As a continuation of my last ask (*gently holds my last ask's response* ❤️ 🥺🥹):

After a good while of playing with Delta's hair, I'd go get some food and snacks, including popcorn ("Stay put, I'll be right back."), then come back and set the snacks/food within easy each of both of us ("Help yourself; there's plenty more where that came from.").

Then I'd put on a wholesome movie and sit next to him with my arm around his blanket-covered shoulders, and keep playing with his hair while watching the movie, gently easing out any possible tangles and just leaving in a couple of small braids on the sides.

If it's late at night, I'd tell him, "You can sleep if you want, it's okay."

In the event that he does fall asleep, once the movie's over, I'd carry him to bed and tuck him in, give him a kiss on the forehead, and leave any leftover snacks/food in a doggy bag for him next to his bed, along with the blanket he was wrapped up in, with a note that makes it clear that the blanket and food are for him.

If he's awake enough after the movie, I'd ask him how he liked the movie ("Yes, I genuinely want to know."), give him the leftover food to take with him ("This is for you, for whenever you want. I've got plenty."), and tell him to keep the blanket (and gently insist if I have to). Then I'd escort him to his bed, one hand lightly on his shoulder, and wish him goodnight, petting his head and adjusting his hair one more time before leaving.

He is almost intoxicated by the continuous affection. Though he stays put when you ask, his eyes follow you a bit mournfully as you pull away, even given the reassurance of your return.

He thanks you for the food, though he’s a bit shy at the prospect of actually eating in front of you. 

He is very pliable when you touch him again. He’s trained to be. He knows not to move. But this is different, somehow. He wouldn’t move even if he wanted to. Incredibly, he almost relaxes into the touch. He tells himself he would not allow himself to, if it were not so late at night, if he wasn’t so tired and if he wasn’t so sad.

But he stays awake throughout the movie. It’s strange to have his attention devoted so completely to any one thing — and then to have that thing not be his work.

He gives a soft exhale at the permission to sleep — not an affirmation, nor an honorific. He is exhausted, but he doesn’t want to close his eyes just yet. He’s fine when everything is already soft and hazy. He already feels like he’s dreaming.

"Yes, I genuinely want to know."

He frowns a little bit at that, but it’s really not your fault. It just makes him melancholic, for reasons he can’t fully explain. You notice his comments about the movie are mostly observational, not expressing any real viewpoint. It’s a trick he’s learned. He’s more than willing to hear your thoughts, though.

He accepts the food — and he will eat it later, once he’s alone. He thanks you for it as well as the blanket. You do not need to insist that he keeps that. He keeps it wrapped tightly around his shoulders. It’s just…soft. He thanks you again, quieter this time, and lets himself be led back to his own bed.

He closes his eyes when you pet his head again, but it isn’t a flinch. He’s just savoring it. 

Even if he never sees you again, he is going to remember this forever.
