yea he got annoyed with tanjiro but he already hates him and imagine ur crush hanging out closely with someone u despise. I doubt he would be like that with EVERYONE that talks with her considering she's like the sweetest and most outgoing person there 🙁.

I love their relationship and yea he IS much more sweet to her but being totally jealous is WILD.

I Told Him His Name Was Natsuki

canon divergence au: After Tanjiro turns into a demon, he runs away. Since nobody can find him or anything that might be his, they assume he's dead. Fatal mistake, Tanjiro's way more stubborn than that.

Part 3/4: Rip It Off Like A Bandaid

Yushiro never expected how attached to Tanjiro he'd get. But, he supposed it was a given. He did decide to raise the kid after all.

Natsuki was a nice kid. He was affectionate, talkative, energetic and weirdly mature. When Yushiro first met Tanjiro, he'd seen a child who'd seen hell and had fierce determination in his eyes. Natsuki was like a dimmed down version of that. A Tanjiro who got to live a normal life (not exactly normal, but less hellish than his life as a demon slayer).

Natsuki loved dancing under the sun and singing at night. The damn cat adored him too. As decades flew by and they both lost track of time, Natsuki started looking more and more human. His fangs dulled, his nails shrank and his pupils weren't slits. He slept at night and lived in daylight. Never once did he crave flesh. All he needed was the sun on his skin and food in his belly. Yushiro almost believed he was human.

Except, he didn't.

No, how could he- how could he when Natsuki never aged at all. How could he when all that he saw when he looked at his (practically) son was Tanjiro's transformation (the smell of burning, the hopelessness, the terror).

But, what surprised Yushiro most was how the boy never questioned anything how he'd accepted everything Yushiro said without a single doubt. It unnerved Yushiro to no end. Strangely enough, it was also a relief. Yushiro had all the time in the world to tell Natsuki (quite literally, with the whole immortality thing). The point is, he tried not to think about it.

But all hope of avoiding confrontation evaporated when Natsuki finally lost patience.

It happened when the two were having their tea (well, it was actually just Natsuki drinking some while he talked to Yushiro, he was still too dependent on those blood donations he had when Lady Tamayo was around. He wasn't some miracle like the Kamados). Natsuki was unusually quiet. After a few minutes of awkward silence, Yushiro asked him what was wrong.

"I- It's nothing," Natsuki stopped and sighed, "Actually, no. It is something"

He took a deep breath.

"I'm not human, am I?"

Yushiro's heart stopped.

"What makes you think that?," He said, laughed nervously.

Natsuki set his cup down with a hard 'smack'.

"Sorry," He said between clenched teeth as he rolled up his left sleeve, "I just noticed something rather interesting"

"Which is...?"

Natsuki pulled a blade out of his other sleeve and slashed his arm.

"Natsuki...?"

Natsuki raised his arm, fully displaying the way the wound bubbled up and closed.

They both didn't dare speak.

Yushiro stared as the blood dripped down Natsuki's arm and onto the floorboards. There really was no running away from it, was there? (Better rip it off like a bandaid, an old, already dead, part of him says).

"What am I?," Natsuki said through tears.

"You're a demon"

"What?," He whispers.

"A demon. You used to be human, we all were. But now we're not"

Natsuki doesn't say anything, he just stares.

Yushiro decides to continue.

"Demons normally eat humans for inhuman strength and healing. We can't stay under sunlight, it burns us. The only other way to kill us is cutting our head off with a demon slayer's blade," Yushiro stops to breathe, "We are cursed"

"We're both demons aren't we? You kept saying 'we'"

Yushiro nods.

"But wait! Why don't I need to eat humans? How can I stay under the sun??"

"You're different; your sister too. You were both special. Neither of you ever needed to eat humans, you overcame the curse and ascended"

"Wait- I have a sister?"

"You did, she was a demon too but she got a cure and was turned back into a human. I believe she died thirteen years ago"

"What-"

"This is going to take a while, I suggest you clean that blood of your arm first"

Natsuki screeches, apparently just realising that yes, he has blood on his arm and it is dripping everywhere, oh it's also burning the floor.

Telling Natsuki helped, helped a lot actually.

Natsuki told him that he forgave him the next night. Yushiro asked if he wanted to meet with any of his other family but Natsuki declined.

"I'm not really Tanjiro anymore until I remember everything," He smiled, "I'm going to wait till I do and then go meet my other family"

"Other family?," Yushiro raised an eyebrow.

"Yeah, I have two. Neat right?," Natsuki laughs, "You and Chachamaru"

"The damn cat?"

"Hey! He's part of the family too-"

"You only say that because he actually likes you"

"Otosan!"
