England fans may have wished he hadn't bothered to screen the team's Euro 2024 match against Slovakia
30 Jun 2024 by Jess Battison
Glastonbury fans found an incredible way to watch England vs Slovakia this evening (30 June) after the festival announced it wouldn’t be shown.
Yep, even if it wasn’t quite worth getting creative for, people on Worthy Farm didn't miss out all thanks to a ‘hero’ celebrity.
While Shania Twain smashed out bangers for the Glastonbury Legends slot and others got ready to secure a decent spot for SZA’s closing performance tonight, others flocked to the campsite to watch the lads in the Euros.
That’s because despite how big and amazing the festival might be, with plenty of spots for crowds to gather and watch the acts, the organisers decided not to show the football.
Emily Eavis said the festival had set up a screen to watch matches in the past but things are different now.
"We used to have a screen here as no-one had any means of finding out what even the result was because we were so cut off from the outside," the organiser said.
"Now obviously, everyone's connected, and I think you know it's a music festival. I'm sure if people want to see it enough, they can check for results or whatever on their phones. But hopefully I'm encouraging people to put their phones away and forget about the outside world.”
Well, looks like Glasto-goers have found their own way to be 'connected' and find the 'outside world' from the campsite as viral snaps shared on X show a huge crowd gathered around a telly nestled between tents.
TV critic Scott Bryan wrote: “Incredible that someone bought a full size television to Glastonbury to watch the England game.”
Oh, and the ‘hero’ who apparently set up said telly? Former One Direction star Louis Tomlinson. His hairstylist Lou Teasdale confirmed the rumours with a Instagram story of the TV saying: "@louist91 absolute legend setting the footy up."
Yep, people are calling the star an absolute ‘king’ for sorting Glasto-goers out
“Louis Tomlinson the LEGEND he is,” many agreed.
Others echoed: “That's our @Louis_Tomlinson king s**t right there, the man cannot miss an England (or championship) game!”
Fans even called the star a ‘man of the people’ as he hooked campers up with the football.
However, as England fell behind in the first half, some have dubbed it the ‘Louis Tomlinson effect’ as many joked: “They’ll be switching it off soon.”
Well, hey at least the Glasto-goers can join us in this shared stress.
