The day my husband and I were leaving for DC, a YouTuber I like dropped a video about how the L’Enfant Plaza shopping mall is basically a dead mall, but the thing that struck me were all of the shots of the gorgeous Metro station itself. I took a walk down to see it for myself and wandered through the quasi-dead mall to get there, but it didn’t strike me as dead so much as it was mostly being a giant food court during the week most days. 

The nice thing is that they have a staircase that will take you directly back to the Hilton’s lobby, which is a lovely convenience during bad weather and the like.

En Buenos Aires, Argentina, Azucena Villafor de Vicenti y otras 13 madres se manifiestan por primera vez, y con gran valentía, en la Plaza de Mayo, frente a la sede del gobierno (Casa Rosada), para solicitar información de sus hijos secuestrados, torturados y asesinados por la dictadura militar, considerada como la más sangrienta de la historia del país, caracterizada por una constante violación de los Derechos Humanos. Ante la orden policial de no detenerse ni agruparse, sino circular, las Madres deciden caminar alrededor de la mencionada Plaza. (Hace 47 años)

Concluye la guerra de Vietnam al anunciar el gobierno de Saigón su rendición incondicional a las fuerzas de Vietnam del Norte. El presidente Duong Van Minh, que ha estado en el cargo sólo tres días, hace el anuncio en una emisión de radio a la nación a primeras horas de esta mañana, solicitando a sus fuerzas que depongan las armas y pidiendo al Ejército de Vietnam del Norte y del Vietcong que pongan fin a todas las hostilidades. El anuncio es seguido rápidamente por la llegada de tropas de Vietnam del Norte, que entran en la ciudad prácticamente sin oposición. (Hace 49 años)

Los Reyes Católicos ordenan que dos carabelas que están atracadas en el puerto de Palos de la Frontera (Huelva, España), que están allí condenadas a servir la Corona durante dos meses, se pongan al servicio de Cristóbal Colón y que además se les pague cuatro meses adicionales al precio habitual para completar los seis meses que se prevé durará la travesía proyectada por Colón. La Corona reduce de esta manera los gastos de la expedición y vincula a ella a los expertos marinos de Palos. For Christmas, my sister gave me a little inexpensive film camera after witnessing many months of antics on the digital camera and I only remembered it like two weeks later when I was back in DC🤨

It's sooo cute and I lopped on a bunch of stickers so yeah it just looks great among my other belongings (epic keys, epic wallet, etc.). But also I totally fucked up on choosing film (wrong ISO+it has no flash☠️) and I overestimated the brightness many times and just assumed foolishly that everything would look like it did in the viewfinder. Which is a shame generally but this was a trial roll which I was like okayyy I'll let myself totally fuck up. I used the last half of the roll while walking to therapy (I have one in-person session like every other week), which also happened to be the last gorgeous day in DC. Weather is currently bollocks. Anyway, here are two of my favorites among the few salvageable💔 Firstly, a mile-long walkway that connects the terminals at Reagan, and secondly the view from an overpass just past L'Enfant Plaza—a lot of rigid lines and urban hell in this set because the horses were not out all week💔

This is kinda difficult tbh!!! But now I know...They left me a note because I was failing so hard✊ I'm gonna march in there and defend my honor "it was my first time 😭!!" and then get my negatives😭😭

This Fall-Themed Exhibit Mixes Interactive Art With Augmented Reality Cocktails

Finding our way back to a complicated parking garage can be daunting, exemplifying a classic wicked design problem. Typically, there are no issues parking at L'Enfant Plaza and heading to the Wharf by foot—though parking at the Wharf itself is a different story. However, the real challenge comes when it's time to return to the garage. Last night marked the third time we got lost trying to locate the actual garage where we had parked. The lack of clear signage or directives leading us to the correct garage made the experience frustrating. From what I understand, there are two (or maybe even three) garages at the Plaza, which only adds to the confusion. If the parking garages were included in every map directory displayed upstairs inside the Plaza, it would significantly improve the parking experience. The current setup clearly needs a design overhaul to better guide visitors and eliminate unnecessary stress.

The end of L’Enfant Plaza and the promenade is an overlook that contains Benjamin Banneker Park, a small park but one that’s important as it’s the first park in DC dedicated to a Black person. Banneker was a true Renaissance man during the colonial period as he was “a farmer, a mathematician, an inventor, an astronomer, a writer, a surveyor, a scientist, and a humanitarian,” and he assisted Pierre Charles L’Enfant in surveying the boundaries of Washington, DC. 

It’s not a big park, but the fountains were running despite the chilly weather  and you can get some really lovely views. The rest of the area is pretty minimal on the landscaping, but I really like that there is a lovely little path to take you down to the waterfront to enjoy the shops and restaurants at the Wharf.
