarity and love with each other. Making a commitment to myself to hold space for myself and there myself. To stand up for myself. To stop backing down when I know in my heart what is true for me.
