Peter slumps onto his bed, hardly noticing the two kernels of popcorn that tumble out of his bowl. He cozies right up to your side. 

“Let me in there.” 

You lift the blanket around your shoulders, allowing him to slip underneath and situate the popcorn between you. Peter’s room is slowly becoming your favorite haunt in the city. He’s got a great view, with a window that looks out at the skyline but is too far up to get much street noise. His bed has been worn down to peak comfort, with a springy mattress and sheets washed to soft perfection. And when he lays against you like this, the light of a movie’s opening credits coming from his laptop to wash his face in an ever-morphing gradient of colors, you really just cannot think of any place you’d rather be. 

Peter kisses your head like he knows what you’re thinking, grabbing a handful of popcorn before gathering you close to his chest. His arm comes around your shoulders. When his fingertips brush over bumpy skin, you shift sideways, drawing in a breath. It’s not terribly dramatic, but it’s enough to cause concern. 

Peter looks down at you, colors morphing from green to blue on one side of his face. “What’s up?” 

“Nothing, sorry—just, I have some acne there.” 

“Oh, shit, sorry.” Peter’s hand falls away. He presses pause on his laptop, and you feel awash with embarrassment. “It hurts? Want me to have a look?” 

“No, it doesn’t really hurt.” The movie has stopped on a dark orange color, likely adding a warm hue to your now warming face. 

“Okay.” Your boyfriend looks confused. “Are you sure?” 

“I’m sure,” you say to reassure him. “It doesn’t hurt, it’s just that it’s…bumpy.” 

He nods for a moment. “Right,” he says slowly. “So it bothers you when I touch it?” 

“I…no.” Suddenly, you realize that you have no idea where you were going with this. You feel stupid for bringing it up at all. “It doesn’t bother me, necessarily.” 

“Okay.” Peter relaxes back into his previous position, his arm around your shoulders. But he doesn’t touch your bumpy skin, as though still exercising caution. “Then what’s wrong?” 

“Nothing’s wrong.” 

“You jumped like I’d electrocuted you when I put my hand on your shoulder.” 

“Well, I didn’t think you’d want to touch it.” 

His head cocks to the side. “Why not?” 

“Because…it’s…” It feels weird to say out loud. There’s something about voicing insecurities that makes them worse than they are in your head. “Peter,” you say in a soft voice. Pleading a little, because your boyfriend is smart. Surely he can put it together without your help. 

The sympathetic line of his mouth reveals that Peter has, in fact, put it together. “I promise you,” he says, “I don’t give one single shit what your skin feels like. Or what it looks like.” 

“It’s okay if you do.” 

“I don’t. Seriously. I just want to hold you, is that okay?” 

“Of course it’s okay.” Your voice has turned quiet, caught between shame and fondness. “I just didn’t want you to be surprised, or to…for you to think you had to put up with it if it grossed you out.” 

“Oh, my god,” Peter groans theatrically. “Shut up.” He kisses your head, then your cheek, then slouches to hit your shoulder. “I love you, but shut up. I never want to hear you say ‘gross’ in relation to yourself ever again, do you get that?” 

“Okay,” you murmur sheepishly. 

“Good.” He drops another kiss on your shoulder for good measure. “Even if it had surprised me, sweetheart, it’s not like it would have been so jarring. It happens, it’s normal. I don’t care.” 

“Okay.” 

“Are you hearing me? You’re perfect. Exquisite. There is no part of you I don’t want to touch. Not that I’m, erm, suggesting anything other than movie-watching tonight, but. You know.” 

Your lips tug. By the way Peter smiles back, with relief, you wonder if that was half the plan. 

“The only thing I care about,” he goes on, voice dropping into a more sincere register, “is that I’m not touching you anywhere you don’t want me to. So, are you sure you don’t mind?” 

“I’m sure,” you say. “Sorry, I shouldn’t have brought it up.” 

“Are you kidding me?” Peter gives you a good squeeze, hand settling comfortably over your shoulder again. “Don’t be sorry. The only thing I love more than feeling you up is listening to you talk. Actually, maybe we should scrap this whole movie and you can just monologue to me.” 

“I’m good.”

"in her first year as a royal bride, Kate was behind a charity being kicked out of apartment 1A so she could take it over. Charles originally was turned down by the charity, and then the queen had to intervene to make them leave. The charity had just remodeled Princess Margaret's apartment and Kate toured the rooms on the pretense of just wanting to see what work they had done."

So there's some truth, some overdramatising, and some lies (buckle up, it's long).

Apartment 1a was lived in by Princess Margaret. After her death in 2002 it lay vacant until 2004 when the management was taken over by Historic Royal Palaces. Historic Royal Palaces is a charity and royal charter body which exists to maintain and run the unoccupied royal palaces (so occupied parts of KP sit outside their control). They used the space for a few things: offices, storage, event space, classrooms. HRP runs the palaces through a contracted arrangement with the government. We don't know the terms of that contract, or the terms of any agreement regulating HRP's use of Apartment 1a, so we have no idea what legal rights different groups had which is a massive piece of the puzzle which is unfortunately missing but we'll try our best with what we have.

In 2007 Charles took over Apartment 8 for office space. I can't find any reference to him asking HRP for Apartment 1a. He might have but there's no evidence and without any details about when he asked and why I don't see why it's relevant.

In 2010, HRP announced a renovation for KP. This was a large scale plan costing about £12 million and was predominantly focused on the public spaces (the State Apartments etc). This wasn't a specific renovation of Apartment 1a. They did do work to make it suitable for offices but I can't find any evidence it was in 2010/11 (and if it was it doesn't matter as you'll see later).

In 2011, William and Kate were preparing to marry. They shared a residence with Harry at Clarence House and it was recognised that a new London base would be needed for them as they would be growing their family and would also be likely to receive heads of state and diplomats in their home. According to the press they visited St James's - an occupied royal palace not under the control of HRP - and Apartment 8 in KP (which would have also required charities to move their offices). HRP confirmed Kate had visited KP before the wedding but didn't confirm what part, why, or what she said her reason was so that claim is unsubstantiated. In July 2011 they moved into Nottingham Cottage but it was made clear this was a temporary move until they found something more appropriate.

In November 2011 it was confirmed that William and Kate would move into 1a. There would be a renovation which would start in late 2012. Now, again, we don't know for definite what happened but the press reported that the Queen had asked HRP to move. The reports state that she and Charles agreed to reimburse HRP for any work they'd carried out on 1a over the years and they agreed to delay the move so that HRP could carry out the final exhibition they had planned, so they wouldn't have any loss of income or be out of pocket. They then relocated to a different space at KP. After the announcement HRP said they were "delighted that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have chosen Kensington Palace as their permanent home. There is no doubt that their presence will put the Palace more in the public eye and, we hope, encourage more people to come and explore its history." According to their accounts their income increased year on year and there is nothing to suggest there was any negative consequence of the handover, or any significant shift in their operations.

So on the surface the story has some truth. HRP had the place. They had to move out for William and Kate. But several claims are unsubstantiated like the idea Kate lied about why she was there. I also think the fact they refuse to name the charity and leave out what happened to HRP as a result of the move is also deliberate, in my view. Because of the common perception of the term "charity" it makes you believe it was either some orphanage and all these starving children were cast onto the street or that it was a vital community space offering life saving services that had to be stopped. It was a building where they had some offices and kept some of their stuff. And the move was negotiated and fair on HRP. They essentially just had to move some boxes from one room to another room in the same place so at most it was mildly irritating for a couple of weeks but that's it. And I don't know about you but if I was the head of HRP and someone said things could stay exactly as they are because William and Kate are moving into St James's which is nothing to do with us or we can move to a different building on the same complex with no financial loss involved and in exchange get the Cambridge factor to attract visitors, I'd pick the latter. So from my perspective they've massively overdramatised the story and if HRP ended up being ok with the final agreement, why shouldn't I?

However, I know my view is subjective and I can understand opposing views so let's just say it was a terrible thing to do. The first thing I'd say in response is William exists. You wouldn't know it from this quote. Every time there has ever been a drama about their family's homes it has been blamed 100% on Kate because she's a woman so domestic spaces have to be solely on her. It's wildly misogynistic to say Kate was behind it and ignore William's existence. Furthermore, Kate has no power to kick anyone out of a home she doesn't own. So unless she strapped the Queen and Charles to chairs and said she'd kill one corgi every hour until she got her way, they made the choice to ask HRP to move out. They could have said no. And this quote states they believe Charles asked and HRP said no so by their logic HRP could have also said no here. So even if people want to believe this account that Kate wanted a poor little charity to be thrown out for her own amusement, it was still the Queen and to a lesser extent Charles who threw them out so the blame is on them.

I have some thoughts on the whole “Why is William not travelling more” thing. Mind you, I do sometimes feels it is very tinhatty, but it is what I think.

See, I believe the root of all our issues is Charles. Now, don’t get me wrong, I am neither here nor there with him. Meaning I have no issue with him to the point of blaming him for everything under the sun or defending him even when he is in the wrong. Charles has spent so much time, like a looooot of time, being the PoW, living under his mother’s shadow, his mother The Queen, one of the most recognizable and relevant figures in the political and social world of the last 50 years (giving myself some creative liberties here). Charles was still a Prince when all the other heirs his age were becoming Kings and Queens. Then, the children of those peers of him were taking over, and he was now bowing to people he never had to bow to. Charles is a man of arrogance, and anyone can tell that. Probably a unique combination of aristocratic and Royal arrogance, could be that. He had his place on the spotlight for a very long time… until Diana. Then, everything was about her. His achievements were put second to her just showing up. He was just PoW, Elizabeth’s son, Diana’s husband. And then, William’s father. William the loved and adored one. Sure, C has his fans and follower and what not, but he isn´t William, just as he isn’t Elizabeth II.

Now, he is King. The King. He is the most important one everywhere. Unless William or Catherine are there. Because he goes to Commonwealth day, and Catherine gets the covers. Because he gets a royal wedding for his wife, and everyone is looking at the now Wales. He gets cancer, and people are worried about Catherine.

All the things he wanted to do, the tours, the state visits, being received as The King by those he had to bow to before, are on pause. Because his time is even shorter than he thought, because he is mortal and old and still living under someone else’s shadow: the new Prince and Princess of wales (another Princess of Wales stealing his spotlight).

Williams does and the press covers it. The same with Catherine. The kids show up and people go feral. His Queen does not get the same recognition as Catherine, not even close.

Do I believe W&C put the kids first and that is why we don’t see them as often? Sure. Do I think KP says something and BP/CH twist it and make it not happen/wrong/you chose? Yes. Williamscould do better? Yes. Will he? Sure, when he is King. Not now, not when Charles’ ego is hanging by a thread, his place in history being a fickle of what he wanted. He was a great PoW, hardworking, trendsetter, people oriented. That is his legacy, one his son is respecting but will never do just like C did, because W is not C. Charles the King? Charles III is temporary, short term. Elizabeth was diamond. William will be gold, maybe. George is a whole new future we can’t even begin to imagine. Charles is a passing monarch, warming up the seat for the next one. It took too long for him to get his crown, and he will not enjoy it too long.

He knows this, so he will act accordingly. King Charles III comes first no matter what.

This does not mean William is off the hook: he needs to sit down, strategize a lot more and do even more than what he does now. Talk less, do more.

You may be on to something. At the end of the day, everything must go through BP so if BP doesn't want KP to do something, well, then KP's hands are often tied. I do think the way William...not retaliates but maybe...defends himself? (I'm really at a loss for words here) is by refusing to do certain things that BP wants.

Like we know the Foreign Office wants William and Kate to travel more because they're the ones who bring the most favorable press coverage and they do their jobs uncontroversially, but William and Kate don't travel (or they aren't traveling), and I don't think it's because BP is blocking all the shots. I think it's because BP is blocking enough shots that when the opportunity does arise, KP isn't interested; too little too late.

But you are right, William (and Kate) do need to be thinking about strategy, if they aren't already, for the monarchy's future. They, more than Charles, are in a position where they'll be able to set the terms for what a 21st century monarchy looks like, very much the same way that George V and Queen Mary set the standard for a 20th century monarchy. (Right? They were the ones who turned the BRF to philanthropy and charity work?)

Henry can’t bring himself to feel shameful about staring when Alex heaves himself up off of the ground, muscles taut and chest heaving as the crowd goes wild around him, chanting Alex’s name and cheering. He shrinks against the noise and the movement but it does him no use to try to hide, every inch of his body prickling with anticipation.

And Alex looks obscene, a filthy grin stretching his lips with his chin jutted into the air and his fist held high in the middle of the ring above his motionless opponent, the blood from his nose staining his flushed skin and a bit of his teeth, his half-lidded eyes locked in on Henry like a fixation: the predator and his prey.

Harry's reasons for falling out with his family change every few days, like flavour of the month. Depending on what he fancies (and maybe what brand of weed he is smoking up).

So far, the reasons Harry has given for the rift with his brother and father are :

I just love it when the so called royal fandom of the Wales are proven wrong. They were all aglee when Buckingham palace revealed the 2025 itinerary for Charles and Camilla, and the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh. They were all like, Willie and Cathy are on vacation!!! They fail to grasp that KP sets their own agenda independently of BP. That’s the precedent that Charles set when he was POW, and now they’re pressed because William has the same prerogative??

But it was nice to see William and Catherine out and about doing their thing all last week and this week. I think a lot of it is do with security and not giving advance notification to others with nefarious intent. Together with KP reiterating that they won’t be focused on what Catherine wears on her outings, it’s a pretty positive message of taking back control and doing things on their own terms going forward.

It was lovely to see both The Prince and The Princess of Wales out and about this week. I also think that not mentioning the engagements in advance is for security reasons. Not focusing on the clothes is, to me, a gentle reminder that it is the organisation being visited that is important, not what anyone wears.

I think that quite a few people, both in and out of the royal fandom, expected The Prince and Princess of Wales to continue as they did when they were The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, and they don't realise that things have changed now - KP is now in the position that Clarence House was under Queen Elizabeth, and that is what we should look to for announcements etc.

You sit besides her and open your arms for her. Without hesitation, she crashes into them, her once stiff body relaxing under your touch. She presses her face into your chest and lets the day melt off her frame, fully allowing herself to be eneveloped by your embrace.

You nuzzle the top of her head before kissing it, arms secured around her, a silent promise to keep her safe. To make yourself her personal sanctuary.

You only have to look back at documentaries and articles from the moment her relationship with Harry was revealed to the press to the first 6 months into their marriage, the press was overwhelmingly positive. I've never seen a royal bride be so well received by the media, never. The media really praised her as a royal moderniser who would change the monarchy for the better. The Royal Family broke several traditions to make her feel welcome. In their own words, the family was extremely accepting.

Of course, Meghan had some negative press. Everyone in the family did. There was also three very clear instances that were clearly racist though: "the straight out of Compton article" which was written for the Daily Mail L.A, which makes sense because I'm pretty sure most people in the UK don't know what or where Compton is.

That article was immediately condemned by Harry and the media.

The second instance was when someone involved in politics said something about pure blood. She was condemned.

Then, the journalist that posted the photo of a monkey saying that it was H&M's baby was immediately fired.

As we saw with KateGate, the RF do not and cannot control social media, where most of the hate comes from. Social media companies definitely have to do better but how is that the RF's fault?

People claim that the palace never defended Meghan and always defend Kate. She was a working royal for 17 months. During that time, KP released 17 statements defending her. Here are a few:

In the first 2 years of her marriage to William, the palace only released 1 statement defending Kate. ONE, about the topless photos.

That bring us to KateGate. Even before the cancer announcement, the public knew she had surgery and still refused to leave her alone. Months of harassment, speculation, the craziest conspiracy theories: divorce, murder, infidelity, mental health crisis, domestic violence, even murder.

You have people like Christopher Bouzy, who appeared in H&M's Netflix show, having open discussions with the Sussex squad and making public accusations of domestic abuse and divorce. Here is the video:

Still today, you still have a lot of these crazy haters mad because Kate still has hair after treatment, that she doesn't look like she's dying so she must be faking it 🙄

Haters won't be satisfied until Kate is either dead or divorced in a completely humiliating way. Or they wanted that Kate photo with no hair to mock and humiliate her

The difference is that unlike Meghan, Kate never complained (she easily could have and would've been completely justified)

Just because Kate had a few good years in the press, that doesn't erase all the harassment she went through for TWENTY YEARS now

But the KP in-house media team was able to put out these youtube shorts in less than a day with the footage that KP owns.

Interesting how the UK media was NOT allowed any kind of presence and was not notified until Kate was leaving The Royal Marsden.

But yet KP was able to publish this youtube short with this interview clip the very next day.

Also I think the KP love shield has been taken down? It's not pulling up on the BRF website. If it has been taken down...that's suspicious.

Why suspicious?

Well, the short answer is: of all the issues with the royal websites that need fixing and updating, the KP love shield existing was the most important?

The long answer is the tinhatty answer: the Sussexes' security argument and paparazzi harassment claims originate with the love shield. In fact, the love shield legitimizes Meghan's claims of paparazzi harassment because there's never been any physical evidence of it. Harry and Meghan have only told us she's harassed by the press, but there are no photographs, no videos. I mean, she didn't even post any of her own footage on social media about being followed by paparazzi and Meghan was someone who lived her whole dang life on Instagram. So if the love shield has been taken down, then does that mean the harassment claims were untrue and falsified?

Because it's an official document issued by the palace on behalf of an official senior principal working royal. It's subject to records management requirements. Consequences like evidence in the RAVEC lawsuit confirming Harry falsified testimony about his security concerns or that he lied about Meghan's paparazzi harassment, which would totally torpedo the lawsuit and could lead to perjury.

Listen, I'm aware how tinhatty this sounds. Most likely, they took the statement down because Harry is no longer an official working royal or no longer represented by Kensington Palace (who issued the statement on Harry's behalf). But other statements / press releases, even ones older than this, are still available and the Harkles are still referenced on the website as members of the BRF. So why take it down?

I also know that if anything were to lead to penalties or consequences for Harry, he won't be held accountable so it doesn't really matter.
