there are enormous differences between block american cheese and pre-sliced american cheese. the naming is so similar, they're visually similar, and some stores just do not carry the block cheese

lets use land-o-lakes.

the pre-sliced is quality-wise, a step above kraft singles. it has that plastic sheen and it doesn't matter if the store puts it in a deli bag with wax paper, it's still trash.

the block cheese is the same concept, but they perfected the unholy process to turn excess cheddar, colby jack, etc into something incredibly pleasant.

the ingredients are different. the prices are different

whatever that final layer of soy process does for packaging and cost, it also ruins it. im tired of stores putting "land-o-lakes american" out on shelves as if these two are the same.
