Kali Puja
For most of the Bangali folk, Durga Puja is their favourite festival. I guess, everyone likes the ambience and grandeur of the festival. But, a small fraction of the people(consisting of me and my friend) adore Kali puja. I love Kali Puja more than I love Durga Puja.
During Durga Puja, only the pandals are decorated, but during Kali Puja, each and every house is decorated with various types of lighting(the tuni lights being the most common). The Samshan Ghat, which is usually a place of death and mourning, is decorated with all kinds of articles. A place of death and mourning transforms into a place of happiness and life.
Tumblr media
Kali Maa is also a form of the goddess Durga, albeit a more a fierce and violent form of the mother goddess, nonetheless equally motherly and nurturing. Maa Kali, or Shayma, adorns a garland of skulls on her neck, holds the severed head of Raktabija(the demon she slayed) in her hand. She stands over Lord Shiva, her lord. Even her eyes are filled with rage. Most people would find that scary, but to the bhakts, she is their compassionate mother, the one who takes away all their sorrows, their eternal protector. To her children, she is not the destroyer of the universe, she is the destroyer of their sorrows. She is their eternal mother.
The best part about Kali Puja is probably the songs. Be it the age-old tunes of Kumar Sanu, or the modern day renditions, Shayama Sangeet hits in a different way. Unlike the Durga Puja songs, where they usually describe the puja itself, Shayma Sangeet only worships Shayama, the divine mother. Whether it is Sadananda moyee kali or Mon re krishikaj jano na or Amar shadh na mitilo, it almost feels as if a child, who has been burdened by the clutches of maya has come to his mother for solace. These songs resonate all throughout the place, bringing immense comfort to our souls.
During Kali Puja, Kali maa is not worshipped as the destroyer of time, instead she is worshipped as the destroyer of sorrows, she is worshipped as the divine mother, the eternal protector.

✨9 Ship Songs✨
Rules: List nine songs for one of your ships (or some permutation of ships that equates to nine songs in the end)
I got tagged by both @shivunin and @brother-genitivi so it is time! I, also, didn't want to pick just one ship, so have an assortment of my DA ships below. If there aren't nine songs, keep the wizardry of your numbers to yourself. I don't want to know how to count. I thought about explaining how each song relates to each couple but then this post would be twice as long, so you will have to guess.
Talvinder 💙 Alistair
Aankhon ki Gustakhiyan - Kumar Sanu and Kavita Krishnamurthy May the impertinence of my eyes be forgiven... They look at you just a little; and what my tongue longs to speak, that is what they tell you.
Wide Eyed - Cold Weather Company What if I lose all sight and ambition? What if my heart weakens my vision? What if all I need Is right in front of me? I could die in your arms, I could die.
Aislin 💔 Isabela
Shrike - Hozier The words hung above but never would form- like a cry at the final Breath that is drawn. Remember me, love, When I'm reborn: As the shrike to your sharp and glorious thorn.
The Blackbird - Silly Wizard Oh if I was a blackbird, could whistle and sing I'd follow the vessel my true love sails in. And in the top rigging I would there build my nest And I'd flutter my wings o'er her lily-white breast.
Aislin ❤️‍🩹 Sebastian
Archers - Ballroom Thieves Well, you can let your arrows sing. I've never met a man of iron skin But you know, archers never made good kings: Fly headfirst into everything.
King of All Birds - Aoife O'Donovan Get up, get up Get it together and climb on up To the top of the tree. I'm an owl now, a lonely owl: Who, who, where, what, why, when? How the hell did I get this far without you? Pull my feathers one by one, Put 'em in your pocket when I'm gone.
Elodie 💛 Varric
Love Me Tender - Elvis Presley Love me tender, love me true All my dreams fulfill. For, my darling, I love you And I always will.
Amen - Amber Run 'Cause I see You in the daytime, and I hear You at night There's a pale imitation burnt in my eyes. I don't wanna be here, I don't know what to do. Sometimes I'd rather be dead, at least then I'm with You.
La'ara 💚 Cullen
I'd Pluck a Fair Rose - Anne Dudley, Eleanor Tomlinson I'd a-pluck a fair rose for my love, I'd a-pluck a red rose blowin'. Love's in my heart, I'm tryin' so to prove What you heart's knowin'.
The Rockrose and the Thistle - The Amazing Devil 'Cause I'll darn you back together When you think that you're bereft And you'll wail, you'll scream, but I'll never stop 'Cause it's all that I have left

"Bade bade deshon mein aisi choti choti baatein hoti rehti hain, senorita!"
Song : Tujhe dekha toh
Movie: Dilwale Dulhania le jayenge
Singers : Kumar Sanu, Lata Mangeshkar
Lyrics: Anand Bakshi
Thank you @bhadkilibiryani for suggesting this song ❤️ This is one of my favourite movies with Kajol and SRK. What I love in this movie is the journey of falling in love. Finding the right one for you, that someone could be anywhere and you'll never know until you see them and feel that this is the one. It reminds me of Brida by Coelho and the soulmate theory presented in it.
I love all the songs in Dilwale Dulhania le jayenge including "Zara sa jhoom loon mein" and "mere khwabon mein jo aaye".

01.02.24 im making my peace with knowing my favorite musical genre are fucking soundtracks
cabaret / liza minelli: this is the definition of fantastic. wow. almost desperately lively. which i guess fits the scene, but i havent watched the movie:( also, that ‘tomorrow belongs to me’? that was fucking scary. made me feel surrounded…..
let me drown / orville peck: what a voice, man. i need to listen to him live eventually. feels like he’s so lost…. what vulnerability!
pimp / bacao rhythm & steel band: have yall seen ‘anatomy of a fall’? it’s so immersive, it had me transfixed. and well. this 50 cent cover is really catchy, what can i say
yunhi kat jaayega / kumar sanu & alka yagnik: one day i felt like listening to something bollywood because i like the grand scale of some of their musicals. stumbled upon this song from ‘hum hain rahi pyar ke’ and loved it. i didnt even know what the movie was about until a couple of seconds ago
portuguese dance ii / jerskin fendrix: this one is from ‘poor things’. witnessing a person grow and develop into themselves in 2 hours was fascinating, and so was the soundtrack. i really liked some of the design choices for the spaces, but i grew tired of the oversaturated skies and how clear it was that all exterior scenes were sets. i dont like when you can feel the real scale in how the fictional scale is presented
perfect illusion / lady gaga: i was never really a stan, but i did make my twitter account just so i could vote for gaga in whatever awards. and saying she’s my favorite artist is also my Official Stance, but i dont listen much to her (old policy of mine so i dont get tired of the songs i really really like, u know?). but this song got pulled of streaming for like a day or two, and then i listened to it, and bam. its so fun!!!! have yall seen the video of her in the desert for this one? it really sums up the energy. thx joanne

If you’ve recently experienced heartbreak, your prescription is thus: take once a week with plenty of water do not exceed the stated dose. There isn’t a single shock over these 12 tracks, all of which sound, essentially, like Adele songs, but the nods to Hollywood scores, 1960s soul and even her own back catalogue inject the melodrama needed to pull off the more languished ballads. Nonetheless, you’d listen to Adele sing the phone book, even at this funereal pace. The almost seven-minute To Be Loved is as drawn out as a Taylor Swift short film, which will nourish the grief tourists and annoy the daylights out of anyone who wants to get on with it. Can I Get It swaps piano balladry for steely acoustic guitars and whistles, but while the background whoops in the verses might be a homage to Serge Gainsbourg, the chorus is more like Ed Sheeran at his most chart-focused.

The thumping bass drum and handclaps of Oh My God hark back to the era of Rolling in the Deep, when she was caught up in the post-Amy Winehouse frenzy of jazz-inspired chart singers. Sonically, at least, it’s not all doom and gloom. It’s a welcome injection of Adele the likable celebrity-who’s-just-like-us, before she batters us with woe again. “All right, then, I’m ready,” she says at the close of the song. Sweeping strings, mournful organ and Adele’s signature vocal range comfortably move through the paces. “I’ll be taking flowers to the cemetery of my heart,” she begins on Strangers by Nature, played with all the warm timbre of an old gramophone. What is on Adele Adkins’s mind at 33? The same heartbreak that fuelled her breakthrough, with 21, and shot her to global stardom, with 25, persists on 30, a record of melodrama, ballads and a hint of 1960s soul.

Or you might be waiting for the delivery of some other artist’s LP, cursing pop music and everything it stands for because Adele decided to press 500,000 copies of her latest album during a vinyl shortage. What is your relationship with Adele? Maybe you’re one of the 277-odd million people who have streamed Easy on Me on Spotify, awaiting a return to permissible (even encouraged) long-form heartbreak.
