Baltic Tribes (2018)
My rating: 5/10
Has anybody checked on the narrator recently? She sounds like she's in some sort of trance. Or possibly just bored, which, who could blame her?

Positivus Festival 2016 artists: Kristaps Bedritis (LV)
Next up in our Positivus festival-themed entries is Kristaps Bedritis. A singer-songwriter from Latvia, who is going to open this year’s festival with his band. Recently they released a new song called “Restless”. The song is beautiful and thoughtful. It goes from calmness to a stormier mood, while not losing the details and completeness. Keep reading and you’ll find Kristaps’ answers to our festival questions and the video for the new song.

1. What do you expect from this year’s Positivus Festival? I expect that people will take Friday off from work and come to the festival early to see us play. :)
2. Which bands or artists would you like to see at Positivus? Who would you recommend to others? I'm looking forward to seeing AIR, Liima, Charles Bradley and, of course, Iggy Pop. These are just some of the names and I haven't explored the program entirely, because it's always nice to discover new music. I've seen Liima (with former members of Efterklang) before and would definitely recommend them to others. As for the local acts, I would really recommend seeing the new Latvian project Ezeri.
3. What album or band/artist are you planning to listen to on the way to Salacgrīva? I don't really plan these kind of things ahead. I'll just see how I feel that day. Since me and the band will be opening the festival, I'll probably listen to something that helps me get in the mood of my own performance, such as Fink or Matt Corby, for example.
4. What are three essential things you're packing to the festival? My guitar, my toothbrush, my best friend.
5. Dream festival to perform at? Why? I haven't really thought about a dream festival, but if I had one, it would probably be somewhere in a beautiful location rather than a festival with a big name. I do have a couple of dream venues, though. One of them would be Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Colorado, USA. Just google the images and you'll see why.

1) Last song that was stuck in your head?
I just started writing a new song myself, so that's stuck in my head. But other than that, I just listened to Matt Corby's new single “Monday”, which is great and has been playing on repeat for a few times now. Can't wait to hear his new album.
2) What are you listening to at the moment?
Matt Corby. (: He's one of my favourite musicians and that new single brought me back to his older tunes.
3) Last album/song you bought?
I guess it's been a while. I think the last one was Fink's Hard Believer that I bought about a year ago when I went to see them live in Warsaw. The album is great and the show was amazing. He's been one of my inspirations and influences for many years.
4) Next concert you’re going to attend?
Zemlika Festival. It's a small 2-day music and art festival in the smallest town in Latvia - Durbe. Been going there for the last couple of years and it's become almost like an autumn tradition and a retreat from everything.
5) Most interesting band/artist in Latvia at the moment? Why?
Well, I was just on a tour with Rihards Lībietis for over two weeks and can surely say that he's making some great music and I really enjoyed the programme he put together with another guitarist Gints Smukais. There's another great guitarist, Matīss Čudars, who is a part of various bands and projects, including his own contemporary jazz band. Another one of his bands, that I'm a fan of, is blondblackblonde, which actually is 1/4 Latvian, because out of the four band members, he's the only Latvian. But still, no matter the band he's in at a given time and place, there will always be great energy and musical surprises. Also, definitely waiting for the sounds of Alise Joste's new album.
6) Music that always calms you down?
The best way to calm myself and relax is to go out in the nature. Sounds of the forest, sea and meadows make the ideal soundtrack to help ease my mind and refocus. But as to actual music, probably something instrumental, like Andy McKee or Nils Frahm. Also, you can never go wrong with Bon Iver.
7) A song that makes you want to dance?
John Butler Trio - “Funky Tonight”. Such an awesome tune, especially the live video from Fuji Rock.
