▪︎Lost & Found (James Conrad x fem reader pt.1)
-Introduction/Commotion:
This fic is a silly idea I thought of just this afternoon- so don't take it too seriously lol. It's sort(?) of a combination between Kong Skull Island and King Kong 2005. Kong is much more silverback like and resembles his 2005 version, while most of the characters (obviously) stay the same as the ones we know and love from Skull Island. We'll see what else shifts but that's all I really have planned for now. I'm not sure how long this fic will be uh and that is because I'm just making it all up as I go along 💀 BUT! I hope this finds my niche audience and ya'll enjoy it. Thank you!

There I sat upon just one of the island's great mountain sides, taking a full breath of the crisp morning air into my lungs. The rock was cool and smooth beneath me, which contradicted the beams of the hot sun that had already set itself in the clear, blue sky for the day. A warm breeze blew through my hair and gently tossed its strands about until I straightened them out. Only to have them fall out of place again soon after. But I didn't mind.
My legs hung over the ledge and swung in contentment. My lips were curled up into a soft smile as I gazed out over the deadly tropical paradise. Calls from various creatures, big and small, dangerous and harmless, echoed throughout the valleys. Their cries reached my ears, and I was thankful to be safely atop the mount, where I could take cover in the cave if need be.
Yes, I had faced such creatures before, and I truly do believe that I would be long dead by now if it wasn't for Kong. One of the few of said creatures who had taken quite a liking to me, and I to him. Perhaps the gentlest of giants there ever were in this place. It was almost as though we had a strange understanding of one another.
Sounds like the ramblings of a woman who's lost it, huh? Well, I can't say that's entirely wrong either. This forest will do that to you. But I can guarantee you that this is no lie.
The enormous ape was off somewhere doing who knows what. Likely hunting or exploring or whatever. I wasn't really sure what it was that he did, but when he left to do it, he was still never fully out of reach. No matter how far away he traveled, he was constantly hyper aware of my presence on the island. Always listening, watching, waiting, in case if I ran into trouble.
That very case had happened a few times before. I've nearly drowned in the jungles violent rapids, almost been swallowed whole by a horrifically large python, gotten picked off by a sort of prehistoric bird, and gotten stuck in the web of a man-eating spider. In every instance, Kong had always showed up just in time to save me and take me away from, or kill, every threat I had been facing.
He was, really, my only friend.
Of course, not all creatures there were dangerous. There were others whose company I enjoyed too. But none quite like his. None that could understand me.
The humidity was already causing my clothes to stick to my skin. It was a rather irritating feeling that I had grown used to by now. My e/c eyes scanned the horizon. Off in the distance, it appeared as if a group of large birds were coming in. Maybe Petrosaurs of some kind? But no, that couldn't be right. They didn't look like any dinosaur I had seen before.
Then I noticed it. The low rumbling of engines working hard at their jobs in the distance. The sound bounced off the boulders and trees and soon spread all throughout. They were no living beings. They were helicopters. Every one of them.
The artificial noise stirred up something within me. I hadn't heard such a thing in...years. It brought back memories of life back in America. Civil life. Civil, comfortable, normal, quiet life.
Oh, how I had come to miss that...
The choppers gradually grew in size, meaning they were flying in closer.
My mind flooded with conflicting thoughts. The possibility of military helicopters just "passing through" the area was obviously very unlikely. They were probably going to touch down once they reached an open plain. What should I do? They won't last long in this place, even if they have all the weapons in the world. Should I go find them? But what if they're hostile? Then what?
I found myself absentmindedly gnawing at the ends of my nails. My teeth creating small divots that would lead to them snagging obnoxiously on the fabric of my clothes.
These people... they're just like me. Hostile or not, I can't just sit around and allow them to suffer in this place. I have to help. I can't NOT help.
That was it. I had made my decision. Was it reckless? Maybe, but I couldn't let that stop me.
I then began my climb down the grand mountain. Its steep slopes covered in the lingering dew of a recent rainfall, making the treck a bit more difficult than usual. My feet slipped a few times and I bashed my knees on the ground more than once, but I kept going. I knew these parts like the back of my hand. So long as I continued going east for about two miles, I would come to the clearing I often visited.
That was the closest field that I knew of, so it was likely that they might land there. If they indeed did land.
The walk was long and monotonous, and I couldn't seem to get my heart to slow its speedy pace. I was all jittery. My gut feeling kept running back and forth between being nervous to face other people for the first time in years, and yet being so very excited at the same time.
A great and mighty roar interrupted my thoughts, and I immediately halted in my tracks. The earth shook beneath my feet, and the trees trembled in response, but this was no earthquake. I lost my balance and quickly held onto the trunk of a palm, attempting to brace myself for whatever was causing such a thunderous commotion.
My heart stopped.
Explosions. Their horrible sounds came next. Still a long way off, through the thick leaves and limbs, I could barely make out the oh-so familiar orange hue of flames tinting the once peaceful morning sky.
I shot off down the rest of the path. It was like that night all over again. I HAD to reach them, and fast.
I pushed my legs to move as quickly as they humanly could. I don't think I had ever run so fast before. Not even to escape the likes of the Skull-Crawlers. No, this was a different type of fear. A feeling I hadn't experienced in ages. I swiftly cleared logs and never even once paused to untangle my hair when it inevitably got snagged on stretched out limbs. Low branches whipped at my face. I stumbled a few times, then instantly recovered and pressed on.
I knew exactly whose battle cries it was that rang blaringly in my sensitive human eardrums, and it made my stomach churn with dread.
𝙃𝙚 had found them, and now they were all at the mercy of 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙆𝙞𝙣𝙜.

First chapter's done, woo! I'll probably try to make each part longer from here on out, but we'll see. As a bonified perfectionist, I'm trying my very hardest to remember this story is just for some silly-goofy fun lol. I hope you enjoyed! More to come soon 🦍
But for now- enjoy some "bloopers" of this chapter ⬇️

Original sneak preview ticket for the 1976 King Kong at the theater I went to the most growing up.
So I was at a flea market some years back when I saw this in a stack of ephemera. It was like $3. I bought it. Then last summer I was purging a bunch of stuff and this came up and so I looked on eBay past results to see if these sell for anything. No results. So I put it up on eBay with a very low opening bid. Almost immediately someone messaged me and offered $100. This gave me pause so I didn’t respond. I wondered if I had something of value. So flash forward to the auction end and the thing ends up selling for over $400. I was stunned.
