11.11.2024 + 13.11.2024 // autumn quarter
i've been making steady progress on the integrated korean textbook! i'm on the fourth dialogue (the second half of the second lesson) and so far i'm finding that having things explicitly stated with practice problems allows me to drill things into my head. i also really like that the KLEAR youtube channel has videos to go along with each lesson! i've definitely been using them for listening practise :) (also, can you believe it's already near the end of the quarter? wild!)

So, I was re-watching the Glass Onion, and I just noticed something thing.
They all sold their souls to Miles when they sided with him against Andi in the court case, they all watched as he fucked Andi over without a second thought and yet none of them saw that Miles was about to do the same with them.
They all knew the guy was a certifiable ass and that he would do anything to go out on top, and yet none of them saw that they were about to get fucked by Miles.
I mean, Peg knew Miles was about to implode what was left of Birdie's reputation and career, even if Birdie convinced herself it was a great deal, one that she didn't even have it in writing may I add. Miles could very easily back out of buying Birdie's shares after the scandal, and she would have no way of proving they had a deal or that Miles was even involved in the sweatshop thing.
The same with Lionel and Claire, Miles was pushing for Klear, but the people singing off on it were Miles and Claire, Miles would probably make millions out of it, and when shit quite literally hit the fan, he would just pin the whole thing on them. An employee and a politician who disregarded his concerns about Klear to deadly consequences.
Duke was just going to keep being Duke until he lost his YouTube channel, and Miles left him in the dirt. As he himself said, Duke was never getting into Alpha News.

"GLASS ONION: A KNIVES OUT MYSTERY" (2022) Review

"GLASS ONION: A KNIVES OUT MYSTERY" (2022) Review Following the success of his 2019 murder mystery, "KNIVES OUT"; writer-director Rian Johnson created a standalone sequel called "GLASS ONION: A KNIVES OUT MYSTERY". The movie starred Daniel Craig, who reprised his role as the Louisiana-born master detective, Benoit Blanc.
Set during the early months of the COVID-19 pandemic, "GLASS ONION: A KNIVES OUT MYSTERY" . . . or "GLASS ONION" . . . featured Blanc solving a case that revolved around a tech billionaire named Miles Bron, owner and co-founder of the Alpha tech company, and his closest "friends" at the billionaire's private Greek island. The movie began with several of Bron's friends each receiving a wooden puzzle box to decipher to find an invitation inside - an invitation to a murder mystery game. The friends travel to Miles's island, along with companions for two of the guests. Famous detective Benoit Blanc joins them. Miles claimed he did not invite Blanc, but he allowed the latter to stay, assuming another guest sent him an invitation as a joke. Among those invited include: *Alpha head scientist Lionel Toussaint *Connecticut governor Claire Debell *Controversial fashion designer and model Birdie Jay *Birdie's personal assistant Peg *Men's rights streamer Duke Cody *Whiskey, Duke's girlfriend and Twitch channel assistant *Ousted Alpha co-founder Cassandra "Andi" Brand Not long after their arrival and before dinner, Miles showed off his valuable glass sculptures, as well as the Mona Lisa, which he has on loan from the Louvre to his guests. Miles also revealed that his mansion is powered by "Klear", a hydrogen-based alternative fuel that Alpha will launch imminently, despite Lionel and Claire's concerns that it is untested and dangerous. Blanc managed to solve Miles's murder mystery game immediately before it could barely start. But he privately warned Miles that his guests have motives to kill him. Before the first day could end, a murder occurred inside the mansion. Once again, Rian Johnson utilized a social issue as a theme for his second murder mystery. In the case of "GLASS ONION", one would think the issue revolved around Birdie's casual racism or Duke's sexism. But the real issue seemed to be the character of Miles Bron. It did not take me long to realize that Johnson had based Miles on tech billionaires like Jeff Bezos, Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg and Larry Page. But many have claimed that the Miles Bron bore the strongest resemblance to the most publicized tech mogul - Elon Musk. This movie seemed more focused on condemning the tech mogul types and probably the Internet celebrities than simply focusing on the usual social issues. I am not criticizing Johnson for this, especially since many of these tech moguls have proven to be influential on society today. Perhaps too influential . . . and for better or worse. In the case of Miles Bron, the worse seemed more obvious. Miles' impact on the major characters seemed to be more personal than political. Both Lionel and Claire find themselves being forced by Miles to endorse his new alternative fuel, Klear; despite their fears that is untested and dangerous. Such endorsement would endanger their reputations and careers. Birdie needs Miles' financial support for her fashion line following the revelation that her factories were basically sweatshops. And Duke hopes Miles will give him a show on the latter's Alpha News network. Unfortunately, Miles has developed a sexual interest in Whiskey, Duke's girlfriend. However, Johnson's screenplay seemed more interested in the negative portrayal of Miles as the typical tech billionaire than his connections to the movie's other major characters. And this emphasis on tech moguls like Miles Bron, despite being genuinely interesting and entertaining, seemed to have a less powerful message than the one used in 2019's "KNIVES OUT". "GLASS ONION: A KNIVES OUT MYSTERY" featured some very interesting characters, who almost struck me as borderline cartoonish. Mind you, I thought some of the characters managed to avoid this slight cartoonish taint - especially Benoit, Andi Brand, Claire Debella and Lionel Toussaint. But I found some of the other characters slightly exaggerated, yet at the same time, entertaining. Whether I found their characters exaggerated or not, I cannot deny that this movie featured some first-rate performances. I did not have an issue with one performance in this film. Kathryn Hahn, Leslie Odom, Jr., Kate Hudson, Jessica Henwick, Madelyn Cline and Noah Segan all gave first-rate performances. The movie also featured entertaining cameos from the likes of Hugh Grant, Angela Landsbury, Ethan Hawke, Stephen Sondheim, Natasha Lyonne, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Jake Tapper and Serena Williams. The movie even featured images of Jeremy Renner and Jared Leto on appear on bottles of hot sauce and kombucha. But there were performances that impressed just a bit more than others. One of those performances came from Dave Baustista, who was not only surprisingly effective as the sexist Duke, but also managed to convey more layers behind what could have easily been a cartoonish character in the hands of a less talented actor. I realize many would find this hard to believe but I did find the Miles Bron character a bit exaggerated at times. But Edward Norton gave such a fabulous performance as the arrogant and self-involved Miles that his exaggeration almost seemed natural to me. Janelle Monáe managed to attract a great deal of positive reviews for her performance as "Andi" Brand. And I can see why. She gave a phenomenal performance as co-founder of Alpha, who seemed embittered by Miles' ouster of her, following her refusal to support his new alternative fuel, Klear. More importantly, Monáe did an excellent job in conveying her character's edgy and intense personality, which kept everyone else on edge . . . and wondering if she had changed. Not surprisingly, Daniel Craig gave a perfect performance in his second outing as the New Orleans-born private detective Benoit Blanc. Not only did he managed to tone down his Foghorn Leghorn routine from the first film, I found myself entertained by his conveyance of Blanc's reactions to the lunacy and shallowness of Miles and most of his fellow guests. But as much as I had enjoyed the movie's narrative, I had a few issues. Once, since this movie was set in May 2020, were audiences really supposed to accept Miles' quickie COVID-19 cure as effective? Considering Blanc's opinion of the billionaire, I rather doubt it. I suspect that Blanc, Miles and the latter's guests were forced to monitor their health, following their departure from the island. When the party's first real victim dropped dead, I immediately knew the killer's identity. This aspect of "GLASS ONION" bore a strong resemblance to one or two of Agatha Christie's novels. Also, I had a problem with the movie's revelation scene after Blanc exposed the real killer. I wish I could go into details about why I found the writing for that scene very contrived, but I do not want to spoil the movie. Oh well. At least I was impressed by Bob Ducsay's editing, especially in the film's revelation scene; and Steve Yedlin's colorful photography of the Greek locations, especially in the movie's first twenty minutes or so. Despite my few issues regarding "GLASS ONION: A KNIVES OUT MYSTERY", I must admit that I still managed to enjoy it very much. The film benefited from Rian Johnson's screenplay and direction, along with first-rate performances from a cast led by Daniel Craig. Like I said, I enjoyed the movie very much. But I still believe "KNIVES OUT" was the superior film.

Yeah, I was basically going off the idea that if Miles was smart they’d be no reason for him to be evil/amoral, since there isn’t THAT much pointing towards him being amoral other than forcing things because he's dumb (Klear Power Plant, putting Klear on a manned mission).
I did also forget to mention that he might help out his friends a bit more, but that might actually end up working a bit against him since they’d be less under his thumb, like saving Duke and setting him up at YouTube when he got banned from Twitch, and Birdie using a sweatshop to make Sweetie Pants… if Miles had been more clever, he may have told Duke "Maybe you should be trying to sell these pills to kids" and tell Birdie that she shouldn’t use a sweat shop. But like I said, if he had done that, Duke wouldn’t be indebted to him promoting his YouTube channel, Birdie wouldn’t have to take a fall for Sweetie Pants being made in a sweat shop… although somehow I get the feeling that Miles may have been the one to suggest the site in Bangladesh in the first place.
There is also the possibility that if Miles was smarter he would still kill Andi, and also kill Duke when he blackmails him, he'd just be a lot better at covering his tracks, like not using his baby blue Porsche as a vehicle to meet and then get away from Andi's place, and not keep incriminating evidence around (Duke's phone, the envelope with the napkin) and Blanc might have had his suspicions about what happened, but he'd have no proof.
So, I proposed an idea, jokingly, to a friend. The idea was Glass Onion, if Miles Bron was smart. The joke being that Glass Onion wouldn’t have happened if Miles was smart.
But then I started thinking… what would happen instead?
And I’m not going to make Miles Bron too smart for this, I’m going to give him about my level of intelligence. Whether that’s a lot or not it up for interpretation.
So, the main thing that kicks off the conflict of Glass Onion is Klear. That’s what causes the split between Miles and Andi.
On paper, Klear sounds great. It’s made out of sea water, which is a plentiful resource. It’s hydrogen fuel, which is arguably one of the fuels of the future, especially since when it mixes with oxygen, what do we get? Water. And since you’ve been taking the hydrogen for it from the sea, you could consider it a renewable form of energy. It sounds almost too good to be true. And to be fair, it’s not that the FUEL was bad. It’s just that Miles is an idiot.
So, what’d happen if he was smart? He’d listen to Andi, because he knows she is smarter than him, and kicking her out of the company, when she likely does the lion's share of running it, isn’t the best idea.
So he'd probably be like "Ok, I hear your concerns, I won’t push for us to put everything behind this, but can we give it to Lionel to test it?" And Andi would, hopefully, agree. From what we see if Andi she's not unreasonable.
And Lionel would come back with what we already know: That it is a source of power, but it’s also very volatile and most houses do not have tight enough piping for it, so they’d leak hydrogen gas. Which would be BAD.
So Miles would go back to Andi these findings with another suggestion… develop piping that WOULD be safe for this. Maybe even offer one of your own places as the testing grounds for this new piping.
Like
He would still push for them to explore all avenues with Klear, but he wouldn’t insist upon throwing the entirety of Alpha behind it. He's still relatively young, like late 30s, mid 40s… however old he is, he has time. If Klear becomes a major power source, he would still be remembered as the one who set down a lot of the groundwork to get it going.
But the main issue with putting it in houses that Lionel mentioned was the piping. So if you fix the piping, is there still a problem? If there is. Lionel will likely bring it up. Part of being smart is listening to people who know more about subjects than you, after all. Recognising you don’t know everything, and that other people know some things better than you.
But yeah, Andi wouldn’t die, Duke wouldn’t die, he wouldn’t ruin his friend's campaign or risk ruining Lionel's name…
And there’s a bunch of other stuff that likely wouldn’t have happened. He would have advised Birdie AGAINST using a sweat shop, might have advised Duke to tone down the mandom stuff… Basically a smarter Miles Bron would have likely worked out better for all involved.
But then, we wouldn’t get one of the best moments of the film…
"It’s so dumb…"
"So dumb it's BRILLIANT!"
"NO! It's just dumb!"
But in terms of people staying alive, and not ruining Alpha? Turns out better for everyone involved.

working through the integrated korean one textbook! honestly i'm really glad to have a textbook to go off of; i'm not very good at setting and evaluating goals for myself, so it's good to have something with a bit more structure. i think the level of difficulty is good, too—i can recognise a lot of the vocab, but the explanations of the grammar help a lot, so now i can (probably) hold a basic conversation with some decent level of confidence. i also tracked down the KLEAR youtube channel, so i can listen to the dialogues/narrations as i read them, which is really helpful.
as for bengali, i'm working through the consonants—today i worked through retroflexes and dentals, so i'm halfway through the consonant portion of the script tutor. i'm planning on cracking open the textbook and mango languages soon, probably tomorrow, so hopefully i'll start making progress beyond the alphabet.

So, I rewatched Glass Onion today, second time watching it, and
Like all the cool kids on Tumblr, I have an idea.
I was gonna put this under a read more but y'know what, I'mma tag it with spoilers and that should be enough. Besides, if you haven't watched it yet... what's wrong with you? >:I
ANYWAY.
At the end of the movie, things aren't looking good for the two non-'Disruptors'.
Birdie is basically a sinking ship at this point. She's already signed the statement taking full blame for the sweatshop thing, and even if she tried to weasel out of it, there is solid evidence that she (seemed to) know what she was doing. And Birdie's not going to be getting the money for her shares after testifying against Miles. Peg will have to leave, or go down with the sinking ship, and neither option is great for her having future work.
And on the other hand, we have Whiskey. Now that Duke's dead, she can't really use him to increase her media presence any more. She could try to continue his channel, but that doesn't seem like a good idea. Because A. His channel was dying, and B. It'd be too much of a shift from the maledom bullshit to her running the channel all on her own. Her plan was to get herself out there enough and then eventually run for politics. So that may be what she'll do.
However, while Whiskey is smart, she will still need an assistant. Someone capable of keeping up with a hectic schedule, someone who knows to hold her back, who knows when they should stay quiet, and what not to say. Because as smart as Whiskey is, people do make accidents.
And Peg is very good at keeping Birdie off of social media when she needs to, and will likely appreciate having someone with more brain cells to assist.
So, why don't they go together? Whiskey enters politics, with Peg as her assistant.
And the idea doesn't stop there! Considering that the Disruptors are going to testify AGAIN Miles Bron, so he's going to go away for, y'know, definitely one murder (one of them said they would testify that they saw him driving away from Andi's house), maybe two (they were all there to see him give Duke pineapple juice), one attempted murder (one of them said they'd testify that Miles took Duke's gun), and likely have Alpha taken away from him as well (one said they'd testify that they saw the napkin), or at least, what's LEFT of Alpha, Helen might end up finding herself with a bit of money. Enough to fund, say, someone she became pretty fast friends with on a Grecian island, after talking to her once and finding out that she was a lot more than just a pretty face.
Of course, due to the fiasco with Klear, it might be that Alpha is completely bankrupt and in deep debt and completely dissolved before Helen can acquire it.
But the main crux of my theory is that Whiskey and Peg at least know each other, Whiskey has seen what a hard worker Peg is, and knows how much of a disaster Birdie would be without her, and Peg knows Whiskey, and likely knows, like Helen does, that she is more than just a pretty face. And even if not, can you think of someone else who Whiskey would hire as an assistant?
She might want to hire Claire, but if she did, it would likely be as an advisor more than anything else. And it might just be that her name is mud by the time this comes around in which case Whiskey would want to distance herself from her.
Here's the thing though, even if the disruptor's names are mud after this, because they would have to admit to perjury, or at least the one who will testify about the napkin will. Lionel will be in trouble for trying to push Klear when it comes out how dangerous it is, Claire will be in trouble for pushing for the power plant when she knew how dangerous it is, Birdie's going to be in trouble for the sweat shop thing...
But they could still make comebacks from this. It's not impossible, stranger things have happened.
You know who won't be making a comeback, though?
Miles Bron, the man who decided to power his house on an experimental fuel he had been told was dangerous, and which led to the Mona Lisa being burnt.
At least, while he is in prison, he will have the comfort of knowing that he is spoken of in the same breath as the Mona Lisa...
Even if that comfort is miniscule, considering he was the man who destroyed it.

How can digital marketing increase ROI?
Digital Marketing is cheaper than traditional marketing techniques and it has led to increased ROI in many industries for many years.
One of the reasons is that it has made it easier to track campaign results online, analyze ROI almost instantly based on data and make improvements if necessary.
Digital marketing allows you to target specific audiences (or likely to be of interest to specific groups of people) based on their demographics, interests or behaviours which results in a more effective advertising campaign and thus resulting in reaching the right people with your ads and campaigns, improving engagement and generate results.
Digital marketing can also help you increase your business visibility, connect with more prospects, and drive more traffic to your website. This leads to a lower CPA (cost per acquisition) cost.
Additionally, it can help to automate many marketing tasks, which can reduce the need for human resources. All of these contribute to increased ROI from digital marketing campaigns.
Best examples of digital marketing strategies that can increase ROI include Search Engine Optimization (SEO), Search Engine Marketing (SEM), Social Media Marketing (SMM), and Email Marketing. The latest addition is Influencer Marketing.

“Influencers have a 10:1 ROI compared to paid media” - klear’s study
“E-Mail marketing’s return on investment (ROI) is 36USD” - Statista
“Social quietly matures out of the marketing department. Confidence in social ROI is at an all-time high. For over a decade, marketing leaders have struggled to quantitatively link social media to business outcomes. Now, after being forced to rely on social significantly more during the pandemic, it seems something has clicked” - Global Social Media Trends 2022 by Hootsuite.
“With targeted experiences through automated SMS flows, brands see 4x higher ROI than any other SMS campaign” - SMS Marketing Guide by Yotpo
“Marketers who prioritize blogging see 13 times the ROI compared to those that don't” - HubSpot
“SEO ROI can be as high as 12.2x marketing spend” - Terakeet
Pro-Tip: Consistent efforts are a must to generate the best ROI from digital marketing. This includes experimentation with multiple marketing channels and creating different ad creatives to engage the target audience.
