I like to headcanon Bang as Desi (I mean, her name’s literally Bangladesh), so here is a (bad) sketch of Bang in a sari with a kirpan to wish y’all a happy Diwali. I didn’t have any colored pencils on hand, so this is unfortunately uncolored.
Notes on the outfit below the cut:
I’ve always seen Bang’s forehead skull as equivalent to a bindi, which Hindus wear to symbolize the third eye. I made the skull the central motif of her kundan, since that is the kind of necklace that would be worn in this situation.
Bang is not wearing any bangles because those would make too much noise while she attempts to sneak around.
Her usual hoops have been replaced with jhumkas, which are traditional earrings meant to resemble temple bells. Jhumkas don’t make that much noise and also look vaguely like skulls.
She isn’t wearing a dupatta because that would fall off, so she’s pinned her sari to the shoulder of her blouse instead. The sari, if I’d had colored pencils at hand, would be red with a gold and black trim.
Bang gets a kirpan because none of her normal blades go with this outfit.
#girl genius#my art#fanart#bang dupree#happy diwali y’all!#this is the first year i’m celebrating it on my own and in all honesty i don’t know if i’ll do anything for it

HMMMM how aboooutt [groom] and or [open] for Jinana and Nadia because I’m gay and also “if I’m a top, and you’re a top, then who’s flying the plane?” is my favorite :3c
[ Acts of Dominance ]
Jinana fidgets only a little bit as the yards and yards of the tissue-thin sari are pleated and wound around hir body, tucked neatly and pinned into place. The sleeves of the choli are stiff with the finest golden zardosi work s/he has ever seen, the pallav of the sari heavy with it.
"I knew it would flatter you." Nadia smiles, lifting a fantastical kundan necklace from its box, draping its heavy coolness over Jinana's throat and collarbones, her nimble fingers fastening the clasp in back. The piece drips with emeralds and diamonds, and s/he cannot begin to imagine how costly it must be. Matching earrings are hooked around hir ears, in the old style, and a gemmed tikka rests on hir forehead. Bangles of hammered gold clink and clash around hir wrists and ankles - many of these, too, set with diamonds and emeralds.
Nadia knows that this is something that Jinana allows, because it pleases the Countess so much to adorn hir so and to show hir off. It may even be a sort of vicarious indulgence in the sort of Prakran finery that she does not feel she should be sporting herself, given her own role as the Countess of Vesuvia.
"Ah, perfection." She lifts one of Jinana's hands to her plum-colored lips, brushing them ever so lightly against the backs of hir hennaed fingers. "As beautiful as a rani of legend." Jinana feels the blood rising into hir cheeks, but to demur is to spoil Nadia's joy in all of this, and that s/he will not do.
Nadia takes hir elbow gently, leading hir to the door - but before she can open it and usher hir through, a small gesture and a word cause the carved wooden panel to swing open of its own accord.
Nadia lifts one elegant, quizzical brow... then smiles in understanding, slipping her warm hand into Jinana's. They sweep through the door together, side by side, and it closes itself behind them.

Indian bridal jewellery is a timeless symbol of tradition, culture, and heritage. It not only adds charm to the bride’s appearance but also carries sentimental and spiritual significance. From intricately designed necklaces to delicate anklets, each piece is a work of art that enhances the bride’s beauty and narrates a story of age-old craftsmanship. In this guide, we explore the must-have Indian Bridal jewellery Indian pieces that complete a bride’s look.
1. Maang Tikka
The maang tikka is an essential piece that adorns the bride’s forehead, symbolizing the union of two souls. It is typically a single ornament with a central pendant that rests on the forehead, attached to a chain placed along the parting of the hair.
Popular Designs:
Kundan Maang Tikkas: Known for their elaborate designs and gemstone detailing.
Polki Maang Tikkas: Featuring uncut diamonds for a regal look.
Passa Style: A side-swept variation, often chosen for a Mughal-inspired bridal look.
Styling Tips:
Match the maang tikka with your necklace and earrings for a cohesive look.
Consider your face shape; smaller pendants suit petite faces, while larger designs complement broader features.
2. Necklaces
Indian brides often wear multiple necklaces, each layered to create a rich and opulent effect. From chokers to long haar, necklaces are the centerpiece of bridal jewellery.
Types of Necklaces:
Choker: Sits snugly around the neck and pairs well with low-cut blouses.
Rani Haar: A long necklace, often adorned with intricate designs and gemstones.
Satlada: A seven-layered necklace, offering a royal and extravagant appeal.
Styling Tips:
Layer different lengths and styles for a regal look.
Ensure the necklaces complement your neckline and overall attire.
3. Earrings
Earrings are a statement piece that frames the bride’s face. They range from simple studs to elaborate chandbalis and jhumkas.
Popular Styles:
Jhumkas: Bell-shaped earrings that exude traditional charm.
Chandbalis: Moon-shaped earrings, ideal for a royal look.
Studs with Chains: Connected to the hair for additional support and a unique appearance.
Styling Tips:
Balance the size of your earrings with your hairstyle and other jewellery pieces.
Opt for lighter designs if you’re wearing a heavily embellished outfit.
4. Nose Ring (Nath)
The nath is a traditional piece that symbolizes a bride’s beauty and grace. Worn on the left nostril, it’s often connected to the hair with a delicate chain.
Popular Variations:
Kundan Nath: Studded with gemstones for an elegant look.
Simple Hoop Nath: Minimalistic yet impactful.
Elaborate Nath: Features intricate designs for a statement look.
Styling Tips:
Choose a nath that matches your facial features and the rest of your jewellery.
If you don’t have a nose piercing, opt for clip-on styles.
5. Bangles and Kadas
They symbolize prosperity and marital bliss.
Types of Bangles:
Glass Bangles: Traditional and colorful, often worn in multiples.
Gold Kadas: Chunky gold bangles with intricate detailing.
Chooda: A set of red and white bangles, significant in Punjabi weddings.
Styling Tips:
Mix and match bangles of different materials and designs.
Avoid over-stacking to maintain balance with other jewellery.
6. Waist Belt (Kamarbandh)
A kamarbandh accentuates the bride’s waist and adds a touch of elegance. It is usually a gold or silver chain adorned with embellishments.
Popular Styles:
Simple Chain Belts: Minimalistic and chic.
Gemstone-Studded Belts: Add color and sparkle to the attire.
Traditional Gold Belts: Engraved with motifs and intricate patterns.
Styling Tips:
Ensure the belt sits comfortably and doesn’t overshadow the outfit.

7. Anklets and Toe Rings
Anklets and toe rings complete the bridal ensemble, especially in South bridal jewellery. They symbolize the bride’s marital status and are usually crafted in silver.
Styles to Consider:
Traditional Silver Anklets: With bells that produce a soft jingling sound.
Gemstone Anklets: Add a modern twist with colorful stones.
Toe Rings: Often paired with matching anklets for a cohesive look.
Styling Tips:
Opt for lightweight designs for comfort.
Coordinate the anklets with your footwear and outfit.
8. Headpiece (Matha Patti)
A matha patti is an elaborate headpiece that frames the face and elevates the bridal look. It’s an extension of the maang tikka, with additional chains that drape over the hairline.
Popular Variations:
Single Chain: A subtle and elegant choice.
Multiple Chains: For a dramatic and royal look.
Gemstone-Studded: Adds a touch of color and vibrancy.
Styling Tips:
Secure the matha patti with pins to keep it in place throughout the day.
Coordinate with your earrings and necklace for a cohesive look.
9. Rings and Hathphool
Rings and hathphool (hand harnesses) are intricate jewellery pieces that adorn the bride’s hands.
Styles to Explore:
Solitaire Rings: Simple yet sophisticated.
Hathphool: Connects the ring to a bracelet with delicate chains.
Styling Tips:
Match the design of your rings and hathphool with your bangles.
Ensure they don’t interfere with the henna design on your hands.
Final Thoughts
Indian bridal jewellery is more than just accessories; it is a reflection of the bride’s personality, heritage, and the significance of her special day. By carefully selecting and styling these must-have pieces, a bride can achieve a look that is both traditional and uniquely hers. Whether you opt for classic designs or modern interpretations, the right jewellery will ensure you shine brightly on your big day
