"Bade bade deshon mein aisi choti choti baatein hoti rehti hain, senorita!"
Song : Tujhe dekha toh
Movie: Dilwale Dulhania le jayenge
Singers : Kumar Sanu, Lata Mangeshkar
Lyrics: Anand Bakshi
Thank you @bhadkilibiryani for suggesting this song ❤️ This is one of my favourite movies with Kajol and SRK. What I love in this movie is the journey of falling in love. Finding the right one for you, that someone could be anywhere and you'll never know until you see them and feel that this is the one. It reminds me of Brida by Coelho and the soulmate theory presented in it.
I love all the songs in Dilwale Dulhania le jayenge including "Zara sa jhoom loon mein" and "mere khwabon mein jo aaye".

01.02.24 im making my peace with knowing my favorite musical genre are fucking soundtracks
cabaret / liza minelli: this is the definition of fantastic. wow. almost desperately lively. which i guess fits the scene, but i havent watched the movie:( also, that ‘tomorrow belongs to me’? that was fucking scary. made me feel surrounded…..
let me drown / orville peck: what a voice, man. i need to listen to him live eventually. feels like he’s so lost…. what vulnerability!
pimp / bacao rhythm & steel band: have yall seen ‘anatomy of a fall’? it’s so immersive, it had me transfixed. and well. this 50 cent cover is really catchy, what can i say
yunhi kat jaayega / kumar sanu & alka yagnik: one day i felt like listening to something bollywood because i like the grand scale of some of their musicals. stumbled upon this song from ‘hum hain rahi pyar ke’ and loved it. i didnt even know what the movie was about until a couple of seconds ago
portuguese dance ii / jerskin fendrix: this one is from ‘poor things’. witnessing a person grow and develop into themselves in 2 hours was fascinating, and so was the soundtrack. i really liked some of the design choices for the spaces, but i grew tired of the oversaturated skies and how clear it was that all exterior scenes were sets. i dont like when you can feel the real scale in how the fictional scale is presented
perfect illusion / lady gaga: i was never really a stan, but i did make my twitter account just so i could vote for gaga in whatever awards. and saying she’s my favorite artist is also my Official Stance, but i dont listen much to her (old policy of mine so i dont get tired of the songs i really really like, u know?). but this song got pulled of streaming for like a day or two, and then i listened to it, and bam. its so fun!!!! have yall seen the video of her in the desert for this one? it really sums up the energy. thx joanne

This article takes you on a journey through the illustrious career of Alka Yagnik, celebrating her contributions to Bollywood music, her milestones, and her indelible impact on listeners worldwide.
Early Life and Introduction to Music
Born on March 20, 1966, in Kolkata, Alka Yagnik was destined for a life of music. Coming from a musical family, her mother, Shubha Yagnik, was a trained classical singer and played a significant role in shaping her early love for music. Alka’s journey began at a tender age when she started singing bhajans on All India Radio at just six years old. Her powerful voice caught the attention of many, and her mother decided to nurture her talent further.
At the age of 10, Alka moved to Mumbai to pursue a career in playback singing. It was a leap of faith for her family, but it paid off when she got her big break in the movie Payal Ki Jhankaar (1980). This marked the beginning of an extraordinary career that would soon redefine Bollywood music.
The Breakthrough: Ek Do Teen and Instant Stardom
Alka Yagnik’s career catapulted to stardom with the chartbuster song Ek Do Teen from the film Tezaab (1988). Composed by the legendary duo Laxmikant-Pyarelal, this song not only established her as a playback singer but also became a cultural phenomenon. Featuring Madhuri Dixit’s electrifying dance moves, the song was a perfect blend of Alka’s energetic voice and the vibrant visuals.
The success of Ek Do Teen earned her a Filmfare Award for Best Female Playback Singer, and from that moment, there was no looking back. Her career soared, and she became the go-to voice for leading actresses like Madhuri Dixit, Juhi Chawla, and Kajol.
Defining Bollywood’s Golden Era
Throughout the 1990s, Alka Yagnik was the undisputed queen of playback singing. Her songs became synonymous with the emotions and stories portrayed on screen. Be it the romance of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai or the poignancy of Taal, Alka’s voice brought every character’s emotions to life.

Mere Khwabon Mein Jo Aaye (Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge)
Taal Se Taal Mila (Taal)
Pardesi Pardesi (Raja Hindustani)

Her versatility was unparalleled, effortlessly transitioning between soulful love songs and peppy dance numbers. Her collaborations with music directors like Nadeem-Shravan, Jatin-Lalit, and A.R. Rahman further cemented her status as a Bollywood legend.
Unforgettable Duets and Collaborations
Alka Yagnik’s duets with male playback singers like Kumar Sanu, Udit Narayan, and Sonu Nigam became evergreen hits. Together, they created some of the most memorable songs in Bollywood history. For instance:
Pehla Nasha with Udit Narayan (Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar)
Chura Ke Dil Mera with Kumar Sanu (Main Khiladi Tu Anari)

Her ability to adapt to different musical styles and voices made her collaborations truly magical.

Two National Film Awards for her songs Ghoonghat Ki Aad Se (Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke) and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai.
The honor of being one of the most frequently nominated female playback singers in Bollywood history.
These awards are a testament to her unmatched talent and enduring legacy.

With his mellifluous tone, impeccable control, and emotional depth, Sanu became the voice of romance for an entire generation. His songs from the 1990s, especially, defined Bollywood’s golden era of music, earning him legions of fans and a lasting legacy. Born Kedarnath Bhattacharya, Kumar Sanu rise from a musically inclined family in Kolkata to becoming the reigning playback king of Bollywood is a story of immense talent, relentless hard work, and impeccable timing. Even decades later, his songs continue to evoke nostalgia and remain beloved by audiences of all ages.
The Early Years and Musical Foundations
Kumar Sanu’s musical journey began under the tutelage of his father, Pashupati Bhattacharya, a noted vocalist and composer of classical Indian music. Sanu was exposed to music at an early age, learning classical music and mastering the tabla. Despite his strong classical roots, Sanu’s heart gravitated toward contemporary film music, a decision that would eventually set him on the path to stardom.
After completing his studies at Calcutta University, where he earned a degree in commerce, Sanu began to perform in local concerts and small shows. He was deeply influenced by legendary playback singers like Kishore Kumar, whose singing style inspired Sanu to develop his own distinct voice and technique. His early career was marked by struggles as he sought opportunities in an industry dominated by established icons.
Breakthrough with Aashiqui
The turning point in Kumar Sanu’s career came in 1990 with the release of Aashiqui, a musical blockbuster directed by Mahesh Bhatt and featuring music by Nadeem-Shravan. The album’s success was unprecedented, and it became a cultural phenomenon. Aashiqui not only solidified Sanu’s position as a playback superstar but also set a new benchmark for romantic music in Bollywood.
The success of Aashiqui was followed by a string of hits across multiple films, including Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin (1991), Deewana (1992), and Baazigar (1993). Sanu’s ability to convey nuanced emotions through his singing made him the go-to singer for romantic tracks, especially during the 1990s.

Whether it was a heart-wrenching ballad or a high-energy dance number, his voice brought a unique texture that enhanced the cinematic experience.
Accolades and Achievements
Kumar Sanu’s illustrious career has been adorned with numerous accolades. Between 1991 and 1995, he won the Filmfare Award for Best Male Playback Singer for five consecutive years — an unparalleled achievement in Bollywood history. Some of the award-winning songs include “Ab Tere Bin” (Aashiqui), “Mera Dil Bhi Kitna Pagal Hai” (Saajan), and “Ek Ladki Ko Dekha” (1942: A Love Story).
In 2009, Sanu was honored with the Padma Shri, one of India’s highest civilian awards, in recognition of his contributions to the arts. Beyond the awards, the sheer volume of his work — over 25,000 recorded songs in multiple languages — is a testament to his dedication and talent.
Sanu’s Influence on Modern Music
Even as new singers and musical styles emerged, Kumar Sanu’s influence remained undeniable. His songs are often reimagined in contemporary films, ensuring that his legacy endures with younger audiences. Tracks like “Dheere Dheere Se” have been remixed and reintroduced in Bollywood, with Sanu’s voice serving as the gold standard for romantic playback singing.

Timeless Nadeem-Shravan Hits That Defined Bollywood Romance
The 1990s were a golden era for Bollywood music, and much of that glory can be attributed to the genius of Nadeem-Shravan. The legendary duo, comprising Nadeem Akhtar Saifi and Shravan Kumar Rathod, revolutionized Bollywood’s musical landscape with their soulful melodies, romantic ballads, and a unique ability to evoke deep emotions through their compositions. Their music not only dominated charts but also became the soundtrack of life for millions of fans during that decade.
This article delves into how Nadeem-Shravan redefined Bollywood music in the 1990s, exploring their innovative approach, chart-topping successes, and lasting legacy.
The Birth of a Phenomenon
Nadeem-Shravan first rose to prominence with the blockbuster soundtrack of Aashiqui in 1990. This album, a romantic masterpiece, marked a turning point for Bollywood music. At a time when Bollywood was experimenting with various musical styles, Nadeem-Shravan brought back the charm of melody. Their compositions in Aashiqui were simple yet profound, with tracks like “Dheere Dheere Se” and “Nazar Ke Saamne” striking an emotional chord with audiences.
This success was no accident. The duo’s roots in Indian classical music combined with their understanding of contemporary trends made them stand out. They carefully crafted each tune, ensuring it appealed to both traditional and modern sensibilities. Aashiqui not only cemented their place in Bollywood but also became a cultural phenomenon, influencing a generation of music lovers.
Signature Style: A Blend of Tradition and Modernity
One of the defining features of Nadeem-Shravan’s music was their seamless blending of traditional Indian melodies with modern instrumentation. Their songs often featured lush orchestration, with violins, sitars, and flutes complementing contemporary beats. This fusion created a sound that was both nostalgic and fresh.
Another hallmark of their style was the emotional depth in their compositions. Whether it was a song of heartbreak like “Jab Koi Baat Bigad Jaye” (Jurm) or a celebration of love like “Pehla Pehla Pyar Hai” (Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke), their music spoke directly to the heart. This emotional resonance became a trademark of their work and contributed to their immense popularity.
Chart-Topping Successes
The 1990s were dominated by Nadeem-Shravan’s chart-topping soundtracks. After the success of Aashiqui, they followed up with a string of hits that solidified their reputation as Bollywood’s go-to music directors. Some of their most memorable works include:
Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin (1991): Tracks like “Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin” and “O Mere Sapno Ke Saudagar” became instant classics.
Saajan (1991): Featuring iconic songs like “Bahut Pyar Karte Hain” and “Dekha Hai Pehli Baar,” this album was a runaway success.
Deewana (1992): This soundtrack introduced a young Shah Rukh Khan to the industry, with songs like “Teri Umeed Tera Intezaar” becoming evergreen hits.
Raja Hindustani (1996): Songs such as “Pardesi Pardesi” and “Aaye Ho Meri Zindagi Mein” showcased their versatility and knack for storytelling through music.
Each album had its distinct flavor, yet all bore the unmistakable stamp of Nadeem-Shravan’s melodic genius.
Collaborations That Defined an Era
Nadeem-Shravan’s success was bolstered by their collaborations with some of Bollywood’s finest lyricists and playback singers. Working with lyricists like Sameer and Anand Bakshi, they created songs that were as impactful in words as they were in melody. Their partnership with singers such as Kumar Sanu, Alka Yagnik, Udit Narayan, and Kavita Krishnamurthy led to the creation of iconic duets that became the soundtrack of Bollywood romance.
Kumar Sanu, in particular, became synonymous with the Nadeem-Shravan sound. Tracks like “Mera Dil Bhi Kitna Pagal Hai” (Saajan) and Tum Dil Ki Dhadkan Mein” (Dhadkan) were brought to life by Sanu’s emotive singing. These collaborations not only produced memorable music but also elevated the careers of everyone involved.
A Legacy of Timeless Romance
The music of Nadeem-Shravan continues to resonate with audiences even decades after their peak. Their soundtracks were not just collections of songs but cohesive albums that complemented the narratives of the films they were part of. They understood the emotional core of the stories they worked on and used their music to amplify it.
The romantic melodies of Nadeem-Shravan became synonymous with Bollywood’s portrayal of love. Their songs were often the defining moments of the films they featured in, encapsulating the joy, pain, and passion of romance in ways that words alone could not.
Impact on the Bollywood Music Industry
Nadeem-Shravan’s influence on Bollywood music cannot be overstated. At a time when the industry was moving towards Western-inspired beats and disco music, they brought back the focus on melody and storytelling. Their success paved the way for other composers to experiment with romantic and emotional themes, leading to a renaissance of melody-driven music in Bollywood.
Furthermore, their popularity helped establish T-Series as a dominant force in the music industry. The collaboration between Nadeem-Shravan and T-Series set a benchmark for the production and marketing of Bollywood soundtracks.
Challenges and Triumphs
While their career was marked by immense success, it was not without its challenges. The duo faced controversies and setbacks, including legal troubles and personal disputes. Despite these obstacles, their music remained a constant source of inspiration for fans. Their ability to adapt and evolve ensured their place in Bollywood history.
Conclusion: A Lasting Legacy
Nadeem-Shravan contribution to Bollywood music goes beyond their hit songs and chart-topping albums. They redefined the sound of an era, creating music that transcended time and trends. Their work continues to inspire new generations of music lovers and composers, proving that true artistry is timeless.
As we reflect on the duo’s incredible journey, it becomes evident that their music was more than just entertainment — it was an expression of love, emotion, and the human experience. Nadeem-Shravan will always be remembered as the pioneers who brought melody back to Bollywood, leaving an indelible mark on the industry and in the hearts of their fans.
