What's so funny about Bashir's first scene with Garak is that his awkward reactions to him, while officially because he's like 'fuck why is this Cardassian chatting with me', totally read as someone who isn't handling their attraction to someone else well. :rofl:

The funny thing is, it's admirable of Bashir to want to take on a challenging post with minimal resources. Ignoring the humanitarian value (which may not have mattered as much to early S1 Bashir), seeking out new challenges and stuff is just... good? Learning to do a lot with a little is a praiseworthy thing.
But damn did he say it in the most patronizing way in Episode 1, and to the worst person to say it do.

That changeling pretending to be Miles says "there's only 4 Changelings" as if 4 doesn't mean they couldn't do a ton of damage.
Also, the one pretending to be Miles quite literally had no incentive to tell Sisko what he did unless he was afraid of Leyton's tactics.
