A Gintama episode a day keeps the ending away...Episode 78

Episode Title: People Who Are Picky About Food Are Also Picky About People, Too

MY 15 FAVORITE MOMENTS IN EPISODE 78 (manga chaps 115 and 116):

Warning: lotsa Hijikata fangirling ahead. Prepare to join in or be sick. Also, boo to the anime team for leaving out one of the cutest and most important moments from the manga: first time ever Okita wishing death on Hijikata. It was nothing short of criminal leaving out that scene! 

1) On the one hand, I understand Kondou’s shock at Sougo’s defeat was genuine and yet another indication of just how strong Okita was, but on the other, he was still being pretty melodramatic. After all, Sougo was just hurt, not dead.

2) And the reason for why Sougo was hurt. All hail The Queen!

3) Shinpachi freaking out over the photographic evidence.

4) Definitely less disgusting than drenching everything with ketchup. Not to mention, Kewpie mayo is not bad. Definitely loads better than Miracle Whip.

5) The Hijikata vs. Kitaouji fight was pretty cool, especially how it went from 0 to 100 in blink of an eye. 

6) He’s so beautiful even when his beautiful face is all marked up with beautiful bruises.

7) Kitaouji’s old school eyes looked more like puckered lips to me, but Hijikata’s butts comments was of course funnier. 

8) I remember watching this episode with my cousin and we both just screamed as soon as young Toshirou appeared.

9) I actually prefer how Kondou looks now. He looked just like any random background character back then, but present day Kondou is definitely more distinctive and handsome.

10) We screamed again just seeing baby Sougo’s back.

11) HESOPRECIOUSIDIED!!!!

12) How can anyone look that beautiful with their face all fucked up???? He’s just not human. I miss his long hair so much. Just imagining him with that hair in his Shinsengumi uniform is enough to make my knees go weak.

13) Hijikata’s awesome KO move.

14) Just because.

15) Toujou had such a badass intro into the fight. I remember being shocked at his cold betrayal of Minamito. Who knew he would turn out to be such a goofy dork? 

SHIPS TALLY: 

Kondou x Otae: naturally since he’s here for her.

Kondou x Hijikata: there’s obviously a lot of love and respect shared between them. I of course can only interpret it as brotherly love, but I absolutely understand if others interpret it differently since there’s ample evidence to support that view too.

Disclaimer: Gintama is not only about shipping. Gintama is hilarious, clever, exciting, poignant, heart-breaking, loving, brilliant, and just completely unbelievably amazing.  It is only due to Sorachi-sama’s immense generosity that I am able enjoy Gintama on an extra another level, the shippy level, and I am forever grateful for that. GINTAMA IS LIFE AND LOVE.
