Multi-instrumentalist Henika is back with the release of her quirky track and official video, 'The Future of the Species', written from the point of view of the female bird choosing her mate, and accompanied by a self-directed video featuring her own handcrafted paper mache masks, adding to its whimsy. Speaking of the track Henika says, "In the avian kingdom, it's often the male that has to prove his worthiness for reproduction by putting on an attractive display and it's the females who are in the position of power. I loved the idea of turning traditional gender tropes on their head, especially in a hip-hop inspired context where misogyny is still so rife. It's a tongue-in-cheek foray into a genre I have never really experimented with before but the core message genuinely resonates with me. "The song features sampled NZ native birdsong recorded on predator free sanctuaries which was then manipulated to form the rhythmic and melodic ideas. The lead instrument is a theremin, a hundred year old electronic instrument that is played without any physical contact." The video represents some of the native birds featured in her upcoming album; a kokako, kakapo, tieke, kiwi and tui, adding to the fever-dream that is her self-made video. "The half bird, half human idea is a way of bridging the gap between us and them. I want people to relate to the birds as having similar struggles but I also just love the surreal aspect of it. I wanted the video to look like something somebody taped off the TV on their VCR, and it's only just been found after 30 years. I set the video in the past so that the 'future' the song talks about becomes 'now' giving the message a new sense of urgency. I was inspired by 90s hip-hop videos, especially the wacky humour of the Beastie Boys. The dancers are from a troupe called Street Candee. They did all their own choreography on the spot."

The retro-pop duo Magdalena Bay are releasing their proper debut album, Mercurial World, in a couple months. They announced it with the dreamy 'Chaeri' and are now back with another new track, 'Secrets (Your Fire).' Itâs gliding and smooth, another impeccable blend of a whole lot of R&B/pop tropes. âSecrets is about interconnectivity, privacy, and digital anxiety,â the band said in a statement. âItâs also about a need to keep sharing, to keep giving up more and more of yourself to faceless strangers in the hopes of making friends or fans.â Watch the trackâs music video, in which the band rocks out inside a very â00s desktop, above. Two-piece songwriting partnership Before Breakfast have laid out plans for their new album I Could Be Asleep If It Weren't For You. Out on January 14, it finds the Sheffield duo blending alt-folk with some deeply personal lyricism, words that touch on personal independence, feminism, and more. Songwriting that explores shifts in perspectives, the new album affords Before Breakfast space to truly analyse their own lives and positions. We're able to share new single 'Wreck' and it's a pointed, intense return, one that blends their organic, acoustic elements with biting lyrics that dissect the aftermath of a break up. The story of a potential future being erased, 'Wreck' deals with the emotional turmoil that erupts following the end of a relationship. Gina Walters comments: âI thought that relationship was it: we were going to have babies, and when that ended it wasnât really about losing my partner. It was about losing this whole future I thought lay ahead of me, this whole family I would lose, my house, my cat⊠it was an absolute bombshell, and it still gets me over a year later.â [via Clash]

MarthaGunn have shared the video for new song 'Minute Of My Time'. The band's new single is out now, a punchy blast of indie energy ahead of debut album Something Good Will Happen. The record lands on September 17, with 'Minute Of My Time' exemplifying the dichotomous elements of their songwriting. Lyrically, it deals with a one-sided relationship, adding fuzzed out synth sounds to those snapping guitar lines. MarthaGunn's Abi Woodman comments... âThe most valuable thing we have in this life is our time and who we choose to give it to. Itâs so important to have balance in relationships. If you give someone more than they give you, you are wasting valuable life. Equally, to take time from someone else knowing you won't give back that same energy is wasting their time. This song is the moment that you see something or someone for what it is, and suddenly you have the power to decide whether you want to stay hanging on a thread, or to let go.â The video is online now, and it features the central character playing a Scrabble game to remember. Abi adds: âWords can mean a lot. Itâs so important to be direct with people and communicate what we really feel. Anything else feels dishonestâŠunless of course, you are playing Scrabble. In which case it is entirely acceptable to play word games.â [via Clash]

Bristol-based punk trio Grandmas House have announced that their self-titled debut EP will be landing via Brace Yourself Records on October 15, revealing snarling newâun âGoldenâ to get us excited for whatâs to come. Speaking about the new track, the group say, âWe wrote Golden about the government and other big powerful organizations ruling the show and getting richer from each other, whilst literally destroying the world.â [via DIY]

The Shivas first new music since the pandemic is the aptly titled Feels So Good // Feels So Bad, with the latest single specifically honing in on the cyclical nature of these extreme feelings. ââUndoneâ was written by myself as a kind of homage to the times in our life when we rebound from periods of darkness to states of exuberance that easily go too far into the realm of darkness all over again,â shares drummer Kristin Leonard, who also sings on the track. âWhen we bounce back from times of depression and anxiety and then find ourselves enjoying life a whole lot⊠Lifeâs about finding balance. But in order to find that balance, some healthy reflection and acceptance about where weâve been is necessary to push us forward with love and wisdom on our journey. So Undone is me reflecting on those aspects of myself. And I think most of us can relate.â On a lighter note, the video that arrives with the tunneling psych-pop single reflects another quick succession of emotional extremes: the long-anticipated return to dive bars and the subsequent expulsion from these bars after dancing behind the bar while the bartender is away. âThe video was shot by the wonderful and extremely talented Claude Cardenas, a.k.a. Yr First Crush,â Leonard continues. âIâm obsessed with everything Claude makes. Heâs able to capture such a stylized beauty that is uniquely his own and carries through in everything he creates.â [via FLOOD]

Canadian musician and model Dana Dentata has released her latest single and music video, 'Apology,' produced by Dylan Brady of 100 gecs and directed by Kathleen Dycaico in New York City. The artist also announced her upcoming album, Pantychrist, due September 3. Additionally, Dentata recently made history as the first female solo artist to sign to Roadrunner Records. On 'Apology,' two different personas fight for control. The first is an intimidating voice that practically growls at listeners until it crescendos into blood-curdling screams, telling listenersâand herselfââYou need to look in the mirror.â The second is a more melodic voice that lives in the background. Itâs completely at odds with the other sounds in the track, adding impossibly beautiful harmonization to the chaos. The hyper-distorted drum beats and lyrics feel designed to make the listener uncomfortable. Itâs a perfect match to the two contrasting personas, creating a unique listening experience where you can feel the artistâs frustrations oozing from every pore. [via Alt Press]

Toronto-based punk band Bad Waitress are set to release their debut album No Taste on Sept 3 via Royal Mountain. Following on from previous singles 'Strawberry Milkshake' and 'Delusions of Grandeur', the band are sharing their new track and video 'Rabbit Hole'. Speaking about the new track, the band said "'Rabbit Hole' plunges you headfirst into an airless spiral. Youâre unreachable, growing comfortable in the bleak nest youâve found yourself in, knowing those you love will tire of trying to dig you out. The song begins with rising tension that, with a rough shove, gives way to a deep sludgy conclusion. Dissonant guitars and jarring vocals bring you to that dark place and swallow you whole."

Sarah Barrios has released her latest single, 'Thank God You Introduced Me To Your Sister'. âThis song is one big messy, book-inspired, bisexual daydream and I canât wait for the world to fall into it with me," she explains. "In my head, Iâm way more confident and cool than I am in real life. I have crazy adventures, wild situations and get lost in way too many love tropes. After coming out earlier this year, I was really nervous about how I would talk to women, so I spent a lot of time daydreaming up crazy stories and this song was one of them.â 'Thank God You Introduced Me to Your Sister' was co-written by Sarah Barrios with Evan Gartner who also the producer of the track.

Pearl & the Oysters' latest video, for 'Evening Sun' is out now - it's a gorgeous psychedelic trip from Pear Juice Productions, "a non-traditional female-run visual art and film production space that allows for learning, growth, story telling, and dreaming into being." Here's a quote from the band about the song:  "One of the more somber tracks on the album. The idea for this song was to turn the âEndless Summerâ trope on its head, following our own reckoning with the fact that the once paradisiac promise of eternal Summer had actually turned into a dystopian menaceâold Florida tourism ads and classic sunshine state iconography seem particularly eerie nowadays. The lyric was also inspired by our rediscovery of long June days in Paris, when the sun doesnât set until 10pm, and the correlated experience of having become strangers in our hometown. We recorded the basic rhythm track with Greg Bette (aka Garçon de Plage) and Alexis Fugain (aka Biche) at Alexisâ Studio Claudio, located on a very peaceful property nearby a duck pond, about an hour outside of Paris. Back then the song wasnât fully fleshed out, but it magically came together in the studio. Working with Alexis on the initial arrangement of this track remains one of the highlights of the making of Flowerland."

Three years on since the release of Saturn, Nao has announced that her eagerly-awaited third album And Then Life Was Beautiful will be arriving on September 24, and now sheâs sharing new single âWaitâ to get us excited for whatâs to come. âThe song is really just voice and piano, and I donât think my audience has heard me so stripped back,â Nao says. Last month, Ohmmeâs Macie Stewart announced her debut solo album Mouth Full Of Glass with 'Finally.' Now, sheâs back with another new single, 'Garter Snake,' a lovely tangle of warm guitars and horns (played by Sen Morimoto) in which Stewart positions herself to strike: âNew, alone, and awake, I am a garter snake.â It comes with an eye-popping video directed by Emily Esperenza. Boston-based artist Carissa Johnsonâs forthcoming LP Blue Hourâout November 12âis a ten-track collection of kinetic, synth-laden indie-rock songs that serve as a chronicle of a year spent inside oneself; a study of loneliness, self-doubt, frustration and motivation backed by dreamy electronic production and driving percussion. Lyrically, many of the songs on Blue Hour are reflective of the isolation in which they were born, but musically, the record buzzes with the energy of collaboration, a sea of disparate influences coming together to create a modern indie-pop masterpiece. With New Wave-inspired synths backing Johnsonâs moody, expressive vocals, 'Wasting Dreams' sets the tone for Blue Hour, blending driving rhythms and catchy melodies with intimate lyricism. ââWasting Dreamsâ is like a quarantine fever dream,â says Johnson. âItâs about that feeling of being so wrapped up in your head that you canât even understand one ounce of reality. When everything shut down, I started to not feel like myself and was constantly asking myself âWhat am I working for? Is this going to go anywhere?â I felt like I was chasing after something, but didnât know what.â [via SPILL]

'Big Sunglasses,' the second single from TRISHESâ upcoming debut album The Id, brings together pop music and psychology. The trackâs title is a nod to the uniform that participants in Philip Zimbardoâs Stanford Prison Experiment wore if they were assigned to the guard position. Zimbardo was studying the effects of perceived power and how a group of volunteers would change their behavior based on whether they were assigned the role of guard or prisoner. Zimbardo was inspired by Stanley Milgramâs experiment that took note of volunteersâ obedience to authority figures when they perceived another person to be in pain or danger. The latter experiment is referenced in the video for 'Big Sunglasses.' TRISHES says, âIn the Milgram experiment participants were asked by a supervisor to shock another participant, who was secretly an actor, with increasing intensity for a study they were told was on memory. The study has been noted as one that shows the power of authority over our minds, but I think it tells us more than that. I think it gives us insights into how permission structures give us a sense of anonymity.â She adds, âIâve always been interested in the idea of anonymity and how it changes us. I think a lot about the human condition and how it has brought our society to a place of continued injustice and environmental collapse. Looking at who we are when we think no one is watching usâI think that reveals a lot about humanityâand understanding our darkest tendencies feels integral at this pivotal moment in human history.â In the video directed Jessica Lorenzo, the one-woman act splits herself into three, playing both teacher and learner. Bloxx have dropped their brand new EP, Pop Culture Radio, and followed it up with a video for the title track. The first collection of music since the release of debut album Lie Out Loud last August, it features the previously released singles âEverything Iâve Ever Learnedâ and âMagnetâ. Talking about the EP, Bloxxâs Fee Booth explains: âThis EP solely signifies a turning point in life (and is also my most favourite thing weâve ever done). I think I finally went âWow Iâm fucking old, everyone is young and Iâve wasted my life⊠and, I probably have some problems I need to fix.â. I think my substance abuse/mental health issues helped (in a weird way) to solidify just how real I was going to be with this record.â [via DIY]

Los Angeles rockers Dead Sara are back with a rousing new song called 'Heroes,' their first new music since the one-off release of the single 'Hands Up' last year. Along with the new tune, Dead Sara unleashed a high-octane music video for 'Heroes,' directed by Matthew Odom. The clip shows the band performing from their garage, living room, kitchen, and pretty much anywhere they can occupy some noisy space. 'Heroes' features singer Emily Armstrongâs strong, snarly voice as she delivers the anthemic chorus: âAll my heroes are dead now/ But theyâre living in my head/ Iâm giving up, Iâm giving up now.â [via Consequence]

UK electro-pop crooner Katy B is back, having just released a new single called 'Under My Skin' that serves as her first piece of solo music in five years. Katy B sounds right at home on 'Under My Skin,' scaling falsettos and low notes with ease while singing about a love gone sour. Musically, itâs a light and catchy number with snappy percussion, buoyant synths, and vocal runs galore. Part of that instrumentation is thanks to P2J, the Nigerian musician who co-wrote and produced the single. In a statement, Katy B said it was a âdreamâ to work with P2J on the song: âHeâs a fellow south Londoner like me and went to school with my brother. He told me back in the day my brother was always saying to him âyou have to work with my sisterâ and when we met, I instantly felt at ease. We wrote the song in my studio in my house and it just flowed. Heâs such a wizard with drums and even though the song is quite up tempo, the instrumentation had a pull of sadness too. I was feeling quite shocked and heartbroken at the time which is reflected in the song but I still wanted the lyrics to have a conclusion of hope, perseverance and self worth.â In the songâs accompanying music video, directed by Ash K Halliburton, Katy B can be seen lounging around on leather sofas and reclining in a stylish, vintage car. Around her, lights flash between deep reds and vibrant blues, emphasizing the moody undercurrent of the otherwise airy track. A few kaleidoscope shots are spliced throughout that give Katy B an opportunity to strike a pose while singing. [via Consequence]

Itâs been over two years since Lizzo exploded in popularity, partially because of the release of her 2019 album Cuz I Love You but also because of the surprising long-tail of some earlier singles, including 'Good As Hell' and 'Truth Hurts,' which made Lizzo a chart and pop cultural force to be reckoned with. Since that flurry of award-winning activity, though, Lizzo has been quietly working on a follow-up to all of that commotion. Now, the first fruits of that labor are upon us: 'Rumors,' Lizzoâs first new track in two years, is out now. It boasts a guest feature from Cardi B and is presumably the kickoff for a whole new Lizzo album cycle. [via Stereogum]

Produced by Fyfe and co-written with James New, Litany has a gift for painting specific memories as if sheâs commenting on them live, which makes âAdult Moviesâ engaging from its very first line. Two friends are drunk, high and watching adult movies ironically, which inevitably leads to more intimacy than either of them had planned. And then lust leads to love in the most unexpected of ways. Itâs a song that feels like the story to âSleepoverâ told from a different perspective. Litany says, âNeither I or my best friend had voiced that we'd been harbouring feelings for one another in the months leading up to New Year's Eve but introduce a load of drink, kitchen scissor haircuts and soft porn movies and naturally we ended up sleeping together (it was awesome). A few days later, I was just sat smiling in bed recalling all the cute and crazy shit we did that night, applied a melody and a couple hours later âAdult Moviesâ was born.â [via xsnoise]

Sydney pop artist Mia Rodriguez is back with her first new single of the year, a collaboration with Yung Baby Tate called âBillion Dollar Bitchâ. The track showcases Rodriguezâs sugary vocals juxtaposed with sharp lyrics, gritty percussion and an edgier sound than her past releases. Meanwhile Tate â who linked up with Tkay Maidza for âKimâ earlier this year â also injects her own flavour into the pop tune. A dark music video for the song sees a gothic Rodriguez devour an array of gold chains and other necklaces. Tate then appears as a surgeon, removing them from Rodriguezâs stomach. [via NME]

Itâs been a minute since SoulĂ©âs last single, but now sheâs returned with âQueenishâ and itâs been worth the wait. The Balbriggan singer has taken her time with new music since the beginning of the pandemic and having dominated the airwaves in 2019 with her Love Island-synced âLove Tonightâ the expectation was that her next single would be another anthem. Sheâs delivered with the dance-inducing âQueenishâ and simultaneously reaffirmed her status as one of Irelandâs most exciting pop stars. Speaking on Instagram about the colour palette around her new single SoulĂ© said, âThe colour orange represents warmth and excitement. After âLove Tonightâ I wanted to keep the theme of having a colour go hand in hand with my songs.â Continuing the Diffusion Lab artist explained more about the new track saying, âThe song is about being a boss independent powerful woman. All these things describe my mom. She was the inspiration for this songâ. [via District Mag]

Bittersweet or perhaps deceivingly sublime? Tragicomic? Is that anything? Needless to say, it can be difficult to perfectly capture the highs and lows that make up much of Gen Z's defining juxtaposing mood shifts. And few arguably do this better than chloe moriondo, an artist who stakes their claim on effortlessly wrapping all their anxieties and frustrations in a euphoric sonic bow. Joined by fellow enviable up-and-comer mazie, 'not okay' sees moriondo reveling in the joy of being anything but okay. Over whimsical production flourishes that betray the underlying sense of melancholia, moriondo and mazie trade verses on everything from potential sexual innuendos, losing friends, to existential dread. The entire affair plays out with an infectious degree of emotional sincerity, leaving you unsure if you're meant to dance, cry, or do a bit of both. Speaking on the collaboration, moriondo commented, "I love mazie so much, I'm so grateful to be a part of this song!! It's really perfect and I connect with Grace [mazie] so much, so this collab felt perfect :')." mazie added, "Working with Chloe on 'not okay' was such a dream. This was my first time getting to work with another artist and Chloe is a literal shining star. We had so much fun. I really enjoyed writing the song - I think everyone has been going through being not okay and I hope people find company in knowing that we aren't okay either." 'not okay' is a lot of things. It's an unexpected but welcomed collaboration from two of our favorite artists in the bittersweet pop space. It's an earworm of a song guaranteed to find a place in your head and your heart. But most of all, it's a salient reminder that not being okay is part of the human experience, and whether you find yourself laughing, crying, or dancing through the pain, we've all been there. Kipo 'kids' as mushrooms (because there's so many cool mushrooms)!!
Disclaimer! I am not a mushroom scientist :0
Kipo- Pleurotus djamor/Pink Oyster Mushroom; Color duh, but also their underside is usually brighter (secrets đ), and they grow in clusters! Kipo needs her friends
Wolf- Lactarius Indigo/Indigo Milk Cap/Blue Milk Mushroom; Mmmmblue, but eventually fades to silver- a.k.a losing childish wonder :( edible, but at what cost?? It can b bitter/peppery
Benson- Chanterelle Mushroom; popular, with a rich flavor n sweet smell (his awesome taste in music perhaps?) grow in clusters :D
Dave- Cortinarius porphyroideus/Purple Pouch Fungus; went through a few names before this one (like his cycle) n the name "king's pouch" was proposed which Dave would probably be ecstatic about
Mandu- Entoloma hochstetteri/Werewere-kokako; One of my favorite mushroom species!! They're super blue n aesthetic, but its unclear whether you can eat it or not- sort of how Mandu has some incredible hidden talents :D
Yumyan- Cortinarius violaceus/Violet Webcap; grows in the woods! Its rare (godlike status!!) n edible, but a lot of mushrooms in the same genus aren't so maaaybe don't take that risk??
Jamack- Gliophorus psittacinus/Parrot Toadstool/Parrot Waxcap; Green n shiny/slimy, like the spiffy boy he is. Unclear whether its edible or not, like his ever-questionable morals!!
Scarlemagne- Ophiocordyceps unilateralis; they essentially make zombie bugs that, when infected by the fungus' spores, go to the best spot for the fungus to grow- so yeah, both terrifying ::::)
Edit; added 'Kipo as' tag for future ones :)

Corey and Oats inâŠ
Oatsâs New Penguin Pal.
----------------------------------------------
Corey and Oats loved adventures and itâs a matter of fact there was always going to be a sequel adventure, and todayâs adventure was going to be that sequel, it was the 1st of December 2022 and Mel told them that Ysa was going to help them look for a NZ bird friend to join the bird trio, a kokako to be exact. The duo had just had lunch, and after lunch they were told by Mel they were going to Albany to find the bird.
After lunch the duo got ready and decided to bring a friend along with them, that friend being Christov the cold sore microbe. The duo headed out and headed over to where the floating van was and they hopped inside it and buckled up. The van took off as it went all over the city and stopping over at a store before taking off for Albany, the duo were very excited when they arrived at the parking lot, they hopped out of the van and followed Mel and Ysa, safely walking across the road as they did so.
When they got inside the mall they walked around and looked at the scenery before they followed Mel and Ysa and entered Whitcoulls, they looked over at the store before running around, they saw the stairs and carefully grabbed onto the rails as they walked upstairs which led to where the biggest selection was, the toys.
âHere we go boys, time to hunt.â
âYes, letâs go.â
They looked through the section, running around and going on a bit of a toy huntâŠthey looked through the multiple clearance sections and then went into the plush section, thatâs when they saw the kokako, the kokako bird appeared to be crying. âWhatâs wrong Mr Kokako?â âI cannot sing, what good am I if I cannot sing like the other birds?â âYou donât need to be like the other birds to find your voice, we can help you find your voice.â
The kokako cheered as he watched Corey and Oats put on a musical number, he cleared his throat as he joined in and performed a song of his own, Corey cheered him on. There were a group of TY Monstaz who couldnât find their voices too and luckily Oats was there to help them.
After helping them, Oats decided to adopt a new horse friendâŠa clydesdale horse named Cal and he decided to adopt a new bird friend too, while the Kokako had found his voice he couldnât use it for a little bit so they said goodbye to him and the Monstaz and headed down the stairs and left Whitcoulls. The bird they befriended was a yellow eyed penguin called Patricia.
They stopped at New World to pick up some things before leaving the mall and heading back in the van and heading up to buy some things before making one last stop before arriving back at Nile Road.
âThat was certainly fun.â
âYes, it certainly was.â
They played for a couple of hours and then Jeemo came and they all had a sing-song session, after their sing-song session they had dinner and they had some delicious food for dinner and for dessert they had ice cream, and thus after that they listened to music and had fun for a couple of hours.
A couple of hours later they did a bit of karaoke and when it was time to get ready for bed, they all went to the bedroom and put their nightclothes on as they brushed their teeth.
Oats and Corey snuggled up with Mel and Alcina as well as the new clydesdale and they all snuggled up and sweet dreams, and as per usual the adventure comes to an end, but not their adventures in general.
Stay tuned for âCorey and Oatsâs Galactic Journeyâ âCinnamon: Princess of the Flowery Forestâ and âReturn to Weta Workshopâ.

Hunt for the wilder aspect of New Zealand
New Post has been published on https://pressography.org/hunt-for-the-wilder-aspect-of-new-zealand/
Hunt for the wilder aspect of New Zealand
Zealandâs landscapes are on the silver screen. The Lord of the Jewelry movies confirmed off the majestic mountainous surroundings so properly they sparked a tourism increase â and 13% of visitors nonetheless cite Peter Jacksonâs cinematography in their selection to go to.
                         New Zealand
Weird News
Out next Friday (16 September), Hunt for the Wilder people, a comedy-drama directed with the aid of Taika Waititi and starring Sam Neill as He, grumpy foster uncle to Ricky (newcomer Julian Dennison), shines the highlight at the united states of America another time. The tale of a city youngsterâs adventures within the desolate tract broke field workplace data at domestic and had rave opinions on the Edinburgh Global Movie Festival (prevailing the coveted Target market Award). It was filmed in large part inside the North Islandâs Auckland location, in which seashores, rainforest, and vineyards surround New Zealandâs largest city. For the ones inspired to e-book a Kiwi adventure, here are five of the high-quality Movie-related options.
Stu Gilbert from SOS Survival Schooling coaches each person from airline crews to schoolchildren, so a session with him is a superb begin for might-be Wilder people, as Ricky dubs himself and Him. A former air pressure instructor, Stu shows learners the ropes in a fun session out in the bush on a large property in Muriwai, 45 minutesâ force from Auckland. After lessons at the fundamentals, he has participants foraging for logs, branches, and bracken to build a makeshift bed and refuge) and trying to light a fire the use of cotton wool, flint and metal (a lifeless phone battery also can paintings, apparently). We found the flint and metallic worked high-quality, with the right blend of tinder and kindling, and have been sparked up right away. Overnight and 3-day programs of complete bush immersion are to be had, too. A 35-minute ferry ride from downtown Auckland is lovely, bohemian Waiheke island. Maximum vacationers get round by car, motorcycle or maybe zip-lining â however, the Wilder people manner might be to leap on a horse like Rickyâs buddy Kahu (Torero Ngatai-Melbourne). Waiheke HorseWorx is a brand new operator that tours the seashores and bush tracks, taking in traditional Maori tradition and Waihekeâs famous wineries. Some of their steeds are Movie stars too: ask for Shaman if youâre a Hobbit fan (she changed into dwarf king Thorinâs mount). A standard four-hour excursion will begin with primary instruction, accompanied by a journey alongside beaches to Piritahi Marae community center for a conventional Maori welcome, earlier than a tea spoil and a trip to Cable Bay winery for meals and wine. Rather, in the middle of North Island, adventure enterprise River Valley in Taihape offers two- to four-day horse driving vacations from ÂŁ430pp.
The 8km coastal walk from Bethells Seashore to Muriwai takes in breathtaking perspectives of the coast west of Auckland and is a winner with locals and site visitors alike. Corey and Oats in..
The Amazing NZ Bird Hunt
Everyoneâs favorite duo went on a lot of fascinating adventures but one adventure that was on their goal list was to go on a New Zealand bird search to make some feathered friends, one afternoon the two of them were hanging out together when Mel came to them with an announcement. âGuess what you two?â âWhat? Are we going on an adventure?â âYes, itâs one of our goals..weâre going to look for some NZ birdie friends that Peter Weta and Issac will just love.â âThat sounds amazing.â
ïżœïżœïżœWill we be able to befriend them?â
âYesâŠâ
âThat is good.â
Mel instructed the two of them to get ready and after lunch thatâs what they did, the duo put on their special going out outfits and got their bag ready and walked over to the floating van that was parked outside. The two got in the van with Mel and went down the road, racing all over until they reached Glenfield Mall. They got out of the van and went down the escalator with Mel and once the escalator stopped, they jumped over and looked around. âWhere shall we go first?â âToyworld.â âSounds like a plan.â The group headed over to Toyworld and looked around in it, Corey floated over to the counter and cleared his throat. âExcuse me.â
âCan I help you two?â
âYes, we are looking for some of those birds that make cute sounds.â
The guide behind the counter told them where to find the birds. As they flew over to the display with the birds, several toys came to life and greeted them. Corey saw a mini kokako bird and put his ear close to it to see if it could singâŠâI cannot hear a song at all coming out of this bird.â âThatâs because I am not good at singing..â the Kokako cried. âIâm a bird but iâm not good at singing, iâm a failure.â âDonât have that kind of attitude.â Oats responded..âIf you want we can teach you to sing.â
The kokako smiled as he nodded, he liked the idea of being taught to sing and the duo performed a musical number with him which he learned how to duplicate as they performed a song together, the kokako hugged Corey as he felt better about his voice. Oats then looked through, looking at the other birds. âThe bigger kokako is out of stock sadly, so as much as iâd like to take this one homeâŠsorry.â âMaybe it doesnât have to be in order.â âGood thinking.â It is then Corey saw an adorable little tui and picked the tui up. âHello, Mr TuiâŠwould you like to be our friend?â âI sure wouldâŠlet me join you.â
The tui flew over to them as they introduced themselves to him, the tui went in the bag and the duo left Toyworld before heading over to Paper Plus, they were disappointed when they couldnât find any birds at Paper Plus. So they headed over to Elements and asked there, but there was only one bird thereâŠa kiwi in rugby uniform, so they headed out and then decided to head out to the Warehouse.
They looked over at the stuffed toy isles a number of times with Oats even taking a look at the coco surprise unicorn, a magical unicorn in an ice-cream cone, the unicorn neighed as she saw Oats and thought of him as a potential parent. Oats didnât want to break her heart, so he said heâd come back to her again soon. Corey spotted a koala hiding among the soft toys on the shelf and he hugged the koala.
Oats was tempted to take the unicorn home with him but he decided it was time to head to Whitcoulls, they headed over to Whitcoulls and searched among the soft toy section and that is where they saw a Pukeko that was eager to meet them. Thatâs when Oats decided he had found the right bird as he took the Pukeko and put him in the bag with the tui.
After heading to Whitcoulls the duo decided to play around as the area became a lovely forest playground they played on and took on flying forms with Oats becoming akin to a pegasus and Corey becoming half bird-like as they sang together, after playing around they headed to go and have some afternoon tea, they ordered hot chocolate with marshmallows and a lovely cinnamon roll.
When they sat down to eat they talked about all the fun they had, the tui and pukeko introduced themselves to the duoâŠâI am Tim and this is my pal Pedro.â the tui explained. âNice to meet you both.â Oats loved the rolls and he also really enjoyed the pink fluffy marshmallows that came with the hot chocolate, the two of them shared the drinks and hugged each-other.
âThis has been a really fun adventure.â
âDo you think weâll get to go on another one like this?â
âI definitely think so.â
Mel called them over after they had finished and told them it was time to go home, the group went back to the escalator and they jumped back up on it before heading out to the parking lot and hopping into the floating van. When they buckled up, the van took off into the air and whizzed through the town until it arrived back home at Nile Road. When they jumped out of the van, they were greeted by their friends. They floated in through the duo and thatâs where they saw Zara. âIâve got some new friends to introduce to you.â Corey responded, as the two birds flew out and introduced themselves to Zara. Zara thought the new birds were very cute as she hugged them. In addition to this, Zara brought her kokako friend over to meet the others and Corey was very excited to see this.
They celebrated and played together all afternoon and even though Jeemo didnât come that afternoon, they all were having a good time anyway and listening to music. They interacted and played together and had all sorts of fun together.
After their afternoon playtime it was dinner-time and they had some yummy food for dinner, they celebrated and played all night, they played around and had some more fantastic adventures throughout the evening and through the night, and the fun continued. After getting ready for bed at around nine thirty that night, they put on their night clothes and brushed their teeth (the birds brushed their beaks).
They listened to music for a little bit, and when it came for them to snuggle up, they got into bed at around 40 past ten, they all snuggled up together and as Corey and Oats closed their eyes and drifted off, dreaming of a new adventure with their bird friends as the bed transformed into a magical tram car as the duo went on a fantastic adventure through a bird reserve. And thus with that, they had a wonderful night and an equally as wonderful night-time adventure, but thatâs not the only adventure theyâll have.

Goals for this week
Move to the next stage with prototyping
Consider the material? We like the transparency of the chicken wire as a solid form.. Easy to hide when not lit, but if weâre to commit to using it, how to we make it so it doesnât look like chicken wire?Â
How can we develop a narrative from our concept? Storyboarding?
Layer other materials through the wire?Â
Look up: Ryoji Ikedo > Test pattern... Idea of âglitchâ.
Example: âSeventh sense (Excerpt) cell formationâ and âSeventh sense (excerpt) Anarchy Dance Theatreâ
If we were to layer other materials through the wire, we could cut sections out and use either polypropylene, acrylic or acetate to make petals. Then we could make it look like the flowers are growing through the wire. Like a vine?
Importance of sound:
We should consider sound as an important aspect when it comes to building the narrative. If we use glitches in the music, we can enhance the purpose of the glitches and make it look deliberate rather than an actual technical failure.Â
Playing with peopleâs perception
With use of layering up sound, we could play with people perception and understanding of what is happening. We can use to sound to add richness and depth and to confuse them. Key word: âVisceralâÂ
When the sounds of tuis are layered up it can sound like glitches
cicadas? Sometimes cicadas sound so intense it makes you wish you couldn't hear
When settlers first came to New Zealand and landed in the South Island, the sound of Mohua was so strong it was blinding. They couldnât stand to hear it. But now there are less than 5000 Mohua left, so their song isnât anywhere near as strong.
Kokako. Usually heard before theyâre seen. Tui are known to copy their bird song. Sounds like a horn, easing in and out of sound. Pitch changes goes from quite to loud in short then long spurts
