[ad_1] Gujarat Titans take on Punjab Kings in Match 5 of IPL 2025 (PC:X) Gujarat Titans vs Punjab Kings Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad at 7.30 pm What to expect Uncapped players have taken this tournament by surprise, and we can expect nothing less than another high-octane encounter in Ahmedabad. It will be a contest between Gujarat Titans’ specialists and Punjab Kings’ all-rounders. With Shreyas Iyer, a title-winning captain with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) last season, at the helm and a revamped squad, Punjab Kings (PBKS) might come into this game—and the tournament—believing that this is their season. Meanwhile, Gujarat Titans(GT), led by Shubman Gill, who struggled for consistency last season, will look to set the tone for their campaign with a strong start. Key battle The middle order of GT—Glenn Phillips and Shahrukh Khan—will likely be up against one of the most successful bowlers in IPL history, Yuzvendra Chahal. Tackling and countering him could be crucial for GT to either set or chase a massive total. GT Likely XI A bowling-heavy team, GT will be relying on their top four batters to set the tone. There are no injury concerns for this game. Shubman Gill (c), Jos Buttler, Sai Sudarshan, Glenn Philips, Shahrukh Khan, Washington Sundar, Rahul Tewatia, Rashid Khan, Kagiso Rabada, Prasidh Krishna, Mohammed Siraj. Impact sub: Sai Kishore PBKS Likely XI With three world-class all-rounders—Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, and Marco Jansen—Punjab will have the option of choosing between an extra batter or an additional overseas pacer in Lockie Ferguson. Shreyas Iyer (c), Prabhsimran Singh, PriyanshArya/Vijaykumar Vyshak, Marcus Stoinis, Glenn Maxwell, Yuzvendra Chahal, Nehal Wadhera, Marco Jansen, Harpreet Brar, Lockie Ferguson/Josh Inglis, Arshdeep Singh Impact sub: Shashank Singh Pitch and weather The pitch at the Narendra Modi Stadium could prove to be another batter’s paradise, leading to a high-scoring contest. However, it can also play the other way, as GT were bowled out for 89 against Delhi last season, while SRH’s explosive batting line-up could only manage scores of 159 and 162. The average score here remains around 200. Pacers might find some movement early in the innings, but as the match progresses, the surface tends to slow down. Chasing might be the preferred option, as six of the last eight encounters at this venue have been won by the team batting second. Top 5 IPL Moments That Defined Cricketing History
The Indian Premier League (IPL) is more than just a cricket tournament. It's a celebration of skill, entertainment, and drama, with every season delivering unforgettable moments. From breathtaking performances to shocking upsets, the IPL has brought cricket fans some of the most iconic moments in the sport’s history. Here, we take a look at the top 5 IPL moments that not only defined the league but also made their mark on cricketing history.
1. Brendon McCullum's Explosive 158 (2008)*
The inaugural match of the IPL 2008 set the tone for what would become one of the most exhilarating cricket tournaments in the world. Brendon McCullum, playing for Kolkata Knight Riders, took the stage in the very first game and delivered one of the most sensational knocks in IPL history.
In a match against Royal Challengers Bangalore, McCullum smashed an unbeaten 158 runs off 73 balls. His innings, which included 10 sixes and 13 fours, was an absolute game-changer. This explosive performance set the benchmark for power-hitting in the IPL and made it clear that the league was not just about skill, but also about entertainment and explosive batting.
McCullum's knock remains one of the highest individual scores in IPL history, and it is one of those iconic moments that all cricket fans associate with the early days of the IPL. His innings changed the way T20 cricket was played, showing the world that IPL wasn’t just about team spirit, but individual brilliance as well.
2. MS Dhoni's Helicopter Shot and Captaining Brilliance (2008-2023)
When it comes to defining moments in IPL history, one name that constantly comes up is MS Dhoni. Known for his calm demeanor and unmatched leadership, Dhoni’s influence on the IPL is unparalleled. His innovative batting and leadership helped transform Chennai Super Kings into one of the most successful teams in the history of the IPL.
Among the many moments, his iconic helicopter shot has left an indelible mark on the IPL. Dhoni used this unique shot to hit sixes with ease, often turning games around in the final overs. Whether it was chasing down a big total or setting one, Dhoni’s tactical brilliance was always evident, leading CSK to multiple titles.
One of the most defining moments came during the 2010 IPL final when Dhoni led Chennai to victory over Mumbai Indians, securing his first IPL trophy as captain. This win cemented his legacy as one of the greatest captains in cricket history. Under Dhoni, Chennai became the most consistent team in the IPL, and his leadership continues to inspire players to this day.

3. The 2016 IPL Final: RCB vs. Sunrisers Hyderabad
The 2016 IPL final between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) remains one of the most memorable matches in IPL history. RCB, led by the explosive Virat Kohli, had been in red-hot form throughout the season. With Kohli in sensational form, scoring 973 runs in the tournament, RCB were favorites to lift the trophy.
However, it was the underdog Sunrisers Hyderabad who clinched the IPL 2016 title. In a tense final, SRH’s bowling attack, led by Ben Cutting and Bhuvneshwar Kumar, put the brakes on RCB’s chase. With some key wickets and tight bowling, SRH restricted RCB to just 200 runs, securing a victory by 8 runs.
This moment marked a turning point for SRH and propelled them into the IPL’s elite group of teams. The win also highlighted the importance of a well-rounded team effort over individual brilliance, as Sunrisers Hyderabad’s balanced squad outperformed the star-studded RCB lineup in the final.
4. Kieron Pollard's Incredible Match-Winning Knock (2019)
Kieron Pollard is known for his finishing abilities and match-winning performances, but the 2019 season of IPL truly elevated him to legendary status. In a thrilling encounter between Mumbai Indians and Kings XI Punjab, Pollard played an unforgettable knock that saw him hit sixes and boundaries in quick succession, changing the course of the game in the final overs.
When Mumbai were struggling at 132/4 in the 16th over, Pollard took control, blasting an unbeaten 83 runs off just 31 balls. His brilliant power-hitting helped Mumbai post a daunting target of 186 runs, which they successfully defended.
Pollard’s match-winning knock wasn’t just about the runs he scored but the manner in which he handled the pressure. His calm demeanor under pressure and ability to perform in the final stages of the game made this one of the most remarkable IPL moments. It was a classic example of how a single player’s performance can turn a match on its head, proving why Pollard is one of the best finishers in the IPL.
5. The 2019 IPL Final: A Thrilling Mumbai Indians Victory
The 2019 IPL final between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) remains one of the closest and most thrilling finals in IPL history. Both teams, led by their charismatic captains Rohit Sharma and MS Dhoni, had been dominant throughout the season, and the final lived up to the hype.
Mumbai Indians clinched the title by just 1 run in a nerve-wracking finish. Chennai needed 9 runs off the final over, and it was a last-ball thriller that had fans at the edge of their seats. While MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja fought hard till the very end, the experienced MI bowlers, particularly Jasprit Bumrah, held their nerves and secured a famous win.
This victory marked Mumbai Indians’ fourth IPL title, the most by any team, and solidified their position as the dominant force in IPL history. The match was a perfect encapsulation of the drama and excitement that the IPL is known for, with a thrilling finish that kept fans glued to their screens until the last ball.
Conclusion
The IPL has given us many unforgettable moments, but these top 5 IPL moments stand out as defining events in cricketing history. Whether it’s Brendon McCullum’s explosive debut, MS Dhoni’s leadership, or thrilling final moments like those in the 2019 IPL, these moments remind us why the IPL continues to capture the imagination of millions around the world.
Each of these moments not only shaped the league but also changed the way we view T20 cricket, making the IPL a true spectacle of athleticism, drama, and passion. As we look ahead to future seasons, we can only hope that the IPL continues to deliver moments that will inspire the next generation of cricketers and fans alike.

Top 3 Centuries By Virat Kohli In The IPL
Virat Kohli has a legitimate claim to be the best batsman in contemporary cricket. Around the course of his more than ten-year international career, former India captain Virat Kohli has made bowlers' lives miserable all around the world. The batting icon is just the second Indian batsman after Sachin Tendulkar to reach the 25,000-run mark in international cricket, having already amassed over 27,000 runs. With 81 tons under his belt, Kohli is also ranked second among batsmen with the most hundreds in international cricket. He moved up to second position after surpassing Ricky Ponting's record of 71 centuries with a century against Bangladesh in the third ODI in 2022. Out of all the players that are currently playing, Kohli has the most international hundreds. The top slot is occupied by the ‘God of Cricket’ Sachin Tendulkar, who has amassed an incredible 100 international hundreds. Although he has amassed 50 hundreds in the One-Day International format, Virat Kohli has amassed 30 centuries in Test cricket and one hundred in the shortest version of the game.
But the single ton in the T20Is among Virat Kohli total centuries led many people to believe that the stalwart isn’t as good in the shortest format as the other ones. However, when you look at his Indian Premier League (IPL) stats, you’ll find eight centuries just lying around. These centuries go on to show how potent he is in the T20s as well. By the way, he has the most number of centuries in the IPL, just above Jos Buttler who has seven centuries. The 35-year-old has only ever played for RCB, having been a member since the 2008 IPL season. He has amassed a record 8004 runs from 244 innings in the IPL, including 55 half-centuries in addition to the eight tons. He is the IPL's top run scorer with these figures. Despite not being able to guide RCB to an IPL championship in 13 years, Kohli has been one of the most successful hitters in the lucrative competition.
Top IPL Centuries By Virat Kohli
113* vs Rajasthan Royals, IPL 2024
In the IPL 2024 edition, Kohli scored his eighth and most recent century against the Rajasthan Royals. Once more, when he batted first, Kohli was the only one who anchored the innings. Together with Faf du Plessis, he forged a 125-run stand, hitting 113* off 72 balls. During his innings, Kohli smashed 12 fours and four sixes to stay undefeated. Jos Buttler reached 100* off just 58 balls to put the Royals over the finish line in 19.1 overs, but once more, the century did not come in a winning cause.
113 vs Kings XI Punjab, IPL 2016
This is his greatest IPL score to date and the fourth of four hundreds that Kohli recorded in the 2016 season. By virtue of the Duckworth Lewis technique, RCB defeated KXIP by 82 runs thanks to the knock of 50-ball 113, which also kept them in the running for the playoffs. At a strike rate of 226.00, Kohli hit 12 fours and 8 sixes throughout the 113-run innings.
109 vs Gujarat Lions, IPL 2016
One of the most notable partnerships that AB de Villiers and Kohli have forged since joining RCB in 2011 occurred in 2016. In the season's 44th encounter, RCB hosted the now-defunct Gujarat Lions. With five fours and eight sixes, Kohli scored 109 from 55 balls. Up to 112 of the 229 runs in the pair's partnership came in the final five overs. RCB scored 248 runs in all, and the Gujarat squad was dismissed for 104 runs in response.

Dinesh Karthik Sets Retirement Date, Rumored to Bid Farewell to IPL After 2024 Season
Renowned Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik is reportedly gearing up for his final appearance in the IPL, with the 2024 edition set to commence on March 22. The 38-year-old, currently affiliated with the Royal Challengers Bangalore, has been a consistent presence in all 16 editions of the IPL since its inception in 2008, only missing two matches across 16 seasons. A source within the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) revealed, on the condition of anonymity, that Karthik plans to make the 2024 IPL his last and will make decisions regarding his international retirement following the tournament.
Having played for six different teams in the IPL, Karthik’s journey began with the Delhi Daredevils (now Capitals) in 2008, followed by stints with Kings XI Punjab, Mumbai Indians, a lucrative return to Delhi in 2014, and subsequent spells with Gujarat Lions and the Kolkata Knight Riders.
Before the IPL 2022 season, Karthik was released by the Kolkata Knight Riders and acquired by the Royal Challengers Bangalore for the second time at a cost of Rs 5.5 crore. His impactful performance in 2022, particularly as a finisher, saw him score 330 runs in 16 matches at an impressive average of 55 and an explosive strike rate of 183.33, contributing significantly to RCB’s journey to the playoffs.
Karthik’s prolific form earned him a spot in the India squad for the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia. However, the team fell short in the semifinals against eventual champions England.
Apart from his on-field contributions, Karthik has also made a name for himself as a commentator, showcasing a lively and technically sound approach.
In his international career, which ran parallel to that of MS Dhoni as a wicketkeeper-batsman, Karthik played 26 Tests, scoring 1025 runs, and participated in 94 ODIs, accumulating 1752 runs. His last appearance for India was in a T20I against Bangladesh in 2022. Across 60 T20Is, he scored 686 runs and showcased his skills with 30 catches and 8 stumpings.
Karthik boasts an impressive IPL record, featuring in 242 matches since the inaugural edition, amassing 4516 runs at an average of 25.81 and a strike rate of 132.71, with 20 half-centuries. Additionally, he has contributed with 141 catches and 36 stumpings.
While speculation surrounds Karthik’s IPL retirement after the upcoming season, fans eagerly await his final stint in the tournament, marking the end of an illustrious and impactful career in the world of cricket.

[ad_1] LSG stole the show with Pant’s addition to their roster. (PC: X.com) Heading into the auction with just Rs 51 crore to spend and tasked with building a squad around the core group of five retained players, the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) had plenty of bases to cover with a limited purse. Despite having a smaller budget compared to other franchises like Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), LSG secured the services of Rishabh Pant for a record sum of Rs 27 crore. LSG owner Sanjeev Goenka told RevSportz that the franchise was keen to acquire Pant. With more than half of their purse spent on a single player, LSG had to adopt a strategic approach to their remaining purchases, ensuring they stayed within budget. They executed this plan effectively over the two-day auction. After securing Pant, it seemed that LSG was focused on forming their first XI around versatile all-rounders. David Miller, Mitchell Marsh, and Aiden Markram were brought in to bolster the top and middle order, complementing the presence of Pant, Nicholas Pooran, and Ayush Badoni. The lower order was further reinforced with the additions of Abdul Samad and Shahbaz Ahmed. They aggressively targeted Indian seam-bowling talent, spending big to secure Avesh Khan and Akash Deep, while also adding Akash Singh and Rajvardhan Hangargekar to their squad. M Siddharth, who impressed in the previous season, also makes a return to the squad. Notably, Shamar Joseph, retained through the RTM card, is the sole overseas bowling addition for LSG this season. Hits Rishabh Pant Pant was a highly sought-after player, with many expecting him to be picked up by PBKS or RCB. However, LSG made a surprise move, securing the dynamic batter. With Pant in their squad, LSG have secured their captain, wicketkeeper, and a key batter in the lineup. He became the biggest buy of the auction, and undoubtedly, a major acquisition for LSG. Shahbaz Ahmed The conditions at Ekana will suit Shahbaz Ahmed and his style of play. The Bengal all-rounder, who recently struck a century in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy against defending champions Punjab, is in excellent form with the bat. The slow pitch and large boundaries in Lucknow will complement his bowling style. A versatile player, Shahbaz can serve as a like-for-like replacement for Krunal Pandya. Akash Deep Capped Indian bowlers were in high demand throughout the auction, and LSG did well to secure Akash Deep. The right-arm seamer has been impressive in T20s and has shown remarkable growth in international cricket. He is capable of taking wickets with the new ball and can deliver deadly yorkers in the latter stages of the game. Misses LSG may have missed an opportunity by not pursuing more overseas pace bowling options. While they targeted two, Shamar Joseph and Anrich Nortje, the former was brought back using an RTM card. Although LSG has a strong Indian core of fast bowlers, many of them, including Akash Deep and Avesh Khan, are relatively raw when it comes to the IPL. Joseph, though possessing pace, also lacks experience in the T20 format. Additionally, while LSG has one of the most destructive and settled middle orders, their top-order options seem less reliable. Mitchell Marsh is there, but Aiden Markram and Matthew Breetzke have not inspired much confidence as key top-order players. Overall rating – 7.5/10 LSG IPL 2025 Squad: Nicholas Pooran, Ravi Bishnoi, Mayank Yadav, Mohsin Khan, Ayush Badoni, Rishabh Pant (Rs. 27 crore), David Miller (Rs. 7.5 crore), Aiden Markram (Rs. 2 crore), Mitchell Marsh (Rs. 3.40 crore), Avesh Khan (Rs. 9.75 crore), Abdul Samad (Rs. 4.20 crore), Aryan Juyal (Rs. 30 lakh), Akash Deep (Rs. 8 crore), Himmat Singh (Rs. 30 lakh), M. Siddharth (Rs. 75 lakh), Digvesh Singh (Rs. 30 lakh), Shahbaz Ahmed (Rs. 2.40 crore), Akash Singh (Rs. 30 lakh), Shamar Joseph (Rs. 75 lakh), Prince Yadav (Rs. 30 lakh), Yuvraj Chaudhary (Rs. 30 lakh), Rajvardhan Hangargekar (Rs. 30 lakh), Arshin Kulkarni (Rs. 30 lakh), Matthew Breetzke (Rs. 75 lakh).
