Kiria Tapia vs Shamara Woods - 2019

A new name for you guys. Kiria Tapia is a former amateur boxer that has represented Puerto Rico for like 15 years now. She’s won gold at the Pan-Ams. She competed at the 2020ne Olympics, winning her first match before losing to eventual bronze medalist Alessia Mesiano of Italy. She’s got wins over women like Queen Underwood, Tiara Brown, Mikaela Mayer, Erica Farias, and Erika Cruz from her days on the amateur scene.

Now, at 32, Tapia is ready to make her run on the pro scene. She makes her debut this Thursday (Oct. 20) against Hanna Rosario (1-0).

At the Guadalajara 2011, Pan Am Games, Kiria Tapia from Hatillo Puerto Rico decisively won the lightweight (60 kg.) gold medal against Mexican opponent, Erika Cruz. In her quest to the medal Kiria fought and won in quarter finals against 2010 Women's Bronze World Champion, Queen Underwood from Seattle WA with a scoring of 17:17 (corners) - 48:41 (judges).

Kiria will now focus on the China World Championship in her quest to classify to the 2012 London Olympics. Good luck in your journey to London, Kiria! All of PR is with you.

Puerto Rican amateur boxer Kiria Tapia will be joining the pro ranks! She’s also planning on competing at the 2024 Olympic Games.

Tapia isn’t a former Olympian but she’s competed internationally since like 2007. She’s got ring time with women like Mikaela Mayer, Tiara Brown, Erica Farias, Queen Underwood, Melissa Oddessa Parker, and other world level talent. That level of experience is only going to serve the lightweight well. Can’t blame her after seeing the support Serrano got for her fight with Taylor.
