Izzy's death was good, actually.

One of the best things about the show is how it plays with genre. There's nods and influences to the stylistic trappings of other genres all the time. Horror with the Kraken, historical drama with the british navy, comedy with Stede, romcom with... half the cast at this point. And Izzy is a grimdark pirate sadboy.

Our flag means DEATH. piracy is brutal, you can devote your entire life to it and it won't repay you at the end. The title isn't just for funsies, it's Chekhov's gun and it's been with us the whole time.

What Izzy did get, though, was a chance to live for a moment in another genre. He got to feel genuine love and friendship. After Ed shot him and he lost his leg, he came to the dramatic conclusion of his pirate arc. He makes the transition to ensemble comedy, he gets to experience belonging and love and all the things he talks about in his final speech.

But Izzy is a grimdark pirate. He knows he's gotten more joy and love than he was ever supposed to get. He could have gotten more, if only he weren't the legendary pirate Israel Hands. But he is. And he knows he is.

isabelle adjani: this is like the one i personally see the most (like if it's a REALLY good day for me) and its totally an ego boost cuz she's gorgeous and possession (1981) is one of my fave movies. the first time i got it was from that starsbyface website in like 2022 and i posted it to my cf story and people were all like "no i totally see it" so 9/10 a win is a win

lana del rey: we don't look alike whatsoever. i mean don't get me wrong i wish i looked like her but we have virtually none of the same features. ive been compared to her in the honeymoon/lust for life era three times now (one of them being a friend the other two were ppl i had classes with) and like i know for the fact the only reason i get those comparisons is cuz we're both pale white chicks with long brown hair. still a 10/10 cuz even though i know it's not accurate it always makes me feel like hot shit.

april ludgate: NOT aubrey plaza. have been compared to her multiple times because we have the same voice (monotone hot girl syndrome) 5/10 cuz im not sure whether or not it's supposed to be a compliment

samantha robinson: i got this one time from a girl vaping in the bathroom at school and i hold it so close to my heart. again def a case of "pale skin/dark brown hair= camryn" but i don't even care cuz im so in love with elaine parks (and if u squint real hard from afar u actually can see it a little) 100/10

It was bad enough Richard found himself being forced into some fancy, work outing, but what made all matters worse was the fact that the dress code specifically called for him to wear a bowtie. This was not his evening. Still, the fact that Isabelle was coming as his date certainly helped placed a silver lining on top of things. “Is, would ye’ mind helpin’ me with this? I was ne’er good with bowties,” he chuckled sheepishly as he handed Isabelle his undone tie. Richard had just tilted his neck up so as to provide her with more space to help bind his tie when, instead of feeling the tips of her fingers ghost against his collar, he instead felt the familiar touch of Isabelle’s lips.

It seems a hint of his collarbone was peaking out from behind his buttoned up shirt. Thank god for that too, as all at once the bowtie was quickly forgotten about. Richard continued to tilt his head up as Isabelle continued to trace lingering kisses against his clavilcle, her lips memorizing its curves and broad ridges, whilst her fingers worked endlessly at unbuttoning his shirt. “Y’know we’re gonna be la’e, righ’?” he smirked. Not that they cared. They didn’t care a bit.
